Lalique

I blind bought a vintage set of miniatures of this fragrance in 3 gorgeous unique-Lalique bottles, not even caring if I'd like the scent. Turns out I do. The jasmine is doing the most work here which skews this very feminine, but it's the cloves & sandalwood that makes it a bit dirty and oh, so French. Lalique announces that the wearer has class and quite cultured in an effortless way that says 'quiet luxury' in a semi-loud way. Now I'm buying a full size version, and not just for the bottle.

French style is grounded in “understated elegance” aka the opposite of loud, opinionated, distinctive. They go for sophisticated charm and refinement instead of overly flamboyant. This fragrance, is very that. If you’re going to name your fragrance after your house, you would think it would make a statement. However, Lalique’s reputation is based on glassware. They are the absolute pinnacle of artistic achievement selling ornate pieces that are one of a kind. They have nothing to prove. Many iconic flasks of perfume are produced by Lalique for other houses like Molinard’s Habanita fresco. Sophia Grojsman is my favorite floral designer. Traditionally, French female perfumery focused more on what women liked than attracting men. She’s a fabulous example of that. The subtlety gives a grounding energy that holds throughout the day like an anchor. Instead of opening with the typical citrus or berry, it opens with gentle clean soapy florals that feel like stepping out of the shower ready to start the day. They are familiar & uncomplicated. However, the fruity heart of this gives a more modern twist on the usual lily florals without sacrificing sophistication. Since this is more affordable, it requires some maceration before showing off its full glory, and you need to really sit in it before you can enjoy what it brings to the party. Is it revolutionary and unforgettable? No. But is it special? I’d argue yes. Lalique fragrances are workhorses. Like glassware, they’re beautiful, dependable, and delicate. They have personality without being controversial. The opening is classical with a sharp edge from the clove. The middle is playful & juicy with that hint of spice carrying into the comfy, sultry sandalwood base. And it lasts all day in all weather. Plus, if you’re into art nouveau, the bottle is 10/10

I reach for this a lot because it's very comfortable to wear. It's inoffensive and seasonally versatile. I already have a backup bottle when the 1st one goes. I say it's a great value for the $30 I paid on eBay for it, brand new. Lalique is just one of my top houses in my collection.

Surprisingly rich fruity floral, potent blackberry & cassis brew over a bright jasmine and ylang. Gets woodier with touches of powdery as it dries down, but the fruitiness is still very much there. Spring and summer is excellent for this, very uplifting. Lasts all day on my skin and clothes, projects strongly in the first hour before settling into arms' length.

Damn you Fragrantica heads are hard to please! I just got this, so first impressions. Firstly, I paid under 24€ for 100ml - I think that is incredible. So I can't complain if it doesn't last very long (although it's holding up after 5 hours.) Not sure about the projection, but I'm still enjoying a nice little scent bubble. It opens flowery and a little fruity - very nice; plenty of jasmine at the top, mostly pear and cassis at the heart - I love an aromatic, slightly earthy green leaf. The dry down is a bit too musky for me at first, but then settles into a beachy sort of sandalwood - warm and sunny. It reminds me of Jil Sander's Sun (created 2 or 3 years before) a bit. A solid every day scent I will be using for sure. Why spend 100s of euros to be a fashion victim, and reject a perfectly good scent that is well crafted, in a delightful bottle and is eminently wearable?

Lalique EDT The 'soapiness' of aliphatic aldehydes is noticeable in the immediate opening, but soon a more soothing white floral (jasmine) and tart fruit (cassis, pear) medley takes over. It's quite pleasurable as is, ...though at least for a moment, I do long for the scent to shift yet more green, As the drydown continues the whole melange melts into something like honeydew, ...along with a subtle warmth from the musky vanillic base, ...plus some distinctive santal. In general terms, comparable with Caron's Fleur de Rocaille, ..but the latter is more complexly floral and notably less fruity. Rather, if anything, I find Lalique's deeper drydown on skin, after the fruitiness subsides, to suggest a favourable, albeit only partial, resemblance to Samsara.

Very very weak. An extreme soft powdery faint smell nothing more. So in the selling bin it goes.

Reminds me of Laura Biagiotti Venezia. Don't care about the notes looking different, my nose knows better 😉 I adore perfumes in this vein.

I'm not sure why Fragrantica's note breakdown is so incomplete, since the complete description from the website is appended in much smaller type right below it. I definitely smell more of the notes listed in the official brand description and would consider that a fuller, more accurate profile of this underrated fragrance. On my skin Lalique de Lalique is honeyed currant over jasmine and sandalwood. It also features ylang-ylang rather prominently. I find it less boring than Chanel Beige or Dior J'Adore but in the same olfactory ballpark. It also reminds me a bit of Guerlain Champs-Elysees, although that one is more lilac (or buddleia) oriented, as well as Estee Lauder Beautiful. For my money, Lalique and Boucheron both offer some of the best fragrances, in the best bottles, on the gray-market discount websites. Last I checked a 100-ml bottle of this radiant floral baby was only about $30. And it's so potent that a few sprays will be more than enough to last you all day and into the night.

I reserve this perfume for the coldest days in winter. Warm, cozy and a bit spicy in the right weather. Too suffocating in warm weather.

I wore this in the 1980's. I didn't really like it then Now, I am actually revolted by the smell. Truly one of the worst perfumes I have ever smelled. The bottle is absolutely gorgeous tho.

I appreciate and admire this, but I don’t like it. The musk is too prominent for my taste. The interplay of the fruit and the florals with the sandalwood, like all SG perfumes, is gorgeous. Just not into the musk.

Unpleasant, powdery in an old-fashioned way, floral with a bit of of fruitiness. Definitely a scruber

My favorite perfume, a true timeless jewel that exudes pure elegance! Floral notes like a cloud of well-being surrounding you! I always have it and will never change it. For those who prefer "old school" perfumes, whose longevity, sillage and presence are very different from what is made today, LALIQUE by Lalique is a formidable purchase! Its invariability is also a typical characteristic of its author, the initial notes are the ones that always remain! In fact, like everything that comes from the hands of Mrs. Sophia Grojsman!

I discovered this back in 1996. I have never been without it since then. Made for women, not girls.I could use this all the time but I don't because it is too precious for me. Although it's not expensive I don't want to waste it. So beautiful scent!!!

Beautiful scent, an aphrodisiac.

I am a fan of fragrances that aren't just one thing - just fruity or just floral or just woody or just vanilla. This fits the bill for me, all the notes create a blend of floral, spice, fruit and aldehydes. This is not IMO a sandalwood fragrance, like one might consider Versace Crystal Noir (which I also like). It is a brighter, girlier fragrance. Yes, I would say it a bit soapy too. Obviously not a sugar bomb so may not fit today's tastes but to me, this lovely old thing is new again.

Quite stunning. Has the signature "hug me accord" you can expect from Grojsman. I would swear it's another peach from her until I saw the notes and now I can't unsmell it! Humans are so impressionable 😂 this is richer than a peach perfume, and VERY dynamic. The mid reminds me of Alien Sunessence! If you like Tresor, Diamonds & Rubies, Sun Moon Stars, etc. then you'll probably enjoy this, too. Maybe sample before buying a big bottle as this is not a safe blind buy. I'm glad I went for it, totally into this & think I'll only love it more as time passes. p.s. the notes above in the breakdown seem wrong/incomplete according to the description above it, which are more accurate.

i have a gorgeous mini bottle of this. it starts off is a honeyed floral with fruits that smell like peach or apricot at first...then i see it's a Sophia Grojsman creation! now that i am giving a bit more time i see that it's blackberry, but it does kind of come off a bit peachy to me. i believe the other primary notes are musk, iris, vanilla and sandalwood at this point. there's a bit of rose and cloves as well. this started out promising but as time goes on it's getting incredibly soapy on me. i can't quite place what it is but something here gives me a headache. maybe it's the pear, because i usually can't do pear because it smells like hairspray, but here i think it's just cloying on me. the first SJ perfume that hasn't worked for me, i believe. i don't even dislike it, really, but it would probably smell a lot better on someone else. though i might add, i am trying in spring and am thinking this may work better in fall, so i will save it to retry then.

Headache inducing. Super heavy no matter how little I apply. This is coming from someone who LOVES vintages, this just smells musty and thick like an expired face cream.

Sufisticate, fresh and elegant. This is rare piece of jewelry, and it not for trend setters. Lalique lalique is parfume for women with still, personality, poetic, romantic and elegant. Fragnence is wearible in all seasons, but best in spring and summer. IT'S so up lifting, makes me to feel like a queen. I bought 2 bottles. Than you Sofia Groysman, for this beautiful fragrance ❤️

This was a blind buy and I love it. It’s early days because I just received my package early this morning and I have won it for the whole day. It was a love at first whiff for sure. I get the florals and a bit of spice. I am not picking out any particular fruits at the moment but I am sure I will update my comment after a month goes by. For now, I will say that I am gravitating more towards the older scents than the new creations on the market now. There is something classy and elegant about these older creations that makes you feel confident and unique. I know for sure I won’t be smelling like 90% of the other women in an event because they will be wearing something sweet and common 😂😂😂😂. This is my first time trying a Lalique fragrance and it is a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me and I can’t wait to try another scent from this brand. Update: 8 months after blind buying it and I can say it is still a ✨✨✨✨✨ for me. It has great sillage and longevity which is an added plus. I don’t over think where to wear this to. It’s just that lovely, feminine and pretty. It’s works beautifully for any daytime event and for nighttime, I just wear 2 spritz instead of my usual 5 and pair it with something with heavier notes that needs a lift like Jasmin Noire by Bvglari and it’s a winner all the way.

This perfume wasn't bad, but I found it a tad too fruity for my liking with the pear and the blackberry together. I would have preferred more floral notes in this perfume. It also had a vintage-type smell to it for me that smelt a bit old-fashioned and dated (probably from the powdery musk and the spicy cloves) and I wasn't too keen on that. I did find the drydown slightly too woody for my liking as well. The sillage and the longevity were a happy medium though and there is a certain classic and feminine quality to it, but I wasn't blown away or anything. For these reasons, I'm giving this fragrance by Lalique a 6/10.

I get the flowers much more than the fruits unfortunately. I think are those flowers what gave me a “dated” feeling. It's like something I smelled before when I was a kid in a senior person.

Beautiful clean-girl floral. If you're going to smell like you just scrubbed yourself clean in the shower, make sure the soap smell is a beautiful, well-balanced, aldehyde-propelled amber floral, as this one is: a classic Grojsman creation. I loved it at first spray--including the elegant and old-fashioned-looking bottle--and I can hardly believe Lalique sells for so little online--you can often pick up a new 100-ml (3.3 ounces) bottle for about $35 at one of the online discount sites. But even at its standard price (it was around $87 for the same size bottle on Amazon), this is a good deal. I would put this up against several more expensive amber florals in my collection, and I especially recommend it to the Grojsman fans out there. Update: I put this on last night after showering, before bed, and then refreshed it this morning, even though I could still smell it a bit, especially on fabric; my husband likes it a lot and said so more enthusiastically than he has rated almost all the other perfumes I have worn recently. I notice a real honeyed effect, like real honey, not just syrupy fruit or flowers. I don't see either listed in the notes or in the description (which is clearly wrong and meant for a different Lalique perfume). I saw that someone recommended this as a dupe for Chanel Beige, and it does indeed have a very similar profile: honeyed white flowers, soft woods, mild spice/wood notes. I could see both perfumes working well in office environments or anywhere else you want to smell clean, sweet, and pleasant. Even though it was created in 1992, it doesn't smell any more dated to me than Beige or J'Adore does, and you simply can't beat the price. I figured out that I paid about $10 an ounce for this bottle, which would probably last me a long time even if I didn't already have so many other fragrances.

This comes off like a clean bar of soap type smell. Doesn’t last long at all, reminds me of a type of vintage scent. I feel like I’ve probably smelled it before, but like YEARRRRRSSSSS ago, on an aunt or something. I just feel like I have other fragrances that I gravitate to much more than this, this has been and this will become redundant if I were to keep it. So, I’ve already put it for sale and hopefully it gets out of my collection and into a new home.

Love this! Today is my fourth time wearing it - at first I was a little neutral on it but by the 4th wear, I love it. It's elegant, feminine, classy, and very easy to wear. Suitable and versatile for so many occasions. If I were still working in an office, it would be perfect for that but it's lovely at home and in my studio too. My husband rarely notices my fragrances but this one he has noticed twice and likes it. Love the bottle too, the classic, early-20th century aesthetic is pretty and unique in my collection. I have the larger size and it doesn't fit my hand (average size) all that well, especially my non-dominant hand - the atomizer is a little hard to get but I really don't mind. This is a really nice, elevated fragrance for the price! Definitely a keeper and one of the reasons I love Lalique.
