So they cracked the code on all Tom Ford leather scents a while ago. Velvet Oud is: Sweet violet / purple / leather / patchouli. I am ALWAYS on the hunt for "purple patchoulis". This was one of my better blind buys ! It checks all the boxes (I wish the bottle was purple though) . Good projection. No nuances or development (naturally! Leave that to Creed and other $300.00 perfumes , OK ?) . THIS IS A BARGAIN ! GRADE : A minus. Happy "dumb grab" ! No detectable OUD is in here. LOL. PRO TIP for extremists : I layer this with Gres Cabochard which is "smokey / dirty leather / cigarette" for possibly my ULTIMATE perfume fantasy! GRADE: B plus. Better name would be "Ombre Leather for Her".
The list of Fragrantica's fragrance notes is incorrect. The correct fragrance notes, according to the manufacturer, are: Top notes: cardamom, bergamot; Middle notes: violet leaf, patchouli; Base notes: suede, oud, amber-musk, oakmoss Not included: incense, smokiness, cinnamon It far surpasses the quality of any Lattafa perfumes I’ve encountered! It’s luxury-grade compared to the rest—and even more so considering its price. The scent: leather-oud without rose, which is a rarity. There are plenty of floral notes, though, obviously thanks mostly to the violet leaf—it’s what gives it that certain something—blending with the others, of course—that makes this fragrance truly unisex. The way bergamot, violet, and the smoothest, most divine patchouli blend with the soft leather creates a masterfully beautiful accord. I can even detect a hint of cool pepper, which might be one of the aspects of that accord that emerges on my skin. The “oud” is present, and at first I hated it because it wasn’t the woody, smoky, horse-like scent—which I do like—but something else… that I’d rather not name… Nowadays, I don’t even notice it—either my nose has gotten used to it, my brain blocks it out, or it’s oxidized during the maceration process from use. Thankfully! Sometimes, when I smell it directly from the spray, I find it to be a very elegant feminine scent; other times, less so… I never find it feminine on myself; it’s probably exactly that—a fragrance that can truly be called unisex. It’s so fresh that it’s easily suitable for three seasons, though it’s not the ideal choice during a heat wave or at the gym. It has almost no sweetness, just enough amber and musk to keep it from being bone-dry. Overall, it’s a beautifully blended fragrance made from high-quality ingredients. It doesn’t remind me of TF’s leather scents—those are much darker.
This fragrance is a steal! I absolutely love it. The quality, dry down, longevity! It smells really expensive, rich! 10 out of 10
incredible value for money, pretty straightforward (or better yet - flat) powerful sweet oud leather. it does lack a nuance of sophistication its more expensive counterparts tend to have. i am not the biggest fan of drydown, it's a sweet 'meh' that goes on forever. i would call this unisex, even masculine leaning at first, though the drydown is quite feminine to my nose. this is one of the rare leather perfumes i can see even on younger folk.
Leather and animalic oud. Very mature and bold. But not very versatile Scent 8/10
Has a niche quality to it.....ssshhhhh! Don't tell!
Was looking forward to that heavenly smooth, creamy and clean scent of OL, but the smoked saffron that’s so dominant in Velvet Oud blocks whatever similarity that may exist between the two from even reaching my nose. Huge disappointment.
Fantastisk drydown, mjuk läder, hallon/viol.
I reviewed this about six months ago. I don't intentionally try to let anything mature or 'macerate', ...but neither do I just throw anything out. So lets try this again. This opens with a note I can only describe as raspberrasoline, ...and it doesn't go away. Very soon, it is joined by cigarette smoke-stained leather, ...of course, there is absolutely nothing here resembling real oud. So there you have it. Raspberrasoline + cigarette smoke-stained leather. I'll admit, it is rather bizarrely amazing to smell this on a blotter. Would I ever wear it? NEVER. ...but I'm sure my description has aroused the interest of some strange individuals out there. Every extremity has its own extreme afficionados. Edit: I just compared this to Tuscan Leather,...and surprisingly, the scent profile is similar, except everything is amped-up on Velvet Oud, ...so basically, Tuscan Leather on meth.
i had relatively high hopes for this. i purchased this blind, as the malls in my area are shite when it comes to having any fragrance not of the 'commercial fragrance #85936' variety, the notes here seemed reliable for my taste (other than citrus, though i hoped that the other notes would make that pleasant enough), and i needed a bottle of fragrance for a show (which was tonight. i got two tattoos. good fun). i have given it multiple tries thus far, and it always screams 'bright, standard, slightly musky tire'. i smell absolutely zero warmth in this how i would expect from a supposedly ambery and woody scent, and it does not change upon dry-down, other than the alcohol becoming less nose hair curling, morphing into something more elderly. i personally lose the scent on myself very quickly, though i have had someone tell me that she can still smell it a wee bit hours later upon me asking, so who is to say. i do worry that many musky scents come across as tire on my skin if not warm or woody enough, albeit it also smells like that from the bottle when not on me, which makes me very confused on how anyone decided on those notes being what are advertised for this. overall, this is an extremely standard musky citrus fragrance. perhaps my taste for scents is too incompatible with the medium. having that sample of amouage interlude some years back and indulging in heretic parfum sample packs has inflated my standards far beyond what i can afford, i fear.
I only get smoky, Oud and animalic notes, No top or base notes jump out at me. After reading through the impossibly differing descriptions, I must conclude, the production must be extremely inconsistent. I'll give it a month and see if something more wearable emerges. (And I normally like the Gucci Guilty Absolute, fuel type stuff). NOTE: It Is beginning to grow on me
There is nothing leathery or ambery or musky or powdery about this. It is simply just a cheap smelling raspberry and oud, that's it. It’s trying to punch above its weight class It’s not bad though. Certainly worth checking out if you’re a collector, just nothing special. The raspberry and oud are an interesting mix This is something I would gift to a teenager maybe, for their first fragrance. Although fragrances have toxins in them so ultimately that might not be a good gift 🤔 Probably just a dumb reach frag for when you want to throw something different on to go shopping. It is definitely feminine leaning. Someone described it as like a boss male scent, lol no Lattafa offerings aren’t ever bad that I’ve experienced, but they are overhyped. You get what you pay for. I haven’t been disappointed really with Lattafa, but I haven’t really been wowed either. Lattafa doesn’t really put out stunners. Just interesting little offerings I’d say if you’re looking for something special look elsewhere. If you’re a collector and you like cheaper smelling ouds then this one is in that space
Sophisticated Leather in a Bottle: A True 9/10 Gem "If you appreciate the DNA of Tom Ford’s Ombré Leather but prefer something smoother and more versatile, this is an absolute masterpiece. The opening is surprisingly bright with a hint of citrus that cuts through the richness, quickly settling into a buttery, 'velvety' leather accord. It’s not animalic or harsh; it’s refined and commands respect. I wore this to a gathering recently and the feedback was incredible. It projects an aura of authority and sophistication—I actually had two people stop me to ask what I was wearing. It definitely leaves a memorable scent trail (sillage) without being suffocating. A massive shout-out to Safi Paşa👑, a local trustworthy niche seller in Turkey, for introducing us to this beauty. Sourcing authentic Middle Eastern fragrances with proper batch storage can be a gamble, but thanks to them, we have safe access to these original gems. The bottle presentation and heavy cap alone scream quality. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 8.5/10 Verdict: A must-have for leather lovers who want niche quality."
I have no idea how this lasts so long on my skin. i can still smell it after 2 days and multiple showers. Now the scent isn't something mass appealing but performance is bonkers and this stays on skin for days. The scent is mix of incense, smoke, leather, some weird sweet incency candy type smell. Its definitely not an offensive or polarising scent. It feels like you are wearing something special and good quality.. NGL m getting kind of addicted to this scent not sure how others around me are gonna percieve it. will update
This is just a straight up mess like most Middle Eastern perfumes, the only good thing about this perfume is the price tag, you can literally throw it away in the trash bin without thinking twice. Leave all those talks about “ let it maceration or the dry down smell different” crab. This disgusting thing smells the same from the opening to the dry down and it doesn’t get better over time. I personally don’t recommend this stuff.
I have this 1. My opinion it's hard to use it. first spray scent so greenly then after 1 mounth scent was better i'm not big fan leather scent
Starts off, giving tuscan leather vibe, after 30-50mins Ombre Leather vibe stays...! Longevity: 6-7 hours Sillage: Not Strong, 30-60-90mins depends Scent profile: 7.5/10 (__requires mature nose ;)__) Nice dupe of Ombre Leather from Lattafa.
Good sillage good performance however some may find it too synthetic vibes
An amber/Saffron heavy Ombre Leather alternative. Less smoky, and less sweetness, much more amber and saffron. Super high quality scent, though! It's a no-brainer for the price! I have both and like both separately, but for the money, if you're on a budget, this is the one to get. Side by side, they do have different feels, however. Ombre Leather has that deep signature play dough sweetness that many Tom Ford Private Blends have, and this doesn't. But, when you're not comparing them side by side, this one is a perfectly fine budget alternative! And this gets closer and closer to the original as it dries down. To me, this is Ombre Leather meets Velvet Desert Oud.
Banger leather scent. Great performance. Great price (less than 15 bucks around here). A sweet, ambery leather fragrance with a hint of oud/incense. Classy, it will pop-up your cheap faux-leather style with Oriental vibes.
WAY lighter than I thought it would smell, I was imagining something in the realm of Ombre Leather, but it's more toward Dior Fahrenheit. Freshy leather scent, lasts a LONG time, mid projection
Thus far, an alcoholic screechy mess that makes a languid attempt at emulating TF Ombre Leather. Like most Lattafas, I think it needs time to macerate. Unless it improves dramatically, this one is going straight into the trash. Thank God it was so cheap. Packaging is surprisingly good: box, bottle and atomizer are very solid, if a little gaudy.
One of the best leather fragrance out there! An absolute steal for the price, a confidence booster for the colder days to come.
Velvet Oud by Lattafa was my very first Middle Eastern fragrance, and it will always hold a place of honor in my collection. It offers a fantastic blend between Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather and Ombre Leather, capturing that rich, smooth leather vibe with a subtle Arabian twist. This was the scent that sparked my passion for perfumery, taking my collection from just 8 bottles to over 300 fragrances—the very first impression was truly unforgettable. I fully agree with the statement this fragrance smells like a million bucks. On my skin, both longevity and projection are excellent, and a backup bottle is a must. Scent: 5/5 Longevity & Projection: 1/1 Presentation: 1/0 Quality/Price Ratio: 2/2 Compliment Factor: 0/1 Uniqueness: 1/1 Overall: 10/10 Office-friendly: No (better for evenings or special occasions) Blind buy: Yes (if you enjoy leather-based scents) Recommended age: 25+ Occasion: Formal evenings, special occasions, night out Season: Fall, Winter, cool Spring evenings
Can someone confirm me that this smells similar to Eau Rihla by Diptyque? I'm obsessed with that fragrance, and I haven't had the occasion to sample Velvet Oud b Lattafa yet.
LISTEN TO ME. DO NOT BELIEVE THE HATERS. Velvet Oud smells like a million bucks. It's unisex, slightly masculine leaning. Absolutely gorgeous on the drydown. It's royal blue and gold velvet. Classy, elegant, poised. You WILL leave a trail. Lasts around 6 hours on my skin with a single spray. It has everything. My signature scent forever and ever. P.S. exclusively a night scent, don't use it when it's too hot outside or in tiny enclosed spaces or you will murder someone
Smooth and sweet ambery opening with woody and spicey drydown. Ombre leather + oud and subtle amber (made feminine and vintage). Strong projection and sillage. Kinda reminded me of a leathery chair in an old manor's head of household office.
Great value. Leather in the beginning, i've checked it hours later and it turns to an animalic scent on me. One of the only fragrances i truly notice changes after some hours and i like both leather and animalic scents so i like the change.
can NOT go wrong with this fragrance! did not believe in maceration until i stumbled upon this... up until a month after the first spray, this smells like a mess which then changes to an amazing leather fragrance for a mere 15$
How can people like the leather smellits disgusting, i thought i used to like leather like i. Ombre leather but now of its slightly strong its disgusting
