Higher school of perfumery. I’d really love for this scent to be made by some niche house, composed only of noble ingredients, and to last, and last, and last. I love every moment in this scent. Nothing smells like this. This is how the ’90s smell, a white shirt, leather seats in a Porsche, and a trip to Italy on the Mediterranean. This is how the old world smells, the one that no longer exists. Worth it for the memories alone.
From a few minutes of google research i learned that Laura Biagiotti was a student at the University of Archeology in Rome. She later abbandoned her studies to follow into her mother’s footsteps and embraced fashion. She was one of the earlier Italian fashion designers that made a name for herself on the international scene, with China playing an important role in her expansion. Everything about her screams Italy and it seems to me that she placed great accent on her national roots, the Italian culture and Rome. Rome is also where she passed away, everything coming full circle in a way. Her perfumes represent her love for her heritage. I was made aware that Roma Uomo is a citrusy perfume through the short research i’ve done so i kinda knew what to expect, still, the perfume turned out differently. When i personally think of citruses, the first thing that comes to my mind are the bitter, sour types of citruses. Lemons, Lime, Bergamot perhaps. For some reason the other, sweeter fruits in the citrus family fall behind when i think of citruses. From Roma Uomo i expected a barbershop or a fougere, with neroli, orange blossom and other typical green, “mediterranean” greenery, supported by lemon or other astrigent citruses. Afterall, the town of Amalfi in Italy is famous for its lemons, especially in perfumery. That is not what Roma Uomo brings to the table. Instead of green elements and sharp citruses reminiscent of a barbershop on a busy Italian cobblestone street, where clean and well dressed, young looking but mature Italian gentlemen loudly converse both with their voice and with their hands, im met with a sweet fragrance. In the opening i encounter an almost powdery nouance but it feels more like a curtain through which you pass in order to get to the main part. Soon after the opening, the fragrance reveals itself to be a sweet, pulpy orange-y fragrance. The notes mention grapefruit but to me Roma Uomo is unusually sweet, not saying that the fragrance is overly sweet because its not, but in contrast to real citruses, it is particularly juicy sweet. Hence why im keen on my opinion that its more of a sweet orange rather then grapefruit. Such a sweet citrus could easily fall into the trap of smelling like a carbonated drink but its not the case. Its yummy without being gourmand. It dries down to a clean, soft and creamy sandalwood with an echo of the citrus flavoring. Roma Uomo is a rather linear but great smelling, laid back fragrance best suited for casual and daily summer wear. The fragrance made me realise one important thing. Many Italian perfumes released decades ago remained relevant today and that is confirmed by other examples such as Acqua di Gio or even Versace Eros which at this point can be considered a classic. Not intending it as a critique by any means but French houses in contrast remained relevant eighter through the support of the staunch vintage loving community, which, lets be honest, remained loyal out of nostalgia or the appreciation of oldschool perfumery. That niche segment of the community admits that the fragrances are a product of their times so again, no critiques there. Or they remained relevant through new releases, reinterpretations and flankers of their older stuff. Some Italian perfumes remained relevant through the timeless nature they possess themselves, without necessarily having to be reinvented or redesigned and thats something to be appreciated.
Beautiful scent that doesn't last more than an hour maybe. It's really sad, but it is what it is
My parents bought this for me as a present from a duty-free shop. My father used to wear this fragrance and got compliments on it back then—it was very good and still rocks. When I first tried it, I mostly noticed the mandarin note—a bit warm and cozy. I’ve worn it a couple of times, and all I can say is that this is a light fragrance. It’s not a beast, nor is it a fragrance that everyone will notice or that will fill a room. It’s a chill, cozy mandarin scent with a woody dry down. It’s nice—you’ll smell good—but not everyone will pick up on it. As for performance, it’s weak: around 4–5 hours on skin. If you spray it on clothes, it might last longer, around 7–8 hours. I usually wear this on warm, rainy days.
LAURA BIAGIOTTI: ROMA UOMO – A ROMAN EMBRACE THE METAMORPHOSIS: FROM COOL MARBLE TO SUN-DRENCHED WARMTH When I finally bought Roma Uomo, I was initially taken aback - the sweetness felt overwhelming at first. But a fragrance like this doesn't reveal its soul in a hurry. What I've learned to love is its incredible evolution on the skin. It starts with a crisp, bitter Grapefruit and Basil but as it warms up, it undergoes a beautiful transformation. It becomes creamy, balsamic, and deep. That sweetness is actually the comforting warmth of Pine Resin, Benzoin, and Sandalwood. It’s like sitting on sun-warmed marble as evening falls over the Eternal City. CONCLUSION: A TIMELESS STATEMENT OF MATURITY Roma Uomo demands the right setting - it truly shines in the evening or as the air cools down. It is a fragrance that requires a certain maturity to be fully understood. It’s an invitation, not a demand. If the initial sweetness puts you off, give it a second chance when the sun goes down. A true masterpiece of Italian soul.
Eating orange ice pops by the window where your mothers basil plant sits
One of the few fragrances I ever bought twice. Couldn't live without. Just a stunning Italian september vibe.
Do not trust the notes, they are misleading. After testing and owning a lot of outside designer profile scents, one sometimes yearn for it and wonders what it was like, so I pulled the trigger on this one for the excitement (and it was 40ml for 20 euros). It smells, to me, like a showergel which has citruses in it that are a bit more rounded, a bit more leaning towards citric-sweet side of experience rather than sharp or spiky citruses. It almost feels like this is a fresh blue fragrance. Easy reach, it smells clean (like marine citrus clean and not musky clean) and nothing complicated. I wouldn't say there are white florals in this if they were not listed here, I can't smell them nor the sharpness of basil or geranium. I do not think I will hold onto it as the more I smell it the more displeased I become with its scent profile. It is not bad, I just don't like it. It's not shapeshifter, in a sense that I am not noticing major shifts after putting it on for a while, it slowly fades into lesser intensity.
It is easy to feel grapefruit and bergamot in the opening, even irritating. The drydown is more pleasant, creamy and woody. Good sillage. Good as summer fragnance, esspecially for nights, but not so suitable for winter. Very accesiible price and that makes worth buying it.
#70 of My Fragrance Journey - On Stone, Warmth, and Ghosts: Laura Biagiotti Roma Uomo This isn’t the glow of youth. It’s later than that. Late afternoon. Sun sinking, heat still trapped in old stone. Nothing trying to impress anymore. Just… there. That’s where Roma Uomo lives. It doesn’t sit on the skin so much as it builds a mood. An atmosphere you step into. First spray? I won’t sugarcoat it. It’s sharp. Almost jarring. Grapefruit and basil come in hard, metallic, very early-’90s in a way that feels… loud now. Synthetic, even. For a few minutes, I’m thinking, oh no, did I misremember this? It’s like the opening note of a song that hits slightly off-key. Not easy and kind. Not asking permission either. So yeah - at first, it kind of dares you to bail. But wait. Seriously. Let it breathe. Let your skin do some of the work. That sharp edge slowly loosens its grip. The green notes step in - pine, juniper - cool, dry, quietly intelligent. Suddenly, it feels shaded. Like ducking into a garden courtyard away from the tourists. This is where Roma Uomo starts to make sense. Clean, grounded, calm without being sterile. And then… the dry-down. This is the reason people still talk about it. Sandalwood and benzoin, creamy and warm, settle in like heat stored in marble. Not sweet. Not showy. Just human. Worn. Familiar in the best way. It’s unisex in that effortless way - like a good leather jacket that doesn’t care who’s wearing it. Masculine through restraint, fluid through ease. Performance is decent. Respectable. But there’s no avoiding the truth: there’s a ghost here. The current formulation feels thinner. The sandalwood doesn’t have the same weight it once did. The transition from sharp to soft isn’t as seamless. It’s still good - very good - but it’s an echo. A well-preserved memory rather than the full original voice. Final word: Roma Uomo is for people who value presence over volume. Perfect for spring, heat, offices, and daily life. It smells like someone who has nothing left to prove. Just be ready for that opening - and be okay knowing you’re wearing a beautifully dressed ghost. One that still, quietly, knows how to hold a room. Vibe: Sun-warmed stone, linen shirts, quiet confidence Best for: Anyone tired of shouting The catch: The opening tests you. And what you’re smelling now is a memory - handled gently, but still a memory More scent stories and visuals on Instagram - @lavendercloudsjd
It evokes good, peaceful, happy times. The 90s when a trip to Italy meant relaxation and sunshine. So, I always buy it. The 75 ml version is perfect for me. I tell myself that the scent is more consistent. Once it evokes pleasant memories, it will always have a place on the shelf. Creamy and very pleasant scent.
Very nice counterpart to Roma Donna, has many of the same features. This one is slightly more sweeter than Donna. I think it makes a good dupe for Hermes Elixir des Merveilles at a fraction of the price. It has the similar orangey woodiness that for some reason gets me stuck on orange Smarties? Possibly the mix of orange, sugar and chocolate? It is evocative of orange trees and hot dusty roads with marble colonnades. As with Donna, this is Roman sightseeing in a bottle.
If this lasted for more than an hour or two it would be in the top 5 warmish weather scents of all time. Still fantastic
Gelato in a linen suit... Roma Uomo was launched in 1992, something of a transitional time in men's fragrances. It was coming out of the strong fougeres of the mid-late 1980s but before the fresh aquatics of the mid-1990s. Safari, Polo Crest, Chevignon, and Jo Malone's Lime, Basil, and Mandarin are from the same moment, a fairly narrow window of fresh-spicy-woody-aromatic-amber scents that actually have a lot to offer. Minotaure is also from the same time, and very much in the same style, though personally I find Minotaure to be notably bolder and more brash (in a good way). Roma Uomo kicks off with citrus, but unlike many Italian fragrances, it's not sharp or bright. This is an orange cream, the olfactory equivalent of a bergamotto dolce, served on marble steps with a view of the Forum. Then comes a peculiar pistachio vibe, not listed in the notes but noticeable. So now we are at orange cream sprinkled with ground pistachios. It’s fun, it’s a little odd, and it keeps things distinctive. The middle section smooths into cinnamon and woods. Jasmine is technically listed, but I really have to hunt for it. The heliotrope is a nice touch that reinforces the sweet-nutty quality. There’s also a faintly synthetic hum underneath everything, but I strongly suspect that is the result of reformulations. I don't think Annick Menardo was originally working with an oil set that had a few vials labeled “orange-ish” and “sort of pistachio.” Regardless, it's not unpleasant, just slightly off center, like the smell of a scent on paper, mixed faintly with the scent of the paper itself. The drydown shifts gears into amber, vanilla, and benzoin, where the pistachio-cream echo lingers in a muted way. Patchouli gives just enough earth to keep things grounded, so you don’t float away on a sugar cloud. It’s sweet, but it’s cozy, sort of like amaretto. Performance is low-moderate, which is a polite way of saying not that great. Projection is about the same. It's noticeable for a bit, then it's a private pleasure. You could reapply, but then you’re that person carrying a fragrance bottle around Rome, and that sort of ruins the sprezzatura. Overall, Roma Uomo is unusual in that it feels like it narrowly misses the mark in several ways, but always seems to make up for it on the next try. Initially, I thought was a bit disappointing. Then I warmed to it. Then I thought my initial impression was correct. Then I started to appreciate it more. By that time, I was surprised to find that I was halfway through the bottle. Early misgivings aside, I actually do like it quite a bit. In fact, I wouldn't mind an actual dessert modeled on it.
I gave my bottle of this to someone whom I thought loved it more than I did. But I really missed wearing it, and so eighteen months later, I bought another bottle for myself, and won't give this one away. This is one of the greatest autumnal scents for men I've ever experienced. Neither orange nor vanilla are officially listed in the note pyramid, but it reminds me of an orange creamsicle nonetheless... but it's not sharp nor is it even a gourmand, really... it's more like the faded memory of a creamsicle. It evokes rain and nostalgia and quiet and contemplation.... the perfect fragrance for fall.
Scent of classy 90's gentlemen. My father had it in his cabinet when I was a kid and the smell is just captivating (that was 20-25 years ago). I have a Roma at all times with me. The opening is pure smoothness. Soft, elegant...amazing. The only downside is that it lasts until you reach the door. It has 0 longevity, even for an EDT it is too low.
Perfect for a spring or summer day when you’re just gonna be out for a few errands. The longevity is awful but what do you expect from and edt. I strictly use this as a gym/errand scent. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a great smelling fragrance
As a teenager and student, Roma was my go-to fragrance for the summer. The scent opens fruity-sweet, a little citrusy—not lemon, but more like a long-ripened grapefruit. The ripe grapefruit is accompanied by something creamy and sweet in the background, likely either benzoin or amber. Gorgeous! The first association that comes to mind is an expensive fruit sorbet you might enjoy in summer at a fine-dining restaurant in Monte Carlo in Monaco. Of course, the quality of the individual fragrance ingredients is clearly below that of comparable citrus fragrances like Versace Eros Energy or the entire range from Acqua di Parma. The synthetic note is quite noticeable, but for this type of scent profile and considering the price, it doesn’t bother me at all. What does stand out, however, is the sillage: initially incredibly strong, but it drops significantly after about 30 to 60 minutes. As an eau de toilette, the longevity is also rather short—especially in summer, with high outdoor temperatures and the tendency to sweat. Overall, a great and underrated summer perfume—unfortunately with short longevity. Blind buy-safe? 100%.
Sweet orange pudding is what popped up in my olfactory system. Citrus freshness that disappears in 10 minutes. Than that green, fruity sweet creamy sandalwoody smell with a touch of spices in the drydown. I watched this one in cheap drugstores, websites and perfume warehouses for decades. Never bothered to try it or look at it more closely. Until I started this almost obsessive hobby that gives me lot's of pleasure and fulfillement. The name Annick Menardo came into my scoop. And after buying a couple of her creations (Jaïpur, Kouros Body, Coolwater Intense, to name a few), I started to appreciate her skills more and more. She creates rather linear perfumes that at first smell lack depth and complexity. But after let's say 5,6 wearings the love for her characteristic style grows and grows. It can take years. But now Roma Uomo is a precious gem for me. The smell calmes and comforts me. It reminds me indeed of Roma, one of my favourite cities. The powdery smells of the dusty streets, a quick lunch in a tiny street or alley. Orange ice-cream! Vanilla cream on warm cake. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. The price is so low you can over spray big time. Than it lasts 8 to 10 hours on my skin. I love everything about this. The box, the tacky bottle and the juice. I bow my olfactory head to Annick Menardo and Laura Biagiotti. Amore.
Deserves to be gate kept 😁. Such exquisite sweetness yet not cloying nor generic. There’s no hint of synthetic metallic smell. It’s a great scent for a cold winter night out on a sophisticated setting. Quite potent so don’t over spray. Will still cling to your shirt the next day. Kudos to the late Laura Biagiotti
it smells like ck eternity for men edt
Oh my ou my! Am I excited? My all time favorite juice I finally got bought with both, Edt and After shave cologne! So many times on my intentions to buy, last time in tax free on ferry got payment cancel for data connection failed! Twenty over years, after hundred of frags gotten, Roma is still THE fragrance, like Kouros, Dior's, Dreamer, etc, etc..look at these reviews, even here for such a long time on the row!
*EDITED* Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 220 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased October 2024 Basically a citrus that is quite fresh too. It's powdery in the fruit department. I can't remember when I last wore this. Reminds me of the good old days when citruses and fresh scents were actually good, now they're all shit. Can't say I have plans to wear it again. Oh but the bottle is poorly made. The silkscreening of the logo peels off as soon as you touch it and has the appearance of poor manufacturing/transfer onto the glass. The glass looks good with that 90s frost everybody grew to love. For some reason this smell reminds me of the cap colour. There's quite a lot of orange going on with this bottle but also some soft powder intertwined. I don't know how to describe it accurately. Perhaps it's a wood for spring and autumn, maybe summer that's why I said citrus earlier. -- Okay I revisited it, sort of felt bad for how good quality the scent itself is in contrast to my initial comment, and sprayed it 5 times - felt risky today. But all in all, it's actually quite woody and powdery. It's a delicate, comforting, almost luxury scent. Very much gentlemanly. I'll tell you more on what you could expect if you're new to Roma Uomo - basically is the progenitor of Lomani El Paso. It's the same thing except for the fact El Paso has more citrus and just a hint of vetiver or whatever "green in the desert with a tumbleweed in the backdrop" is supposed to be. My sense of smell did not pick up on the obvious, to the trained nose, comparison of El Paso. It's more woody and powdery with a lesser bold citrus throughout - it's the nice citrus is what they have in common while still sharing a ballpark vibe or flanker nature. If you want something not too manly, that mature women would love or already have worn (evidenced by the comment section), then hell yes let's come together and celebrate a bygone era of the citrus early '90s that everybody was experimenting with at the time. This one is basically for anybody. It let's the man carry on being a man. It makes the woman even more womanly. Any objections... If you were to get with a woman wearing this I'm sure you'll be rushed to the emergency room at some point in the evening ;)
This is a very sweet, cuddly, refreshing and classy perfume of the 90’s. I somehow always come back to Roma as i have a lot of memories with this beautiful scent. The bottle is also very elegant, notes are beautifully crafted to release a very warm, woody, ambery and sweet classic scent.
This scent reminds me of years past. Despite being named Roma UOMO - this reminds me of my mom, who wore this religiously. And it matches her personality perfectly; it's fun, upbeat, carefree, and charming. Projects ok for a freshy, lasts pretty good. It's a nostalgic scent that will never go away.
Review of the new formula, manufactured in Italy by Angelini Beauty SpA: Recently, I had dug out my old backup bottle of Roma Uomo out of curiosity. It was buried all the way in the back of a cabinet and was dated to 2005 according to the batch code. It had always been a favorite of mine, but I haven't had a 75mL of some newly manufactured juice in a while, and I noticed that people on here were complaining about a reformulation, so naturally I had to find out what was going on. The only difference I perceive between a 2005 bottle and a 2021 bottle are that the plastic cap on the vintage bottle is speckled whereas the plastic cap on the new bottle has no speckles, and that the new bottle's sprayer is significantly improved, with that pressurized feature that all the kids love nowadays. The smell remains the same. I thought at first the performance may have been slightly degraded, so this morning I put one spray of 2005 on my left wrist and one spray of 2020 on my right wrist. It has been six hours and I can smell the base of both clearly, and they are identical. Actually, the new bottle smells better. It has fresher top notes, and the woods in the base are intact. Despite what you may have read, this was never actually a "beast mode" fragrance, which is why I was surprised when reading that a reformulation killed it's performance. It's always been an intimate/romantic style fragrance. As for the smell itself, it's still my favorite in this category. Oriental fougeres are tough to strike a balance. Individuel give connotations of fabric softener, Sculpture smells like sharp air fresheners or hand towelettes, Le Male is overdone, etc. I really enjoy this even more after doing a deep dive into resins last year. This perfume contains notes of galbanum, pine/fir balsam, and benzoin, which all coalesce to form the main accord of the fragrance after the crisp citruses have worn off. The effect is casual and breezy, perfect for a spring or summer afternoon with linen clothes on. The galbanum and pine contribute to a fresh green "sappyness," while minty geranium, basil and blonde woods create a smooth, clean fougere effect in absence of coumarin. The benzoin in the base gives a warm glow to the entire composition while also providing a powdery aspect, likened by other reviewers to a "chalky" kind of feeling, which is accurate. Even though I have been wearing this on and off since I was a teenager, I can't help but feel that I haven't fully appreciated it until now. This can be worn by any age group, but particularly fits individuals who are craving something original, with a laid back mediterranean vibe, without a scratchy noxious harsh base etc. Thoroughly recommended and incredible juice! I hope the comparison between P&G and Angelini batches helps somebody.
You literally smell like a section of citruses. More so orange
I'm going completely by my experience on this one because it's such an evocative scent. First thing that comes to mind is Creamsicles. Orange. Vanilla. Sweetness. Cinnamon. Cedar. Sandalwood. Brown sugar. This is definitely a very nice fragrance. However, I don't have a vintage bottle which is what all the rage is most about. My bottle is from 2022, made in Italy. Still though, a very nice fragrance. This is a gentleman scent. A relaxing evening with family, friends, spouse, or just taking a walk at the beach. It's a very evocative fragrance. Does it remind me of the 1990's? Not really. This does fit there. But to my mind, it's just a different fragrance, made with good creative thoughts. Evocative. My bottle's longevity is about 3-4 hrs at best, arms length sillage after about 30-45 minutes. My bottle is not beastly, it's intimate. Very well made. I wish I'd tried the vintage. I believe the vintage is made by P&G Beaute Prestige in Germany. I could be wrong, but the vintage ain't definitely made in Italy because mine is and it's just not a very long lasting scent. Still, a very lovely creation. Thought provoking for sure. I'd think more of the late 1980's, early 1990's at most.
On my skin the benzoin in this renders it almost 1:1 to classic Burberry for Women? Voting it up i see that im not so crazy! But definitely didnt expect it! Nice!
So, back in 2007, I worked for just three days with a colleague who smelled… unexplainable. I didn’t think it could be a perfume because, well, it didn’t smell perfumey. I thought it must have been some fabric softener or something. That smell stayed imprinted in my memory, and I searched for it ever since. Fast forward to 2019, and a friend of mine was wearing Roma. That was it! The scent I couldn’t get out of my head because of its subtle, persistent presence. Gorgeous drydown! As a woman, I love wearing this, and I find it absolutely unisex.
