Very fruity and mature ig
I purchased Gucci Flora on ebay and was a bit dissapointed when instead of the bottle of Flora, Notorious was in the box - a bottle of Lauren Notorious. Well, I found the listing for Notorious and then messaged the seller (same as for the Flora). I liked the first sniff of Notorious, so if I paid for it, then all the seller had to do was sent the Flora! So that worked out except.... Notorious has that same problem of most any perfume introduced after the year 2000. And that is there is almost no longevity or sillage. It's all flowers, water, fruit and poof! Gone! The top notes are bright and pleasant - pepper and black currant really stand out. Then they just drop off the face of the earth within minutes. The next thing I can smell is a watery week peony/carnation combo. It's lovely when it's present but it is quite fleeting. The white chocolate is there but almost quickly drowned out by the basenotes of patchouli musk and orris root. The basenotes are weak, like ghosts of their former selves. It's a shame because this combo of scents is really lovely. I could love wearing this if it it were - more present! It's there, but so weak. Like a tease I keep going back to my wrist for a sniff but I get let down because it just isn't. I mean it. Like a sign in a fog - you know it's there and has important information - you just can't see it well enough to know if it says anything at all. I want to love this after that first spray, but it dissappears. I just got it today. Maybe a day's time will help. I like loud scent like Aromatics Elixer by Clinique or even vintage Lauren by Lauren. I love D&G's Light Blue. Surprisingly, that one lasts! Philosophy's Pure Grace is a beautiful scent but that one also disappears on me about 60 minutes after a nice generous spray. The ones that fade do it whether i spray it on my hair, my clothes, my bedding, or my oiled skin. The ones that last - they sing all the notes at different times sometimes - from the coats in my closet or a hairbrush in my dresser - like a friend stopping in to have a laugh over old times. The scents that fade away to nothing do me no favors. They are like the people you like till you find it's all a facade and there is nothing underneath. Or a pretty face and an evil heart. Nice to look at till you realize no amount of beauty can make you love the anything about the mean parts. The disappearing scents aggravate me. Guerlain's lovely vanilla scents from l'art de la matiere do the same to me. But Habit Rouge doesn't! Maybe I will wake up with an urge to sniff my wrist with Notorious, and maybe when I do, it will be a satisfying sniff of that beautiful combo of notes. Because there is nothing ugly about this perfume! There is nothing Notorious about it either unless you count the disappearing act. I sprayed it just before I started writing this. Now that I am done, so is the fleeting scent on my wrists! Maybe there is a hint of white chocolate and black currant with musk. Just a tiny tease. Not even a hint of the rest of the fragrance. Maybe I made myself noseblind! Maybe i need more time for it to come out from underneath my pillow or somethin...If I don't add another comment here tomorrow, then neither did Notorious on my wrist. Its absolutely beautiful - but fleeting.
I like but don't love this. Given the reviews, I was hoping for something a little darker and a little naughtier, but on me it's a pleasant, not overwhelming amber floral. I don't get the femme fatale references on myself; it's nice, but not quite sexy. It would be a nice evening or date night scent. For me, it's nothing I'm really going to reach for, but I'm not mad I have a sample. Over time: Starts with a big hit of black currant, yum. Ten minutes in it's hard to distinguish notes, it's just a mélange of currant, flowers, and green. Forty minutes and it has settled into something mostly floral, but warm, more like amber than chocolate. At an hour and fifteen minutes, it's warm, pleasant florals, not too dry. At 2.5 hours, more of the same: it's mostly just amber and peonies. On me it eventually turns a bit musky, but vanilla never appears as a note in its own right, maybe just sweetening and smoothing things in the background.
(Cue noir music) Detective PJ: The trouble with dames is dames is trouble, and this one was no different. She looked as if she’d walked off a pedestal and into the office. She had a body like the Indy 500, all curves and explosions. She was wearing the nicest dress I’d ever seen. And by ‘nice’, I mean ‘red’. And by ‘red’, I mean ‘tight’. Isabelle: Hey handsome, you’re the hotel detective around here? PJ: I will be in ten minutes, I’m on my coffee break. Isabelle: I’m Isabelle, Isabelle Merril. And I can pay. PJ: Alright, start talking. (From Thrilling Adventure Hour podcast, Beyond Belief show, Episode 10 “The Devil and Mr. Jones”) The dame would have worn Notorious. 💋 On my skin, it was a sweet mix of amber, cherry, and rose. Reminded me a little of TF Lost Cherry.
Notorious is a great name for this scent profile. It's both unique and common at the same time. XD I recommend IF you find it at a steal. It's not a 1 sprayer, but it's not a body mist either. This is a one note nelly, but it's a really nice note. On me, it's a spicy-sweet carnation floral with a lightly musky dry down. I have Vivienne Westwood Boudour; a high quality carnation scent. Notorious definitely smells cheap by comparison. It's a great summer-fall scent, such an odd season span. It's distinctive, but approachable.
First present my bf bought me 12 yr ago. It makes me feel very expensive and classy. Its an unusual scent I think. Not as mature as maybe no5 but a more younger power boss scent. Love it.
Top: Great from the off. Softened quickly but no sudden hit initially. Heart: Very floral with sweet sugar but mostly floral. Subtle. Base: This got lovelier and turned to soft honey as time went on. I really love it but I think it may remind me of a friend which is a bit unfair as I'm not thinking objectively. It's a nice fragrance but it's not mine, it's someone else's!
Lovely packaging for a start: it is very Hollywood movie of the Forties like, very elegant in its black box and the bottle is a multi faceted square crystal rectangular block, with a large square crystal clear cap. Bold, impressive and impossible not to notice it. It reminded me immediately something Veronica Lake would have kept on her dresser! So much for the outside. The frag, unfortunately, is nothing special. It lacks personaity and is very mainstream. To me, it's overly sweet with fruity and cocoa notes, although they are mixed with fresh top notes (bergamot). Not original and not well blended. The base is a typical patchouly & vanilla combination that lacks intensity. Poor staying power, in the end it is a complete disappointment: from the packaging, the presentation and the name you would have expected a real rich, deep "hollywood diva" perfume. This is not the case, at all.
Found a sample hidden in a shelf. Probably a very old 1.5ml sample. What did I do? Sprayed. Smells really feminine and luxurious. There's a sweet and slightly powdery quality to it. It does smell very pleasant. A nice scent to discover! :D
The scent comes across as intimidating at first and somewhat masculine... then wait for it...... Slowly it morphed into a wonderful peppery, musky, chocolate surprise... Its very unique and sophisticated. I do not have anything like it in my collection, and I have lots of perfumes if not everything... obsessive. The combination is really unusual but it works. Please try it first do not blind buy this. Overall shes a beauty and I don't know why its discontinued. 7/10 Edit after a few weeks; So staying power is rather disappointing. I am trying to make sense of this beauty.
A couple years ago I had this fragrance and quickly used it, it was very easy to reach for and sometimes needed to be reapplied during the day. It's a sparkly holiday scent for the rich, cosmopolitan lady. Madison Avenue, not downtown. The pink pepper and, apparently, black currant have a very immediate cranberries and champagne effect. But I def would not call this fruity. There's something about it that recalls scents from a previous era but it also doesn't have that loud hairspray sillage. The other notes make me think of being in the leather and wood filled lobby of a nice hotel. Or window shopping at Saks on Fifth during Christmas seasons of the past. You don't have to be a rich lady to pull this off. I wore it with my athleisure lol. But I loved it for that time between Thanksgiving and Christmas when I wanted to imagine a bit of class.
This smells of sophistication! I totally get the old Hollywood glamour. Beautiful woman with tumbling waves down her back and red lipstick. It smells like the add for it looks, no kidding. Retro vibe without aldehydes. When I smell this I think of an upper class woman. Understated elegance. It has something of the Chanel vibe without turning sour as most Chanels do on me. For me, it's a work fragrance, when I want to look polished and put together. Would also work for a first date. It's alluring and delicate. Not too sweet. Not shouting, but whispering. A shame it was discontinued.
I bought it as it somewhat reminded me a little bit of this and that. Namely, a little Gucci by Gucci, Coco Mademoiselle, etc. It seemed nice, but years proved - not my taste, as I rarely ever used it. Interesting fragrance with good lasting power.
This is a "Dark" Scent kind of like Faire by Van Cleef and Arpel. Nothing Fruity about this scent and definitely not for everyone. This is Mature not young and light and airy. Meant for Cold Nights and Mysterious Women.
I am very new to the world of fragrances, so bear with me, it's my first review! I remember my mother bought this at a warehouse sale when I was a very young girl (11-14 years). She tried it out for a while, but decided she didn't like it and gave it to me. I remember smelling at that age just pure harsh chemicals. Like the typical perfume alcohol smell, but 100x worse. I didn't smell a lot of perfume back then and was accustomed to Bath and Body works fragrance mists, so that was probably why lol. I tried it out again when I was a teen, and absolutely loved it! I wore it to all my business competitions and formals, I felt like a real grown up! "Notorious" is a good name for this fragrance. It brings into mind a femme fatale wearing a peacoat, pearls and a felt hat. It is not "notorious" in a gourmand, scandalous bombshell sex-bomb way. It is not too elegant, cold and refined either. It's not Marilyn, but still not Elizabeth either. It is mature, elegant and sultry - but still sweet and charming. Actresses that come into mind are Natalie Wood and Ava Gardner. I think RL marketed this well. Very feminine and alluring! For me, I don't pick up on any spicy notes. There is no trace of any fruity or citrus notes, either. Notorious smells just mostly floral, all the way through. It is fairly linear. Maybe it's because of my beginner nose, but I can't seem to detect the florals used. But it's not a dry, fresh white floral. The floral notes are nice and smooth. It is sweet (I think from the white chocolate), but not synthetic. There is a smoky, slightly balsamic element to it too, but it doesn't clash and smell bad or masculine. Notorious also smells kind of thin and watery, which probably is because of the champagne note. I agree with some of the reviews here, this is very fizzy! This fragrance is really just a nice "perfume-y" smell. Warm florals, smoke and dark chocolate, with the cold liquid element of champagne. The silage is OK, but the longevity is crazy! You could smell this on your wrist for a couple of days. One spritz and you're good to go. Notorious is definitely an evening scent, but I could see a beautiful businesswoman wearing this in the day time as well. Love it. I hope I explained this well!
I really, really want to love this fragrance, but I just don't. I've tried multiple times over 10 years to just like the perfume, but it does not mesh with my body chemistry. It's more of a spicy scent than a floral scent, and I just can't wear it and feel like it's flattering. I've got a 3.4 oz full bottle with approximately 10 sprays used out of it. Anyone want to trade?
I didn't see this coming. I sampled this because of white chocolate note and the opening took me by surprise as I got very strong vintage feel with carnations, bergamot and very sharp pink pepper. This is not my cup of tea at all but you know what? I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. There was some sort of very masculine vibe... and quite an attractive one. The drydown got milder and I could detect vanilla and a little bit of white chocolate and musk. Think it's more fall/winter frag. Warmer and spicy, moderate sweetness. It's so different but somehow sensual.
Another one that starts out promising, bright florals with a little fruitiness, but is just so plain by the time it dries. Sharp and cheap soap smelling. I'd rather go for pleasures intense which is similar in some ways and much more impressive in smell and sillage.
Great perfume commercial. Name of it misterious. However, I do not like it, I do not know which ingredient makes me feel breezy, so they like cold air, at least in the beginning, a bit like the cold is in Arden Provocative Woman, after 3 hours are a bit warmer. However, there is nothing in them oriental. Interesting yes. Unusual yes. Not for me, though. I tested them in warmer days and cooler. Well, I'm telling them goodbye.Had few samples.
my friend brought a sample of this home. i swear that i like it so much that i want to wear it first thing tomoro before im off to work i was feeling a bit glamourous since i was smitten of laetitia casta in the comercial adds of notorouis...fast forward to some time i was able to get myself a full bottle. notorious starts off a bit peppery...might be a bit overwhelming for some folks but the heart was my favaorite. combination of chocalety white flower gets me off my feet dreaming like a big hollywood star it dries down to woody vanilla...i miss the feeling that i felt wearing it years back..hee
This one was a present from a friend. I like ( don't love it). I do enjoy wear when I wearing Nautical style clothes ( for some reason). Have a nice vintage smell to it ( I do love vintage by the way). Not necessary my signature I don't think. Some of my friends seems to like when I wear it. Is not my favourite one unfortunately but I would don't mind to buy it once mine finishes ( if I can get cheap). I think I have a love/hate relationship about this one and for some reason I feel like I couldn't live without! Doesn't lasts much what is a shame and maybe that's why is not my favourite one .
Chocolatey and smoky, dark yet effervescent. A stunner. Beautiful bottle too!
My father presented me with a gift set for Christmas the year it was released. I fell in love upon first spray. Sadly, several months later my bottle mysteriously disappeared from the hotel room I stayed in on vacation. I resigned myself to the loss of my perfume, as I finished off the lotion and shower gel from the set. I recently scored a full 75 ml replacement bottle on ebay for a mere $20 bucks! The juice is just as magical as I remembered. Notorious opens with fizzy, pink pepper and blackcurrent overlayed with a sheer veil of citrus notes. Its quite effervescent at first. With the arrival of the mid notes comes spicy carnation anchored by a rich, creamy-but-unsweetened, white chocolate note. The spicy, chocolate dipped carnation stage lasts about 6 hours but gradually softens as it dries down. The dry down becomes a delicate veil of patchouli and musk that blends effortlessly with the last traces of the green-floral-chocolate notes. As with all Lauren perfumes this too can be a sillage powerhouse if oversprayed. The pepper and carnation notes can be sneeze inducing, so apply with a light hand. For me Notorious does indeed conjure images of the classic film era, while the beautiful art deco bottle looks elegant atop my dresser.
I reviewed this before, but today after a few years I tested it again and I was enchanted in a whole new way. If Lancome La vie est belle and Armani Si would have a love child on a leather bed this would be it. Its one of what I call "dark sweet" perfumes with a hint of leather. If you want to get noticed and to have confidence this is it. This can talk the talk for you. And at this price, if you cant afford Coco by Chanel, get this. Perfume connaisseurs, not perfume snobs will appreciate it. Mr. Lauren, if you get this, bring this gem back!
Not a review as i already reviewed this wonderful perfume. More of a reminder that this is underrated!! the fact that it gets some hate-love reaction means it's more challenging than your average mainstreams scent! seriously i love the vibe it projects, it has a Chanel thing to it... the powdery soft spiciness, the white chocolate, soft white flowers and the beautiful retro black currant...
Notorious enchanted me. I tested it today for the first time and it caught my attention immediately as a perfectly vintage perfume even though it's not:) It has a straight citrus and peony vibe with a strong cassis note spiced up by carnation but only slightly - just enough to give it this 1980's or even 70's feel. In time, all these notes settle leaving room mostly to peony which persist and is the reminiscent of Ralph Lauren Romance. Yet another one on my "WANT" list;-(
I was given a bottle of Notorius, and when I first tried it, I dismissed it right away, regretting that I even opened it rather than just selling it. It smelled like light but scratchy florals and did not last. I had always been more appreciative of warm, complex, bold, or vintage perfume, so this one received no respect from me. It felt like they diluted Lauren and added some citrus and fruits in there. So 2 years later, and not as obsessed about finding amazing perfume, I released a few sprays onto myself. This time I gave it more consideration. The early whiffs were quite intriguing, with fragrant lime which turned into a warm sweet candied orange. After reading the notes, I am guessing that the currant mixed with bergamot created that sweet orange dessert smell for me. I became hopeful that I could really like this and wear it regularly. Lots of soda fizz, lots of floral, strong but cold. It felt like a Ralph Lauren perfume. Alas, after all the interesting parts were over and done with, it's a pleasant enough fresh scent. Sometimes if I stick my nose right up to my skin, I feel like something heavenly is there, but if I try again, then I lose it. I get too tired trying to decide how I feel about this, so I'm going to put it back in the box and not think aobut it right now.
This is a rich exotic fragrance. It reminds me of Coco Chanel but I like Notorious better. At first spray I'm not a big fan-It smells like heady heavy olden days scent. However this dissipates fairly quickly and this exotic long lasting scent then stays with you all day. Because it is so distinct I can imagine you either like it or you don't. Personally I think its probably better for evening wear. Its definitely worth a try.
Thank you to my swap partner. Notorious is a beautiful scent that seems to have a niche type vibe. Upon application you get a chocolate note. It's gourmand without being nauseating. LOVING this one and I must agree it smells very similar to Extraordinary. If your seeking a warm, chocolate note tasty fragrance that is not super gourmand or foody, something that has a niche quality this is your girl. If your seeking a traditional floral Ralph Lauren scent you might be quite disappointed with this as it is not a feminine soft spring floral.
