Copper

Have you ever prepared black tea in a metal teapot, yeah think that you are out of the tea, now remove the debris, throw the teapot outside, wait it go get rusty, then smell it, this probably smells very close to what that is, and unless you are Dracula or Nosferatu, don't even think about wearing this. I dont even think this was made to be worn tbh. Is it artistic? Yes very much. Is it scary? Also yes.

Warm metal meets sparkling nature: an herbaceous opening that lingers and transforms over time with an underbelly of warm, tobacco and metallic—like greenery in a smoking pipe or eating chocolate in cedar-sapped woods. Great sillage and longevity, comforting yet confident. Addictive and complex in the best way: pleasantly surprised with how well the warm woods works with the slight metallic undertone. The metallic is the first note to fade in favor of the vanilla amber base, but it continues to change and different notes reappear.

Green,metallic and gross opening,but the drydown redeems itself.Its vanilla with metallic tobacco and a slight green undertone.Smells like the concept of a mechanical flower in my opinion.

this one is very special to me cause it reminds me of my childhood somehow. it kinda smells like my grendparent's car used to smell in my childhood when we used to go for a roadtrip to the south of our country. unfortunately since like 10y.o i haven't been able to feel that scent cause they changed that car. but how amazed I was when first tried this one on my skin... it just shooted me to the depth of my memories into the time when the grass was greener, sun was brighter and the sky was clear as a tear. i simply love this one

My favourite fragrance from Comme des Garçons. It’s a vanilla scent that isn’t too sweet. 10/10. It doesn’t give me the impression of copper. It smells like an old wooden shed.

Opens green, peppery, and only slightly metallic. As the top notes fade, the metallic and tobacco notes really start to come through. For about an hour or two, it took on a an addictive and slightly sweet metallic scent that I absolutely adored. Unfortunately, after a few hours the metallic notes dissipated and the vanilla base became nauseatingly cloying, at which point I had to scrub it off.

Interesting, avant-garde, yet pleasant and comforting. It beautifully blends seemingly incompatible notes into a cohesive scent. It opens with a slightly bitter, metallic edge (which is, unfortunately, lost too quickly) alongside prominent galbanum and tobacco leaf. As it develops, it transforms into a warmer, sweeter, and deeply powdery scent. It smells like many different things depending on what you focus on at the moment: copper cookware, medicinal mountain herbs, makeup powder, or dry chocolate shavings. 7.5/10

it does its job perfectly, im not too interested by smelling like copper to begin with, but if you do ? then you should get it immediately and it has some depth too its not just "metal" it filled my entired room off only one spray lol

Very earthy, raw tobacco, and a hint of vanilla to try and smooth it out. I’m about 99% certain that it has Vetiver as its main makeup because my skin projects it like crazy whenever it comes in contact with that ingredient. Can see what people would like about it because it does have a metallic scent and has that strange dna that makes up all CDG perfumes. If Vetiver, chocolate, and dark in the middle of winter scents are your thing, this is for you.

definitely has metallic aspect but the overall profile is slightly feminine, slightly sweet but slightly "cheap". if I smell this with the knowledge it's CdG and the benefit of the note breakdown, I can get it. but I think if I were to smell it blind in someone else , I'd just think it's a cheap sweet perfume. not a hate by any means but not for me

Truly a piece of contemporary art. It's somehow perfectly copper and not copper at all. Opens with a sharp galbanum note and dries down to a wonderfully synchronous mix of green, metallic, and vanilla notes. It shouldn't work but it works so well; it's surprisingly wearable for something so avant garde. No idea why so many people have rated this as a fall or winter wear though, this is fully spring/summer to me. I only ordered a sample size but the actual bottle is so beautiful as well. This is so perfectly CDG to me and really epitomizes the house.

It's unique scent but not the most pleasant

Smells like an old orthodox church. Cold aromatic, complex, very gothic and atmospheric. Interesting to experience but not exactly wearable, even for me. The sharpness doesn't carry over into the drydown but said drydown is quite faint. It is barely detectable nose-to-skin after a couple of hours so the 9ml is enough for me

It's got a lot of character and you actually get a whif of copper every now and then. I'm still making my mind up on it but it is very impressive, as concrete was. Wearable fragrances that genuinely remind you of concrete and copper. I didn't even know concrete had a smell but they captured it perfectly and they've done it again here. Im just not sure if this is for me but I'm still very Impressed nonetheless.

Ordered a bunch of CDG samples and Copper absolutely blew me away. Yes, the galbanum opening is very overpowering, but it calms down in just ten minutes or so. I do think the name Copper fits it nicely - it's metallic, fizzy and rusty, ozoney and very very fresh. And undeniably green. It makes me think of some kind of overgrown abandoned industrial area, full of rust. But in a crisp and cool way, not old or pungent. After about 6 hours it goes through a switch - from sharp and fresh to something more warm and comforting. The galbanum and metallic notes fade, and the vanilla and tobacco come forth. I love this transition - from refreshing and energising in the morning to soothing and comforting in the afternoon. I'm going to play around with the other samples for a while, but I'm pretty sure it will be Copper that I order a full bottle of in the future.

Tread lightly! This is potent. A little spritz goes a long way. 👍🏼

Galbanum has a sharp green smell which, to many, smells cold and metallic. I don't really get that... Galbanum, to me, smells sharply green and balsamic.. a massively potent note I'd recognize anywhere. CdG COPPER smells incredibly good: green, spicy, drying down to cozy, almost-sweet tobacco and vanilla/powdery hints. I think it's safe to call it a "Green Oriental"... a classification we don't often see. (Perhaps the first Green Oriental was Guerlain VOL DE NUIT in 1933). To my way of thinking, COPPER smells very masculine, indeed, almost like a modern take on KNIZE TEN. COPPER alludes to the past of manly-man fragrances, in the very best way; I can't read it as unisex. A real "flannel shirt" type scent... which is to say, a woman will go crazy sniffing this scent in the collar of her man's flannel shirt after he's gone. This scent is wonderfully powerful and complex-- not minimalist and transparent, like other CdG scents-- and as such is probably best worn in Autumn and Winter. I love this addictive number.

ultimately, copper is a green fragrance. it is a very subtle, sharp, fresh fragrance that is hard to smell because it is very LIGHT. there is absolutely no depth in this which i suppose gives it a metallic taste. does not smell like pennies in the rain or something. smells sharply green and fresh and light

My 70th review on Fragrantica! And what a beast to hit 70 on! Copper is electrifying. An immediate burst of raw industrial notes and grim nature, which all work in perfect harmony with eachother, followed by a dry down that is a blissful balance of both bitter and sweet. This is another bold olfactory statement, from a brand that in my opinion, has it's ups and downs. Copper is definitely an up. It hits the nail bang smack on it's rusty head, and that rusty nail is being punctured into an old boiler, with gusto, like the person banging it in is efficiently hammering a racist police officer to death. This hammering of various metals takes place in an abandoned warehouse, that mother nature has begun to claim back, due to numerous green plants appearing in cracks. Copper is the smell that is on this rusty nail, when it is pulled out of the old boiler, as it combines with the vegetation scents in the air. It is odd, stark, beautiful, complex and energised. Some of CDG's other scents are Kodak red batteries from the pound shop, but Copper is Duracell batteries from the artisan DIY shop. It wants to shout about it's day to you, after it's done a celebratory line of cocaine. It is also a bit of a romping, steamy love letter to Metal Chypre by Juliette Has A Gun. It wants to fuck that perfume in a forbidden whirlwind romance. It could electrocute an electric eel to death. 10/10. I rarely give out tens, but this one deserves it.

I was in love with this as soon as I smelled the opening. It's absolutely addictive. Not at all surprised to see other people mentioning that it smells like a car in various descriptions. It reminds me of a specific rental car we had on vacation in Florida to go to Disney when I was a kid. A very clean car with an air freshener and the AC on, that's probably been smoked in a few times, before being thoroughly scrubbed--in the best, most nostalgic way. It's definitely a unique scent.

The first time I tried it I was horrified, almost wanted to scrub it off, but also kept coming back to it. Confrontational but alluring. I don’t get copper or metallic, it hits with a wall of tobacco and milkweed, then evolves into a gentle, cosy sweetness that reminds me of violin rosin. Obsessed with this, it’s a trip in a bottle - put it on and ride it out. A scent to wear outdoors in wild places and a coffee-shop afterwards. I keep forgetting I have it on, and getting whiffs of it hours later, it’s comforting and intriguing and I love it.

The opening, just from the bottle and not on skin, is vibrant and nostalgic. Kind of like gin, an unopened packet of gum, a little like pennies, fir trees and new car smell. First on skin, it begins to dry into a kind of mint-like and metallic vanilla, freshly cut grass, and the penny smell fades away into a very faint blood scent. Not unpleasant or overpowering. On me, after a few hours it becomes quite sweet, peppery, and mildly headache inducing. Very much like somebody is wearing a lovely perfume on a long car ride. The staying power is very good, but only the vanilla note remains on fabric the next day. I find this perfume to be interesting an wearable. It is not, for me, a date night scent but one for meeting friends for a few drinks.

Not a copper fragrance. The metallic note mentioned, by CdG and many reviewers, is not that apparent to me. I don't get the blood in the mouth, sucking on a penny (yeah I've done that for scent/flavor memory, what of it, you got something to say?), or a polished piece of dinnerware smell/flavor used with a meal. Perhaps, though, there are a lot more people out there with synesthesia than statistics would suggest. That would explain a lot. Do I have it? I can certainly see the orange-red color of copper when I smell Copper for a good portion of its life more than I can smell metal. Vivid red and white peppercorns, yellow and citrusy ginger, and dry, starchy green notes blur into an orange rainbow at the opening, This rainbow carries on again as green violet leaf and red fruits meld with a growing beige and sweet tobacco note that turn the whole to a brownish red that's leaning a bit green from the weather-age (as copper does). These two sections feel like a multi-layered top instead of a top and a heart simply due to the speed with which they progress and how the notes undulate back and forth. Synesthesia must be fun, like a kaleidoscope going-off in one of your senses other than sight. Copper seems to do that. After a brief time, then... brown? A vanillic amber base - which is a logical connection to the tobacco - pushes quickly into the foreground and the kaleidoscope seems to stop spinning. The abrupt stop makes you miss the previous experience. It's a mind trip you wish didn't come to such a sudden end. That said, the amber base of Copper is very nice; it has a very good balance between woods and incense, sweet and bitter, earth and airy spice, but it is quite flat and still. Copper - the perfume, not the metal - is a solid evocation of a green-note-heavy, tobacco, and sweet woody amber perfume. I'm really on the line with this perfume because it is good, but it seems like a misfire from CdG with what they intended to do. The shift from faux-metallic stridency and vivid coloring that seems to be a product of nature and also a sensory overload to, what it is by feeling, a rather safe cop-out to a manmade archetype of an unrelated template seems too hard to ignore. I wouldn't mind smelling this on someone at all, at any point of the perfume's life, but as the wearer - who must live with it for hours - I would find myself left wanting.

In truth, that sense of copper detected here is but a perfumer-magician's illusion. Make an opening of sharp green galbanum, piercing pepper, black currant, and some petrichor. Then have it come out of a copper-toned bottle and name the fragrance after that same element 29. Voila, olfactory 'visions' of dirty pennies and tarnished brass will dance in your head. Of course, despite the pretense, CdG's Copper is really much more enjoyable than the authentic scent of toxic metal could ever be, ...assuming one could even put copper compounds into perfume without poisoning people! ...and then, when you finally grow weary of such artistic cleverness, the fragrance turns into a gourmand. The deep drydown basically smells like s'mores?!

It's interesting to see how many people like it. Must be a matter of body temperature or chemistry. I've heard people say this doesn't even smell like copper. Copper isn't all I get, but it is primarily what I get. Maybe I've smelled it on someone and didn't know. Maybe I liked it. But I absolutely hate it on me. It's the only perfume I've thrown away.

this smells exactly like concrete after it rains in such a pretty way 🖤

wearing a sample gifted to me by a very lovely coworker. very interesting and attractive fragrance. personally, i find the harsh, metallic, zippy start to be super satisfying and energizing. transforms into a pleasant green. feels like a living thing. something plasticy going on in this stage as well. then dries down to a nice amber, tobacco, vanilla moment, which, surprisingly, is my least favorite phase of wear. smells of a cigarette smoker's car but in a nostalgic way. ultimately reminds me of the most beautiful video game, stray. you play as a cat navigating a post-apocalyptic, overgrown city inhabited by robots, or "companions." this is what i imagine the grandma companion to smell like as she knits electrical wires into scarves.

smells like a wet penny

What a cool fragrance. It starts out smelling exactly as I imagine or remember copper to smell. Very dry, a little harsh, metallic. With an ozonic undercurrent. And something a tiny bit rank. Probably from the black currant. Then it starts to dry down and an aromatic greenery enters the picture, and Copper gets fresh. And uplifting. And feels of growing, living things. Not industrial. Still with the feel of ozone, and a little bit of the metallic edge from earlier, but it honestly now feels like a completely different perfume. And finally a balsamic, ambery, sweet but mild tobacco dry down that is understated but absolutely delicious. You get 3 very distinct stages with this, stage 2 and 3 are wearable whereas 1 really isn’t but it is interesting and it doesn’t last long. Overall Copper lasts about 6 hours on skin.
