Un Jardin Sur La Lagune

6/10. I wish the white flower note was less intense

From WhimSea... Very fitting for the Coastal Grandma aesthetic ~ That's me! I used to have a nice stable of Hermes back in the day, and wanted to recreate those scents...I find Hermes' Jardin line so very fine and well made. I've already added Un Jardin En Mediterranee, and now this one, Un Jardin Sur La Lagune. These are both pretty recent offerings, so not too old timey. Then I'll add Un Jardin Sur Le Nil...one I had from the olden days. They're all pretty spectacular. (I got a set of all seven Jardin samples from the Perfumed Court where I learned about perfume oh, so long ago.) What I like about them is the water theme...especially the sea notes, and especially for summer. Lagune is light, aromatic, watery, somewhat salty, with the slightly sweet florals I seem to have to have. Yep, the coastal grandma aesthetic. What could be better? Except I live in the desert.

Somewhat green, somewhat floral, somewhat in-between - and aromatic! Mostly noticeable are the flowers - rosey I thought at first, but no, it's magnolia and lily. Definitely a very well-rounded and delicate bouquet of flowers, growing in the wild but in a made-up fashion! Excelllent on any woman, I would say, but also wearable for men - think of someone very elegant, well-mannered, eloquant, soft-spoken... wearing this perfume with confidence just as the floral-patterned bordeaux linen polyester shirt that suits him perfectly, complimented by Hermès' latest creation.

To me, Hermès Un Jardin sur la Lagune doesn't smell like a garden. It smells like an old wooden desk, polished by time and by the hands of those who spent countless hours writing at it. It smells of old books, their yellowed pages carrying the quiet scent of paper, fine dust, and forgotten stories. It smells like a stone house in Bologna, cool even in the middle of summer, where thick walls hold the night's humidity and the soft morning light slowly filters through weathered wooden shutters. It smells like a humid summer morning. Not by the sea, nor in the countryside, but in the warm, lingering air of an old Southern European city just after sunrise. It smells like wandering through the hidden streets of Barcelona early in the morning, before the city awakens. The stone is still cool beneath your feet, and the only sound is your own footsteps. Amid all these memories, delicate flowers begin to emerge. I smell luminous magnolia, velvety gardenia, and a green, slightly bitter almond that gives the fragrance its soft, nostalgic texture. In the background, there is a whisper of incense and scented incense sticks. Not the heavy incense of a church, but something subtle and meditative, gently blending with the scent of old wood, cool stone, and the dampness of the morning air. This is not a perfume I wear to impress anyone. It is a perfume that takes me, every single time, to a place where time itself seems to have stood still.

Before smelling Un Jardin sur la Lagune, I had already read the story behind it. Learning that Christine Nagel visited the hidden Giardino Eden in Venice and drew inspiration from its atmosphere to create this fragrance immediately captivated me. Because of that, I felt this could be the perfect fragrance to accompany my own trip to Venice and one that I would forever associate with the city. When I finally smelled it, I found it to be floral, marine, soft, and very rounded. It smells beautiful, with noticeable floral notes accompanied by a subtle aquatic salty touch. Like the other fragrances in the Jardin collection, I consider it unisex, although it leans a bit more feminine to my nose. It’s not my favorite fragrance in the Jardin series, but it’s still a beautiful and enjoyable scent. I’m not sure I’d buy a full 100 ml bottle for myself. However, because of the atmosphere it tries to capture, the Venice theme, the aesthetics of the bottle and packaging, and the fact that I think the scent truly matches that vision, I could definitely see myself buying a 15 ml or 30 ml bottle just for my trip to Venice.

This is a sweet inoffensive white floral. Very linear.

There's no way to describe it, now I understand the ''hip'' about this brand... The smell is simply luxurious. It doesn't smell "like luxurious" but really luxurious! What's strange is that it reminded me a bit of a very old perfume that my mother had, I think It's not a marine perfume but it's not really a green perfume either. I would say it has small, subtle salt notes, a bit floral and very ''luxurious'' (I know luxury is not a scent but that's what I smell...😁) In any case, it's very ''close'' to the skin, it's more like a cologne than an eau de toilette but it's fine for those who don't like a "screaming" and strong scent I love it!

This perfume smells very floral and woody but not cloying to me.I find this scent very unique and what I like the most about it is its dry down. Very comforting. Not a safe blind buy though.

This is not what all current perfumes smell like and that’s what i like about it! It makes me think of those niche artsy perfumes that are not mass appealing but that if you like what it evokes, or you understand what it is about you might appreciate the fragrance and even enjoy wearing it. The humid note on the perfume doesn’t smells like humidity in a closet but more like water on rocks or how everything smells and feels after it rains. Some other comments bellow have describe the image perfect. Someone mentioned a church and some other mentioned Barcelona, to me it’s like walking on a rainy day near the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. I’ve been wearing this often during rainy days. To me this is a personal scent. I don’t know nor care about the sillage but everytime i move i can perceive the unique smell. Without thinking about the notes, it is a soft, creamy cozy hug. Also it reminds me of some fancy soaps my grandma used to have that looked like a Cameo, a fancy lady engraved in the soap. To me it smells like it’s bottle color. So yes it might smell “vintage” if you pay close attention to it, but in a normal day running around, it just feels comforting, beautiful and unique. To me it does not smell like BO, and I am very picky because I can detect BO in lots of perfumes with fruits, animalic notes and musks.

Putting this scent on leaves you smelling of BO that you are now trying to cover up with some florals. Oh, also it smells dated. I would rather smell like nothing, than like this. Ugh, next, next, next, like yesterday.

Christine Nagel’s ‘Un Jardin Sur La Lagune’ seems not to have convinced a whole lot of folk to embrace its elusive charms. Perhaps it’s the pitosporum note, which was never going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but when wedded with the briny, seaweedy, marine breeze blowing inland from La Serenissima’s lagoon and anchored to an aromatic woody base, it leaves little room for me than to declare myself besotted.

its outdated and dry... but top it off with vanilla 28 and OMGGGG! it just needed a little sweetness. now I can't get enough and its so addictive and will definitely be getting some wears out of this all summer!

They feel woven into the atmosphere of an old place filled with light, silence, and memories. There is also a subtle almond facet—slightly bitter, soft, and comforting—that adds warmth and depth. On my skin, it develops an almost spiritual quality, reminding me of delicate incense and scented sticks lingering in the air of a hidden chapel or an old stone house where time seems to move more slowly. If I had to describe it as a place, it would be a humid summer morning in the hidden alleyways of Barcelona, or an old stone house in Bologna with open windows, cool air, and sunlight filtering through wooden shutters. This is not a fragrance that demands attention. It is a fragrance that tells a story—a story of nostalgia, quiet beauty, old architecture, and the kind of places that stay with you long after you have left them behind.

It smells like putting on a floral body lotion and a soft sunscreen before going to the beach, then feeling a gentle sea breeze on your skin. It has this warm, floral, slightly humid clean vibe that feels really comforting. It honestly reminded me of the perfumes I used to smell on my mom years ago. I can see why some people would call it old-fashioned, and they wouldn’t be wrong, but it still smells really nice somehow. The opening actually reminded me a bit of Cacharel Noa because they both have that soft, clean, watery feeling. Compared to all the loud, super modern perfume DNAs today, this one feels much more familiar and classic. For me that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because the quality of the scent still comes through. It smells like something a rich, elegant woman in the 90s would wear. Very timeless and feminine. Even though it smells fresh and clean, it still feels pretty rich and full. I just wish the projection was a little stronger. Even though I don’t love it enough to make it my signature scent or wear it all the time, it’s still really enjoyable to smell. At first, it opens with a very fresh, green and white floral feeling. But as it dries down, I start to notice a salty sea breeze kind of vibe, and the perfume becomes warmer and softer on the skin. Interestingly, the projection also gets a little stronger over time.

All of the Un Jardin collection from Jean-Claude Ellena are fantastic!! The Christine Nagel took over and the fragrances are still quite lovely but missing that x-factor. La Lagune is unisex and leaning slightly more feminine due to more florals in the mix.

No one is mentioning how outdated this smells It has that N’5 aldehydes that I severely dislike salty old school florals

A love at first smell for me. Smells like the cleanest soap at the seaside. I love it and love how it makes me feel.

An aquatic woody floral perfume that gives off 1990’s vibes. I was compelled to get a sample of this from a review by Sharida M on YouTube. My impression was that it was going to be a fresh floral. I like a lot of the perfumes and styles that Sharida likes but this was a miss for me. My fault though, I should’ve known that it wouldn’t work for me because I don’t like aquatic/marine notes and while it’s not overwhelming in Un Jardin Sur La Lagune, it’s still definitely there. Also this composition feels like dated perfumery and there’s a sharpness to this that turns me off to it.

Picture this: You are a supermodel in the '90s. You walk down runways, you're in magazines, you're that type of glamorous that doesn't need to announce it. Despite that, you're not someone to copy. You have addictions, terrible habits, unhealthy standards. You spend countless nights drunk, smoking on balconies, abusing substances... Yet, it's all hidden beneath that black eyeliner, that effortless strut, that figure. Your scars are always neatly photoshopped out, and your tired eyes just make you alluring and mysterious, after all! The people don't know whether they should be concerned, or ask what your secret is. Either way, you'd just say it's kept behind the scenes. No one really needs to know what goes on there. (TL;DR: heroin chic, quiet glamor, models in the 1990's behind the scenes. i would very much say this has that vibe, despite many people first thinking "beach vibes". this, to me, smells like what one of those models would have worn. think kate moss, or jaime king.)

Smells so fresh!! such an underrated scent that's hard to be duped + u won't smell like anyone else in the room

Very fitting for the Coastal Grandma aesthetic ~ 🌊🐚🦀🐬🐙🐠⚓️🪸⛵️🐋 Smells like washing your hands with magnolia-scented soap in a bathroom at a luxurious beach resort. Rich & classy. Moderate strength and long lasting. Love it!

Smells like a 5 star hotel lotion. Very floral with a touch of sea notes. Kind of like wood sage & sea salt with lots and lots of floral touches to it. Not overwhelming its a nice scent and light. Does seem feminine.

A very familiar-smelling fragrance, yet I can’t quite find anything truly similar to it. The sillage isn’t very strong, but the longevity is impressive. It’s my favourite from the Jardin line. Even though marine appears in the main accords, it’s one of those rare scents that doesn’t lean masculine. A wonderful choice especially for summer evenings.

this was one of my favourite scents until ....you know what this fragrance taught me something: never wear your fav fragrance when giving care to your loved ones at hospitals. I used to wear this on the last days of my dad and since then it is not wearable for me. so now I always am very careful what to wear when my mood is not good. etc.

Soapy, beachy, breezy - really like this. If this smell was an outfit it'd be slightly loose rolled jeans and a crisp white linen shirt. This scent really captures that salty bite air has when you are near the ocean, the magnolias are big and juicy but it's really all about that sea breeze. Maybe a little masculine but not to much for me.

If you want a tropical scent but don't want to smell like a vanilla cupcake with coconut icing, this could be something for you. This is warm, floral and oceanic. It reminds me of warm sand and just a litte bit of sunscreen. Or maybe just a bodylotion.. It's not sweet, a bit sauna-esc. Freshness in the background, very elegant imo. A summer favourite!

I completely agree, this is not a safe blind buy, but should certainly be considered, as for fans of soap smells such as myself this is a must. If you've ever used high end soap, or like me, order in Italian soap such as Neste Dante and want that cleanliness to linger, this is for you. It manages to tread the line of clean floral lines without overpowering either yourself or those around you. The inital blast is very heady, like a green stem split into on a bed of crushed petals, but soon settles down and warms up. The experience is a pleasant one, soft magnolia tempers the usually boisterous pitosporum, while fresh and almost ozonic, it remains dense closer to the skin, gentle warming sunlight passing through green and white foliage. The woody notes work entirely to support the other notes, and i think this delivers a perfect unisex fragrance, combine it with your other body products to craft a unique reflection of you. I have teamed it with a little Jennifer Jones Coffee beard oil, or some rosemary body oil, to excellent effects. So far I've only worn this in winter, but I imagine it will work just as well in spring or summer with a few less sprays.
