Furyo is more than just a scent; it's the embodiment of raw, masculine savagery in a bottle. It's a fragrance that doesn't ask permission, doesn't apologize, but asserts its dominance with a fiery, animalic aroma that defies modern, soft fragrances. The first burst: a shock of dry tobacco and dark green notes, immediately followed by sharp civet accords that give the fragrance a ruthless, sensual character. The savage heart: a terrifying fusion of dirty patchouli, heavy leather, and castoreum. A scent reminiscent of an old leather jacket worn by someone who's been through a rough fight. The Eternal End: When this storm subsides, it transforms into a warm, magnetic amber and seductive musk that clings to the skin for hours, leaving behind a mysterious and intriguing trail. Enough, real men, stop wearing Creed Aventus, JPG, and all those sweet, feminine perfumes, there's no difference between you and women... Prove for once that you're a man, wear this fragrance, and be a bold, masculine presence that will inspire awe in people and even angels falling from heaven when they smell it on your jacket or shirt.
Am i the only one who gets kouros mixed with the jasmine floral of joop homme? Unless my mini is a dud, this is what i get... not entirely but a majority is this formula (at least my bottle)
is it discontinued?
I find the vintage to be very different from the modern. The vintage is much more animalic, and has less of the powdery nag champa smell that the modern version does. I got the modern first and loved it, but picked up a vintage hoping it might just be a bit smoother without the same metallic twang in the opening. Instead I got what smells like a different fragrance. I can see the relation, but if I smelled them each side by side without knowing I would not necessarily even be able to tell that they are supposed to be the same fragrance! Although I was disappointed that the vintage had less emphasis on the musky powdery nag champa accord that I really love in the modern, it is also clear to me that the vintage is more of a refined well-blended work of art, it is clearly of a higher quality as far as perfumery goes. But with the heavier animalics it is also more raunchy, more feral. Modern Furyo I could wear out without thinking much of it, but vintage Furyo would have me thinking twice about what message I am sending by smelling like this! Not that it is gross, it doesn't smell dirty or fecal to my nose, it just subliminally puts one in mind of the nether regions of a body. It smells kind of like Sadonaso without the vanilla, or a more interesting and deeper Afrika Olifant. The vintage is definitely better, but the modern is more versatile and more likable. But this is just after a few hours of wearing the vintage. Perhaps I will update with more thoughts after I have lived with it a bit more.
Real time review It's been a long time since I put it on, I just went to bed and decided to retrieve my pre ifra miniature from the bottom of the shelf. I've been up for 10 minutes and I'm in complete ecstasy, I think it’s one of the greatest use of animalics in a commercial perfume. This is how I imagine a castoreum-civet buttery cream, its godly blended, utterly smooth and with an endless depth . Aromatic and amber hints play a wonderful contrast. I have not tried the contemporary version but the sensation given by the natural animal components, given the incredible perceived quality (I am not an expert), I doubt it was possible to replicate it in the versions that followed the ifra restrictions. Still not have it in the collection but absolutely need a vintage furyo full bottle !
To me it smells like the very first Soaps when they started to manufacture Fragrant soaps..it has this Fougere Fart like Accord...just like old soaps
Jacques Bogart's Furyo is good, it's great. It's not as melt-your-face-off crazy as the accords and reputation might lead you to believe, which I think is actually a testament to its strength. Cloudy day today and I biked to the office: easy reach. I don't want to smell Kouros or Antaeus right now. Soft, powdery, lavender-amber-bergamot classic fougere-lite, occupying the same territory as King Lagerfeld. Definitely buy Lagerfeld first.
I’m uncertain if I ever experienced this scent in my younger days, but I can say with confidence that I never owned it. Who could possibly forget such a monumental work of art? What strikes me most after the musk is the presence of juniper berries. Whenever I detect them in any fragrance, they provide an uplifting sensation that most other notes fail to offer. I’m still not entirely sure why that is; perhaps it’s due to all the Christmas shops I was taken to as a child, which evoked a strong juniper berry atmosphere. Regardless of the reason, it brings me back to a more carefree time and thus remains one of my all-time favorite classics. Judging by the listings on eBay, I’m clearly not the only one hooked on it. Bogart might want to consider resurrecting this beastie. I'm currently halfway through one bottle, with 2 sealed away in my closet.
Tired of smelling generic? Tired of mediocrity? Tired of being bossed around? Tired of your wife’s oddly frequent ‘business trips’? If you have answered yes to any of these then look no further than Bogart’s Furyo. A highly dosed injection of purpose, standards, strength, virility and courage back into your life upon first spray. A perfect melting pot of animalics, musks, florals, woods, ambers & tobacco. REAL old school masculine fragrance mastery with heroic blending. Does not smell exactly like any of the fragrances it is compared to but you will definitely feel at home with this one if you are a fan of the style. So what are you waiting for? Go treat yourself to a bottle. Stay pimpin’
@richmilton What's with your obsessive aversion towards the idea of unisex scents, and your obsession with gender in general? LOL. Tell me exactly why a woman can't wear Furyo without telling me it's because the perfumer had a man in their head while creating it, or that society in the 20th century deemed certain types of smells to be masculine or feminine. And if you can't, then it's YOU who is the sheep, rather than the "triggered snowflake who believes there are 8 genders" who doesn't exist that you like to preach to. Boy I'd reaaaaally hate to be you
I'm telling you exactly how I feel back in the day (early 90s), when my grandfather would take me on trips, there were mobile cotton candy vendors. They sold these kinds of amulet-shaped (plastic) colognes. It was as if he'd blown up a cologne there. İt also dances to dry the tobacco and lavender. Clean scent
When you see a review that starts with "I am a woman..." chances are it's a paid review. The fact is "unisex" scents for all 8 genders make the most money.
I am a woman and I love this fragrance. It’s similar to Kouros, but that’s more urinal cake, cleaning product, sharp aromatic. This has a powderiness and is more floral. I love to do two sprays of this on my neck then cover it with Guerlain Vanilla Planifolia. That vanilla is so sheer it sweetens it perfectly but Furyo still shines through. This will forever be a classic!
This is mesmerising. It's like staring into an open fire. It's a flame burning with bright hot amber, musk, clove, cinnamon & lavender. All the while adding potent streams of musky, incendiary civetone into the mix. It's a beautiful night outside. You're warming youself next to a fire pit. Beside you is a rebellous civet, who arrived on his Harley Sportster 1200. He's doning a Hell's Angels vest. You're both drunk off your tits. You light a cigarette. He whips his cock out and pisses into the fire. He doesn't give a fuck and neither do you. The flame is so beautiful...The whole world can burn for all you care!
Got to love and respect this ! Musky-animalic , civet-like-powdery creation... Woody-spicy profile, very well blended and put togheter ! Patchouli, ambers, tobacco like , really wonderful and complex ! They don't make them like this anymore :/
The scent is lame, synthetic, not even catching up to something like Drakkar. It’s more acidic than all that, jittery for no apparent reason or direction. It might find some fans, but probably uncles from the countryside who go drinking at the fire station. Very poor quality — the only plus is that it doesn’t descend into the total crudeness of Lapidus or other trash of that kind, but unfortunately, it’s still in that category. I’m talking about the opening on the skin. For now, it’s hard to talk about any palatability; it’s basically very fruity, a candy that has aged and become so old that you don’t know what it smells like anymore and only reminds you of some sweetness. It could smell like mosquito repellent — lame. ⸻ The vintage is much stronger; only here can you understand what this scent was ever about. Everything I have to say refers to the synthetic smell of used tampons, a mixture of bodily fluids with some plastic. If anything is medicinal, this is a strong example — it’s like a floating, never settling breeze of that sad and very straightforward artificiality of intimate hygiene liquid, which is relentless and blind. More dirty Bijan, Iquitos, maybe Tenere… I’m looking for the least structured, more monochromatic ones. There’s some perversity in it, not unruly but consistent.
Wearing it feels like getting away with something.
Intoxicating animalic powerhouse A few years back, my trusted perfume dealer hit the jackpot—a treasure trove of vintage classics that would make any fragrance lover weak in the knees. Knowing my obsession with the old-school greats, he sent me a sneak peek before the shipment even landed. I had my wishlist locked and loaded. When the box finally arrived, I made the biggest perfume purchase of my life in one glorious, fragrant swoop. Among the gems was this wild, untamed beast known as Furyo. This stuff doesn’t whisper, it roars. Right out of the gate, Furyo hits you with a whirlwind of basil, lavender, cloves, thyme, tobacco, coriander, and incense. It’s like walking into an ancient apothecary where every jar is open and the air is thick with mystery. And then—bam—the animalics crash the party: castoreum, civet, and indole, unapologetically primal and raw. But just when you think it’s all grit and growl, the florals sweep in—rose, jasmine, carnation—adding a lush, seductive elegance. As it dries down, the base gets even more complex: camphorous patchouli, smoky vetiver, earthy oakmoss, and those deep, sensual Tonkin musks. It’s a full-blown olfactory rock-opera. This is no polite, modern crowd-pleaser. Furyo is a feral, musky, floral chypre with swagger. It’s bold, unapologetic, and utterly intoxicating. If you’re a fan of powerhouses like Kouros, Antaeus, or Lui (Mazzolari), this one will feel like coming home. It’s nuclear in strength and lasts forever. Wear it to the office—if you’re the one signing the paychecks. This is alpha-level fragrance. They just don’t make them like this anymore. 10/10
"Furio Would Approve" I can see Furio from the Sopranos wearing this. I own both the modern and vintage formulations, and while the modern version opens more intensely, the vintage wears smoother upon first spray. Once they settle into the dry down, they’re surprisingly close. I’d recommend grabbing the modern version while it’s still available and fair price. This one doesn’t get nearly enough love, and it deserves more attention in the fragrance community.
The cleanest animallic musky fragrance from this era.. masculine and elegant.. If you love this genre of oldschool fragrances, this is better than Chanel anteaus and van cleef pour homme with better price.. nostalgic smell and the dry down is very classy.. no leather or harsh notes .. just pure musk powdery cleanness.
Alongside the likes of encre noire, this is one of the best cheapies ever. An addicting animalic, musky, and earthy concoction that makes you want to sniff your hand non-stop. Lasts a very long time too!
I have a vintage Furyo and the most recent release. They are nearly identical in smell and performance. So don't fall for the BS that "vintage is way better." Some dude probably paid $200 for vintage and wants to convince himself he's not an idiot.
ELDO's Rien is a modern version of this, without the funk/old school vibe of Furyo. Both dry down to a nice sweet incense.
Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 142 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased June 2022 - NOS Strictly for REAL men only! This is what it's all about, better MUCH better than Lapidus and Kouros. Lasts forever and smells like the most romantic tale of love and the conquering of the world - yet there's a fantasy tale of dragons n shit in this. The scent for a jouster. Batch: April 2018.
I prefer Bogart Furyo over Lapidus Pour Homme, Kourous or Antaeus. Quite animalic and bold for the time. If you thought Dana Tabu was a bit too floral try this one. But be careful. Don't spray too much. It can be suffocating like Tabu can be if you overspray. One of my top favorite vintage scents of all time. The Bogart Furyo vintage is what I mean. Not the reformulation version. To tell the difference between the two would be to see which one has a percentage value on the bottle. That would be the vintage. There is a difference, but most won't notice. You don't need the vintage unless it's for a reference. The reformulation is just fine
my god... where do i start??? i got a vintage sample of it after i was curiously eyeing a full unopened bottle but now i don't want it anymore. don't get me wrong. i love vintage scents especially anything that plays with animalic notes. however with this? after one spray of the 2ml sample i got off my chair.. went outside and just stood there to aerate my nostrils with oxygen... this could scrape paint off the wall. however i didn't wash it off. it's not that i don't like it. it's just too damn strong in a way that just isn't pleasant for the wearer and people around you. please miss me with that fake alpha male fantasy talk. however i think for someone into fragrances, this should be comparable as having your first experience with smelling salts. it was a shocking and bizarre fun experience. ''Sexy without being vulgar'', i am for certain that no woman ever, even back then found this attractive smelling lol... lets leave it at that that's all i got to say about it. like i genuinely just find it fun to smell and that's it. but master piece? get out of here LOL... as someone who really loved kouros and even got to smell the old formulation once. it just not in the same class of parfumery. kouros is definitely dirty and animalic and it is not a weak fragrance even with modern formulations. it just always made great use taming difficult animalic notes so masterfully. furyo however?? smells like the adrenalized sweat of a frightened raccoon. i scrolled around and laughed my ass off reading the comparisons to a porta potty or urinal. YES!.. i agree. some even said it smells like being held captive? YES that too.. if fragrances could have their own movie Furyo would be a horror film! like fun corny brutal 80s slasher! matter the fact i think jason voorhees would smell like this. it's just an interesting smell and that's it. and i cannot hate on it but i will whoever wears it around me with a burning passion. gave me a bit of a headache to attentively break it down. quite fatiguing chemical weapon/10
Very manly scent. Projects and performs great. You'll stand out from today's crowd of modern sweet scents.
This was signature scent in the winter for the 4 years I lived in Boston. THIS STRONG stuff! Classy, masculine, and will put hair on your chest. This is a dying breed of fragrance. The ones from the 80s that lasted all day and projected for yards. This stuff could cut through the bitter Boston cold. I had most of the girls in my graduate school class jocking me while i wore this fragrance. In fact, I pulled my wife wearing this scent. I have 2 back up bottles that i never wear but it takes me back as soon as i smell them
Even though i like vintages, and can apreciate this fragrance, i would not wear it besides a special weird event or so...It is not a day to day scent, that's for sure. What i get from It is florals mixed with strong animalic urinal notes. It is the quintesential 90's dad or grandfather scent... I could not imagine wearing this today, maybe only to draw attention on yourself, as a statment of some sort. This is a strong and piercing fragrance.
Parfumo seems to have more accurate scentography: “Top Notes: Ambrette-seed Coriander Bergamot Green-notes Lavender Heart Notes: Carnation Jasmine Cinnamon Geranium Thyme Base Notes: Civet Oakmoss Musk Patchouli Amber Vanilla Vetiver” E.g., adds Ambrette, deletes tobacco and castoreum.
