For the people that love this, they made another fragrance from the same brand called Cedre Encens it's a fresher version of this and more mass appealing
Warm and sweet. This was my signature scent as a younger man, but I've outgrown it and now it smells sort of cheap and stereotypically masculine to me, albeit in a gentlemanly (certainly not broey), sweater-wearing kind of way.
I swear it reminds a lot of to Affogato Amber by Zara, if u like that one, u would like this one too. The only deafferents to me between them is that Baux has some herb ending and Affogato Zara leans to more sweet.
Wow this is a great cologne, any fans of Cain Marko (think, "adult" ;o) ) out there? I can tell you, that's how I was introduced to this, first-hand. It's magnificent. Only down-side is that the uninformed sometimes mistake the combination of vanilla, cardamom and pink pepper for baked goods... I did not get that initially. It's masculine with incense and tobacco, supported by spices, somewhat sweet, but not at all "fruity". It's delicious in more ways than one
Still have my OG bottle. Smokey amber vanilla, gorgeous scent but I actually hate going into L'Occitane stores to sample their other choices as any I've come across are nearly always empty and full of bored staff who jump on you immediately the second you walk in to try and sell you stuff. It's also so overpriced for what they sell it's a bit ridiculous.
Very disappointed to see the L'Occitane rebrand reduce this from 75ml to 50ml and more than double the price in the process. I’m not one to moan too much about this sort of thing but this is one the biggest price hikes I’ve seen. If you can find this in the brown 75ml bottle grab it before it’s gone. I’ve not tried the new bottle yet. Let’s hope the juice is still the same!
I am not that guy who smells something at the store and buys it. I’m extremely price sensitive, cheap, thrifty, frugal, etc. I go online and try to find it for cheaper. When I smelled this in the store, I bought it immediately.
Very manly and old school. I recommend, specially for the younger crowd to try it first. It is a classic cheapy but if you are not into this DNA you will never use it.
I find it curious that reviewers are describing this fragrance as 'dry' and 'earthy'. To me it is sweet and vanillic from the off and softly spicy with cardomom lift and cinnamon warmth. The composition is light and breezy and settles into a dandified powdery scent.
I have to spend more time with this to give a legit review, but this is really, really good. I would definetely wear this on a date or something like that, night out. This probably wouldnt suit everybody but it certainly suits me. I have the later bottle style. You hear both things...some say it was reformulated worse, and others say its always been the same. For me, it does not perform super well so far, but ive only just got it. I love how natural it smells, and honestly to me its barely sweet at all. It doesnt smell "edible" like gourmand, just smells very natural. Vanilla bean or pods as opposed to ethyl maltol, know what i mean? And the incense accord is one of the best ive probably smelled. Now that ive experienced this, i can say this is one of the highest quality fragrances for the price ive ever smelled. Like real high up on that list. I do feel it leans masculine but i also wouldnt be turned off if i smelled it on a woman. Its a generally attractive scent, in that way it is unisex.
My favorite right now, very fresh but also dry, spicy vanillic and very natural, feels like it doesn’t really last on me so i have to keep spraying.
Great and wonderful But if you want the next-level version of this, I highly recommend Cartier Declaration Parfum
Dry, smoky wood with candied ginger and cool cypress; Masculinity done in a beautiful way.
This is my husband's signature scent and it lasts all day on him, especially on his beard when he puts it on after beard balm. It's honestly too strong for me at first, but the dry down is so delicious and warm. I'm really sad he'll have to switch to something else in the future though because cutting the size by a third and keeping the same price is silliness & I won't be buying him any more. Shame on you & your greed L'Occitane.
Eau Des Baux has been renamed and rereleased as Cédre Encens. I have not been able to try the new version, I went to a L'Occitane store in the US a few weeks ago, but they didn't have the new version on display yet.
Screw loccitane for reducing 100ml bottles down to 50 ml, changing to cheap plastic bottles, and somehow increasing the price. I love this scent but cant support this kind of greed. Side note they say they use the same formula in the new bottles, but I've yet to test the difference.
This is not sweet at all to me. Huge, dry, warm spice and cedar wood opening. It does warm up to a vanillic base as it dries down but to me it’s a dry, smokey, very classically masculine vanilla that reminds me of pipe smoke. I have huge nostalgia for what a pipe smoker’s house smells like as my grandpa smoked a pipe all through my childhood. This is the closest thing I’ve found that touches on that scent memory and I keep a bottle just for that reason. Very mature, very masc, but in the best kind of way. Reminds me of some of the classic Serge Lutens fragrances.
very different from what I usually wear, decided to give this a try for a day. I could tell right from bat this was too masculine for me, but my original thoughts were 'not for me but i'd enjoy smelling it on someone else' - however, the dry down made its rating go from ok to dislike. linear cinnamon. smoky and sickly sweet, vanilla-y cinnamon clinging to me like none of my exes ever did. applied 12 hours ago, washed my arm with soap halfway through and it would not leave. showering it off with a thorough scrub and misting myself with the l'Occitane verveine refreshing spray afterwards did the trick but phew. no gourmand scents for me. lesson learned. great staying power tho! would be impressive if it hadn't been so overstimulating for me!
A gentle cedar, a light incense, and a cardamom-sweetened vanilla walk into a bar, but none of them raise their voice above a polite, indoor whisper. Americans & Brits, check the bottle colour. You know the kind of dad-adjacent smell that reminds you of? There's a nod to that, but it's the classier, French version that someone femme could also easily wear. Technically, it’s a “spicy” scent, but only in the way a cardamom bun or a fruit cake (sans ginger) might be called spicy. Warm, delicate, quietly charming. It's almost two fragrances (without being too non-linear): first, you get the drier, woody, more "masculine" incense top, but then the vanilla warms on your skin and becomes more prominent as you reach the dry down. Notes: *recommend if you’re dipping a toe into incense or cedar, because it’s a good introduction to either *blends well with most fragrances to add depth (which is an excellent way to do the above toe-dipping) *if you love incense and have some, you don't need this, and the incense will fade too fast for you *I mostly use it as a layering side piece with vanillas so that I can feel more complicated and interesting in my Tihota or Body Shop Warm Cinnamon Pretzel *Not a blind buy, unless it's for someone who wears barbershop cologne and you think you could trick them into wearing this instead so that you can also borrow it. Then yes.
I'm afraid L'occitane is following the "downsizing" trend by watering down their formulas and charging more per ounce with the excuse of environmental protection. Now, Eau des Baux is called Cedre Encens, comes in a minimalistic very boring 50 ml bottle and smells way too spicy. I tried it and it's still good, but not the same. I also feel like it doesn't leave that delicious trail on clothes anymore. Shame on greed!
Sexier than Replica Jazz Club. My my. My man smells so sexy but so short lived.
Beautiful composition, delicate smoky green vanilla. But so weak and thin at the same time. But its ok
RENAMED: Eau Des Bavx -> Cedre Ences Just giving everyone a heads up - on October 1, 2025, L'Occitane globally relaunched this scent in a 50ml bottle as part of their reimagined and minimalist "Flora Orchestra" collection. The formula of the fragrance has not changed. Hope this helps!
Breaking out the autumnal fragrances with a vengeance. :) This one is warm with wood and spices and, to my nose, not noticeably masculine in spite of the 'Homme' on the box. The incense grounds it nicely and adds an appealing smokiness to the scent trail.
I remember watching countless videos on perfumes years ago that would always mention this thing so I avoided it because I like being different. I’m annoying like that I know and I own it so what? But l’occitane opened a shop near me and I walked in and found this there. It was like sighting a celebrity lol I was like oh he’s here! I went in to smell melilot which I might get as well, but I had no idea this would rock me as hard as it did. I took the test strip home with me and to work two days in a row I couldn’t keep it off my nose. Mind you I’ve been doing this perfume sampling shit for 5 years now I’ve spent a fortune on this hoppy testing and buying bottles so niche the average person would throw up! But this still managed to stand out to me and capture my heart firmly with no room to wiggle. Its sweetness is very dry and herbal like the vanilla is a raw ingredient smoothening the spice and herbs with a cooling green breezy cypress slipping underneath it. I would not consider it gourmand until mayyyyyybe the final stages of it but if I enjoy it as a gourmand hater then it’s good trust! We’ll who am I talking to I’m probably the last person on earth to smell this
Got it on Vinted in a new design bottle for 50% off retail 😏 A gorgeous perfume and absolutely perfect for autumn. It has a distinct niche character, making it well worth the price even at full retail. I mostly pick up cypress blended with vanilla and incense, creating a cozy, elegantly sweet, and smoky scent that feels truly unisex. I actually think it might smell even sexier on a woman, since it leans slightly masculine and would add an extra layer of badass. 😈
L'Occitane UK has this renamed as Cedre Encens. It retains the £65 price, but it’s now 50ml instead of 75…. What's this about?! I like the new bottle actually, but couldn’t you make it a bit bigger? Or reduce the price?! This is the 2nd time they downsized. First from 100ml to 75ml, and now 75ml to 50ml. It’s a shame to see them fall for corporate greed. Won’t be repurchasing unfortunately.
A great scent for the money. Strangely this burns off of my skin very quickly but will cling to fabric very well. I bring this with me on ski trips to spray on my jacket so that I can smell it while going down the mountain. Smells much better than sweat and holds up in cold weather shockingly well. Not a powerhouse by any means, nor very complex- I get a dry vanilla from it. All said, still a nice scent that seems to be widely available for cheap.
I tested it in the shop years ago and still I remember it. It made a big impression on me. It is so fine and special! One of the best masculine designs.
Supremely underrated. Smells like a cinnamon bakery up in the Alps with many dry Alpine Fir trees around.
