Bergamask is not the typical fresh and bright Citrus Aromatic fragrance. Its tart Bergamot and Lemon notes share protagonism with Lavender from the start, and these Citrus accords evaportate within 10 to 15 minutes after application, giving way to the other main notes: a ripe, deep, indolic and slightly honeyed Orange Blossom, lots of Musk and a slightly floral Sandalwood (via Javanol). It performs very well and can be worn all year round. This fragrance will not be everyone's cup of tea, so don't blind buy it.
One of if not the best citrus fragrances I've had the pleasure of trying. The opening is reminiscent of lemon cleaning products but it goes away after a few minutes. Owning a bottle is at the top of my list.
Smells exactly like me having my nose buried into my grandfathers sweaty armpits after he has been toiling the fields all day. Thank god I only got a 5ml decant. I cannot believe this is 4/5 rating haha makes me realise how dumb fragrantica rating system can be.
What can I say about this fragrance that’s not been said already? Its like marmite, either you love it or hate it as Hackerjack mentioned below. I am more on the hate side and that’s because I’m not a fan of animatic musks or anything animalic for that matter. Everyone states it is a bergamot dominant fragrance, but I’m getting mostly this sweaty animalic musk that overpowers anything else. And boy does it last and project! The citrusy facet is very much in the background for me. Bergamask really does test your patience, as I found the dry down to be a bit more pleasant as it does not hit your nostrils as if they owe you money after 3 hours or so. My girlfriend says it is pleasant and smells like freshly tumble dried sheets. So even if it may not smell nice to me, it leaves a better impression on those in my very broad vicinity. Definitely get a sample prior to buying as it is polarising. One ml of this may actually last you a very long time. Enjoy sparingly!
Strong but smell herbal
this is the definition of a either 1/10 or 10/10 fragrance. It’s one of those scents you either love or hate. It’s a bergamot bomb with citrus notes and a warm base. People who say it smells like piss are missing the point, though; it’s just such a potent, warm citrus bomb that—yeah—can smell a bit "rancid," though not really. But the real problem, if you ask me, is just how massive a "nuclear bomb" of a fragrance it is. It fills an entire room so intensely and so quickly that it’s simply impossible to wear to any actual occasion. So yes, if you love smelling strongly of citrus or bergamot—I mean, really love it—then go in and give it a sniff. (i was able to sniff it in Copenhagen btw)
This is the most beautiful bergamot I have smelled. It is incredibly strong yet refined, very good for warm weather, with amazing development of notes despite very hot weather. In cold interiors this remains a very nice warm citrus.
What a shame so many respondents to this amazing site's forums have little or no ability to review its content without resorting to foul mouthed comments that deserve to be removed. Fragrantica when are you going to start filtering out this stuff?
I gag when i smell this fragrance. It smells like piss with a little bit of citrus in the background. It smells like a lemonade mainly made out of piss. Smells like a cat pissing on you while eating a lemon i absolutely hate this and its atomic too
Someone said that this smells like you are wearing atomic bergamot fragrance, but also pissed your pants 😭 I see the vision, but to me it’s more like a bitter kind of citruses, bergamot with animalic scent, which feels off in some way It’s not typical or perfectly refined freshie nor for every nose
Smells like those subway stations oversaturated with an intoxicating aroma of piss and crackheads. Horrible, don’t buy. 2 words : piss horrible
I recently smelt this at a fragrance store and, at first, I didn’t think too much of it. After testing plenty of other colognes, I ended up choosing this one and it wasn’t until later that I realised the real magic of it. It has a very likeable citrus scent that lasts forever and projects insanely well. I can’t wait to wear this during summer. I sprayed five sprays on my jumper last weekend, picked up the same jumper again today, and it still smelt like I had just sprayed it. This stuff is eternal. The performance is incredible, and I find that extremely important in a fragrance. So far, I rate it 8.5/10.
Lovely Bitter Lemon and Sandalwood. That's it, and it fills the room with its scent in initial hours and doesn't goes away from clothes you can smell it for days.
This one is hard to review. When I first got the sample I popped a little on my hand. It smelled sweet and fresh and I kinda liked it. However, The sample vial sitting in my cabinet started overpowering everything. It was too much! The musk is just a bit too nostril burning. I put it in my husbands cabinet for him to try and he wore it to work. Came home 12 hours later and it was still so strong I could smell it from a meter away. It’s now been several days since he wore it, whilst doing the folding of laundry, I was again sucker punched in the face with this fragrance. So my review is, it’s more masculine, with a touch of BO and nostril burn. The longevity is insane! Lasting through a full wash and dry cycle. I’m sure if musky scents are your thing, it’s well worth it. For me, it’s way too beastly!
One of the fragrances I hate most. Very animalic and it nauseates me. Truely awful imo
It is Tygar, I don’t care what people say. It is good , half the price. Summer freshie at its finest.
it smells a bit like BO with some stale citrus to me . Good thing I only picked up a 2ml sample 😅
Once you overcomplicate things it is literally expected to bring chaotic outcome! The whole harmony of the corresponding fragrance does not combine smoothly and the symphony of the aromatic elements are inappropriate, hence the reflected name misleads the aroma in the end
This fragrance from the moment I sprayed it on just my hand filled the room. It was nauseating. It smells like you got on a bus with 30 really old women and they all had the same perfume on. I washed my hand 2 times and it was still there. I went out to the garage and poured gasoline on my hand and washed it again to get it off. I literally gave it to my neighbor who is in her 70's She brought it back the next day. I threw it in the trash. I hope to never smell that again ... EVER.
I think this is too strong and not suitable for summer at all. Two small sprays give you a headache. I didn't like it at all. That was my first purchase from this house and actually my last one. It's just like very bitter lemon. So disappointed!
Bergamask bares a close kinship with Orto Parisi’s Risvelium. A cluster-bomb of blatant citruses (bergamot & lemon) set upon a cedar / musky base. It’s not as potent as its aforementioned cousin and despite the opening firework display does not last for one note longer than the song . It’s a sweet melody and I like it nonetheless……
Right... I've got this new one on – Bergamask by Orto Parisi. Bergamot mask. Sounds like a superhero who smells nice. It opens with bergamot and lemon – proper zesty, bright. Like you've just cut into a fresh citrus in the kitchen. Then lavender, orange blossom, lily of the valley in the middle. Floral but not... flowery. Clean. A bit powdery. Dries down to musk, cedar, tonka. That musky base is... interesting. A bit animalic. Sweaty in a good way. Like you've been working hard but still smell sophisticated. Not like after a night in Wetherspoons. The performance? Strong. Projects well. Finchy came over, did that little sniff, muttered something about 'new aftershave' and walked off. The Swindon lot were in for a meeting – they all noticed. One of them even asked what it was. I said, 'It's called class, mate.' It's niche. Not for everyone. But I like it. Smells... artistic. Like I've got depth. I'd say... eight out of ten. Maybe eight and a half. Anyway. Thought I'd share.
Update: After owning this for nearly a year now, I can say its a great perfume, wonderfully crafted. Its a citrus + lavender opening with a HUGE dose of musk that is slightly animalic; the fresh notes from the opening keep resurfacing through the first 4-5 hours of wear. The problem I have with this is that it's too damn strong, even with 1-2 sprays its just overwhelming and my clothes reek of it even after washing. Its just too strong for me and almost nauseating in hot weather, I tend to wear it more in the transitional seasons and maybe cooler summer nights. I can swear that people are either overspraying it, or are just naturally nose blind to claim that "it doesn't last after the reformulation!!". Is it one-dimensional? - Yes, somewhat; notes have depth, but its a simplistic musky fragrance. Is it long-lasting and projecting? - YES. People's reaction? - I've gotten lots of positive feedback on it, people don't seem to register it as offensive or "sweaty". Is it unisex? - I would say so. It leans masculine, but it can definitely be pulled off by women. Suitable weather? - The whole year (without hot summer days); the musk is smooth, slightly animalic and somewhat warm - starts animalic but it becomes cleaner throughout the wear. Is it worth it? - If you like musk and simplistic fragrances with strong performance - you'd love this! Batch: 01245
The notes looked good... until I tried it. Literally embarrassed myself by gagging in front of people.
This is absolutely lovely, a masterpiece for me. The way the notes create a harmony is just out of this world. Right now, it's around 35 celsius where I live and something just happens to Bergamask in this high heat, making it even more beautiful, so summer is the best time to wear this fragrance. Will keep repurchasing forever. Top 5 Alessandro for me definitely, even though it's super tough to make such a list.
When I first tried Bergamask last year, I found its opening to be sharp, but it quickly fades into something more delightful. It's bright and zesty, which I don't tend to gravitate toward, but here the other notes ground it. Wearing it feels like a whole journey. It's woodier to me than it seems to be based on the listed accords. At first, I thought it might be too clean or citrusy, and that maybe I'd like it more on someone else than on myself. And perhaps this is true, but I realized I like the projection, the little scent cloud created around me, more than when I sniff it close to my skin. In time, it became addicting. And I loved how it faded throughout wear. As it begins to fade away, I pick up mossy notes. My only concern is that it feels javanol-heavy, and though I love javanol, a little goes a LONG way. Javanol-forward scents make me cautious for this reason. But Bergamask is pretty good, and they expertly blend notes I haven't seen together before. It feels like a cousin of Stora Skuggan's Moonmilk (in their shared contrast between citrus and woods).
It's quite a simple fragrance to my nose. Lots of bergamot, lots of musk and a woody note (cedar ?) that will eventually show up clearly much later. Some people put Bergamask in the freshie category but despite the strong bergamot and a slight sweetness that will linger during the first few hours, this fragrance smells quite dry with a sour/acidic touch. Nothing juicy about the citrus here. The irony is that I tend to (dumb) reach for Bergamask more during hot spring and summer days before I even consider the many great freshies in my collection. For me Bergamask just fits warm weather effortlessly. And it lasts a looong time on skin with no real need to re-apply ever unless you're missing the slight sweetness of the opening or think everyone around you still hasn't noticed your presence yet. All in all I can't really pinpoint what is it I find so pleasant and addictive in this fragrance. It smells pretty basic after all. It smells pretty unique too. Good job Mr. Gualtieri.
lovely light citrus, barely smell it on my skin. my sample is straight from the orto parisi website so i know i havent got a fake, this cant be the same bergamask everyones freaking out over
In my first "review" last year I was asking questions about the notorious 01245 batch.. This year I want to give an answer. When I bought it last June I was naive to believe it was not as potent as expected... In August I was choking people around me .. During winter, I let it rest. Today, I put three sprays on me and imposed myself to the world.. This thing is devastating in hot weather!! It is relentless.. It can make you feel exhausted in an olfactive sense. I can feel it attacking me hours later, despite of having a shower.. So, there is nothing to worry about this batch, in my humble opinion. The negativity about this batch is based probably on nose fatigue, skin chemistry or first impressions on a new bottle. Always test first and choose carefully and from trusted sellers.
Sweaty, lusty, and intimate, just like the 16th-century Bergamasca dance that originated in Bergamo in northern Italy, inspiring the creation of Bergamask to capture the essence of this courtship dance between men and women. Freshly cut bergamot & lemmon opening. It's the smell you get from the fizz particles when you cut into a citrus fruit. Three minutes in, it starts to become a bit bittersweet with the same freshness. It’s fresh, intense & full of character The heart is creamy, sweet & slightly bitter accentuated with white florals rising with orange blossom, lily of the valley & jasmine, I’m also getting some lavender & a honey floral citrusy note. I can sense a sweaty, musky & pissy undertone in the background. The base is creamy, musky, powdery & sweaty with pissy & woody notes as well as musk, cedar-wood & sandalwood. I’m also getting hints of sweet tonka & oud, adding much of a depth to this formula One of the best head-turners of all time & still my No. 1 compliment-getter by far. A work of art by the master perfumer Alisandro Gualtieri Performance is nuclear with excellent sillage. Bergamask will stay on you, even after you shower.
