Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren takes Grape Ape straight back to his high school days, it's a nostalgia trip in a bright blue bottle. The opening hits with a sharp, throwback blast of icy mint, tangy lemon, and crisp sea lavender. It’s light, super aquatic, and energetic..... it smells like a night out in 1997. As it dries down, the sharp citrus gives way to a heart of seagrass and ginger before settling into a soft base of sandalwood, oakmoss, and subtle musk. It brought plenty of swagger back in the day, but the harsh, soapy aquatic profile feels a bit dated and nineties-bound compared to what’s out on the shelves now. Performance & Verdict: Longevity: 4 to 5 hours of moderate, airy projection before fading out. Vibe: High school throwback—minty, soapy, aquatic, and deeply retro. Rating: 3 bananas.

This does in fact remind me of Eternity for men by Calvin Klein but a more spicier version if that makes sense.. also a bit like Polo's Safari EDT fragrance, and Navy for men by Dana, basically Eternity but not nearly as sweet. It's a good fresh scent and good bang for your buck. I bought a travel spray for just under $9 (0.27oz) I don't know if I would get this again in the future just because I probably won't wear this too often since there are other classics that I enjoy more (like Obsession for men) but it's worth at least trying out for $9!! A travel spray should last you a while if you have a decent collection of other fragrances, I've had this for over 6 months now and still pretty much have about 85% left.

This one is pure nostalgia for me. While it doesn't smell exactly the same to me, not sure if that's the time in between the years or the reformulations but I would still say it's close enough. Timeless smell that doesn't smell too dated. For the freshie or blue lovers. Performance leaves a lot to be desired.

This fragrance reminds me of so many fond memories of my adolescent days. I was very loyal to this perfume and this was the very first full bottle perfume gifted to me by my uncle. It smells very synthetic but so distinct and I remember getting so many compliments from classmates back in the days. Rating: 9.07 / 10

Before niche fragrances… there was this blue bottle My very first perfume, and for years, my signature scent. Polo Sport was the smell of the late 90s and early 2000s: fresh out of the shower, sporty clothes, school in the hot Rio de Janeiro, summer vacations, PS1 afternoons and that feeling that life was somehow simpler. The mint, citrus and aquatic accord still hit instantly with pure nostalgia. Even today, it remains one of the most iconic sporty freshies ever made. Timeless in its own very specific way.

This smells like as if Irish Spring had an "ICE" flanker in the late 90s. And I swear it's got a mentholated opening too and I'm all for it. I think this is gonna get a lot of attention as it smells like you left the shower with lots of soap residue.

Minty, aquatic fresh floral and very masculine. Totally 90s and kind of a sporty preppy vibe. Nostalgic and can be worn by anyone, any age. Has a slighly fruity watermelony aspect to it which I suppose is Calone. The Rose and florals are also subdued but present and fresh. Heavy oakmoss base which makes this greenish and cozy, and super masculine. My bottle still smells like it should after cycling the sprayer a few times. I have had it for a good while and its about 70 percent full. Has a lot of similarities with Cool Water but this is more aquatic and sweeter. I have a vintage Cosmair bottle circa 2003 which still has natural oakmoss so this is likely stronger than newer bottles, but I am not familiar with the newer stuff. Great polished 90s aquatic but this is one I could say it could be perceived as somewhat outdated by some.

This one's another nostalgic scent for me. My dad had this, but I never had the chance to smell it as a kid. It's great for summer, makes you feel fresh and its perfect for the gym.

I got it today, obviously can't speak for the old version but what you can buy today smells like mint toothpaste and not in a good way. Really dated and unpleasant. Only bought as a cheap gym scent but it's not even worth that. Avoid!!!

A sophisticated fresh scent that makes you smell like your shit is together

Polo Sport is a timeless sport fragrance. It is a burst of fresh herbs, flowers, mint, aquatic notes, wood and spices. It reminds me a lot of Lacoste Eau de Lacoste (White) but better. Really excellent value, longevity is a full day. Anyone can wear this. Masculine. Overall rating 7.5/10 - you can't go wrong with this for casual wearing or up to business casual office settings. Great all seasons, day or night.

If you like Cool Water then this is definitely in the same family and you will more than likely like this also! Very fresh and clean and aquatic. When I smell this I imagine a high school preppy guy in the ‘90’s wearing this while wearing a button down shirt, his blonde hair whipping out from under his baseball cap, short-ish shorts and white Kswiss kicks with Nike socks up the calf. A guy who plays sports. I’m a bit unhappy about the bottle design change recently and I got the new bottle when I wanted to original but it’s okay. Scent is still great.

@seanhh1986 Vintage Polo Sport has a high rate of being turned (Luckily the 2 vintages I own are fine). I would not recommend anyone to chase them to save the potential disappointment.

Ive had a new bottle (2015+), i currently own both a cosmair bottle from near release in 1994 and even a small bottle of "prototype" polo sport from before the fragrance officially released. The old one is way better. Youre welcome. What i suspect is that the "seagrass" accord was neutered. I dont think theres alot if any actual oakmoss in the vintage, but it sure comes off more mossy as a vibe. Im sure its evernyl and the like but it just makes a big difference for me compared to the 2015+ bottle i had. Someone described the newer ones as "crisp"...while crisp isnt bad persay, the old one wasnt crisp, it was thicker and as mentioned mossy. Still worked for the gym and all that, just a little elevated by that aspect

I had a bottle back in the early 2000's. Thats the scent i was after, however im unsure if my nose has changed or the reformulations are all with basic ingredients. I can say the same for polo blue, but theres something VERY similar between the two now, and that was never the case before.

I like Polo Sport and it smells clean and fresh with a reasonable performance. But it does smell synthetic, not natural at all. In the same family as Cool Water and Wings

Got this at Ross for around $20, and something in the notes makes my brain tick. It smells like a very crisp bodywash, blue and well put together. The lavender goes very well with the neroli in the beginning, and the mandarin orange seems to be very juicy and cut through the scent; punching you in the nose in the best way possible. It doesn’t seem to stay around very long, and the atomizer sucks, but just spray a lot and be happy.

Everyone is trashing polo sport in it's current form. Only cosmair is good blah blah. Well i picked up a bottle made earlier this year. And at first its weak. It needs to macerste. Two weeks later and its much deeper and lasted on my arm till the next day. You need to let new fragrances breathe and settle. Did i mention it smells fantastic??

An antiquated scent, but one that remains fresh and engaging. Something I find particularly interesting is how the scent changes so much as you become more active, typically when I wear this perfume it’s to go to work. Today I decided to wear it before going to the gym, and it went from a simple clean almost grass smelling fragrance to one that is very rich with notes of musk and sandalwood. A great fragrance for staying active on a warm sunny day.

I love the top notes. The mint, aldehydes, and citrus create a classic, clean smell. However, I'm very sensitive to musks, and the musky base ruins it for me. It makes it smell sweaty. If you layer this with Iso E Super, it cuts down on the nasty muskiness and modernizes the scent beautifully by adding woodiness. Night and day difference.

Polo Sport smells fresh, clean, and full of energy. It mixes citrus, mint, and a bit of musk to create that classic 90s sporty vibe.

I wasn't impressed with the bottle I received in August, as my prior reviews shows. Having sprayed it several times and leaving it undisturbed, it now smells considerably better than it did. I know some don't believe that can happen with pre-macerated fragrances but I am among those who say that sometimes it makes a difference. I still smell too close of a similarity between this, Wings, Navy, and others...so now I will be forced to decide which are redundant...but it is pretty good.

Yes it’s nostalgic. It’s also timeless. It belongs to just a handful of frags in my collection that I make sure I never run out of

Nose Note #652 Mint and seaweed - perfect description of this. It's not beautiful or elegant - just what "sporty" is not supposed to be, I guess. It's kind of "in your face", not calm, smooth or soft, but not harsh or chemical. It's kind of acidic. Doesn't smell very natural, but it's not synthetic either. It only distantly reminds me of Cool Water and Eternity, so distantly that I wouldn't have mentioned it if it were not for the upvotes on Fragrantica. Feels like the 90s. Smells very slightly outdated. Average performer. Not bad, but not very interesting. There are many better choices. 6.8/10, I hoped it was going to bear stronger resemblance to Eternity

Hello fragrance fam, on today's reformulation guide were covering Polo Sport for Men by Ralph Lauren EDT. Sport, is an aromatic scent with aquatic touches. It's similar to scents like Cool Water by Davidoff. Sport has received many reformulations throughout the years. But In terms of the best versions of Sport, we can summarize it into two categories. 1. Pre-2006: The batches produced by Cosmair are the most well regarded. They should have a higher concentration of notes like oakmoss and aquatic notes in the formula. The atomisers on these bottles will be chrome and on the batch/box it will have "natural spray" typed. 2. Post-2006 (May also have Luxury Product batches that overlap with cosmair versions 2000-2006): These batches will all be manufactured by Luxury Products. Every bottle will now have blue atomisers instead of chrome. On the box/bottle it will say "Spray vaporizer" instead of natural spray. *I know there were mass fragrance reformulations around 2008, 2016 and 2022, so I would consider the older the versions, closer to the original scent profile. Modern batch codes can be checked via a batch website online. Often with shorter codes meaning older bottles, 6 digits or less.
