4711 Original Eau de Cologne

On my skin the nerilo here lasts longer than Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. The latter is just wonderful, but unfortunately just for a couple of minutes. Considering the huge gap in price between the two, I’ll keep layering with this one.

I am an antique collector and was intrigued with the fact this fragrance was first produced in the 1700's. I want to smell like the 1700's, I thought. While it does definitely transport me back in time and all the imagery that goes with 1700's dress and culture, I prefer to leave it there. Me and 4711 aren't vibing. It smells like a fresh and spicy mausoleum type scent; perhaps something you'd splash on a cadaver back in the day to freshen it up for the funeral viewing.

Pungent, medicinal, strong...reminds me of a bitter to some extent...Oranges, grapefruit, some caramel, lavander, lime, lemon, pomelo, bay leaf, pepper. Interestingly the more I smell it, the more I like it.

Very intimate, but timeless nonetheless. Citrus and lavender is a hard combo to mess up. Love wearing this to church I've gotten plenty of compliments. 6/10

A classic for a reason. Lovely citrus , leaf, and blossom with a touch of rosemary and lavender. Lasts about 2 hrs on my skin. Perfect for the gym. This is for me the quintessence of a Mediterranean cologne.

Just having the bottle makes me feel more accomplished in life, hah! It's a very old-vibe but fresh smell in the most positive way possible; once you smell it, you'll know what I'm talking about. I get mostly the citrus freshness and the neroli once it sets, not rosemary or lavender whatsoever, and the drydown eliminates the old-vibe sharpness pretty quickly. I like to use it when I'm running errands or need to smell more manly than men around me. Howeverrrrrrr... the longevity is 0. You'll either need to overspray and hope your skin absorbs some of the notes or just do it the old way: put it on a handkerchief and wipe off your sweat with said handkerchief so the alcohol singes the perfume onto your skin. All in all, just having a small bottle in your collection should be a must; it's such a classic.

I love the scent! The lemon, orange and bergamot are fresh and the petitgrain gives it a "green" feeling. Not sure I get much rosemary, but I love the light lavender notes. My sons think it smells like sunscreen, and once they pointed it out, I definitely pick up something sun-screeny (maybe the neroli???), but I don't find it off-putting. It just adds to the summer vibe. 😊 I don't really appreciate any evolution in the scent, but I think that's because it only lasts a hot minute. 20 minutes and it's gone! No real time to get to the dry down. This is a perfect "cooling off" fragrance for summer, but I really wish it stuck around longer.

I love this. Its unisex but it smells rather sweet to me that I'd say it leans more feminine. After the initial burst of lemon on lemon it becomes sweet and smooth reminding me of lemon hardboiled lolly's. My daughter said it smelt like fruit loops which I thought was weird but I've seen someone else comment the same thing so she must be on to something there! As it dries down (and before if disappears unfortunately) it does become a little more herbal/spicy and I can smell the faint whiff of lavender. I wish it lasted longer, if I douse myself I get about 3 hours before I can't smell it at all. I'll always have a bottle of this in my collection.

Weirdly smells like fruit loops, but in a good fresh way

Gin tonic fragrance. Masculine, but sort of in a feminine way. Black tea with bergamot and a touch of jasmine. Similar to Chanel’s Sycomore, but sweeter, like if they added honey made out of scotch hazel. Lavender soap… A slice of pomelo. Dirol lemon drops from early 2000s. All of it you can smell close to skin of course, no sillage at all

4711 isn’t just a cheap cologne to me, it’s where my relationship with fragrance first began. I was a boy growing up in a small town in the '70s. Every month, I’d follow my routine trip with my late dad to the local Indian barbershop. It was a simple place, warm, familiar, always filled with the hum of clippers and the scent of talc and aftershave. The barbers were endlessly kind and they treated every haircut like a small ritual with plenty of passion and care. At the end of each visit, came the part I loved most: a brisk neck massage, a steaming hot towel pressed gently over my face and then, just before I stepped out, a generous splash of 4711. It was bright, citrusy, almost fleeting… "gone in 60 seconds". But in that brief moment, I felt fresh, awake and somehow grown-up. More than 50 years later, that memory still lingers. Recently, life brought the story full circle. On a river cruise through Europe, I found myself standing in Cologne, inside the historic 4711 store. Not far away was Farina, the oldest perfumery house, two pillars of fragrance history within walking distance. I even won a small bottle of 4711 during an cruise’s treasure hunt while we were there. It felt like fate had quietly tied past and present together. Of course, nothing has really changed about 4711. It still disappears almost as quickly as it arrives. But owning the giant 800ml bottle, picked up for just AUD50, I can splash it on liberally without a second thought. You can line up hundreds of niche fragrances, each more complex and long-lasting than the last. But for me, 4711 will always hold its place. It’s not about performance or prestige, it’s about memory, ritual and that instant burst of freshness that takes me straight back to a small barbershop in the hometown I grew up. Splash. Smile. Feel alive. That's 4711.

I Absolutely love the citrus on this and is pretty affordable but the performance is atrocious and even with heavy over spraying your probably gonna get 2 hours max, I really wish it lasted longer cause its a very nice scent

timeless citrusy-lavender fragrance that costs almost nothing. i am always wearing the small 20 ml as a mood booster, or, if i can get them, those individually packed perfumes tissues.

Very very classy. There's a bit of an allure to it and doesn't have that elderly taste to it IMO.

From hating it as a child to loving it as an adult, this is a truly timeless classic that deserves a place in every perfume lover's collection. It smells like a classy grandparent (grandma or grandpa alike) and evokes memories you might not even have. This scent calls for no forced stories or AI-written descriptions. It's simply a concoction of beautifully blended fruits and herbs that people have appreciated for centuries. How often do I wear it? Almost never. But it sits on my perfume shelf, and every now and then I pick it up just to give it a sniff.

Orange blossom/ neroli-citrus bomb. Which I already possess (Kolonia 1800). Very weak sillage and longitivity which is expected from most of this genre of scent profiles.

Technically I still have this fragrance but as soon as you spray it, the scent is gone. Light and citrusy. I appreciate the history but fragrances have come a long way since. Fresh and fleeting. I banished it to the car now as a “just in case” spray.

TLDR: It smells great. Sharp clean citrus blast. Haters will say it smells like industrial citrus cleaner and they would not be entirely wrong. Reading this entire review will last longer than this scent. Just a little 80s kid being dragged away by my parents to visit some relative so the adults can yap yap yap all day long. Go to the bathroom and flick on the light. Look to the counter and spot this large, strange, and old time looking bottle. The heck is this thing? I look at the very stylized label, my mind believing it to be some sort of ancient writings of antiquity. "ECHT KOLNISCH WASSER"...... what is this witchcraft! It also says "cologne". I know what that is. Like Indiana Jones before Disney, I reach out carefully and skilfully to grab hold of this mystical artifact of old. I go to pull the cap off this seemingly magical brew to give it a whiff but the cap is affixed and won't pop off. How do you spray this?....... More witchcraft. Give it a turn instead... this must be like that green bottle of Brut that has been kicking around my own home forever now. I bring it to my nose and give it a whiff..... Even more witchcraft but it's too late! The spell was placed on me and I have been a sucker for that sharp and clean neroli citrus blast that 4711 delivers. Love at first sniff and forever afterwards. I love 4711 but can't recommend it as something to wear due to the VERY poor longevity. Anton Korchev's review below says it all when concerning why you would want this. If you want an inexpensive 4711 clone to actually wear then look to Alhambra Blue Pacific, Alhambra Neroli Portofino, Al Wataniah Lazuli, Al Haramain Neroli Canvas. 4711 has been around for nearly a quarter of a millennia, there's no shortage of dupes and inspirations. Tom Ford... they make one, it smells great, can't recommend it, countless do better for a cost that is 90% less.

Got this today, and I don't think it belongs here. It is a Cologne. Not just that, it is THE Cologne. So, you get all the features from it: an intense initial neroli-citrus-herbal kick with explosive projection, and then it's gone in a short time. I wouldn't consider most Eaux De Cologne as actual fragrances, instead I consider them "hygiene articles". You can use them as aftershaves, to freshen up linen and clothes, on a wipe for cleaning objects and yourself (colognette), and as a disinfectant. Or just wear it as a mood booster. It's very cheap, very fresh, available basically everywhere at this point in sizes ranging from "enough to slightly moisten a wipe" to "industrial barrel". I got the 800ml just so it lasts me for a long time. Will rebuy it when it runs out.

This scent actually works great at repelling rodents which is about the only use I ever got from it

Bought a decant recently for nostalgic purposes. These current formulations, however, don't contain the true essence of the original (yes, I'm joking :D ).

This is exactly what Orange Blossoms (the tiny white flowers from the orange tree) smell like . It takes a LOT of those tiny white flowers to make an extract oil ! It is one of the most euphoric smells on the earth. It's a VERY light fleeting note. TOM FORD has done a good job of "processing" it for the fragrance Neroli Portofino. IN many cases -- it's backed up with Orange oil . I LOVE finding old bottles of 4011 at the flea market for cheap! I'd never pay full price. IF you wanna really go trippin' on a scent : buy a bottle of the 100% neroli oil from a health food store. Nose Orgasm.

I had a large bottle of this many years ago, ended up tipping it down the sink just to get rid of it. Literally lasts 10mins if you’re lucky!

Aromatic citrus but also smells a bit like insect repellent to me. It's just very fresh with zero sweetness or deeper notes.
