L'Agent

Located a full bottle of Agent Provocateur "L'Agent" at a pretty good price. Purchased this fragrance because a few reviews cited it as a great alternative, or option for the very expensive, very unique Amouage "Memoir Woman." So, now I've owned/sampled/worn both fragrances, L'Agent and Memoir Woman. L'Agent isn't even close to Memoir Woman. IMHO, there are zero similarities between the two perfumes. L'Agent opens strong & powerful with pungent, spicy, aldehydic notes, some incense, a bit of patchouli, mixed florals, etc. The angelica and artemisia add a sharp, nearly green spiciness to the fragrance. L'Agent starts out promising. But within minutes, L'Agent calms down to a barely detectable, slightly floral, sour, powdery, musk-y skin scent. Yes, there is a tinge of an ammonia, or urinous something wallowing around in the dry down. Fortunately, all of this is short-lived on my skin. My husband who was "testing" the fragrance alongside me said, "Hmmmm...too bad...it lost its punch." Exactly.

This is such a beautiful, resinous ambery perfume. It feels dark, sultry, mysterious. My bottle says it made in Italy and is much better blended than OG which I owned ( U.S. made). They are not same scent profile, but I do find they share that characteristic musk ( moth balls associated). L agent I find superior in every aspect although it's not so beastly as original. There is sharpnes which comes from from incense, myrhh , patchouli, leather but they are harmoniously blended with little bit animalic musc. Aesthetics in this beauty are quite different then in modern perfumes but that's what makes it so special. I feel it was never made to be mainstream. I'd say it's unisex, perhaps even leaning a bit masculine. In the line up of ambery niche perfumes this underrated gem would hold it's own. Really shame it's discontinued.

This has gotten so good (or I am getting old and my taste is changing). I have had it for years, very long time, easily 10 years. I was even comprehending selling as clearly not wearing often but decided to apply just to refresh my memory. This is so unique yet familiar, this reminds me of something from my childhood, likely some perfume my mom had. So complex and potent, somewhat vintage, so different to current mainstream fragrances. It’s officially winter and this suits this time of the year. I love the warmth and sweetness, that radiates of me (not gourmand type!) I am glad i checked, not selling it now and will wear more often in winter.

Some years have passed when I bought this perfume, then I did like it. Now I can say that I love it! It is unique in it's own way. This is a really strict perfume. I can imagine a BDSM girl wearing this. Although that's not my cup of tee, still I love it. Makes me feel confident, powerful and mysterious. Such a shame it's discontinued.. like why?! Bring it back, I don't mind to restock.

Bold, dark, sexy, smoky, earthy, mysterious, witchy. This to my nose if you take Encre Noire A L'Extreme Lalique and add a leather accord. There's just a tiny touch of sweetness. Just gorgeous. Ultimate femme fatal vibes here. Beast mode on my skin. This is easily a unisex type of scent. Love.

Adult, feminine, mysterious fragrance. It's very strong - two sprays are a little bit too much already. It's not a conventional nice-smelling perfume, it's having a lot of character. Like it's for a person who knows what she wants and doesn't care what others think. It's not something that uplifts the mood like many floral fragrances, but it smells of confidence, it's sexy and belongs to the night.

Smells like someone is getting a spanking tonight.

I bought this in the summer because I really wanted to sample it and I found a good deal. I wasn't totally sold on it, but the notes were so interesting I wanted to hold on for a bit. It's cold now and I found I started craving it during autumn in New England. It's not a trendy scent profile. It's not as sweet, it has a pleasant classy, slightly earthy/witchy vintage feel to it so I prefer it for daytime autumn/winter wear. I personally don't find it explicitly sexy or dirty, but the notes are very unique. It's unlike anything else I have in my collection and really suits certain situations. It's good for 24+ age range I'd say. It doesn't feel light and youthful, but it's truly lovely. *update for 2/2025: Ok....I stand corrected on not finding this sexy. I've been wearing this pretty regularly this winter and I will say there's an evolution throughout the life of this fragrance that leads to a sweeter, softer, more alluring dry-down. It's still unique in the dry-down as well. I think this makes the scent more mass appealing and it could likely attract those around you, whereas before I saw it as a purely bold and daring scent you wear for yourself. Now that I'm more familiar with the life of this fragrance, it's expanded from daytime wear to something I would wear clubbing, at concerts, in edgier settings/outfits and on date night. It's kept the vintage/earthy/witchy feel but now it's got an added seduction and it feels very alt-girl but also womanly. Very cool!

One of the worst openings ever. I blame the artemisia, but I cannot be sure. Give it 10 minutes, the stink goes away and you are left with a luscious, dark amber entangled with warm myrrh. A scent like an embrace for the aloof and lonesome, walking the cold and empty streets on a foggy winter morning... :)

Could someone please tell me what is that pungent, strange note that i smell? I blind bought this because I have a myrrh, amber and incense body cream which I absolutely love and I was looking for something similar. But there's something in AP that smells really weird to me. It's stronger at the begining and it slightly fades afterwards.

You should trace back this particular edition! It is exquisite 🌹 actually I do have an extra bottle in its box for anyone really interested! It is beautiful ❤️.L'agent, the first edition was one of the most surprising mainstream perfume releases, in my humble opinion! It is well crafted and I would say it is more refined than the 2009 eau de toilette opium by Yves Saint Laurent. It is a more modern crisp floral edition of vintage obsession by Calvin Klein. I like it! An interesting scent for women that love deep sensual perfumes with a light smoky/ambery edge to them... It could be a scent that men could wear too, maybe! I love the bottle!

This is such a trip! From the inside of an orthodox church during the evening service to having a sexy, very not orthodox date in the backseat of a black limousine on a rainy night🙃. Very intriguing frag, very non-linear, the dry down is beautiful, a particular blend of incense and myrrh that floats around dark, silent flowers. Really glad to have it in my collection.

AP This is honestly a perfect perfume. SUCH a crying shame that it was ever discontinued. Thrilled to have it back in my collection but I think I need a bigger back up! This is even BETTER than I remember it! Perhaps it’s the summer night cool heat (I always wore this in the winter) now or perhaps it’s just my skin chemistry or perhaps it’s even a feat of aging; maceration, but whatever it is-this stuff is richer and more complex than ever. Warmer than ever too, and this is a good thing with this perfume. It was always beautiful, but- It absolutely SINGS now! It is similar in style to Amouage Memoir woman, but it is MUCH better imo. More refined, more harmonious, and ironically, more expensive smelling. The bottle is also absolutely stunning. L’Agent, I am SO THRILLED that you are mine again! Now it’s time to secure back ups! Good lord this stuff is intoxicating! I highly recommend trying it on a cool summer night if you haven’t yet, I swear it’s at its best!

First whiff felt very much like obsession, strong and spicy, with some vintage unertones. But as it develops, it becomes like one of the more resinous niche amouages, as compared to. Incense, quality myrrh, some civet, dirty patch, sandalwood...it really is a masterpiece, and i think you really have to be a perfumista to appreciate this one because it can wear you otherwise. To the non perfume obsessed nose this may come across as overwhelming, spicy, vintage, but, to the noses in the game long enough this will definitely impress. Deep resin, complex woods and that twist of emotion from the florals....gorgeous. On my skin it's not super long lasting sadly, but might perform well on clothes. I think the fact that the price shot up here speaks for itself.

A dark, warm spicey beauty. On my skin unfortunately the projection is soft and weak. That's a pity because i love the scent but for me too weak. I like my perfumes loud, heavy with a huge projection and longtivity. So love the smell but will not look for another bottle again.

L'agent 🌹💜I tried it when it was first released. I tried the body lotion first and I did not like it. Too 🔥 spicy I said.. haha... Then I came across the perfume and I was intrigued by its sweetness mingled masterfully with spiciness. The colors on the bottle capture exactly the scent with all its interesting layers well blended together by the perfumer christian provenzano. Excellent 👍

The opening smells like a bouquet of dated flowers - it is very loud, sharp, obnoxious, a bit bitter. I get the Amouage and Opium comparisson - the resinous base and complexity reminds me of an Amouage perfume while the spices are similar to those in Opium. The drydown is a more feminine version of Opium, a bit sweeter, the myrhh really makes this more enjoyable.

I really love this one! It smells gothic and mysterious and a bit hard to describe, like my other favourite scents (Tom Ford Black Orchid and Noir EDP). Maybe it could be summed up as warm myrrh and soapy incense but L'Agent, to me, is like a sexy vintage noir film set in Transylvania in a bottle. I fear I'll need backups of this one because it's so beautiful and sadly discontinued. I can see why people say this reminds them of Amouage Memoir W - there's this similar gothic profile to both scents (and I own both) but dare I say it, I prefer the Agent Provocateur over the Amouage. Memoir W smells like a whipped cream of plum and tuberose and sadly is lacking the beautiful Amouage soapy incense that I oddly smell quite strongly in L'Agent.

I managed to get my hands on an original bottle. Unfortunately it is not for me. Although I appreciate the quality and artistry of it, I can't get down with the vintage vibe.

I love Provanzano's AP frags even since the I had to go to great lengths to get the og ( not to mention, expense, it used to be a premium range sold in just a few places in the UK ) but never reviewed any. I'm doing this now as I've just posted a pic, and found myself reading divergent reviews and comments about ISO super. The confusion can be explained: a few years ago the owners of AP (Joe Corré son of the late, great Viv Westwood and Malcolm Maclaren and his missus, Serena Rees ) divorced and sold off the rights to the perfume line. Up to then they'd been produced in Italy by Selective Beauty on behalf of the brand. This continued for a while until Designer Fragrances took over. Following the divorce, they restructured and the perfume arm went to Interparfums in 2013, who moved production to the US, slashed prices and started churning out ( imho ) inferior flankers. They appeared to keep the ogs as they were for awhile but then started cutting corners and tweaking formulas. It's easy to tell: if it's Made in Italy for Selective Beauty then you have the a first formula; at the other extreme any bottle or flanker that came out after 2013, is not going to have the quality and pedigree of the earlier ones , Provanzano' having departed before that. So ..it depends: are you smelling the OG Made in Italy , it's the one Made in the US or...is it the last iteration distributed by EA, this recreation being an update with more of the popular aroma chemicals, the version that's, now it's discontinued, has become Miss AP. ( It also explains the confusion there, too: some thinking it's the same as L'Agent others similar but different !)

On first spray, this is rough - an iso-E-super and patchouli wack! But on further development, what evolves is almost niche by today's standards, while still approachable. Truly a mature fragrance offering, yet current. On my skin the scent becomes well balanced and beautiful, with an animalic floral note provided by angelica and friends. :) The powder and vanilla in this base truly balance everything beautifully. I have smelled more unique incense and patchouli scents, but few more wearable. Cozy, even. Five stars, surprisingly!

This is the type of fragrance that I base my interpretation of 'old lady' on, not fragrances with beautiful aldehydes like Habanita or L'Heure Bleue that I think a lot of people associate with 'old lady'. It smells cheap, overwhelming and just...not good.

I was actually tempted to buy this perfume when I saw that Christian Provenzano is the same perfumer that creates for perfume house Boadicea the Victorious. I still don't quite get this perfume after wearing it for a couple of times, it is sort of smoky but a bit sharp in a way, spicy and a little bit sweet, Definitely on the darker side. Not many similarities to Amouage - Memoire apart from being a 'darker' perfume, nothing similar to Psychadelic love, and a tiny similarity to Opium, maybe being a smoky incense perfume could make the worth comparing but nothing else I guess. I find L'Agent an entirely different perfume, a perfume on its own. But if you like above mentioned perfumes, this one is definitely worth trying I was quite surprised when I smelled it at first because I got a licorice and something like an anise odor. But these notes are not listed, so maybe it's the spices that are used with woody notes. The incense here is very prominent I think it's the main note that you get. To me this is a dark, mysterious, a bit 'dusty' perfume, that has fatal energy Not a light-hearted scent for sure, you have o be confident to wear this.

L'Agent for me is the smell of a spicy candle ( a rather cheap one) w/ a heavy geranium that has been burning way to long and it has finally been snuffed out but the wick of the candle just will not stop smoking. The smoke fills the house and the smoke alarm goes off because it is so damn smoky in the house. Really, really bad. Waxy smoke w/ geranium. A hard no.

I used to love this one, but lately I smell an annoyingly high amount of iso e super or fake oud, that I never perceived before. I bought my bottle in 2016 or 2017, and my same bottle still smells the same, but with that heavy aromachemical haze over all, which I was never able to smell before, but now has made me start hating some of my beloved fragrances. I still like it, and I love how it used to smell. But it's very difficult to wear without nausea now.

I bought this thinking it was strong and had great sillage but have found it did not last long on my skin and I could barely smell it. Disappointed.

Very pungent! Gives off that old world vibe. Quite spicy and incensy. It's a bit of a beast as it's long lasting. Probably best suited for night time. It's nice but not my type of scent. If you're looking for something similar (pungent and old world) Elie Saab's Nuit Noor is quite similar, except pricier.

I blind bought this on the basis of reviews (a vanishingly rare occurrence for me) and am very impressed- it's a BEAST of a scent. It's very much an amber front and centre scent- its strongest note is unapologetic smouldering pure amber resin. The huge hit of musk also makes it lean masculine- to my nose, its closest relative is Miller Harris La Fumée. I can appreciate the Memoir comparison, but this is stronger, dirtier, sassier. Sillage is phenomenal: one spray and you're set for about 12 hours (and one spray really is enough!) I think this is extraordinary for the price points (I was lucky enough to get a very cheap bottle from ebay): it's an extremely grown-up, dark, enveloping, resinous scent that makes a huge impression. I wonder why it was discontinued, then? My instinct is there was a marketing mismatch: it's an inexpensive, brazenly feminine brand, and even those familiar with other AP scents might not be ready for the sheer hit of amber and incense here. Highly recommended for adventurous, bold amber-lovers.
