pretty but doesn't last

Oh, the mystery of the olfactory perception..! I bought a sample of this thinking it should be right up my alley because I love tuberose and jasmine...but all I can smell is a very dirty public bathrom, like the one you can find at a very busy big city train station. Been a while since I was so disgusted by a perfume. It's revolting. I can't smell anything beyond the dirty, salty, animalic notes. The indolic components seem to overpower the rest of the composition for me, likely because of the addition of ambergris. And it's not even my skin chemistry, I haven't dared spraying it on my skin yet (and probably never will...).The way it comes out on the blotter and the atomizer is enough to completely put me off it.

First Amouage that doesn’t have a heavy Middle Eastern touch in it, but in the dry down it still goes in that direction slightly with olibanum rose and ambergris blended with jasmine in such a distinct way. It doesn’t evoke a beach, shore, seashells and such but I can imagine rich lady with huuuuge hat and white linen set sitting in a cafe near the beach. It has an airy quality to it as well

Little bit too indolic at first (i am super sensitive to it) but it smooths out into something wonderful

This smells like my dream life! A life of leisure, never ending joys, lightness; everything around is perfect. No war, no pain, no evil just pure content. This review probably only makes sense to me but I had to express how utterly overwhelmed I was when I first tried it.

Heady, mesmerizing jasmine, with salty ambergris to support its tea-like accords. Smells like a fresh breeze of sea air where rows and rows of jasmine sambac are in full bloom. Gorgeous and realistic, perfect for this upcoming summer. Dry down heads into that soapy direction which i don't love but it's alright. However, it's missing that Amouage edge. This is so pleasant that it's almost a little unsettling to think that it's from Amouage. I prefer the jasmine in Portrayal Woman better, that one will flip some rocks and hypnotizes the right people along its way.

Ashore is a jasmine soliflore. It could be argued that it is a bit more than that, but key to understanding this perfume is knowing that the experience on skin is going to be very different from on paper. On paper its very subtle nuances and shifts are pleasant experiences since that media allows for them to be better noticed. On skin you will be lucky to notice them at all. I wore this on nearly three full balmy spring days with a good amount of humidity in the air, and only to be noticed are a couple different facets of the jasmine sambac we all know and love. Cardamom with its cool and woody aroma at the top really only works to emphasize the highly indolic facet of jasmine, rather than making itself a stand-alone and pronounced note. The duo is quite dry and tannicky. A waxy fruity peppercorn and an earthy sweet carrot note of turmeric almost inaudibly drone on paper, but not on skin; on skin, it’s strictly indolic jasmine. The shift to the heart takes the jasmine closer to its standard citrusy and heady territories, and, curiously, seems to have random moments of muscularity when I would occasionally catch it on the breeze wafting across my arm, otherwise it stays close and quiet. Though, I must say, it is quite beautiful even if a bit unpredictable and inconsistent. It is a well-rounded and well-balanced jasmine accord. Then, of course, a descension into a musk and ambroxan base that gives us de rigueur scratchy floral and slightly salty musks and a bit of synthetic sandalwood. There is a bit more dimension to this on paper, with the wood a bit more convincing and the musk a bit more animalic, but on skin it is virtually unnoticeable. Meh. Not great, not bad either, rather mundane and predictable. I did find myself quite taken with the quality of the jasmine in the heart layer but surrounding it was not really enough to sustain interest nor to think it was anything particularly worthy of Amouage’s typically large price tag. If you’re wanting a very quiet, linear, but higher-quality-than-usual jasmine soliflore, this might be the perfume for you but definitely try it on skin first; Ashore seems to be a bit more facade than interior.

So so gorgeous, jasmine of my dream, this is your skin heated by the sun, kissed by the salty breeze of the ocean. Ashore on paper is nice, but it's sleeping, Ashore on the skin and heat becomes alive and I must say, very sexy. The dry down is the best part, let's say 2 hours in, warm embrace, jasmine really sinked, a dash of saltiness and very smooth resins and a sweetness than lingers. I dont know what magic is those solar notes but yes, it works. It does not lean tropical, definitely leaning femme, not sure this is unisex but I guess everyone can enjoy this. If you are new to jasmine it might punch a bit, as the opening is a dense jasmine but clear smooth and realistic, but for jasmine aficionados this is golden.

Amouage Ashore is definitely a perfume that needs sunshine. In cool weather, it seems to hold itself back and does not fully reveal its beauty. When I first tried it in the windy and cool climate where I live, I felt like something was missing. It was pleasant, but it did not give me the magic I was hoping for.Then a few days later, I wore it again on a sunny day, and everything changed. Suddenly, the fragrance came alive and the florals felt absolutely beautiful — radiant, enchanting, and much more expressive. It was one of those moments that reminds you how much weather can change a perfume.This is exactly why I believe some fragrances should never be judged too quickly. You really need to test them in the right season, in the right temperature, and under the right sky. Ashore taught me that sometimes a perfume is not the problem — the weather is.

I have it for 6 months. I come back to it to see how it stays on me, again and again, same, nothings changed, still smells to me like an old bar of soap made in the old times

A salty, indolic jasmine; and I loved it instantly, because it took me straight back to my summer house. The breeze rolling in from the sea, the taste of salt lingering on my lips, burying my face beneath start jasmine bushes. I adore wandering through gardens, and when they’re by the sea, everything feels infinitely better. This scent is just as beautiful as those moments. Any sweetness comes purely from the flower itself; barely there, almost fleeting. The spicy aspect is very restrained; what truly stands out is the sense of fullness and presence, which for me is a huge plus. I’m completely smitten. Tag(s): salty jasmine, indolic

I remember being recommended this as a close second by a sales assistant after giving them a sample of Guerlain's Jasmine extrait. It is quite nice, not as heavy as the extrait I was comparing it to, but definitely a pleasant heady jasmine, with jasmine as the dominant note.

It is abeautiful well composed perfume, but it has heady forward jasmin in whole life of the perfume. Extremely strong and long lasting.

A well-composed fragrance with green jasmine notes. This is the kind of Amouage I love. Slightly salty, with a tropical-creamy feel, like a hint of frangipani

It's a beachy white floral. Has some of the same DNA as Honour, but with strong white floral, which makes this feel cold. Like you are on a beach, but after rainfall, with cold water blowing in your face (nothing aquatic about it though). Quite cloying because of the beachy notes. VERY strong. Definitely a "one spray" fragrance, as it kept getting stronger and stronger over the next few hours after spraying.

So although I do feel that this is super pretty, I do not think that I would purchase it again. The reason being that I do not feel that the Sillage is too weak. It is not a powerhouse like I would expect from amouage. It is beautiful though for days when you want a lighter perfume, for summer days reminiscent of the ocean, waves, sunsets and beachwood. I will alllow it to macerate somewhat to see if this changes FINAL UPDATE: I ended up sending it back. Because even though I do feel that it is beautiful, it does not last at all on my skin.The sillage is not good either. I get about 3-4 hours of a skin scent, and therefore it just isn't for me.

Gorgeous scent. I bought the 1.7 bottle since it was only $100 and that way I can decide if later I would want a full size. This is my first mini version and is absolutely adorable.

I can't tell for sure if my view of this perfume is too biased to be of value. I have terrible luck with jasmine in perfumes, at least once I spray them on my skin, even if they smell delightful on the blotter. Most of the time my skin turns them bitter, acrid, almost metallic, nothing like the actual flowers, which is a terrible shame. I tried Ashore impulsively, not knowing its notes, just because I was at the Amouage counter and it was the first tester I picked up, and once I had I liked the scent coming off it enough to try on skin. It smells like jasmine on me, I almost can't believe it, I keep smelling my wrist to make sure I'm not imagining things, or that it hasn't turned horrible, but it just keeps on smelling of jasmine. If my memory is correct, it even smells a little like jasmine polyanthum, the jasmine I am used to, and the one whose scent I truly adore. There's a sweet, almost vanilla icecream element to the scent. Not expensive vanilla icecream, which is rich and fatty, and uses real vanilla, but that thin, sweet, milky kind of vanilla icecream like a softserve. A cool, delicate sweetness. It's coming into spring here, and the jasmine flowers all over the neighbourhood are budding, though not yet blooming. Once they do, I'll have a better sense of how much their scent resembles this perfume in reality, and not just my imaginings. I am more than half in love with this perfume, just because for once something still smells of jasmine when I spray it on my skin, so I can't tell you objectively whether I think it's a good perfume. It's certainly a very pleasant perfume, but I suspect if jasmine notes don't turn tend to turn horribly on your skin there are probably other, cheaper, alternatives. For now I will sit around and contemplate whether "still smells like jasmine on my skin" is justification to even think about buying a full bottle of such an expensive perfume.

Ahhhh what an underrated gem! I received a sample of this by chance in a random sample set. It was in a decant vial only labelled with ‘ashore’. I tried it out as it sounded intriguing. With no idea what to expect, i immediately fell in love. I love jasmine in general and this is as everyone has said, a pure jasmine fragrance. Not exactly what i was expecting from the name ‘Ashore’ but it is an uplifting photorealistic green jasmine scent with a slight salty airy vibe. I’ll continue to experiment with my sample, but definitely think this is full bottle worthy. Ashore is the scent I was expecting or hoping for when I blind bought Armani Prive Eclat de Jasmin, which was also described as a green photorealistic jasmine scent. However there is something pungent in the Armani scent and I think I succumbed to the pressure of it being discontinued which is why I scrambled for a bottle… had I smelt the two side by side, I would have 100% purchased Ashore. This will also be my first amouage purchase, which I am excited about given I always admired the fragrance house for their quality but found their scents to be too overpowering or complex to see myself wearing. 10/10 and would recommend for anyone that loves Jasmine

Ashore by Amouage is a tropical floral for nerds. A typical tropical floral, for example, Lys 41 by Lelabo, is the hot girl at the beach party, while Ashore is the introspective girl reading a book at the beach, taking breaks to study the washed up debris. She is an awkward sort of pretty, and to other nerds, she is THE hot girl. The dominant jasmine and solar accords keep things in the territory of tropical floral, but the incense and spices keep things interesting and unique. Maybe I am just drinking the marketing kool aid, but I can see how the incense combined with other notes, including amber gris, is making me think of drift wood and pebbles polished over millions of years. Ashore isn't as sweet as most tropical florals and the dry down is a javenol sandalwood that is almost unisex. When I first smelled this, all I could detect were the jasmine and solar notes, but then I retested the opening and realized that the frankincense was present immediately, combining with the jasmine to make 7Up soda. I like quasi-lemony frankincense note that Mackenzie Reilly uses in her compositions. She also used it in her Zoologist offerings and I am excited to try more of her work. This is going on my full bottle list! 4/5

I just received a sample and am kind of on the fence. It is a beautiful smell, but for some reason it smells like something I have had before and I can't place it! Does anyone else know?

This is the kind of Amouage that’s beautiful from the start, but I can tell it’s going to grow on me more and more (just like Guidance did). The opening really confused me at first. I smelled something spicy and familiar, but couldn’t figure out what it was. Then I checked the notes and of course…turmeric! It’s such an unusual note, and I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it in a perfume before. Warm, golden, and a little earthy. As it settles, it softens into a lovely jasmine. It’s light, feminine, and a little exotic, not bold or heavy like her sister Portrayal. I don’t pick up much rose here. Overall I think its fairly simplistic compared to most other Amouage fragrances. Simple doesn’t mean boring. I’m testing this in winter, but I already know she’ll shine in the warmer months. There’s a lightness here that feels made for sun on skin. I can’t wait to revisit her in summer and see what else she reveals with heat and time. EDITED TO ADD - I've worn this a couple of times since writing this and for what its worth, every time, my husband has told me I smell like a daffodil... lol

It's like a modern-day Grace Kelly stepping off a yacht. Truly uplifting. Ashore mostly makes me think of salty orange blossom for some reason. Maybe it's the ambergris and floral notes. This perfume makes me realise that those fresh neroli vibes I get from perfumes such as 'Knot' by Bottega Venetta, are maybe 'solar notes'. I'm wondering if 'solar notes' might be Salicylates' - (aroma chemicals well described by Elena Vosnaki on 'Perfume Shrine'). Whatever! This is uplifting. It feels bright, but definitely not in a jarring way. It does indeed feel sunny, fresh and floral, with maybe a little touch of fresh salty sweat. It reminds me a bit of Eau de Merveilles by Hermes, but different. Ashore is perhaps slightly more relaxed, the Hermes slightly more elegant/posh/poised - the classic highly poised Grace Kely as opposed to the contemporary more relaxed one. Big like.

Opens with an almost mineralic cold peppery spiciness, tempered by warm florals underneath. The opening then merges seamlessly into the development, with salty mineral overtones lapping like waves over the same warm floral undertones. It's like standing by the sea on a beach of stones and shells, with a field of wildflowers behind you lending a dry pollen-y herbal waft to the air. The jasmine specifically does get a stronger as it dries down, after a couple of hours, but this is not a floral-forward scent to my nose. Instead, it is complex, and changeable, like the sea and the sky and the fields. Not "pretty," but beautiful and raw.

No, this is not a primarily jasmine scent, I think as many Amouage creations, Ashore is complex and it is hard to mane the individual notes, thus making people confused. Yes, it does have a clear floral aspect, but don't be scared if you don't love jasmine, I don't find it prominent at all. If someone told me that it smells like skin in the sun, I would totally believe them. Somehow it is easy, slow, happy, not overpowering, cute and cozy. Solar notes realy make sense in this. This is a lovely, complex composition with a nice performance, but not overpowering.

The opening of Ashore is so beautiful. It makes me inhale slowly and deeply, savoring the scent of such a pure and uplifting jasmine. I truly get the feeling of walking along a beach, wind sweeping through my hair, sand in my toes, and smelling jasmine on the wind. It’s gorgeous. But that feeling only lasts about 10 minutes and then it’s much more quiet and subdued. It wears very close to my skin, the sweet, pretty jasmine and soft sandalwood. I like it. But, oh that opening….I long for it.

Very strange, especially for a Salmon era Amouage. It's very spicy and aldehydic, with a monstrous, woody, musky, ambergris base. I left it a few months and it's really changed in the bottle. Every time I smell my skin I get something different. One minute there's huge turmeric, the next it's gone, but overall the thing I get least is the rose, then the jasmine, whereas when I first sprayed from the flacon it was jasmine-forward and much more gentle. I'm glad it turned out like this, and I'd say contrary to the bottle shape and packaging design this will be one for days when I want to wear a masculine scent. Update: I ended up hating this perfume. There's something bothersome in the drydown, the same thing that ruins Lineage for me. Horrible.
