Bracken Man

A bright and zingy opening., Really green which I like. Then a bergamot/lemon blast appears however still got that Amouage DNA. The top notes don’t stay long and the woods come out and it’s starting to resemble a lighter epic man in the mids. Nice clean woods. The naturals are really singing in this one, I am wondering if it will last that long. The green and woods together is working well and it’s really well balanced. I think this can be worn most seasons and is office safe haha. It’s a little tart/sharp a little like the opening of sospiro vibrato however smoother than that one. I’m hoping the base kicks in soon as this is a potential masterpiece….. Starting to get the nutmeg one thru which is weird as it’s a top note it’s bringing depth to the fragrance. The scent isn’t challenging however it’s so good… Is there clove in this, I swear I can detect it however it’s not on the note breakdown. It’s giving a spicy edge as it dries now. Oh here comes the patchouli, I love natural patchouli…..mixed with the musks this is really working for me. Also the soft spices are sticking around. In the drydown it becomes a more recognized Amouage fragrance: warm, mysterious, deep….just beautiful.

Essentially a beau de jour overdosed with cloves and made beast mode. Clean lavender without that dusty woody patchouli you find in Beau de jour or Zino. The freshness pierce through cold in office AC. Super masculine.

This is your father's shaving cream the first time you saw him perform that masculine ritual. Great nostalgia! I don't have to mention performance or quality of ingredients because we're talking about Amouage. 9/10. Too bad it got discontinued.

There is a point somewhere after the opening, maybe ten or fifteen minutes in, where Bracken Man quietly reveals that almost everyone has been describing the wrong fragrance. The first spray is green, yes, but not the cheerful, dewy kind of green that marketing departments like to photograph beside moss-covered stones and mountain streams. It is darker than that. Bitter. Ferns, crushed leaves, damp soil still holding onto last night's rain, and a medicinal sharpness that feels less decorative than botanical, as if someone has handed you a plant whose name you don't know but instinctively understand you probably shouldn't eat. What surprised me is how little interest Bracken has in being immediately likable. Modern fragrance often spends its first thirty seconds auditioning for your approval with citrus, sweetness, or polished woods. Bracken almost seems embarrassed by the whole exercise. It walks into the room already convinced it doesn't need your permission. That confidence can easily be mistaken for distance, even severity, but spending time with it reveals something much more interesting. The lavender is a perfect example. It isn't the clean barbershop lavender that announces itself with crisp white towels and polished mirrors. Instead it folds into the greenery until both become difficult to separate, giving the fragrance a texture that feels soft without ever becoming comforting. There are moments where it almost smells like the air inside an old greenhouse, humid and filled with living things, except everything has matured beyond flowering into something woody, earthy, and quietly aromatic. As it develops, the composition begins shedding its sharper edges. Patchouli, cedar, and a gentle thread of musk slowly rise to the surface, though "surface" is probably the wrong word because nothing here arrives dramatically. The fragrance simply shifts its weight one careful inch at a time until you suddenly realize the stern herbal opening has become something remarkably elegant. Not warmer exactly. More human. Less about the forest itself than the person who has spent enough years walking through it that the scent has become part of them. This is where Bracken separates itself from so many green fragrances that mistake freshness for personality. It never feels engineered around the idea of smelling expensive. Instead it smells composed, the way someone can be quietly articulate without feeling the need to dominate every conversation. There is restraint here, but it isn't minimalism. It's confidence earned through omission. I can understand why opinions on Bracken are so divided. If your idea of green fragrance begins and ends with bright citrus, clean vetiver, or transparent aromatics, this may feel almost aggressively old fashioned at first. But I don't think it's nostalgic. It simply belongs to a lineage that assumes fragrance can ask something of the wearer instead of endlessly accommodating them. It expects patience. It rewards attention. The strange thing is that once Bracken settles into your memory, other green fragrances can start feeling simplified by comparison. Not worse, just flatter. Bracken has shadows. It has awkward transitions. It occasionally smells almost medicinal before reminding you, several minutes later, that medicine and nature have always shared the same roots. That tension is what makes it compelling. It is not the green fragrance I reach for most often. It may not even be the easiest Amouage to recommend. But every time I wear it I end up thinking about it long after it has disappeared, which is probably a better measure of success than whether strangers complimented it. Some fragrances are enjoyable while they're on your skin. Bracken is more interesting because it lingers somewhere else entirely, quietly rearranging your expectations of what "green" was supposed to mean in the first place.

Best modern fougere you can get, Great scent, masculine, great performance... it's a shame this beaty is discontinued

It's amazing, although be warned, if you don't like geosmin, this has the same, big, eternal geosmin note as Figment Man. I find them both genius. BTW Viride is close, but sadly it's closer to Beau de Jour than Bracken Man. It's more of a minty boiled sweet than an earthy fougère. Viride soon breaks down into discernable aromachemicals, Bracken does not.

Amouage has been a difficult house overall for me....Does anyone just smell wet soil?

This has been long forgotten about in my big big collection of fragrances along with Beach Hut Man & Sunshine Man. The bottles to my Sunshine, Beach Hut & Bracken look similar & they where my forgotten step children, Always revisiting every so often & remembering I didn’t care for Beach Hut for good reason & Sunshine all of a sudden is fire that I just never I never knew I had!! And this?? Probably the best fougure ever created!! To some a priceless gem!! I have a little over half a bottle & It kills me all of a sudden to know I can’t wear this as often as I’d like to now…This is a true big boy frag If You’re ever witnessed one! I just wish they would bring this one back

It is hard to let go of the thought that someone at Amouage must have thought “Hold my beer” at some point following the release of Orto Parisi’s Viride in 2014. It is simply too easy to imagine Alessandro Gualtieri’s evocation of a “Yemeni man, who wears his traditional floral crown” in “a garden that has been planted, fertilized, and cultivated” being perceived as a provocative attempt at Amouage’s central tenet of being the sheikhs of Middle Eastern perfumery. Two years later, the release of Bracken Man became in that scenario the answer to that glove slapped right in their face by a cheeky Italian. The rough greenery of Bracken man is ever so slightly sweetened in the manner of French upscale fougères such as Invasion Barbare and other efforts of modernising the style of Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934). So where the sweetening of Viride gives a slight banana chewing gum association, you will get a more traditional vanillic tonka/lavender-combo here. Clove is the central spice that adds warmth. The use of it is quite heavy-handed and gives associations to Jacomo de Jacomo (1980) but not so much so that the overall experience leaves the office/barbershop territory. Performance is good but as so often with Amouage (and modern perfumes in general) you should be a bit careful with the dosage if you are going to wear it in confined spaces. I have to say I am impressed, and when my bottle runs out I will perhaps also try the clones that are still available. It is a pity Bracken man was discontinued, because it filled a space that is not too crowded and it avoids the ambroxan trap of several modern fougères. What it does best, perhaps, is to combine artistry with wearability just perfectly. If Invasion Barbare represents the decadent luxury of Ancient Rome and Viride represents the barbaric invaders, Bracken Man is their lovechild, the one that after all brings balance to the continent.

I understand the hype around Bracken Man, it truly stands out🙌🤩. Nothing in my collection smells quite like it. A ziny🍋🫒, spicy green fougère🍃🍀🪾🍁 total worth being a signature scent for a distinguish man 9/10

I just got my hands on a sample. Wow, Bracken Man is an incredibly well-executed, three-dimensional fougère; a stand-out entry in an olfactory genre jam-packed with bangers and mediocrity alike. Sorely disappointed in its discontinuation, otherwise I would've sprung for a full bottle. Unlike its zingier/fresher contemporaries, Bracken Man carries a well-balanced and unparalleled smoothness: It envelopes you like a creamy, warmly spiced drink, with a dash of uplifting sweetness. The cloves and nutmeg combine with the patchouli and sandalwood seamlessly, eschewing the citric, camphoric, or coniferous astringency that can crinkle the nose. Given Bracken Man's discontinuation, the most pleasing alternative I can think of is Creed Viking - at least the older batches (2018ish) that have had a chance to mature. By no means is it a substitute -- Viking feels much fresher and "friendlier" with the pink pepper and peppermint -- but the spices and wood profiles are otherwise similar. As an Amouage creation comprising top-quality ingredients, Bracken Man proffers a subtle yet unmistakable "wow" factor that entries like Fougère Royale and TF Beau de Jour lack, comparatively.

The best fougere fragrance on the market (it's discontinued, so it's not on the market anymore lol), no questions asked. By discontinuing it, Amouage shot itself in the knee. Outright, you're blasted with a beautiful scent of forest floor vegetation mixed with a little bit of citrus and lavender. Almost earthy, but only a little bit, not to overwhelm any other notes. As the citruses fade, the forest nuances stay and mix with a wooden accord seasoned with some spices. The DNA reminds me of Amouage Beach hut but it's more aromatic rather than "green" like Beach Hut. And the performance? For a fragrance that can easily be used all year long (even in summer), it's just insane. It's going to sit on your skin for HOURS, and I'm not exaggerating, nuclear performance. If you have a chance to buy it I'd rather suggest testing it first as it's not your usual aromatic/fresh fragrance, if you liked Beach Hut, though, there is a high chance you will love Bracken Man. It's an amazing fougere fragrance that will make you sad because fragrance houses don't produce blends like that anymore. I really hope it will come back one day.

Yes Bracken Man is sadly discontinued... BUT! If you want a better version of Bracken Man try getting a bottle of Polysnifferous Brackish Man. The perfumer took the dna and made his version of it. He did a great job too. Availability is limited because he hand makes each batch. If you can get a bottle you won't be disappointed. Also, this last batch had a great added boozy accord to make it even better. If you're quick enough when it's released again you can score a bottle!!! Good luck!!! @Mikeltee No.

I see a lot of people with great taste in this comment section, they want this perfume back, but I have bad news for you folks, it ain't coming back. Not with this new creative director that knows nothing about perfume and only knows about making generic scents and focuses on marketing about how they macerate their oils using a fucking barrel infused with his own shit
