Fate Man

13 years later and I have still never experienced something quite like this. The opening to me is one of the greatest smells. I always picture this molten amber inside of an extremely old tree. I've always been told it's too spicy or I smell like sawdust. The dry down is so spectacular though. The cumin starts to mix with the woods and create this almost sweet, creamy sandalwood, spicy amber dry down. 10/10 smell for me. I can "understand" why they discontinued it as it won't be for everyone. I still don't agree with it though. At least make small batches. Please bring all of the discontinued Amouage back. More people need to have easier access to this art.

Sugary sweet amber accord, sharp fresh ginger, leathery saffron accord, herbal notes, dry woods and bitter warm spices (cumin is very noticeable). hedione gives it a very "airy" like feel . in some ways ( sweet sugary nature, dry amber woods and bitter spice/resin nature) reminds me of decision by amouage but that one is more citrusy and got a smoke like nature to it. Also if you like this, definately try stellar times by lv.

It's alright. It just smells like amber and licorice.

The elephant in the room: this isn't as challenging as people have historically made it out to be. I owe to the possibility that my nose has become more accustomed to more extreme aromas over time, but the brass tacks is this; at its core, Fate Man is a green-musky fougere comparable to Creed's Green Irish Tweed. It's a little more spicy, more amber, more exotic, but foundationally, it is similar. Where GIT goes to soap, Fate Man goes to incense resin. Both are fresh enough to be decently versatile. I find the prominent notes in Fate Man to be the wormwood, olibanum, copahu balm, immortelle, and the licorice and musks making up the base. The cumin is there, it isn't as challenging as you are lead to believe. If you're into perfume (which, seeing as this has been discontinued for a few years, I don't know why else you would be here) this carries more intrigue and artistry than your run of the mill fougere, with comparable use cases. It's good. Is it great? If you're into ambery, resinous oriental offerings, I can see this being up your alley. If you're expecting a paint by numbers freshie, probably not for you.

Fate Man could almost be classified as a gourmand: savory and lightly sweet, it smells like a warm, spicy dish of Indian curry. The cumin, immortelle and licorice come through most noticeably for me. Though fenugreek is not listed, I also can't help but detect a maple syrup accord that makes this one highly unique. Quite masculine, I could see this shining in colder weather. The bottle is among the most stunning from the house, showcasing the same "petroleum-in-a-puddle-of-water-rainbow-effect" found in Portrayal Man. I wouldn't pay current discontinued prices, but I'm glad to get my nose on a decant of another truly unique scent from Karine Vinchon Spehner.

Fate Man from the Arab House of Perfumery Niche Haute Luxury Amouage from the Sultanate of Oman is a Oriental Spicy Amber Incensed Woody Men's perfume. It was released in 2013 and has unfortunately been discontinued. The perfumer who signs this fragrance is the experienced and talented Karine Vinchon Spehner. Fate Man is a fragrance of opulence and dramatic intensity, created during Amouage's golden age of truly bold and exotic Arabian perfumery. The fragrance opens with a striking explosion of herbs and spices, highlighting the spiciness of a heavy dose of cumin, tempered by a sweet spiced saffron blending with the luminosity and burning of ginger, accentuated by the herbal bitterness of absinth just a slight touch of tangerine. Immediately setting a warm, spicy and unmistakably luxurious tone to this arabesque creation. A screeching spicy opening! The heart of the perfume features a unique blend of an exceptional smoky sweet incense trademark of Amouage and the delicate sweetness of wild immortelle flowers, with a hint of rose that adds a subtle floral elegance. It is further balanced by the resinous balsamic richness of copaiba with labdanum ... intertwining smoke, resin, and subtle flowers into a richly textured and deeply evocative core. This phase resembles the exuberance of a traditional Middle Eastern Souk. Towards its base, the fresh and sweet lavender added to the bittersweet of the licorice that, together with the absinth of the opening, carry the vibration of an almost camphor anise. This base is deep and mysterious, with sandalwood and cedar woods adding depth and an exquisite elegance, softened by a musk accord with tonka, creating a dry, warm, sweet, woody and incensed finish. RIP to the greatest immortelle fragrance of all.

A very mature scent. This might be a bit intimidating if you dont have the confidence to wear it. Also kinda challenging but in all the good way possible. Try it on 3 ml decant.

I had this imaginary conversation in my head of trying to describe an everything-bagel to someone who had never experienced one before. Perhaps someone from France or the Middle East, anywhere other than the US, where they wouldn't understand something that is a massive amalgamation of every smell you could imagine placed on-top of something where they wouldn't normally be in the first place. Saffron, wormwood, ginger, cumin and mandarin; heart of roses, olibanum, lavender, immortelle, labdanum and copahu balm; base notes of tonka, labdanum, cedar, sandalwood, musk and licorice. Does it contain all of those notes? Yes, probably. However, it's impossible to get past the cumin-forward sweat and body odor opening to smell anything else in that stage, and the rest of the perfume's life is so disjointed and acrid that you have to wonder whether or not it has most of those notes at all. It's thin and wan, which also means subpar performance to Amouage standards. I'm on the neutral fence leaning towards "dislike" with Fate Man because there is a part of it that's strangely compelling, but it's not enough to overcome the many other issues. On one hand inviting, on the other pushing you away. Perhaps that's what it's supposed to do; perhaps that's fate made manifest in a fragrance.

One of the greatest fragrances of all time IMHO. Challenging in the sense that it is unique and kind of strange, but very pleasant and lovable. Picked up a bottle right before it was discontinued mashallah

The cumin here is very much "cumin as food", and not at all like Déclaration de Cartier or L'Eau d'Hermès, where it's "cumin as flesh, body, earth, sex". In fact, this feels like a whole load of dry spice - a spice cupboard. It is a spacious, echoey take on spice. The spice moves to the background during the drydown. Just as present (or moving to the fore) is an underpinning of good quality church incense, with layers of different resins - maybe it's that lending it the expansive, open, spacious quality? In fact, the incense is really the triumph here, not the spice. I am an incense nut. I am a skanky fleshpot cumin nut. I bought it for the cumin, but liked it more for the very sophisticated resins developing through the incense accord. Overall, I like this a lot, but it's not a unicorn scent.

Amouage saved the best bottle for their best fragrance.

Very strong cumin note. Like you are cooking Indian food. I do not say this in a bad way, it's actually really nice the way they utilized it. This is a very warm and cozy scent first and foremost. The spices give that off along with the supporting ingredients. This one is very interesting and extremely well composed. Super niche, so get a sample first! The drydown is awesome on this one.

I wish i had enough money to not feel bad about getting back-up bottles of this and figment. Two of the most underrated and misunderstood fragrances ever created. So opulent and beautiful. I love this stuff. It took me even longer to understand and like than figment man but it was so worth it. I will cherish my 100ml and my 100ml of figment till one day, i run out and will try to get another one of each.

This is a one in a million masterpiece. There was a reformulation between the non-magnetic and magnetic cap versions, but it didn't destroy it (if anything it's slightly less culinary now, and the performance is better on the more recent version). No house has the gall to do this type of thing now, including Amouage in its current guise. A note for those who haven't smelled it - if you do, you may initially be appalled, as I was, but wear it a couple of times. You may still not like it, or the switch might flip in your brain, and you'll enter the Fate matrix, and appreciate what genius it is. Also, I don't disagree with the comment below about the smell on clothes after cooking with cumin... but somehow it works. If I had to wear perfumes by only one pefurmer for the rest of my life, it would be Karine Vinchon-Spehner, she's got the most magic touch ❤️

On my skin, this is a cumin bomb… It’s fresh in a “I just cooked something delicious, and it stuck to my clothes” kinda way. After a couple hours, it dries down to something very unique, and I think I love it.

You guys talk about how unlikable this is but it’s only with certain demographics. Not even trying to pick on people but only people without brown skin have disliked it on me bc it’s too spicy for them. And I get it this isn’t something that’s anywhere close to familiar for them I ain’t mad at it. But for people who’ve seen more than 3 continents and have a love for culture and flavor this is a home run scent. I get girls asking me what I’m wearing every time bc they want it for themselves! So I don’t think it’s actually all that masculine. Kinda paid a lot for it but it was worth it. Gorgeous in every way. I like it better than journey man actually which I adored but has gotten a bit harsh to me actually. This feels way smoother Edit: the more I wear it the more obviously masculine it gets but I need some of these for when I’m around family of the old head traditional type and don’t wanna explain why I smell like Aphrodite lol. Wore it for a birthday dinner and a group of men were talking about their own perfumes after smelling mine bc it made inspired them and made them want to find something as beautiful

I'm getting to try this one out. It wasn't love at first sniff because this stuff punches you in the face for a minute or two before you can start to distinguish what it might be doing. Not that that is a bad thing. Then I can smell that beautiful cumin saffron spicy incense. The cumin is salty and peppery and with saffron has a essence of leather. It's elegant and not shy. Just when you think it might be too spicy and peppery the wormwood, lavender, licorice mix starts to come around and settles the spices. I'm just getting past the opening. It was so impressive I came to write before I think too much. More coming next paragraph. That mix that develops in the heart also brings out the rose. I have trouble getting the whole spectrum in rose scents but I would say this is like a black rose with some blue tinted gray petals. With the herbs and spices the rose has a tea like smell to me. It's not very bright or floral. Maybe even hints of like a clean blue rose. Very nice and complex as it develops. Kind of took me by surprise and is going on a journey. Incense is there like a compass giving direction. There is an Indian tea this smells like. It's a traditional tea from the coast and islands. I forget the name. Amouage DNA spicy Indian tea. It's fantastic. It works surprisingly well in the heat with moderation. In the cold it takes much more sprays to keep up.

Of all of the Amouage samples i received recently, this is my least favorite. It is astringent and overwhelming. It has a fruity dryness about it that is very off putting. Cumin is a tough note to enjoy and needs to be done a certain way for me to enjoy it. Immortelle has an ambery syrup facet to it that i feel like plays into the cumin giving this sort of unappealing feel. Then throw in licorice and wormwood and it is something not many people will enjoy unless you have experience or know what these notes are.

I’ve learned more about this fragrance since I paid a steep price for another bottle after learning of its discontinuation! I’ve known I’ve loved it for the 8 years I’ve owned it..But decided to spray a lot in my beard that I’ve decided to grow recently after my shower tonight & finding that this is rich in licorice & with these other sweet & dry spicy notes & geniously sweetened with the pairing of immortale & saffron along with labdanum..People, You can take your mind off cumin!!!!! For this is only in the beginning of this one & The way it was done I happen to love it!!! My hats off to the creator!!! It isn’t meant to be universally liked!! This is for someone on a whole other level in their fragrance journey!! This in short is the niche version of “Spicebomb” That I’m almost certain has sold damn near what Dior Sauvage has over time!! But again, This one is, Or should I say was… For those of you on their next level!!! I’m glad to have been able to get myself one last bottle of this gem, In which I feel the need to salute!!!!!

It hurt as of today to order a second bottle, But it’s about to get super ridiculous & then be gone forever & don’t want to be without just yet!! It seems that people are finding out just how good it is now that it’s too late! This isn’t just cumin, It’s cumin done right with worm wood & licorice & much much more! & When smelling the drydown on my my shirt I get the immortelle that I get in Sunshine Man! There just simply isn’t anything like it!! & truly good enough for me to repeat buy at double the price I paid for it in 2017! I receive nothing but compliments on a fragrance most of the fragrance community has always dogged!!

Have two sprays of this on my left arm. In the air it has a BDC parfum kind of smell. Really classy and nice. When you get closer, you smell more of the curry like realistic cumin. It’s not b/o like cumin and more like pure cumin that you use for cooking. The more I smell it, the more I get that BDC parfum woody citrus iso e super combo but just with that dry realistic cumin on top of it. Its got good light projection with good longevity. Its a try before buy for many but its worth the try cause its different and worth exploring. Edit: the more it dries down, the more the cumin goes down and the BDC Parfum woody, sandalwood, iso e super dry down comes out and at this point of the dry down, I’m liking the smell a lot. It’s also getting better projection as it dries down too. Just because of that, this might be one of the easy to wear Amouage’s if you can get past the spice in the initial spray. Really good perfume that changes alot from opening to dry down. Give it time to evolve and you won’t regret it.

This is most underrated fragrance of all time. Cursed those who discontinued it and those who bashed it!!! There is cumin but there is nothing scary as some suggest....they probaly never wore it or gave it chance. This is upscale masculine fragrance. Full throttle! On the other hand do you really think that it would be in some fragrance company interest to release something that no one would buy?? Long story short.....I LOVE THIS ONE. It is nothing short of art in bottle. 10/10

Wear this several times, then several times more before deciding whether you like it. Most likely you'll start with a gasp and a grimace but end up with a lifelong love story.
