Karine literally doesn't miss. Everything she makes is a masterpiece.

Whenever I start to question the direction Amouage has taken—leaning toward more approachable releases or reinterpreting familiar DNA in the Amouage style—I think about perfumes like Silver Oud, Royal Tobacco, Purpose, and, of course, Lineage. All of them were created under Renaud Salmon's direction, and all of them prove the brand hasn't abandoned its willingness to take risks. Lineage is undoubtedly one of the strangest and most challenging perfumes Amouage has ever released. It feels as if you're a sailor in the medieval ages, caught in the middle of a violent storm. The salt from the sea has soaked into the ship's old, weathered wood after months of relentless waves. As the storm finally breaks with the morning light, the cargo has been scattered across the deck. Burnt spices, warmed by the sun for hours combined with the sharp mineral salt that clings to every surface. The result is haunting, windswept, and unlike almost anything else in perfumery (besides a couple notable ones like zoologist squid and profumum Roma’s acqua di sale, although lineage only has a tiny resemblance to both). Lineage is weird. It's unforgettable. It probably won't get you compliments….it might even earn you a complaint. But it's a true niche perfume, completely uncompromising in its vision. And that's something most fragrances can never claim. (Wearing at time of review)

I first smelt Lineage from the Scentxplore sample pack back in December of 2022, the scent memory it evoked was quite powerful and took me back to my childhood! I initially thought it smelled like (in a good way) the rotting oranges from my grandma's backyard and perhaps some sunscreen. As the sample macerated, I was a little bummed that Lineage (or at least my perception of it) changed to be more of the clean, spicy, sparkling, frankincense that I continue to get today. Lineage smells like you're burning or melting actual frankincense and myrrh resins, and lasts all day! It's not a heavy church-y incense; it's light, airy, spicy, and almost sparkling with effervescence. That's Quentin Bisch for ya! All of the scents in the Odyssey line are phenomenal, and Lineage is no exception!!!

nothing too remarkable honestly, it smells like a very nice luxurious beachside resort with a bit of incense not bad but imo nothing to be praised

Clean frankincense, aldehydes, tree-sap, sage, spices, & a bleu aquatic calone type note. Carnation, cinnamon, violet. Starts strong but quiets down quickly. Artful unique blend but wish it had better performance.

Amouage's way of an Aquatic perfume. Beautifull ! Instant love at first sniff. Update: Yes the first spray / hour is good The dry down is a bit boring.. But i think i'm still gonna buy a bottle lol.

Lineage makes me think of a summer spent on the shores of the Pacific Northwest. Salt water meeting forests of pine and douglas fir, warm sun and cold rocks. The incense is not heavy like some of their other scents- instead it gives it a clean, almost sterile facet much like Existence. That said, this is one those fragrances that you absolutely need to test before you buy- the spices may not sit well on your skin. I love this one, the quality is unparalleled.

Şimdilik 10 ml dekantım var, i am in love, büyük bir şişe istiyorum. Bence başyapıt!

Despite the early differences, Lineage soon dries down to something in the same neighborhood as Herman a mes Cote by ELDO at a quarter of the price. Neither is my cup of tea, so this is a pass for me.

Анонім

Only Amouage can make an incense fragrance for summer. It's light, refreshing, and a literal interpretation of burning incense at your beach house.

Woah, this stuff is weird. This is a very artistic release from Amouage that nobody talks about, and I love it. It’s super super inky, salty, and spicy, but the spice is super super mild and in the background. It smells like I got pulled out miles into the sea on a darky, rainy, and gloomy day with sea salt and squid ink accumulating on my skin throughout the journey. Very well done. Edit: uh oh, I need a bottle

Lineage – AmouageI reached for Lineage because I read: "mineral, incense, salty, spiritual, elegant."And yes, I got exactly that. Only in the version: an old, neglected small-town church, an uncle's funeral at half past eleven, damp walls, crooked pews, wreaths with ribbons, and at the back a family crying with one eye while the other is already calculating who gets the plot of land.First hitThe first hit smells like a cold church where the heating works only in theory, and the walls still remember a priest who had a suspiciously good mood after Christmas pastoral visits. There is incense. A lot of incense. The kind from a thurible, swung by a priest with the expression of a man who has performed the same choreography for thirty years and no longer needs to look. The smoke goes into your face, your coat, your scarf, your conscience, and stays there like an old family secret. Then come the funeral wreaths: wet chrysanthemums, lilies, green leaves, floral foam soaked with water and grief, plastic ribbons reading "Final farewell," fluttering like decorations for a cheap drama. After an hourAfter an hour you leave the church and the procession begins toward the cemetery. The road is muddy, the earth sucks at your shoes, someone carries an umbrella that turns inside out in the wind, and a cousin in the second row is already whispering to his wife: "I wonder if he signed the flat over to the young one."The scent becomes wetter, earthier, saltier. Like tears, but not clean, theatrical tears. More like hurried tears wiped with a glove, between one "he was a good man" and another "but he did have a difficult character."You smell a damp coat, cold stones, old wooden pews, incense settling on flowers, and mud at the cemetery gate. In the background, the widow's performed lament sounds convincing for the first two minutes, and then she adjusts her hat and asks who is driving her to the wake.In the baseIn the base, Lineage becomes truly beautiful, but in an absolutely socially unhealthy way. It is no longer just the funeral. It is the moment after, when everyone is sitting at a long table, there is soup, a heavy main course, compote, someone clears their throat, someone says "well, at least he is not suffering anymore," and three people at once pretend this is not about the will. The incense still sits in the clothes. The wreaths rot elegantly by the grave. There is mud on your shoes. Pepper on your tongue. On your face, the expression of someone who came to mourn the deceased but also needs to establish who is taking the sideboard. It smells like holiness after contact with a family. Supposedly mystical, supposedly dignified, but underneath someone is already hissing through their teeth: "she was always greedy."Longevity?Like gossip after a wake.It sits on skin long and calmly, but it does not disappear politely. It stays like incense in a coat you pull out a week later and suddenly get a flashback: priest, mud, wet chrysanthemums, and an aunt saying, "I don't want to interfere, but…"On clothes it stays like guilt after a second helping. On the psyche — until the first family conversation about inheritance.Marketing saysProbably something about spiritual journey, mineral, smoke, light, salt, and ancestral memory. They should have written"For people who want to smell like a neglected church during an uncle's funeral, wet wreaths, a priest with a thurible, cemetery mud, and a family crying over the coffin while already mentally dividing grandmother's dinner service."Rating: 10/10I would subtract a point for depression, but I cannot, because this is depression with catering. These are not perfumes. This is a luxurious funeral in a coat, after which you come home, take off your cemetery-muddy shoes, and think: "God, that was ugly… and so beautiful."

This is probably one of the most atmospheric fragrances I’ve smelled from Amouage. What surprised me most is how misleading the note pyramid feels. Looking at the notes, I expected another dense, resinous, incense-heavy Middle Eastern fragrance — something dark, smoky, and traditionally “Amouage.” But this is something entirely different. Lineage smells ethereal: calm, meditative, slightly nostalgic, almost ephemeral. It opens fresh and airy, and almost immediately you get this strange combination of dry sun-bleached woods, soft incense, salty air, algae, and coastal vegetation. Oddly enough, there are no officially listed aquatic or marine notes, yet the fragrance smells undeniably connected to the sea. Not in a fresh blue-aquatic way, but like nature near the coastline. It reminds me of heat-scorched dunes before reaching the beach. Dry grass bending in the wind. Driftwood washed ashore. Pine trees growing on rocky cliffs. Iodine-rich sea air. Salty algae drying along the coastline. And somewhere through all of this, incense quietly drifts like smoke carried by the wind. That contrast is what makes Lineage so fascinating to me: it feels dry and moist at the same time. Woody, almost powdery, mineral, yet also humid and alive. The olibanum is beautiful. The myrrh stays more in the background and is probably responsible for some of the salty earthiness and subtly otherworldly feeling, without ever disturbing the calm atmosphere of the scent. Despite all these moving parts, it never feels loud or heavy. It feels grounding, introspective, and completely unisex. This smells like solitude. Like walking the dunes along the shoreline in a meditative state on a hot day, alone while waves crash in the distance and wind moves through the grass and trees. Salty incense, mineral warmth, and quiet summer meditations

Анонім

This smells ethereal. Gorgeous incense mixed with aquatic notes. Grounding and relaxing. Totally unisex too. The reviews are hilarious: some of the descriptions and associations are completely bizarre, as per usual here on fragrantica. I suspect it’s the incense that people don’t agree with. What Amouage does best is create the most unexpected and beautiful combinations with incense, but it’s not a note that’s palatable for most. Don’t let the negative reviews discourage you from trying Lineage, it’s one of the best in the Amouage lineup.

Анонім

Perhaps the best use of fenugreek I have experienced in a perfume so far. The scent pyramid makes one expect a sharp resinous incense-y fragrance but, almost disappointingly, the olibanum is comparatively subtle, and the myrrh, rather than being dark or earthy, settles with the other ingredients almost powderily upon the skin - herein comes the femininity of the fragrance. A pleasant fragrance for anyone to wear, unisex with a feminine lean, a touch different to what the pyramid would suggest. The fenugreek is definitely interesting and blends very well with the sweet, powdery resins. Doesn't smell savoury to my nose, reminds me of a breakfast dessert from the coastal regions I grew up in. Layering this with an attar of frankincense is delightful, and really the only thing this fragrance is missing, a stronger hit of bright balsamic resins.

Lineage – Amouage Kupiłam Lineage, bo przeczytałam „mineralne, kadzidlane, słone, duchowe, eleganckie”. No i kurwa… dostałam dokładnie to. Projektanci napisali Pewnie coś o duchowej podróży, minerale, dymie, świetle, soli i pamięci przodków.

Slightly musty warm scent that strongly reminds me of walking through a Marrakech spice market. I'm making it sound worse than it is, it smells high quality and the bottle is gorgeous but the savoury cooking spices factor makes it not at all wearable for me. Unfortunately it smells dusty and overpowering to me.

Анонім

For me, this is not a sea scent, but a forest one. Categorical and standing out from the crowd. Generally speaking, it smells like crushed pine needles in an artist's handful - you smell the needles, but you also can smell a little turpentine, seeped from his oil paints. Pine needles and turpentine, warmed somewhere at the end by a drop of blood orange juice (not in the composition), this is my feeling about Lineage. p.p. Unfortunately, it doesn't last as long as it should for Amouage, after an hour and a half it turns into a skin scent.

I got hold of some decants from this house to try as I haven’t for easy access to this brand. I totally blind bought them and asked the seller to pick the scents from her collection to surprise me. This was one of them. This is definitely a spicy heavy on the herb scent style fragrance and a little seems to go a long way I got a lot of longevity from it. I wouldn’t say it was office friendly - it depends on your office - I work in a school and it’s not a fragrance I’d choose to wear there it’s to me more of a going out fragrance. I’d say it leans more on the grown up side. I’ve enjoyed my decant and I’m happy I’ve been able to explore this house but this isn’t one I’ll be upgrading

Loooovee, a non-offensive scent that @dangerouspotato described perfectly. It doesnt last very long but nice for a pool / lounging day. I wear it before bed now too!

Анонім

I like the opening but the rest... it made me think of the likes of Womanity. Something aquatic-mineralic-fishy-odd about this. Totally not what I was expecting since myrrh is mentioned and I bought it pretty much for that.

Анонім

I don’t get the notes, by looking at them I would normally steer clear. To be honest, the notes are a mess and look disgusting. I ended up smelling this in Neiman’s haphazardly and couldn’t get it off my mind. What I get is a fragrance that feels calm but clean. It’s aquatic, but not the fresh water type. If I could describe it by a scene, It smells like deep thoughts drifting through the coast of somewhere far. On a more practical level, this would make a good scent to wear on a summer vacation or brunch or dinner by the water. Definitely more appealing than some of Amouage’s other scents. I can see a man pulling this off too, but it leans a little feminine. Is it blind buy safe?….no. Is it underrated?…yes! It’s worth a try only though discounter of course 🫠

Анонім

The note pyramid doesn't read true to me. I get coconut, frangipani, tuberose, something lactonic. Very creamy and smooth with a slightly tropical vibe, like salt mixed with suntan lotion. Versatile and decidedly feminine. Not as mind-blowing as Opus IX, but still very pleasant. I would love to smell this on a woman. 2 ml decant from scentsplit Edit: There’s an ingenious mix of salty green notes in the top that is addictive. Still wouldn’t wear this on a regular basis, but it’s a very well-crafted perfume.

Анонім

I quite like this one, and the reviews don't do much justice. It's a light mineral/oceanic perfume that blends well with incense. It does remind me of a lunch out in a cruise.

Анонім

Almost a dill pickle note in the opening , then the burnt maply smell from royal tobacco as well. . Possibly fenugreek? Ginger and pepper add some light, spicy freshness to this, it was very needed. Almost has some of that typical 'aquatic' freshness note going on (possibly this is Calone, I've never quite isolated that, might be what people are talking about?) Gets a bit incensy, but this does down quickly and we are left with the aquatic note and a pretty spice free drydown with vetiver. Nice, but not notable. Quite light and fresh. Overall longevity is pretty bad, got through all he above in about 1 hr. Anything that might of been interesting quickly in and out, the development rapid, like being stuff on a very fast people mover to shove you end to end. Skin scent after this much quicker than I would have expect. Pretty well gone at the 4-5 hr mark

Анонім

As others described it's a scent reminiscent of the sea, without being aquatic. It reminds me of a warmer, more smoky Aqua di Sale by Profumum di Roma. Great autumn, winter scent to me, cozy but still reminding you of sunny beaches, without being too sweet.

Анонім

Although aquatic is not in the notes, this certainly has that sea in the bottle. It's warm, it's spicy, even smoky, but it is also very clean, unlike the sea that fragrances like Megamare bring us. Personally I'm not a very big aquatic fan and can't say much about this scent profile, but Lineage might be the best aquatic scent I've ever experienced. As much as I'm reluctant to wear aquatic scents, I would be happy to wear this scent. And it's unisex too.
