Let me start off with DO NOT BLIND BUY THIS. When it arrived I sprayed in the air to smell it and I was getting a slight pickle like note, I honestly didnt even want to spray on skin and put it back in the box and just gonna resell. Then today I finally decided ill do a little sprtiz on skin just to see if it behaves differently (btw I f*cking hate everything about pickles so the smell was a no for me) and I must say it does smell better on skin than in the air and on paper. Its an odd fragrance for sure, how anyone is like you know what I feel like smelling like an oriental pickled peice of wood is beyond me 😆 but to each their own I guess. Yup, just started getting yelled at by the wife for putting that little spritz on 🤣 and I fully understand. If they get rid of whatever is giving this that pickle note this would probably be pretty good. The wood scent is pretty good but its being hidden by pickles unfortunately. Idk if its the Olibanum in it or something else, i dont even know if I should say pickle, its a something that reminds me of pickles not 1:1 pickle. Idk maybe ill keep it another week and try it 1 or 2 more times before it goes on the market.

Bought samples of both this and Purpose 50. Tried 50 earlier today. Honestly, they're extremely similar to my nose, but i guess 50 is a bit creamier (?) For me, i mostly get the vetiver - but kind of mellow. unlike 50, i see even less reason to prefer it over something like Gurlain Vetiver Parfum. Not sure what else it brings to table kind of underwhelming

Amouage is my gateway brand to luxury and niche perfumery. This is my second blind buy and I am not disappointed! The description alone had me clicking 'Add to cart' before I even finished reading it.

Smelling this especially after experiencing purpose 50 feels incredibly underwhelming, i wanted to vote like or even love for this but honestly thats only because i know its full potential and the beauty it can be I wouldn’t recommend this ever even at 40% of the price of the 50 version id still recommend the 50 over this. People saying they like this over 50 are coping in one way or the other

I actually prefer to the Purpose 50. This feels more Sophisticated and just has more Ooomph. The very Spicy Citrus and Fragrant Sandalwood blend here is Elite. That added Contrasting Creamy Rose and Masculine Vetiver makes this so refined. This is such a Stunning Oriental Masculine Fragrance. Longevity is exceptional as usual.

This is another scent from Amouage that transports you to another dimension. There’s nothing like it, and all that Arabian trash you people so eagerly describe as if it were valuable and worth attention - it’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous that you seriously think that £5 Arabian piss is perfume. This scent is a class of its own. Unisex. It’s like putting on a coat made of the finest camel wool and cashmere. The kind you buy for years to come. It’s like a bare face without makeup that just glows with health. Wonderful, mysterious, and luxurious.

I received a 2ml decant of this as part of a larger decant shipment. I think it's well-blended and very interesting and hypernuclear for the first hour+ but after a couple of hours that sandalwood comes out and takes over imo and sandalwood absolutely disgusts me and here it gives sweaty uncle and damn is it tenacious. Gave up dawn and a scrub brush and jest decided to burn off my dermis over the stove. This one is a no fu3k1ng way for me. But you'll absolutely love it if you enjoy sandalwood (just keep the f away from me).

Wow... this is a serious. A heavy green forest covered with dry grass and musk. The scent almost enters the room before you do and lasts forever. This definitely isn't an everyday fragrance. It feels more like an experience than something you casually wear to work. It demands the right mood and the right occasion. Very interesting composition and unlike anything else I own. I'll definitely need more wearings before deciding

That’s how an ancient Aztec temple must have smelled like. It gives off Indiana jones or tomb raider vibes. To me there is some progression but if you are looking for a huge story telling with massive transitions, that’s not it. Starts with a beautiful frankincense and then becomes a very dry smoky vetiver. To people saying amouage has become a mass appealing house, purpose proves them wrong. Love him or hate him, Bisch is a brilliant perfumer and he has proved himself once again. Much prefer this over purpose 50. I don’t by any means find this to be a beast fragrance whatsoever. Beautiful

Smells like a pencil with a sweet ambery note and a ton of woods Not the thing I was hoping to smell from amouage The moment I smelt this I removed it from my list. It is not a bad fargrance But it is not going well with me . And not the thing I was expecting (I only smelt it on papers not on skin So it might be different if I applied it to myself )

Анонім

Needs the right weather and the right occasion. A bit too mature for me, but I can appreciate it.

When I first smelled this I have to admit I did not like it. As time went on I liked it more. I am now on my second vile and going to buy a full bottle. It is a true masterpiece but may take some time to truly appreciate. It has crazy performance easily lasting 24 hours.

Amouage's Purpose has an almost legendary status in fragrance as being, along with the Interlude twin peaks, amongst their strongest and most potent offerings. I tried it in earnest yesterday lunchtime and almost 24 hours, one gym session and two showers later it is still very much here with me. How? Nope, I don't understand how either. It opens with a green, aromatic texture set against some black pepper, and the olibanum starts to creep in after ten minutes or so. The saffron in the heart is toe-curlingly good if you can pick it out and it goes to the metallic edge of the aromatics. There is some suede and some woody notes in the base that also play on the same almost minerally edge of the aromatics. The effect is quite astonishingly airy. It has the vibe of ozonic, greeny, camphoracious aromatic plants, redolent of garden centres in Europe if you get the olfactory reference. But with suede, pimento peppers, creamy sandalwood and sweet incense. How? Nope, I don't understand how either. Once again we see Quentin Bisch handling challenging and difficult notes with his trademark deft touch to make something that shouldn't work but it does. In some ways that is echoed in the wearability: Massive, powerful, earthy fragrances like this conceptually shouldn't work as a daily wearer but Purpose does. How? Nope, I don't understand how either. I often find myself trying new Amouages and being dumbfounded at how good they are, and then again when they drydown and so it is here as the incense warms up and changes the character like a filter. I'm not especially keen on bitter or heavy green aromatics generally, or actually on incense as a central accord unless done really well, so I'm as surprised as you to be saying that this is every bit as easy to wear as Decision, Reflection or even Jubilation as daily driver. How? Nope, I don't understand how either. I do know I absolutely love this. It is just an astonishingly good, truly unmissable bit of niche perfumery. Three Word Summary: Aromatic Woody Magnificence Layering suggestion: A single spray of Holysm by Xerjoff over the top of a Purpose base layer to lean into the ultra-niche aromatics. Outfit Suggestion: I'd wear this to work. So chinos, suede Chelsea boots, white shirt, cashmere sweater and Tom Ford glasses. This isn't for scruffs. Scent: 10/10 Drydown - 10/10 Sillage - 9/10 Bottle/packaging - 8/10 Performance - 10/10 47/50

Smells exactly like how i imagine shrek would. If you like it, then go for it by all means. Not for me. SAMPLE FIRST.

I actually prefer this to purpose 50, & I now understand a little more why purpose 50 is more popular, that being: purpose 50 is more mass-appealing than the original. The original is more raw, more earthy, & less sweet. Obviously though, purpose 50 does have better performance, much higher oil concentration & the cooler bottle & box design. This is an amazing fragrance, 9.5/10.

This is in my top 3 Amouage (Amouage is actually plural in Arabic) of all time. I know it's a modern release, but one that carries the identity of the real Amouage House like badge of honor. I prefer this way way more than its Purpose 50 flanker. Elegant: Woods, resins, vetiver, and an incredible mix of Mystical gum and rose to round off the edges of the papyrus. You don't smell the rose, it's a catalyst rather than a note. From the new age Amouage releases, it's this one and Decision. Purpose is a year round scent, except daytime in summer, but please dress well for this one, it's not casual at all, no Amouage is for that matter.

I had been waiting to experience Purpose for a very long time. Not because of the hype, but because a brief encounter with Purpose 50 at an airport months ago left an unforgettable impression in my memory. Today I finally met the original. The first thing that came to mind was the lobby of a truly luxurious hotel in Dubai or Doha. Quiet luxury. Expensive materials. Polished stone. Warm wood. Nothing flashy, yet everything feels refined. The opening is dominated by vibrant spicy pepper wrapped in magnificent Omani frankincense. It feels sharp, but never aggressive. Then comes the surprise. As the fragrance settles, it transforms into something greener and creamier. The woods become smoother, the frankincense becomes softer, and a beautifully damp vetiver slowly appears. It feels natural, elegant and incredibly well balanced. What fascinated me the most is that Purpose doesn't seem interested in impressing you immediately. It invites you to slow down. Interestingly, I could already recognize the DNA that had captivated me in Purpose 50. Not the entire story, but clearly its roots. This is only my first day with the fragrance, and I already have the feeling that I have just finished reading the introduction of a very long and beautiful book.

During my first spray, straight up, this is very spicy, and veeeery WOODY fragrance. Like straight up intense smell of WOOD. Imagine this, you're watching a carpenter doing their thing with some woods to make furniture or making some wooden planks. That's what I imagine it smells like. Slightly sweet in there but not much. It's quite airy, and dry but to be honest this is not really my kind of fragrance. But I can see myself liking this on someone else as I asked a friend of mine to wear it a bit and yea, smells better on him. It is really strong however, survived few washes. I'd rate this maybe 6.5/10. You either will like this fragrance, or you're gonna hate it. For me myself, I'm In between. Luckily I only bought samples because I don't see myself wearing this. It's very challenging. After awhile, my nose is getting used to this, It is quite nice and complex fragrance actually, but it still kinda giving me a slight headache due to the intensity of it.

Okay. Sniffing the atomizer, you get this slightly sweet, woody aspect. Like freshly sprayed Cedar chips or naked furniture, and Poppy. However, immediately after spraying it on my skin, it's pure papyrus and herbs. It almost smells like Mrs Dash for Grilling. Dried herbs. Nothing sweet. All parchment paper, herbal. Poultry seasoning? It seriously smells like you'd bake or grill chicken with it. Like a chicken Brine. I personally can only see this for layering, to spice up a sweeter fragrance. Layer with Guidance, Hundred Silent Ways, Valaya Exclusif, even Gris Charnel. I sprayed it on one arm, and Lineage on the other, and my partner liked the combo in the air. But that still says it smells better in company of a sweeter fragrance.

This is a hall of fame perfume to me. Describing purpose to someone who hasn’t smelled it is nearly impossible, as it’s so complex. Think of the dryness and spiciness of a barbecue rub, and mix that with some waxy papyrus and a dark rose. It is so unapologetically dark, complex, and unforgiving. I love love love amouage and I love challenging perfumes, and even purpose took me a good month before I understood and enjoyed it. I will purchase a bottle very very soon. This feels extremely “amouage” to me in the way that it’s creative and daring. One of the best releases of the last couple years.

Another Quentin Bisch's masterpiece. Fact. Not everyones cup of tea but works for me all year round, day and night. It's a 9/10 from me.

Quentin Bisch is a genius

Like Purpose 50 minus the rose. It's spikier and sharper, but it dries down to the same result; namely, an expensive-smelling soap. Greener than the extait. There's a lifting, steamy, sauna-like quality that reminds me of Zoologist King Cobra. Unfortunately, there's something in the drydown that doesn't quite work for my nose. That said, if you're in the market for an expensive-smelling soapy-fresh scent that doesn't include the hordes of blue fragrances, Purpose is worth trying. Yes, P50 is objectively better, but it's not necessarily worth the extra cost.

After more than 20y in this hobby I still can't digest what I've tried. As someone who loves Kouros and the ones from Amouage like Overture and Gold, I can just say: what is this? Who wants to put this on him? This is a terrible creation, to me the worst Amouage. This is only incense and only incense. Disgusting.

Professional Fragrance Assessment – Amouage Purpose Amouage Purpose is one of the most artistically accomplished releases from Amouage in recent years. Rather than focusing on mass appeal, it aims to create an emotional and contemplative experience through the use of frankincense, woods, spices, and earthy vetiver. Strengths Exceptional quality of raw materials and blending. A sophisticated interpretation of frankincense that feels modern rather than traditionally Middle Eastern. Strong projection and excellent longevity. Distinctive character that stands out in a market saturated with sweet ambers and generic woody fragrances. Suitable for executives, collectors, and individuals seeking a signature scent with depth and individuality. Potential Drawbacks Not a crowd-pleaser in the conventional sense. The incense and earthy facets may feel challenging to those accustomed to fresh, aquatic, or sweet designer fragrances. Better appreciated by fragrance enthusiasts than by casual perfume users. Image & Personality Purpose conveys: Confidence without aggression. Maturity and self-awareness. Intellectual and artistic sophistication. Quiet luxury rather than overt wealth. It is the olfactory equivalent of a tailored dark suit, a private library, or a contemporary art gallery—refined, thoughtful, and intentionally understated. Overall Rating Category Rating Originality 9.5/10 Quality of Ingredients 9.5/10 Longevity 9/10 Projection 8.5/10 Versatility 7.5/10 Artistic Value 10/10 Overall 9.2/10 For someone with an entrepreneurial, international, and luxury-oriented profile, Purpose is less a fragrance and more a statement of identity. It projects substance, culture, and confidence rather than status alone. It is one of the strongest choices in the current Amouage collection for a mature professional seeking distinction rather than attention.

Expensive, yes - but absolute masterpiece! It encapsulates all my favorite notes in one perfect blend, being very versatile as well. Fresh, spicy, incensy, airy. Out of this world scent. Plus the performance and quality of the ingredients are amazing, as usual with Amouage frags.

I find this to be a deeply meditative, grounding, spiritual scent. It is rich, deep, mentholated and intense. Beautiful mix of resin, spices, woods and something almost zingy. It’s a punch in the face for sure but a meaningful one. Like a good friend telling you what you need to hear not what you want to hear.
