Far Away

I've used this perfume since I was little, my grandmother would always gift me boxes and it has been my favourite perfume since. I love the sweet vanilla scent its so creamy its like smelling slightly sweet hot milk and the steam fogs your nose, this perfume is so autumnal and creates the perfect cozy atmosphere in any room. I love you far away !!!

To me, this perfume opens with strong herbal notes and a hint of soap. After a while, it transforms into a sweet vanilla scent. The longevity isn't very good on my skin, and it has a distinctly vintage character

Outside the US and UK, Far Away now comes in a bottle which is like that of the flankers (Shine, Infinity, Glamour, etc.). I don't know if there are any differences smell-wise between the plump or flat bottles, but I am reviewing a flat one as such circa 2025. Now this has some differences to the vintage (the original frosty bottle). Far Away opens up far more fruitier with a distinctive plum note... I don't see plum listed in the notes, so I don't know exactly what is going on here, but I can say that some original notes are definitely replaced with substitutes (thanks to the reformulations) which explains the difference. Jasmine and vanilla seem a bit subdued now, overall though it is still Far Away but with a different (rather fruity) aura. Far Away is one of the best representations of an unapologetic dirty vanilla in my view. It is still so... Longevity and sillage seem fine to me as well. I also bought the body lotion. It smells lighter and far less scented now... In fact, the Far Away signature seems to quickly dissipate after application and you are left with some light generic lotiony scent which could have been anything than Far Away... I find the softening and moisturizing performance good though.

Over the hills, ...and Far Away. Like Butterfly, Casmir, Wish, etc. Avon's original Far Away (1994) is another early pioneer from the explosion of quasi-gourmand scents that followed quickly on the heels of Mugler's Angel in the Nineties. So was of its time, or before its time? Either way, still worth seeking out today, if intrigued by gourmands with historic grandeur. Sweet coconut, vanillic ambre-santal, osmanthus, peach, and a plethora of white florals: gardenia, jasmine, tuberose, ylang-ylang ...even a claim to Karo Karounde! (Leptactina senegambica), so very complexly white floral indeed. Yet Far Away's whole formula is also a near-gourmand, done up like a bon-bon, with each fruity and floral nuance played as the candied version of that note. ...And clearly, some, like violet, are coated in a cloud of powdered sugar. If Angel is an older sibling, then La Vie Est Belle is an unacknowledged stepchild. I sample here from a bottle of unknown age. Both the bottle and cap sport a sigmoid midline, like the Tai Chi (Yin & Yang). The cap is black and pink.

I think its called Far Away because you need to keep it far away from your nose

discusting, extremely warm, theres no smoke but it i get a burnoing vibe from it, also reminds me of spirits with tons of seweet spices mixed in, not fruity vanilla anyway its my fault i didnt read enough reviews of this before gettign 10ml

this is currently the only perfume i wear on a night out due to it's strength. it makes me feel quite elegant though i honestly don't smell a lot of the fruitiness. to me it smells more so like a spicy floral that shrouds you in mystery (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)

Bought my 2nd bottle of Far Away off of Vinted, because I refuse to buy the newly designed one. Ugly. But the scent is absolutely signature worthy for a Y2K perfume affectionato like me. I love it. Not as much as other scents though, and I have found my signature, but this is one I keep in my purse. Although it has tropical-ish facets, it works the best in early autumn weather, very nostalgic for the summer that passed too fast.

Shocked that this fragrance is so polarizing. I sampled a deeply macerated bottle and found it to smell like coconut and spiced peaches. Reminds me greatly of the markets of Marrakech— the smell of so many different kinds of incense and spices from the booths in the air. Great for colder weather, and does begin to fade to a scent much more understated within the 2-3 hour mark.

I love this scent. I have it in the clear, cylindrical 15ml bottle, and it's a very juicy, deep orange color. It smells like a vacation, a trip to a faraway land, but I wouldn't say it's 'tropical' in the traditional sense, or similar to sunscreen. It reminds me of delicious candied peaches, of a super sweet wine spritzer, but with this backbone of powdery vanilla and coconut that makes it very irresistable to me. Somehow, it's not overly sweet at all. It can go for all seasons and times of day, any age and any outfit, in my opinion. I just want to bury my face in it. When I first smelled it, I thought 'This is so me! This is how I was always supposed to smell!'

urgh i had this years and years and years ago, and it was nauseating. very sweet, i got hints of spice, it smelled very oriental and off putting to me. that is why i havent touched that stuff in years, and actually donated my bottle anyway it s very potent, and lasts forever

Found this at goodwill, and I don't know how long it had been sitting there but it smelt really really bad. I won't drop a "hate" or a dislike on this because I think it's just the age of the bottle. To describe the scent, it smelt like the smell you get when you wash a dirty dog and drain the water giving you a whiff. It smelt terrible. If I could time travel and give it a second chance I totally would! But at the moment I still don't like it. Also btw I accidently broke the bottle in the store and ran away from it LOL!

I found a vintage bottle for $5 at an antique shop in South Carolina and bought it on a whim, because who can beat $5? I'm pretty sure my Nana must have wore this at some point in my life because upon spraying it for the first time I got an overwhelming impression of one of her hugs. This was a very bittersweet reaction as she passed away in 2012.

When I first tried this years ago it stank horrifically. I HATED it, easily the worst perfume I had smelled casually before getting into fragrances and expanding. Fast forward to today, I smelled the bottle again for the first time in years and it didn't smell as bad. I sprayed it, and instantly remembered why this is terrible. For reference, I have the 10ml purse spray and it's an orange colour. This is honestly so bad, the only way to describe it is that it smells like really bad aftershave. It's an offensive spice. A nasty sour peach and bitter orange is all I can really pick up from the notes at first and then it slowly turns into pure flowers but with spice. I get absolutely no vanilla from this myself. It is somewhat nostalgic though, it smells somewhat reminiscent to a relative's house in Portugal. After seeing the Turkish review it does smell like this perfume feels more suited for people in the Middle East or otherwise Hispanic countries and Portugal. Definitely not English or Germanic but that's my own opinion. Avoid this. Please. Far Away Beyond is much better.

An utterly beautiful fragrance. I remember encountering it many years ago, and it left a lasting impression—it was, without a doubt, the most stunning scent I had ever experienced. There’s something irresistibly warm, comforting, and quietly captivating about it. A true top-shelf gem that will always stay with me.

Oh my God, I was not expecting this to smell this bad. It smells nauseating. My nose mostly picks up the orange, peach and flowers when first sprayed then I get the base notes in the worst way possible. It smells like nostalgia but in a way that you are sitting with your relatives and your aunt who sweated a lot and did not put on a deodorant is hugging you and is wearing a very heavy commercial perfume. This perfume smells too much like sweat for me for some reason. I hate it. But I have not seen another comment mentioning so it might be a me problem. It starts smelling a bit better when the top notes are gone. My mom used to have a bottle of this and I do not remember this smelling nauseating but maybe they changed the formula or my nose buds have changed. But after many hours when only the base notes are left, i can almost smell the beautiful nostalgic far away perfume my mom used to wear.

Far Away, it’s like a person full of character; outspoken, loud and proud. Many people will hate that person for lacking political correctness, but a few will love such attitude for being a breath of air of old school candidness amidst a sea of fakeness. The scent, to my nose, is mainly a warm coconut-vanilla mixed with yellow florals, and powdery musk. I can also sense some syrupy peach and creamy gardenia. It is initially in your face, but calms down to a tolerable scent bubble. It is the winter and autumn fragrance that will transfer you to a tropical island. Although it’s an Avon perfume, it is so unique and recognizable on other people.

Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood with a hint of coconut makes for a nauseating, sickly sweet, very dated scent that I find smells quite cheap on me. Scents are different on every person but this one is a scrubber - it really makes me feel physically sick when I put it on.

My bottle is frosted with a red cap. I have to say, this isn't as good as it used to be. A was a rich, opulent floral with warm vanilla and amber in the drydown. This is just a shadow. It still smells good but not even close to what it was.

My first bottle of this was the old frosted one (around 2013). It was the best perfume I had smelt in my life. I wore it every single day, its scent engulfed my every waking hour. It made me feel...like myself. I bought a bottle again in 2021...it was nothing like the perfume i had once loved so dearly. The new version was less...opulent, less vanillic, less woody, more fruity. Something told me to not lose hope though. Fast forward to 2025 and the perfume of that same bottle, now somewhat resembles the old version, as the vanilla and sandalwood have deepened. Needless to say I'm afraid to purchase it ever again from what I see in the reviews below. I don't know what they've done, but far away, as we knew and loved it, seems to be gone.

Bleahh. Smelling this = a shot of rum. Heavy, way too alcoholic, sickening, old fashioned.. basically everything that they wrote in the 'cons' list, I agree with. I gues the positive is that it stays on and has sillage, but not a safe blind buy, my nose hairs are fried.

I have a newer mini of this and it is so delicious and it’s mostly a tropical watermelon with a hint of coconut milk & ylang ylang. I have an older vintage bottle and it smells NOTHING like the newer one. The old one brought me back to 1998 when my friend’s grandma would pick us up after school, bring us to her house & give us chips ahoy cookies to eat while we watched cartoons. She definitely wore this exact perfume. The coconut blended with vanilla is overwhelmingly sweet yet strangely comforting, with some very powerful violet and freesia & rich base notes reminiscent of Karl Lagerfeld‘s Sun moon stars. I love it for what it is but could never pull it off. I’ll wear the newer bottle in spring and summer though.

I blind bought this perfume due to the interesting scent profile. Thank god I only bought a tiny sampler. This is the first time I got angry with the perfume. I actually gagged smelling it. That activated some sort of anger in me and I threw this stuff away as if I was throwing a dead rat away. I found it horrible. What I found horrible was this sickly sweet peach and coconut combination in this perfume. It's so strong that it is all that I can smell and nothing else. It's so sweet that I had a gag reflex to it. I sprayed it on a sheet of paper and I was very much trying to come back to it, giving it another chance. But even coming back to this sheet of paper and smelling it again, made me gag again. This sweet coconut and peach overtone didn't disappear. It felt like it even become stronger and more prominent after a while. It's that kind of perfume which would made me feel uncomfortable if I had to stay in a room with a person, who wears it. If I sat in a bus and a person with this perfume would sit next to me I would have to stand up and leave. I have that strong of a reaction to it. I'm so sorry for this. I really don't want to dislike someone perfume so much that I have to run away from it, but unfortunately this stuff gives me an actual physical reaction. It's not just a dislike of personal taste, it's an actual gag/vomit reflex.

I am a 26 year old flight attendant and I recently started wearing this regularly. I own a lot of brands but this far away got me the most compliments at work so far. It's heavy but not offensive. It's a classic for a reason. Feeling cozy

Far away is a nice Uber powdery vanilla. She's great for everyday wear in cool weather.

Today I checked Far Away shelf in Avon store, they changed the bottle for a simple ugly low budget one 😟 so disappointing. Was considering to buy a bottle, but with a new design, that idea disappeared

I've had Far Away for awhile now and I recently pulled it out because I hadn't worn it for some time. I had forgotten how nice and cozy this one is. It's a pretty, fluffy, prominent vanilla that feels like a warm hug on a chilly day. Instead of smelling dated to me, I actually think that this could pass for being in the viral Lattafa Yara line. In fact, if it was packaged as a Yara I think this one would be going viral, too. Far Away has decent longevity and moderate to strong projection depending on how many sprays that you use. Very affordable, too.
