Sweet, jammy plum and a hint of dense, syrupy peach open this fragrance. The leather here is soft and sweet, and the combination of fruit and leather is surprisingly delicious without ever smelling gourmand. It's distinctive, mellow, and rich. The name fits perfectly. It evokes a stately library with leather-bound books and worn leather armchairs. Perhaps someone smoked a sweet tobacco pipe in here in the not-too-distant past, or the vanilla-tinged pipe smoke has simply absorbed into some of the tomes and plush carpets over time. The room is quiet, elegant, and dressed in deep jewel tones... heavy curtains, mahogany wood, expensive art. A whisper of violet lingers in the background, alongside quiet musk and patchouli. I like this fragrance, but I don't necessarily want to wear it. Still, it's intriguing and undeniably attractive. I can absolutely imagine this as a cozy winter scent. The kind that wraps you in a cashmere cloud and gives the wearer a gentle hug. Another one I'll happily revisit when the days are short and the weather turns cold.
Smells very strange at first. The opening is strong and unusual, but after a while it transforms into the scent of old book pages, wood, and leather...like picking up a leather-bound book and flipping through its pages, creating a little breeze filled with that dry, papery smell. The floral notes come out later, but to my nose they have a slightly plasticky quality. I wouldn't wear it personally, but I have to admit it really does capture the feeling of being in a library.
VERY floral to me
From the decanted sample vial it smelled, I'm not sure. Like a workshop of some kind? Not necessarily enjoyable, but still intriguing enough to my partner for us to try. (1 Aug 2026) On the back of her hand, it smells fruity, and then gentle and sweet (like a nice person) and calm. It's also sweet flavour, but it's a very subtle gentle sweet, not a cloying sweet. "Like a soft summer night where you're in a city but it's a lot of greenery around. And it's quiet, not many cars. It's DEEP in the night". I rate it a 3.5/5 for how it smells on her, she gives it a 4/5 on herself. It's calm, sleepy, meditative. Granted, it's late and she was napping before this so she wonders if it's "mixing with her sleepy mood". It's put her on a loop: she's sleepy, she smells this, it's so calm and gentle it makes her sleepier, and so on. To me she smells like a gentle old grandpa librarian, makes me feel safe. About a half hour or maybe 45 mins in it smells a little more spicy, maybe smoky? But still very gentle. Still sweet old grandpa, but he's gonna... chop some wood for the fireplace. I don't know. But very cozy. On the back of my hand it smells sweet, and somehow a sharpness?? (Or is the sharpness a bleed over from another scent on my fingertips? Let me go wash my fingers). I'm not sure, but I'm not a huge fan. It makes me feel like a "little girl" and between gender stuff and childhood stuff it wasn't a nice feeling. A brief 10-12 minutes later it smells... better, more "alive". It's sharp and awake. It's a 2.5/5 on me for myself, but veering towards 2 as it's making me feel tense. Another 10 minutes later and it smells different again, more "grown up" and I like it. Perhaps it's the leather, though I'd have thought it would have taken longer to show up. Then almost an hour later it smells gentle and calm, closer to what it smelled on my partner. I smell... gentle sweet musk? This gently sweet leather/musk smells nice, I'm a fan of these base notes but like the Hiris am not a huge fan of what it took to get here. A half hour later it's still strong, but I get some spice (patchouli?). Am wearing the Hiris on the other hand which has settled in, but the Biblioteque still stands out. It's still Alive. At some point I make my way to bed but can't sleep. I realize the scent is keeping me awake. It's "too dynamic", both aggravating and intriguing so I wash it off to be able to sleep. I will revisit this during the daytime on another day instead of sampling it at night. ___ Edit, 4 Aug: wore it during the day, in left elbow. Got a fruity opening which I was not a fan of (maybe I just don't like sweet fruit accords on me) and again was very dynamic and varied on my arm through the day. Didn't mind so much tho, I think it helped me work. So this is very much a daytime sit-at-desk focused scent for me.
you know whos signature scent this was? Epstein. Thats all i need to know
another stunning fragrance from Byredo. thought those notes wouldn't work together, but boy, do they blend like a dream. to the wishlist this one goes!
For months ive been sniffing this thing. Every time I go into a shop and they have byredo I sniff bibliothèque and contemplate whether or not to buy it. I caved and bought it, finally, however to my surprise it smells different. In stores bibliothèque smells very sweet, like a fresh juicy pear with an assortment of fruits (I know pear isn't in the notes I don't care). However, now the opening is way more smokier and leather-y. Still settles into a sweet fragrance but the leather is more pronounced... I think I'll let this fragrance marinate and hopefully it starts to smell a bit more like the in store testers.
Bibliothèque is pure elegance in a bottle. The opening feels like walking into a luxurious library filled with old books, soft leather, and ripe peaches. As it dries down, the powdery violet and warm vanilla create an incredibly comforting yet sophisticated aura. It's unique, artistic, and effortlessly chic—one of those fragrances that leaves a lasting impression without trying too hard. Absolutely beautiful.
For me, Byredo is up there with Penhaligon’s as my favourite niche houses. Adore this perfume. The plum is subtle to my nose but unmistakable. As it dries down the woody, musky accords take over making what starts leaning feminine become far more masculine. 8/10
It really is like a dusty old library. I blind bought this as I love violet fragrances but this is too leathery and too vintage for my taste. It was like opening a very dusty old book in a old library near a vase of violets
Turns out the old ladies on commuter trains are big fans of BYREDO. I haven't smelled anything so repulsive in ages. The plum overpowers absolutely everything. And they describe this as a 'classy library'. What a fucking joke. But over time, it tones down and becomes at least somewhat wearable
this has much brighter fruity notes than i was expecting. i was intimidated seeing leather in the list of notes but i think it tempers things without being too excessive. i get the florals and something reminiscent of tea. going to save the rest of my sample for the fall because i think it’ll shine even more then!
Almost smells like a light sparkly rose with some musk, decent but not better options from Byredo is available
Smells like a candle. Waxy, cheap, and gross.
That’s close to Gucci Rush the red one , it’s just smoother a little bit, when I smelled it for the first time I said I know this ..
Smells strongly of nail polish remover to me
it’s fine. soft, sweet and slightly tart plump with a bit of ruggedness added by the leather. i just don’t think it stands out. also this was allegedly jeffrey epstein’s signature scent so maybe there’s something waiting in the divine for me for disliking it before finding that out
It's sickly sweet and a little harsh. It does not evoke the library, nor old books, except in the faintest undertones. It's dominant them is sweet plum and some leather. Cloying. Meh. 4.5/10, and I might give it a lower rating, but I would certainly not increase it.
One of my coziest go-to perfumes. Smells like spending a summer with my Soviet granny, full of hopes for the bright future
I was expecting this to evoke some sort of cosy library feeling. Unfortunately, to me, this could only smell like the library's hardwood floors right after they'd been mopped with bleach. It's very jarring and excessively clean. It opens with a blatant "clean smell" floral note that is not bibliotequesque at all. Then it becomes strangely spicy and very, very floral. I also don't get the powdery notes people are talking about. I don't love it, it was a mess to me.
I’m not typically sensitive to perfumes but this one gave me a headache. Really lovely deep plum. Just be careful with over spraying!
Wanted to get it, but I've heard epstein wore it... 🤢
Smells pretty much like the name entails... It's like stepping into a library full of old books. Very interesting! I have to be in the mood to wear this.
A fragrance that seems to carry its own temperature. Warm, soft, slightly powdery. It doesn’t enter the scene with energy it spreads slowly, like the scent of a room closed for years suddenly coming back to life. The opening is fruity, but immediately wrapped in something darker. Plum emerges with a deep, velvety sweetness, never bright or playful. Around it, woods, leather, and an almost papery nuance create an atmosphere that feels highly distinctive and difficult to mistake for anything else. The more time passes, the more intimate the fragrance becomes. The fruity aspect gradually fades, leaving behind a soft ambered sensation, with that dry undertone that truly recalls an old library: worn books, fine dust, warm light filtering through windows. The sillage is elegant and well balanced. On my skin, longevity is very good easily exceeding seven hours with a constant presence that never becomes excessive. It’s one of those fragrances you continue to catch in subtle waves throughout the day. The character is sophisticated and introspective, with a very understated sensuality. It remains perfectly unisex, although the fruity and velvety facets may lean differently depending on the skin. I see it as a perfect fragrance for colder seasons, especially in the evening or during quieter moments, when its intimate atmosphere can fully emerge. Here, Byredo creates something that goes beyond simply being a “pleasant fragrance.” It creates an environment, a very precise feeling almost cinematic. And when a fragrance can evoke such vivid imagery without ever becoming heavy… it rarely goes unnoticed.
I feel like there are more memorable sense out there… This one after the dry down has too much floral for me. Like a dusty Rose. Commodity book or paper are much better. Lattafa has quite a few fragrances that gave me more of what I was looking for if I was thinking about a library.
The opening is overpowered by the plum and peach and then the heart notes it smells floral now and the base notes you will smell Vanilla and leather for me its a good byredo fragrance Longevity 4-7 hours Projection 1-3 feet Overall Its a good fragrance from byredo
initial thoughts: chewing bubblegum, reading a dusty old bible. plum comes through like crazy. 4 hours into wear - leather gone, peony, plum and peach leading the way. old bible has left the chat i had tested this on paper only prior to this wear test - the scent seemed infinite on paper; i could smell it in my room for days after the fact. on skin, i got a good 5 hours or so out of it. projection was low. this is a lot sweeter on the skin than i was expecting it to be. overall an enjoyable fragrance, but won't be a purchase ill be making
Initially hated it when I smelled this in the Byredo store. However, after taking a sample vial home am completely enamored by it. To me it smells like guava lip smackers stored in in a leather purse. Maybe it's the fruity and powdery notes that give it a cosmetic vibe, but it feels so nostalgic. The leather and spiciness of patchouli ground it in cozy intrigue. Very pretty scent but still being balance and a little gritty.
nice and does smells library adjacent, has that leather book spine smell when settles
if anyone wants a bottle lmk for offers or trades (eu only pls)
