Smells like dried leaves and incense if you're into that.
If you’ve ever smelled Johnson’s Baby Cologne, well this is straight up dupe! Opens up refreshing, cool citrus note that dries down to a green/blue aquatic scent. I received a free mini from Macy’s after purchasing Mojave Ghost Absolu. I was not impressed. Byredo is hit or miss, but the projection does not last for me unless it’s Extrait level.
I thought I liked this for the past month but I just got a whiff of PROSCIUTTO after the dry down and I’m mad af bruh I can’t not smell prosciutto now
As people have hopefully pointed out, it is water. Perhaps it is due to my taste not being as exquisite as it should be, but I cannot say this scent lived up to expectations. Definitely did get a whiff of pepper and lemon with the woody base. Otherwise, this scent is overrated and too expensive for spraying toilet air freshener up your a**. Goes without saying that I couldn't smell or remember it well within an hour.
Strong juniper and bergamot top notes, the pepper blends them quite nicely. the incense and pine smell is a lovely bridge with vanilla for a dash of sweetness. amber base nicely settles it all in. sits very close to the skin and does not last very long which is disappointing for such a high price.
for this price point its def not worth it but its a nice fragrance (tho idk if untrained noses would agree - a girl in school that came by me audibly said "who sprayed the toilet air freshener in here" and i was about to crash out) if i close my eyes and smell this idk why but i immediately picture cold granulated silver
At first sniff, I immediately recognized Eau Duelle, which I wear every day in winter. However, unlike Eau Duelle, I detect an overpowering, almost burnt, pepper note and an intrusive vanilla; the vanilla stands out, but in an unpleasant way, distorted by the pepper when the lemon and bergamot are totally absent. It is a scent that, if you aren't actively choosing to smell it, can very quickly become unpleasant or even cloying. Fortunately, the longevity and sillage aren't particularly strong; still, if you dislike the fragrance, it could easily give you a headache—bad enough to make you want to jump in the shower.
Well, gypsy water. The water part describes it quite literally. Virtually almost no smell. Barely any. Such a disappointment and such a high price point.. if I'm gonna spend 2 to $300 on a fragrance, I better at least be able to smell it for a little while. really unimpressed.. truly this is a fragrance for suckers.. trying to smell something that's really not there..
Gorgeous fragrance but too expensive for every day wear. It lasts a long time on my skin and projects well
I always wear it when I want to smell sophisticated, clean and elegant. This is pure elegance in a bottle, not in old-fashioned way, but in modern and minimalistic way. Very, very chic. I don't understand the comments about how it leans towards masculine fragrances. No fucking way. On my skin, it smells like sweet, creamy citrus, I can't smell any masculine note in it.
I adore this fragrance, just wish it lasted longer on my skin (I would estimate ~4hrs.) There is nothing like it.
Really don't get the hype on this one, and disliked it, perhaps due to incense and Iso E Super. Weirdly enough, I like this scent in the shower gel format.
kanye wears it. he knows the ball
An incredible fragrance. On my skin it lasts around 7–8 hrs. I absolutely love the lemon and woody notes in it.
The name couldn't be more accurate: the opening is "gypsy" (I like it), but the rest of it is "water" (terrible performance). The dry-down is another sandalwood/vanilla combo: easy to like, and a crowd-pleaser. This is the scent of the nocturnal mystical woman who is forced to socialize, and she is trying to "merge" during daytime. I'm on my second decant, and I reapply several times throughout the day to experience the opening: it's fresh and comforting. I would love the orris root to be more prominent (or buttery, or at least recognizable) and the vanilla to be toned down (yes, more).
Was wearing a dupe of this for almost a year on and off and had no idea- Nomad Oasis by Primark. Anyway, I sprayed a sample of this I got years ago and realized theyre identical, I was happy because the primark perfume lasts barely 2 minutes. I've been wearing the sample and really like it- considering buying a small bottle or a travel size . It's creamy and clean. A lot of perfumes with sandalwood immediately read overly pungent to me- this doesn't. It opens smokey in my opinion- almost like a sugared scent mixed with smoke. Its kind of weird but grows on you throughout the day. I've heard of people complaining about longevity but it lasts on my skin, it wont project after a while but I could still smell it when I bring my wrist to my nose. Either way, if you enjoy clean scents but want something with an edge- this is a good one. It's popular for a reason but I never smell it on others, so it feels moderately unique compared to todays overly pungent favorites like Bacaraat Rouge 540, YSL Black Opium, Santal (yuck- immediate gag, I wish i liked them but they make me nauseous)
Wow I have really fallen in love with the fragrance in the past few weeks. We’ve had a heat wave where I live and G Water is the only fragrance I’ve been able to tolerate. I struggle not to take a deep breath, inhaling straight perfume, when I spray this on because it truly smells like a breath of fresh, cool air. To me this is a luxurious weekend spent in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Absolutely beautiful composition. Do I wish it lasted longer? Of course, especially for the price point but I will say that for me, on freshly moisturized skin, I can get about 4 hours of wear out of this one, still not great, but not terrible. It’s a trade off I’m willing to take for one of the most gorgeous scents I own.
If you love GW, but find it very gentle, you can try British niche brand, Society of Alchemists. It’s a York based brand, enjoying somewhat out of this world image (think black walls with golden magic signs). Their Familiars seem to smell, well, familiar. SOA doesn’t make dupes, it’s a niche brand tapping into the market with their own ideas 👍 I find it interesting 😊
I am getting familiar with Byredo perfumes and this is my 2nd perfume from this brand after Bal d’Afrique. I really like citrus notes in it. It has a poor longevity, but this is what I was looking for a hot summer. I am thinking later to buy the same in oil version and to layer them together for better longevity
psa: it’s available at COSTCO (!) for $205 :D edit: so is Delina and a bunch of Margiela and Creed, hell yeah
Day two of trying Byredo's sample kit. This time it's Gypsy Water. I wish I could give it a proper review but despite four sprays I can hardly discern anything. Same as with Bal d'Afrique. Just a weak scent skin scent with tiny traces of juniper and lemon. Like many other reviewers, not a buy for me due to the horrible performance.
Extremely intimate performance. The smell itself is great, but the terrible performance makes it unbuyable product for me.
Citrus and wood. Fine nothing too special, but good and clean.
Almost certain it’s just water. Why buy this when there are so many excellent “your-skin-but-better” scents? Byredo failed the assignment.
I LOVE this fragrance. It’s so soft and beautiful, rather addicting. I don’t think it lasts particularly long, so I layer it with the perfume oil roll on in the same fragrance.
Very light with no projection or depth. There's some powdery smoothness in the first hour that's nice but it disappears and does nothing else after that on my skin. No juniper, a very faint tint of pine, no citrus, no woods, it's mainly just some clean and basic orris/powder. I hope I didn't get scammed with the sample I bought, so I won't rate it, but if it's legit, this is so disappointing and instantly forgettable.
Sweet citrus, a bit soapy (in a good way) and slightly spicy/fresh. Nice and easy to like, though for me personally it is a bit chaotic - kind of too much happening at once. Still one of the best from Byredo. I don’t understand what Eau Duelle has to do with GW, in my book they are worlds apart. Tam Dao however is quite similar, but cleaner. Tam Dao is GW with a dash of Blanche.
PRADA Luna Rossa – it’s quite similar to the black version. A pleasant, subtly smoky vanilla. If it had a slightly sexier touch, such as leather or patchouli, I’d have loved it. 8/10
thought i would like this because eau duelle is one of my favorite fragrances, but i cannot smell as much juniper as i’d like in this fragrance. its overpowered by a dry, green sandalwood for me. and the longevity and projection are abysmal. really underwhelmed by this.
A beautiful rounded wood- slightly powdery in a way that just adds a softness with that gorgeous vanilla underneath. I can see why it's a signature for so many, if only it projected more!
