Rose Noir

A dark mossy rose, in my option it is a darker and slightly worse version of Rose of no man's land

Very unique fragrance, like nothing I've ever smelled. I purchased a decant of this after seeing a bottle on Camille Rowe's shelf. Really nice, floral-y opening with a mossy, earthy dry down. I find this fragrance to be strange in a good way, and very dark-smelling. I think Byredo Rose Noir and Tom Ford Black Orchid are practicing witchcraft in the woods together at night.

The first couple of hours of wear are really special - the scent is nostalgic, moody, mature but not "old", romantic, introspective. Reminds me of something many David Lynch starlettes would wear, which is A+ for me. On good days this smells like a rose blooming in the evening on a perpetually damp, mossy gravestone. I have had bad days with it too, that makes me hesitant to get the full bottle - where it turns a bit sour and the black currant dominates. I'm wondering if it has to do with where my hormones are at that turns it? Anyway, it's a little inconsistent, but very pretty and unique for a rose scent, when it's working with my chemistry.

It's an earthy and slightly spicy rose i agree. It's a realistic wet rose , but I decided to give up mine and sell mine. I think I have too many roses currently (diptyque, jo malone, Maison kurkdjian, etc). There are currently just way too many roses on the market. Fir example, Frederic Malle made an amazing one too!

My kind of fragrance! It's a beautifully made earthy rose. Loved it! After drying down, it reminds me of Baie19.

To me its straight sweet licorice, very noir, but no rose detected. Average performance for the price.

Like all Byredo fragrances: after about 20 minutes they all metabolize down to smelling like the same identical, bland, extremely overpriced niche fragrance. Rose Noir did smell like a great fresh summer daytime fragrance at first, very pretty. I liked it better than I expected to bc I’ve found all Byredo fragrances unimpressive to say the least (regardless of all social media proclaiming this brand to be so amazing). The cute summery scent lasted at max 30 min - but I don’t think it was even that long before it transmuted down to the same boring niche skin scent. Why bother. ☀️🌹🍋⏲️👎🏼

Rose Noir opens with the sharpest, tangiest burst of grapefruit, citrus slicing through the air like the first breath of a cold morning. Clean, crystalline, like freesia after rain. Bright, but laced with a bitter edge, not sour per se but green and earthy, like a stock still rooted in soil. Slowly, deliberately, the rose unfurls. But not the sugary, dewy kind that can get lost in perfume-y fog. This is a rose that’s grounded, warmer, and more assertive. It comes with cardamom spicy and complex, bringing harmonious dimension to the scent, like a bit of fire against the cool morning breeze. Then comes patchouli, earthy and mossy, weaving through like a steady undercurrent. Not dark, not heavy, but definitely rooted. As it settles, you’re left with something that’s warm and rich, but with enough contrast to keep it from being too cozy, too comfy. The bitterness of the grapefruit still lingers, but it’s softened by the aromatic pull of patchouli. Rose Noir wears like a hybrid, caught somewhere between the elegance of rose and the ruggedness of the earth, something delicate and something wild. An interesting blend, a little more bold than I expected, not quite my type but no less alluring

Spicy patchouli and musk with a tart berry opening. I agree with the previous reviewer, there is not much of rose, but after about half hour, the richness of the fragrance comes out and the berry note becomes sweet and soft. The patchouli, that was initially overpowering, dissipates just enough to welcome a smooth vanilla.

In the interest of full disclosure, I ordered a 5mL sample of Rose Noir from DecantX, so this review is based on that sample. I don't get rose from this AT ALL. On initial spray I get a LOT of berry scent, but it smells specifically like blackberries to me. After a few minutes, I get sort of a saffron (? maybe it's the base notes coming through) note as a little bit of bitterness and depth creeps in. Honestly, I do like the blackberry-jam-with-saffron phase quite a bit, but it only lasts a couple of hours. The drydown for me is just kind of a generic darker floral, but I can't pick out any specific notes, just an overall floral bouquet. I don't get any of the moss or patchouli base notes, which is disappointing. This doesn't seem unisex to me and leans much more feminine (insofar as perfumes can be gendered, which I think is debatable, but that's a different rant). TL; DR: this is a nice scent but doesn't smell at ALL like roses and it definitely wasn't what I was expecting with a name like "Rose Noir".

I'm downsizing and have a 95% full bottle of this, original formula, original box for sale inexpensively. Kept in drawer away from light and heat. US ONLY.

Great scent, a lot more interesting and slightly less feminine than Rose of No Man's Land. My skin chemistry must absolutely hate it though, as it doesn't project pretty much at all and lasts 1-2 hours on me. 5 sprays on my wrists and I'm struggling to detect it a couple of hours later. Really surprised to see people write that it lasts 12 hours for them.

Straight black rose, cherry syrup. Perfect scent if you can rock a grown up gothic scent. I dont like it that much but I dont hate. I still wanna buy it for the memory it evokes.

Baroque, night-purple rose with curls of patchouli and ripe-to-bursting berries. It opens like a Concord grape jelly, but spends most of its lifespan as a mossy musk. The patchouli is decidedly menthol-y, which I think provides a beautiful contrast, and lifts the scent off the forest floor. The rose heart is rich, but thorn-free. I feel this whole scent is thick with petrichor. It’s like running Rose of No Man’s Land through the blue-tinged Twilight filter. The musk lingers the whole day without being overbearing. A pleasant surprise in my book. Mental Snapshot: A gothic romance novel cover. Dew-lacquered rosettes, moonlit pine boughs. Amy Lee of Evanescence cloaked in crimson velvet. Silver-foil calligraphy. Buyer Beware! I owned this several years ago, and I decided I wanted a new bottle. I was confused by reviews here saying it’s discontinued as it’s readily available for sale at the Byredo website and is now way overpriced btw. Still I missed it and wanted it. Received my new bottle. It’s totally reformulated! Smells nothing like rose. All I needed before is one spray. I had to spray 6 times in order to just get a mere ghost of what this perfume once was! It smells like nasty, very cheap, old patchouli, musks and cleaning product or even bug spray. Gone are the freesia, rose and berries! Why did they bother bringing this back? I contacted customer service and will be asking for a refund. They cannot not fool consumers like this, it’s wrong! This is NOT Rose Noir. Update: Byredo refused to rectify this situation even after I explained this is a reformulated perfume and that it smells totally different than Rose Noir. They have lost a customer. Their "policy" takes precedence over product quality and customer experience. This was once a favorite house, but I guess now that it's just another greedy corporation, they feel zero shame in deceiving people. There I was, re-visiting the house and planning to buy a few more bottles, but NOPE! Again: buyer beware!

It's one of the best perfumes I own (check out my Fragrantica shelves:)). I love moss and rose; the whole blend is so good! Surprisingly, it didn't do much for me in the beginning (I mean, for the first few months, on and off). It was a unique and unusual smell, for sure, but I couldn't pick up the obvious rose. The next thing I knew, it grew on me big time! Who would've thought? I do think (and I've noticed that with other perfumes) that the bottle needs to breathe. Once the oxygen gets in and oxygenates the formula + your chemistry, then something happens. This is why I believe some scents are liked right away and then get boring or disappointing, while others, the other way around, grow on you. I can't live without this and Rose of No Man's Land now, and of course, I have multiple backup bottles. It's an intoxicating elixir for me.

Initial spray…strong menthol! Couldn’t bear to leave it on so I have no idea how it would have settled down as I immediately washed it off. I’m having a really difficult time finding Byredo fragrances that appeal to me. However, I like Gypsy Water, Mojave Ghost, and Rose of No Man’s Land and I adore Mumbai Noise!

This is my favourite fall/winter scent of all times, it made me very happy to come back to it few weeks ago when days got colder. I normally don’t like rose but this is something else. There is an animal accord which gives it a claw. It’s luxurious, dark and erotic but not too heavy. Random people compliment and ask me about it all the time. To me it’s a scent of a fame fatale with a black panther on her side. It’s not for someone looking for a classic rose I guess. I love it and since I heard it’s discontinued I’m stocking up.

A true blue granny rose, with a bright sparkling twist.

I LOVE the opening of this fragrance. It's a beautiful, dark, almost wet-smelling rose... until the dry down comes along and ruins it for me. I get wayyy too much of the raspberry/red berries and it just doesn't work with the rest of the notes. I get whiffs throughout the day and can't help feeling like I smell like a dirt covered fruit roll-up thats been left out in the sun. Truly heartbreaking.

A mature dark rose scent. Would be perfect for wearing as an evening or special occasion scent. I’ve been trying different rose scents and I’ve learned that I prefer a more fresh/young/dewy rose, which this is the opposite of. I’m glad I tried it though.

Very dominant, classic neo-chypre rose patchouli. Super sexy, very grown, and another atypical Byredo fragrance. The rose here is still astringent (rather than round and shapely), but the oakmoss and patchouli are incredibly dominant here. The patchouli here is very green and mossy (of course, aided by the oakmoss), rather than being a rich, chocolatey/herbal-type patchouli.
