Very matronly, but a classic none the less i guess...
1881 you will always be mine Something about this just keeps me guessing. Something in the musky drydown It never disappoints It’s just ‘me’.
The new version with metallic cap... not good. I get a note of sweaty socks, very unpleasant, & missing half the notes listed above. No galbanum, rosewood, vanilla, narcissus, or coriander detected. The vintage mini is great. Infinitif (Coty) smells very much like the mini, I'll wear that instead since I already own a couple bottles. 1881 is expensive af in the vintage!!
This smells like musky florals, creamy soap, and freshly washed laundry. It's super pleasant, and on my skin the creamy, soapy facet becomes even more noticeable (which is a good thing in my book because I love smelling like soap). It keeps that clean, soapy vibe throughout the day. A great discovery for me and it has become one of my favourites! The bottle is also cute, and I got the 50 ml one for only $20. A steal! Will repurchase forever.
I remember when I bought a sample many, many years ago and I was completely horrified. But over the years, it smelled so beautiful on my skin that I could not resist and bought a 50ml bottle as a reward. It was September, a warm Indian summer, and this scent was perfect for this weather. It was one of my favorites. Then, for years, I shared an office with a now-former colleague and it was her signature scent. And since then, I have had a bit of a strange relationship with this perfume. It smells fresh, powdery, beautiful, but suddenly I feel such a strong pungency there and sometimes during the day it is quite distracting. But I would love to come back to this scent because it is really beautiful and you have to sniff it a bit. The bottle is a feast for the eyes, it is truly beautiful. I love the chamomile in the scent, I can actually smell it. It's a subtle scent, but people around you can smell it. The staying power is excellent. I like the way the air smells saturated with this fragrance.
Smells like something I’ll want to run to if I’m having a hard day. It’s soothing and luminous at the same time. Airy and fresh. Great for daytime wear and good enough for a day-date. Price and value? I love this.
For me smells exactly like Pesca by Reef perfumes. Lasts ages 6hrs +. Very flowery and fresh scent.
Pleasant soapy opening followed by a hazy laundromat-vent smell, plus an irritating plastic note. Dries down to a standard 90’s white musk. Has a nagging, cheap quality. Smells like a well intentioned yet dowdy woman named Gloria.
A soft scent of chamomile cream, a little powder and yellow flowers, with a touch of clean white-shirt musk. This, I think, is how my mother’s friend smelled when I was a child: a light pantsuit, a silk scarf, and a trail that felt less like perfume than simply her own skin. Not glamour, but understated urban elegance. Almost everyday poetry. The fragrance itself is just like that: composed, elegant, daytime. In the opening I catch a faint rubbery note on my skin. But in the sillage, especially from the hair, in the soft trace it leaves behind, it's beautiful.
This was my mom signature scent during the beginning of 2000s. For some reason, she could not find this scent anywhere in my country after that. When we were flying in a plane a few years ago, we saw it in the plane catalogue. I immediately bought it as a present for her. First when she tried it, she got upset and said that it smelled like liquid soap. But after a few sprays she teared up cuz it was exactly the right one. It is a very light, airy, fresh white flower scent. Sweet and fierce, like chamomile and jasmine and roses. A bit woody and citrusy too
If I will need to describe this in only one word, i will say this is golden. I bought this because someone really dear to me recommended it. I recall that she said she never smelled anything like this. That detail wasn't very surprising to me as 90s perfumes were immersing a whole another life around themselves at every spray because they were well more carefully created, with way more complex consistencies, not only 3 notes like nowdays. This scent is gorgeous and luminous but it is not for everyone. My brother said that I smell like expensive shampoo.
Product is recalled due to BMHCA. Google product recall.
An incredibly stylish, beautiful receptionist where I worked who was an absolute doppelganger for the singer Sade wore this in the mid 90s. The whole entrance to the building used to smell of it when you arrived for work in the morning and it always used to uplift me at the start of the day. Needless to say I purchased a bottle for myself. I had it at the back of the cupboard for many years and sadly it turned so I threw it away. I have just repurchased the reformulation. It was not how I remember it in the opening but once it settled I got a shadow version of the OG. The powdered coriander is still there and it has that comforting smell I remember - like a freshly laundered towel which has been doused in baby powder. This is proper fragrance and about as far away today's syrupy gourmands as you can get. Love it but wish it hadn't been dampened down...
Cerruti 1881 stands before me as a vision from my childhood—familiar in silhouette and colouring, yet only now fully revealed in its nuanced architecture and quiet divinity. The floral opulence is arresting, as though an entire garden were to bloom in synchrony for a single observer. Each facet unfolds like silk—layered, tactile, increasingly sumptuous. It feels intimate, indulgent, as if this abundance were composed for me alone. How lavish those years were, and how little we understood them. In today’s landscape, compositions are often reduced to their barest framework, each material stretched thin. Against this, the luxuriant density of the 1990s feels almost mythical. The note pyramid reads as excessive, yet on skin it resolves into remarkable harmony—meticulously calibrated and fluid in execution. A simultaneous bloom of multiple florals enchants rather than overwhelms, delivering freshness and saturation in one seamless impression. The opening evokes Spring in radiant form—creamy, rosaceous, touched with a soft violet haze. There is luminosity: golden, airy, effervescent. Soon, the composition deepens into a more voluptuous register. The jasmine–tuberose accord unfurls with sensual depth, while geranium and rosewood lend aromatic spice and structure. By all logic, this perfume should verge on excess, yet it breathes effortlessly. I sense sunlit meadows, warm grasses, an inexhaustible vitality. Like the great masters, abundance here becomes harmony. Cerruti 1881 is rich yet composed, expansive yet serene. At its core lies a tender sweetness—enveloping, inescapable, almost like a beautifully constructed confinement. The transition from opening to heart is seamless, a choreography perceived as effortless. Its diffusion hovers just above the skin, softly radiant without insistence. One need not seek it—it accompanies, trailing gently. That such refinement exists in an eau de toilette enhances its charm: unassuming, fluid, and versatile. As it recedes, Cerruti 1881 offers a final gesture: golden vanilla on a cloud of soft musk and amber, warm and intimate, like a parting embrace. What remains is not merely scent, but imprint—enduring, unchanged by time. Cerruti 1881 persists as both presence and memory, singular then and now.
If this were to be released today it would have been a best seller, imagine this in a frosted bottle ( like this one ) and name it Ballerina 🩰 let all influencers talk about how this CHAMOMILE sweetness with Fleur de lin is pure elegance, and quietly seductive at the same time , and NOTHING SMELLS LIKE IT . You'd see a hype around this as a new pdm for example ( frosted bottle like valaya but a pale peach color ) It reminds me of ballet - dancing practice, it's UNIQUE AND MEMORABLE . .. truth is ,it's all about the hype and also about how clean scents and musks are considered dated because everyone is obsessed with gourmands .. well that is just my opinion of course. If you like FRESH MUSKY sweet but NOT TOO SWEET CLEAN BUT SENSUAL scents , give this one a try . It LASTS really well , better than a lot of other perfumes I have tried . This one doesn't have a dupe, and she's SPECIAL . I always come back to it 💎⚓
Very nice soft scent ! Enveloping you with all these lovely sweet florals, mainly lily of the Valley, Rose and violet 💜,really pleasant for daily wear, but not very long lasting ! But good for the price...
Soft, herbal, powdery. The mimosa and chamomile come through most strongly, the numerous other notes blend together in the background. It's not sweet or "perfumey", if you smelled it on someone in passing you might think it was their lotion or shampoo. In that way I think it's suitable for all ages, genders, seasons, and occasions. I would love to smell this on a man! A very gentle, soothing fragrance. Wearing it feels like being wrapped in a cotton/wool blend sweater, freshly washed in chamomile detergent. I blind bought this and think it could be a good blind buy for someone who likes cozy herbal powdery fragrances. Scent bubble is arm's length and longevity is 6-8 hours, I wear it to bed and can smell it in the morning.
Old but gold. One of the first and most beloved fragrances I’ve ever owned. Clean, elegant, and effortlessly inoffensive, with a soft fresh laundry vibe. It has a clear ’90s feel without ever seeming dated. It always brings back good memories—pure comfort in a bottle.
it's a cold autumn morning, you took a shower and picked some clean pjs and a comfy sweater from your wardrobe and you lay on your couch watching tv... this is the exact feeling this perfume gives to me. when i smell a new perfume and see a "cashmere" note i think of this fragrance. even though this does not have an cashmere note, it feels exactly like that. it's fresh but in a cozy, almost hugging way. i believe it is the chamomile note that gives this vibe. very affordable but has an unique touch. longevity is weak but it's okay considering the price.
Looooveely.. I really, REALLY love this scent—it's an eau de toilette. I'm use to wearing eau de parfume so I just wish it came in an eau de parfum version, as I find projection a bit too subtle(at least on my skin). I’d love if it where stronger (eau de parfum) cuz the scent's just SO good The scent reminds me of spring, summer and flowerbouquets. Very feminine Safe blind buy
Smells exactly like the bottle looks. Smooth, soft, slightly powdery, fruity, round and warm. I smell a lot of peach, and it also reminds me of Lancome Tresor in Love. Not sure if I would get it at this point, but quite a safe buy and decent quality especially for the price.
Absolutely amazing scent, I blind bought it (based on Gemini AI's recommendation 😅) and it quickly became a favourite. I never really cared about it, somehow I had the assumption that 1881 is some dated, old fashioned, old lady smell - I don't really know why. I didn't find the notes appealing either. Yet I'm sooo happy we found each other! Very nice, unique but inoffensive scent, I can't imagine anyone's hating it. It has a herbal vibe due to the chamomile, a bit like a cup of chamomile tea with beautiful florals. For me it has a bit of a "mom vibe" - grown up, polished, beautiful and also kind, comforting, warm, and emotionally available if that makes sense. It smells like someone I want to hug. Wearable all year, every occasion, dressing up or down. I can easily picture it as a signature scent. Sillage is great, longevity is even better: with three sprays it noticably radiates around me all day, lasts days on clothes leaving a beautiful, intoxicating trail. Absolute masterpiece.
This scent reminds me of my mother. The mixture of baby powder and the makeup powder applied with a soft puff. Her skin has always smelled like these two things, even without perfume. 1881 Cerruti is the closest I have ever come to that scent. I enter the master bedroom and find my mom asleep. For a moment, I feel a quiet sense of impending doom, wondering how I could ever cope with the inevitable reality of watching her grow old before my eyes. Anticipatory grief is something I seem to have been strangely good at since a very young age. She always wakes up a tad later than I do. It’s a sunny Saturday, and she’s getting ready for a night at the officers’ club with my dad. Before that, we prepare a large brunch. They tease each other; still gently, still harmlessly, not yet at the point where an argument would grow into something exhausting enough to cancel plans and leave only silence behind. We eat, then get ready to go to the pool. She applies her waterproof makeup as if she has any flaws to hide. She’s beautiful. She wears her floral magenta swimsuit and black Ray-Bans. Dad looks happy as he gets my baby brother ready; he’s only one year old. They all smell like baby powder. So fragile. So young. So soft. This must be why I’m obsessed with powdery notes. Some fragrances feel a little like psychotherapy and I may have just spilled an entire bottle of it into the review section.
I can smell chamomile here and it fits so well. Such a unique freshness and sweetness and chamomile, that herbal floral sweetness and powdery finish. Interesting and unique, smells modern and new. I didn't think I would like it so much.
Dry, calming, powdery vibes. It smells like a face scrub that I own. I can’t seem to wear it even though I like the scent.
When I was a young teen in the 90's, you would smell this in department stores and sales associates would always offer a spray test. I wanted it so badly, but did not have the dispensible income at the time to do so, simply relying on my allowance. Now in my early forties I had a scent memory of this and tracked it down. Beautiful, soft, powdery and everything I remember from it - it transported me back to that time! This to me is the epitome of effortless femininity and the smell of a comforting hug.
Unfortunately not for me. Nausea inducing, it reminds me of Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, even if they don’t seem to share many notes.
My mum heavily used this in the 90's and early 2000's so in a way it does feel maternal like it's written in the PROS section. Very soothing for sure and it brings back lovely childhood memories. 2 words: hardcore nostalgia.
I had been sitting on the fence, wanting this for the past 15 years. My boyfriend just gifted it to me for Christmas….finally! I open the box and the scent wafting from it is exactly as I had hoped: clean, tea, with hints of rose, jasmine, and musk, but sparkling like soda water. The next day I put it on. Different story. The chamomile is rubbery on my skin. Trust me though, to hold out 20 mins. It turns into the scent I described of the box. This is the first scent I’ve owned that I love wearing to bed. It is gentle and quiet but still unique. It seems to morph. Sometimes it can almost smell fruity - or sour in the way that peony is presented in perfumery. I never really know what I am going to get, but I love all sides of it. I definitely feel that Gucci Memoire was inspired by 1881. Though Memoire pulls more of a “wild” chamomile or what I would call pineappleweed. Memoire is special because it draws upon that apple-y chamomile from my childhood memories whereas 1881 is more of a “tea” chamomile. Memoire looks to the past, but 1881 is about creating new memories for me. I cherish both. I’d also like to mention that 1881 lives in the same family as JLo Glow. Different notes, but they give a similar vibe. Their bottles also sit nicely together. The keyword I would use to describe 1881 is “romantic”.
This one holds a very special place in my heart with a deep memory attached to it. Picture your mum in the late 90s getting ready for a night out in the cold end of november, its the weekend and she’s getting glammed up to hit the town. She wears her favorite old faithful black dress, she gives you a kiss on the cheek before she leaves and says she won’t be back too late, she has her Clinique tender heart lipstick on and small gold hoops, her hair is scrunched curly with Paul Mitchell superscupt and her nails are french tipped. As she leans in to kiss you goodbye before leaving for the taxi THIS is what you smell. The warm embrace of this timeless scent enfolding you with straight up powdery notes with peach colored flowers, it’s cold but not in the way you think. It’s the perfect scent that latches on to a fur coat or long hair. Cerrutti 1801 is a mum who goes out but she’s one of a kind.
