no matter how many options I have I always end up crawling back to eau duelle. effortlessly smooth, creamy, and spicy with a refined sweetness which feels mellow and not nauseating. the way the incense is blended with the other notes is really comforting and sophisticated as far as vanilla fragrances go. holy grail perfume.
The most beautiful vanilla in the world for 5 minutes after you spray it because that's exactly how long it lasts. Upscale perfume manufacturers need to learn the words "perfume oil."
My sample’s 2-3 years old and deep amber but trying it now on my skin after about 15 minutes it smells so much like babycat some hours into drydown. deep spicy vanilla and incense, it’s beautiful
Epitome of cabin in the woods. super strong incense and wood notes. A bit of camp fire smoke. A bit masculine for me, I think I'd enjoy this on my boyfriend. I will not be purchasing a full bottle but it was fun to wear for a day.
The incense does a good job of keeping the vanilla from being too sweet.
Warm vanilla scent and unique. Like to wear it on the weekend to enjoy its smell on easy days. Not a strong sillage lover perfume. Overall, I like this one.
A rich, resinous-like churchy smelling vanilla. Amazing but overpriced. I can see why people will say it smells "old"/saunary.. Not for everyone, but it my opinion it is literal art how this smell develops.
dry sauna smell, not my thing unfortunately...
This reminds me of a rainy october in London circa 2009, going into a cozy café and browsing candle shops. I also read The Secret History after purchasing this, so for me personally it feels very "dark academia". I had a sample of the EDT first, but it strangely smelled like a flowery gin to me; the EDP is smokier and a "dirtier" vanilla. It smells more like a candle incense vanilla, not edible. @Merciln, it's not exactly the same, but Jazz Club is also a smoky vanilla that has impressive longevity. It's a polarizing perfume, as some say it's straight up ashtray, but for me it's vanilla heavy.
This is one of my fav scents ever. If anyone can recommend me a perfume that smells exactly like this but lasts way longer I’ll love you forever !!!
Subtly sweet, photorealistic, green-leaning vanilla pods, juniper and a tiny bit of incense. Dries down woody & clean. One of the better vanillas out there & I highly recommend the EDP. Skip the EDT, as it smells like a drop of vanilla extract someone spilled in a bathtub & is a waste of money.
The fragrance is incredibly charismatic, enveloping, and utterly addictive. Sexy and alluring for both sexes. The smokiness, balsamic, coniferous, spices, minty juniper, ambroxan, olibanum, tea, bergamot and saffron come together perfectly. The base features soft, cozy vanilla. If it's vanilla, it's quiet, powdery, and never cloying. If it's incense, it's the most delicate kind. If it's a forest, it's only the breath of bark. The only downside is that the scent stays fairly close to the skin. But, to be honest, it doesn’t need to spread very far to make an impression. It has a dark, almost church-like, and deeply seductive character that draws me in again and again🫦
pretty straightforward, nice crowd-pleasing slightly smoky vanilla. definitely not my favorite of the diptyque fragrances but still nice
this smells like my grandma's scalp
fresh on skin, eau duelle smells like pure vanilla extract deep, dark and inviting i almost get a headrush from smelling it, it’s incredibly intoxicating afterwards the dry down is a smoky and smooth fusion of incense and vanilla an almost perfect pairing the best way i could describe the feeling i get is smelling someone who’s way cooler than yous fragrance and not getting the chance to ask them what it is an idealistic vanilla that is definitely top five for me
Eau Duelle EDP smells of natural vanilla and damp earth. It's totally unisex and sits intimately close to the skin. The scent of petrichor in this fragrance will be calming and comforting to some, but on my skin it reads a bit medicinal.
Am I crazy this smells like what I feel cold is like? Its cold and I love it.
Smells lovely, creamy, soft, woody/aromatic, the slightest hint of spice. All in all very comforting, definitely unisex. Id say its feminine leaning, with a masculine touch. The scent profile is pretty much exactly what the notes would lead you to believe, not a complex scent, but beautifully done. I dont see why you couldnt wear this all year, maybe not a daytime scent in very hot weather. Yes it has a dense base, but its overall so soft its hard to imagine it being heavily cloying. Intimate, maybe moderate sillage, depending on your skin and where you spray. Moderate longjevity. All in all, not bad, good job.
A very smoky and spicy vanilla. A beautiful scent but i feel it leans more masculine than feminine. Evokes the feeling of a deep brown, worn out leather jacket worn in a misty and dewy weather. I enjoy the scent but it's not something i'd wear.
It evolves into a deeper, simpler smoky vanilla than the EDT. This is exactly the kind of gourmand fragrance I’ve been looking for. It’s not like marshmallow; it has a more sophisticated sweetness, reminiscent of a café latte. 10/10. It would have been even better if the longevity had been a little longer.
I do think that the goal of the perfume is achieved here: it’s a lovely vanilla smell that avoids being too immature or sickly sweet by adding smoky and peppery notes. I think it’s very well-balanced and could be worn at virtually any time, so far I've used my 1 ml sample for the office. My problem is mostly the silage and wear. I’ve seen other people have similar gripes with Diptyque, and I'm in the same boat. The smell doesn’t project very far, and I reapplied it midway through the day to maintain it. When I saw these complaints, I sprung to get a sample of the EDP hoping for a higher concentration and therefore a stronger scent, but I’m still less than impressed by its performance. Overall, I wish I could rate this higher, but there’s no way for me to justify such an expensive bottle if it’s going to be this weak of a scent, no matter how pleasant.
Soft, vanilla, incense, church type vibes. Very intimate, linear and short lived. Some of the 'smells like' above are wide of the mark - YSL Babycat... WTF!?!? For me, this is pretty much 1:1 with Myrrhiad by Pierre Guillaume which isn't even listed as a 'smells like' and it's cheaper than Eau Duelle as well. If you want a stronger take on this sort of profile as I started this review with then try Avignon by Comme Des Garcons, more 'churchy' but less sweet. I give Eau Duelle 5/10, nice scent profile but very weak performance, nothing new and outrageously overpriced @ £2.26+/ml.
Eau Duelle Eau de Parfum (launched in 2013 and signed by the famous nose Fabrice Pellegrin) is the demonstration of how vanilla can be stripped of any childish or cloying cliché to transform itself into a mature, deep and decidedly magnetic olfactory journey. If the Eau de Toilette version focuses on a more aromatic and airy freshness, the Eau de Parfum digs into the darkness, offering a denser, nocturnal and enveloping version. A game of contrasts the name itself, "Duelle", evokes a duel. In this case, it is a love clash between the ancestral sweetness and the edginess of spices and resins. The first impact is vibrant. Pink pepper stings the sense of smell with an almost cold and spicy freshness, immediately introducing the unisex character of the fragrance. There is no room for immediate sugar; the beginning is dynamic and biting. The smoky and mystical soul of the perfume soon emerges. Incense takes the fragrance by the hand, depriving it of any purely ecclesiastical connotation and instead giving it an exotic and mysterious aura. This is where Cypriol (Nagarmotha) oil comes into play, with its woody, earthy and slightly tart facets, it is the perfect counterbalance to the sweetness. The real protagonist remains Bourbon Vanilla, but forget the pastry desserts. This is vanilla in a pod: dark, carnal, liqueur-like and smoky. It remains on the skin for hours, transforming into a warm and reassuring, yet incredibly sophisticated caress. It finds the perfect balance between traditionally feminine softness and masculine woody/spicy dryness. It is not a "screaming" perfume that fills a room annoying others, but creates a splendid and intimate olfactory bubble around the wearer. It is at its best in the autumn and winter months, or on cool evenings, thanks to its heating power. It is not a simple vanilla fragrance: it is a fireplace lit on a winter night, it is the scent of the pages of an old adventure book combined with the incense of a distant temple. It is the ideal choice for those looking for a gourmand perfume that is not cloying, but who prefers to move in the territories of whispered elegance, mystery and intellectual sensuality. A masterpiece of balance by Fabrice Pellegrin.
One of my favorite perfumes I own . It smells like Cedar and warm spices on spray and dries down into a nice comforting vanilla that makes me feel cozy and happy all day. Perfect for everyday usage or special events it also layers quite nicely.
People love vanilla and I do not get why this one is so under the radar, it is one of the best in the category. it is rather simple but also deep and resinous in smell.
sweet and spicy vanilla very lovely
I love this perfume. Very versatile for me, probably not my go to in the height of summer but that's about it. Worn it for evening functions, dates, daytime events and always get compliments. It's sillage isn't aggressive, I prefer this over a huge sillage. It doesn't seem particularly changeable between spraying on my hair/fabric compared to my skin. The vanilla is a dry, mature vanilla rather than sweet, syrupy overwhelming vanilla. I find a lot of vanilla fragrances. Especially when gourmet are too youthful and remind me of flavoured lip glosses or body sprays from the 90s. This feels suitable for me in mid 30s without being old fashioned.
This is my rainy-day, cozy, comforting frag. Reminds me of the paper/ book archives section of museums. I understand why people associate this with “dark academia” vibes. Easily on my top 10.
The incense is a bit strong to me and overpowers the other notes in the beginning, but the dry down is really quite beautiful. If perfumes were Pokemons, this would be the last evolution form of Commodity's gold: the vanilla and background feel similar, but Eau Duelle EDP has a lot more personality and of course, this key incense note!
It smells like cold syrup...
