Smells just like steamed rice. I guess it could be a cozy and comforting scent to some people but to me, it just felt like standing in a hot kitchen and wanting to dip out.

With how successful this has been since it was released, I hope this is the holiday when Diptyque will release some body products. I don't really get into hair mists, so what I would love to see is a body oil or lotion. I'd also like a nice fattening of my bank account so I could buy it, but I regress. As my own personal sense of style has evolved perfume-wise, I have moved away from the more laundry style of musks to the fluffier, powdery kind. I will still go to town on a linen-y candle or home scent from time to time, but it isn't really often something I am drawn to. Each time I spray my sample of l'eau Papier, I am struck by how much of traditional white musk is used and then struck again (double whammy!) with how much I actually enjoy it. The slightly sweet, creamy, nutty texture that sesame brings helps to soften those sharp edges that I usually perceive with laundry musks. Instead of the sesame smelling oily, it comes together with the musks to make something that's beautifully balanced, clean, but not sterile. I can detect individual notes, but then the entire composition also comes together so nicely. For a relatively simple (and yes, linear) scent, it is pretty damn intoxicating. I don't even care that the silage isn't gigantic; l'eau Papier doesn't need to brag or boast. It just needs to exist, sitting perfectly situated between clean and comfy. I do think it'll be even better when they deign to release an EDP (or, in the short term, that body lotion so we can layer it up) but I can already see a full bottle of this splendid scent on my shelves. Now as for that infusion into my bank account......

Very weak, but absolutely lovely clean smell :) Similar to Appolonia by Xerjoff. Kinda like the base of Fleur de Peau, but without the harsher notes. Smells like reading a book in bed :)

I'm upset with how much i like this on me. It's such a cozy warm clean scent, like reading a book in fresh fluffy pyjamas. I like that it doesn't really change over time. The initial spray is pretty much still what you get after a couple hours but slightly faded. However, it does not project like at all and doesn't last long enough to justify buying a bottle at the moment.

This is the only fragrance I can buy bottle after bottle and not get sick of. I am completely obsessed with it and fear that I will never find anything that hits the spot like this does. It’s creamy and musky in a steamy way, never in your face but in the most gentle way possible. The biggest downfall of L’eau Papier is how little it lasts. I can’t smell it after 30 min of applying. I wish they made an EDP or at least a body lotion to be able to layer.

No wonder people rave about this. Fits flush against the skin as a stocking would. Appealing, musky, inoffensive, I have a hard time imagining much of anyone objecting to this. I prefer musk to be nastier (read: pissier), though the musk here is almost intoxicating while never straying too close to the realm of laundry. I tried this on a hot and muggy day and would so love to see how this performs in bone-dry weather.

Cosy creamy lactonic with a little nutty/biscuit edge detected. Same vein as Alias The Maker in my opinion (own both).

What’s going on! I don’t get how people love this scent. It smells like my sweat after I finish eating a Chinese takeaway!

Very special fragrance

Such a nice, light, refreshing and cozy scent. I always thought people spraying perfume before bed was kind of crazy, but after smelling this, I get it. For the price point though, I think it could be a little stronger and last longer.

L'Eau Papier is very creamy milky skin scent. It is slightly sweet and almondy, almost like steamed milk in the best way. It opens as a smooth, creamy lactonic fragrance that melts beautifully into the skin. It reminds me of Life Me Up by Inito. It also reminds me of a more intimate interpretation of Blanche Bete. It’s understated, elegant, and effortlessly chic. I really like this fragrance, but it is not a safe blind buy.

A subtle and sleeper scent, in my opinion. The steamed rice scent complements the musk beautifully, like your skin but sweeter/better. The woodiness and sweetness of the scent remind me of the sauna, when the wood's heated up and the oils mingle in the air for a lovely steam. Perfect for hazy, rainy and laid-back days. I personally love this for bed, simply because it's just a cosy and comfortable choice. I've gotten a few compliments on the fragrance; I just wish the scent had more longevity 3

Cozy soft fluffy powdery rice-like musk with clean light florals, pleasant and comforting but got bored with it eventually

The sesame note is a no from me dawg. Yucky!!!!

I bought a beautiful limited edition bottle a few years ago and I really liked it but for some reason it makes me sick to my stomach. It’s a really pretty smell too so I’m not sure why it turns my stomach now. Some times I can wear it fine and others I wanna throw up. I do wonder if it’s one of those perfume associated with bad memories… other than me getting sick the smell is nice lol just doesn’t agree with my stomach 50% of the time

I had the same experience as @valayaholic. I absolutely loved the sample, and purchased a bottle. It smelled like reading in clean pyjamas while rain hit the window. Loved it for a week, then suddenly it had this really sharp, overpowering soapy smell; not in a clean way, but more in a cloying, suffocating way. It gives me a nauseating pit in my stomach smelling it, both on skin and from the bottle. I wish I could fall in love with this again, but I think I got the ick...

I pick up on the unique steamed rice and slight sesame nuttiness in L’Eau Papier. It’s a very musky and subtle fragrance that’s quite cozy. I personally do not love love this, and would still pick Glossier You or Gaiac 10 over this, but this is still nice and should be appreciated nonetheless.

It took me a while to figure out what this reminded me of - I've been wearing it regularly for a while. Today, it hit me that it's very similar to my memory of Clean's Warm Cotton scent. However, much less abrasive/harsh. I would say this is very in-line with that scent, but softer and less linear. Comforting, clean, and warm. Perfect rainy day scent.

Анонім★★★★★

this is a very comforting scent. it's musky and a little starchy. smells like a cozy sweater.

I loved this in the store…then it made me so nauseous that I had to give my bottle away. Every single time I wear this, I feel sick for the entire day. I can recognise that this perfume is unique and beautiful. There is something extremely off putting about this perfume. There is an essence I cannot shake of like a greasy savoury food and black pepper, perhaps like a taco shell as others have mentioned? So while I can recognise that others rightfully love it, and it was such a truly special and unique release from Diptique, I genuinely just cannot wear this perfume without it making me want to throw up. Sad that I loved in store but the bottle I took home was just vile to my nose.

Savory, peppery and sweet. Really beautiful skin scent, I just wish it was stronger and had more lasting power.

I’ve been waiting for so long to smell L’eau Papier, maybe my expectations became too high or unrealistic. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pleasant scent for sure, but it’s not a heavenly scent or anything that would take me to different worlds or something. I can’t help myself but get a very strong cumin note in the opening and find it a little too harsh for my liking. Then it becomes softer and fine. It’s absolutely a safe unisex everyday perfume. But I wouldn’t buy a full bottle after I finish my decant.

Анонім★★★★★

First it gave me a wow effect, as it was my first skin-like smell. It does fit to any season, the smell doesn't annoy at all. Sadly I have never gotten any compliments while being outside (thinking the longetivity is not that great), but while giving people to smell from the bottle - everybody loved it. I like that it is a pretty budget option, since most of the great skin-like perfumes cost a lot more. I feel like i have a love-hate relationship with Diptyque, since some of them perfumes do not last at all.. Overall I don't feel like buying a second bottle now, but it will always feel like a safe option to come back to

Анонім★★★★★

Bought a second bottle and I just need to express again how much I LOVE this gem. It’s intimate and stays close to you ..it’s like a warm hug that u can’t get enough in… It’s not offensive it just adds a snuggly feeling to your day.. Perfect for signature scent in my opinion if you are someone who does not want a statement fragrance through power but through quality. Cause this does make a huge statement just in the most delicate inoffensive way. Snuggle in a bottle, thanks Diptyque <3

I tried this on my skin the other day. At first I thought that this is a lovely, musky skin scent but over time I realised there is a sharpness to this that I do not enjoy. Maybe if this was a touch more rounded, feminine, a touch warmer I would enjoy this more. Also the reviews which mentioned a “grandma” scent are not wrong (sorry). I should mention that this is still there on my jacket sleeve two days later which means it’s not as weak as others suggest - but maybe my nose is particularly sensitive as I now rarely wear fragrance due to my husband’s allergies. Overall it’s not a scent which I wish to own, although nothing particularly bad about it.

Анонім★★★★★

I don't like skin scents but this is a MASTERPIECE, holy shit. The mimosa and wood mixed with the sesame is otherworldly. The comment below me said steamed rice & clothes fresh out of the dryer is spot on. Signature Scent worthy & unfortunately worth the price tag although I have complaints about it only being avalaible EDT and not an EDP. Especially given the price point but it is unfortunately full bottle worthy.

Анонім★★★★★

like steamed rice and clothes fresh out of the dryer. sooooo beautiful, warm, and cozy. it lasts FOREVER too but the sillage and projection are sadly very weak, it's super intimate. still love it despite that though! overall rating: 🩷🩷🩷🩷💔 4.5/5

Анонім★★★★★

Honestly what is this? I have a very visceral reaction to it - to my nose it's like pepper spray, really. I always recoil. Drydown doesn't change anything. I truly can't stand it and that never happened to me. Dislike, yes. But this is horrrible. Please, has anybody else experienced this or do I have some defect?

Анонім★★★★★

I've tried this one multiple times but i genuinely cannot smell anything?

Signature skin scent. Perfect for layering, or a stand alone. My new favorite just because my collection leans heavy this is the perfect light.
