Blue Grass

Wearing her to bed tonight so I can happily sniff the powdery spiciness as I drift off. I really do like carnation and cloves together. Such a beautiful classic must always be in my collection. I will probably not wear this to work as I doubt the young people I work with would care for the powder of this vintage scent. No, she will stay home with me where she can be appreciated as she should be. She is lovely. Update: still present the next morning. Just as spicy, powdery and clean. I can’t say the same for the staying power of many of my newer scents. I only did 4 sprays, wrists and inner elbows, that’s it. My skin tends to be dry, and I did not moisturize.

Got this fragrance today because i'm a fan of classic perfumes. Big disappointment,this is one of the worst scents that i've smelled. Smells like old granny and also reminds me of some cockroach spray. Sorry for the bad opinion but this one is just not good.

I like Blue Grass very much - I find it a unisex style and works well for the daytime. And, for the price, a very decent EDP.

Upon first spray; wow! Soapy! Reminds me of Imperial Leather a bit, or Dove bars, or some similarly heavily scented bar soap. Dries down to a sweeter, lighter, but still somewhat aldehydic floral scent. I can pick out something fruity-floral, like ylang-ylang and tonka. There is also a powdery floral, like violets or orris, somewhere in there. This has that 'vintage classy feminine' feel, but approaches it in a lighter, slightly less warm/spicy way than many other classics. This might make it suitable as a summer scent, where other aldehydics might be too heavy and cloying. That said, for those who aren't keen on mature formulations, this is still on the heavy side. I'd say this is something you could wear at any time of day, any time of year. Unfortunately, the nuance is a bit lost to the soapiness for me. Quite pleasant and interesting after it has aired out a bit, but perhaps a bit sharp and unapproachable at first. Kind of how I imagine Marilyn Monroe might smell, when its not a Chanel No. 5 sort of day.

I want to like this, I keep coming back to it every few months and I like the dry down on clothes after 24 hours. It also smells nice on my mum wearing it from a far (whom I gifted her my bottle) it's soapy, bubble bath, fatty and on first spray there's a artificial banana/bubblegum type note. It's very strong and will easily follow you all day. The dry down is quit nice, but the top and middle notes just turn my stomach a little bit when it's worn on me. It smells a little like Ponds cream with the blue lid. It's a freshly washed out of the bath type scent, I wouldn't call it super spicy like Youth Dew, more of a floral and bubblegum but without sweetness and very soapy.

This seems very nostalgic! I don’t know anyone who wore this, but it smells like the 70s to me. I can imagine a 20-30 something woman in the 1970s wearing it.

My nose doesn't pick up on as much as I should because I have a bad sense of smell and am recovering from sinus surgery. But from initial spray, I get aldehydes that really stand out, if you want to know what aldehydes smell like, smell the opening of this. I went mad smelling this the first time trying to figure out what it reminded me of - I still don't know - probably reminded me of everything my parents and grandparents were wearing when I was a child. After that, I got a powderiness, followed by a clean, hay-like smell that was really pleasurable and I kept digging my nose into my arm for more. On skin, it dried down to something makeup powder & sweet. I didn't get the lavender or cloves, but when I sprayed on paper I could get the cloves. The overall impression was a bit vintage, powdery clean-ness, but I suspect if anyone were to smell me wearing this they would just assume I was wearing one of those "clean" "musk" fragrances people tend to wear these days. I definitely oversprayed and overwhelmed, which is difficult to do to my poor malfunctioning nose, so colour me impressed. I'm interested to see how this changes as it matures.

Wowww this was a great impulse buy. I'd been going back-and-forth for a few years on whether I should add a classic spicy carnation frag to my wardrobe, especially since I finished a bottle of L'Heure Bleue which was the closest to that scent profile of anything I owned. I've always been caught between going for L'Air Du Temps and Aromatics Elixir but never quite remembering to catch them during the sales, and then seeing this on £10 for 100ml I couldn't resist. It is 100% a vintage, old-school fragrance - if you use 'old lady perfume' as a pejorative then you'll want to stick to the salted caramel gourmands. But it's such a nostalgic, dreamy scent, if you're ready for it you'll be in for a treat. It pulls off so many things at once - fresh and almost bracing from the aldehyde bomb in the opening but dries down powdery and comforting, smells like fresh laundry and warm hay, could be the scent of a tomboyish girl-next-door or a perfectly put-together older lady. It's not as elegant as L'Air Du Temps or as green and mossy as Aromatics but there's some intoxicating floral notes in here that give it a surprising complexity beyond what you might expect for the price: melancholy lilies and earthy narcissus stand out to me almost as much as the spicy carnation-geranium-rose accord here. I think I'll mostly be wearing this as a cosy, stay-at-home scent or using it as a linen spray to max out the comfort factor, but I'm curious about trying it layered to see if I can get it to smell more 'modern' - in particular I think it could play really well with more bitter, herbaceous scents.

This smells like vintage makeup! Definitely a vibe. I love it, especially the vintage frosted cologne spray bottles with the blue lids.

I bought it as a full second hand bottle from an Italian lady. I was hesitating that it would be something I would not wear on daily basis, but the price was too endearing. It really does smell like a grandma, in an environmental-spacewise way, it smells like the mysterious bathroom of a grandma that has many trinkets and glass bottles, and variously shaped blue soaps in there. In the first spray it is a deep soapy smell, then it tunes down to a mix of spicy flowers. Althought my partner found it to be very vintage and old like - I also don't think it's a perfume that I would like to wear to the office or date - for me it is a perfume I would like to spray on after shower and right before wearing clean clothes that smells like softeners. This combo smells delightfully clean on my skin. Classic perfume lovers may like it, but it is on an interesting ground.

You can say whatever, the opening IS harsh, but you can never make me hate it. I'm 26 and it's too aldehyde-heavy for my grandma and older colleagues so after purchasing it out of curiosity (with no tester on the display) I just had to learn how to love it and I do. I put it on the skin after using a body oil, just two sprays, and my SKIN smells beautiful after the drydown. Like 10 hours later when I work out in the gym the smell resurfaces as something fresh and floral. It requires patience. But the price is a BARGAIN.

This was a blind buy for me and it was a hell no. The force of the geranium made my stomach churn. Sillage and longevity was painfully long for such a cheap buy. Despite my own reaction I have to admit that the way all of those notes were blended was a triumph. It is a beautifully made perfume that I hope I never smell again!

I think I recall my grandmere having worn this… so you KNOW it’s an “oldie”!! I decided to track down some… just to remember HER a little! But… OH DEAR… even to this “MATURE” nose… it smells much too MUSTY!!

I recently bought a bottle of Blue Grass, and initially, I didn't like it. I'm used to warmer, sweeter fragrances, and Blue Grass is definitely cooler and dryer. After wearing a couple of times, though, it's grown on me. It strikes me as being very soapy with a big burst of aldehydes and lavender and hints of geranium and lily plus musk and vetiver in the background. It seems like a simple fragrance on the surface, but it's actually more complex than first appearances would suggest. There is a soft powdery quality to it that gives this new bottle, and I'm sure reformulated version, a vintage vibe. However, it also seems modern in that it's very clean smelling. It's one of those rare fragrances you could wear your whole life.

Personally too strong for my taste, but it is so nostalgic. My aunt wore it back in the 80s and I remember the scent on her. I keep a vintage bottle for nostalgia. Warm and old fashioned.

I just acquired a vintage bottle of this very pretty perfume that has great sentimental meaning and memories for me. The reformulated version doesn't do this softly elegant daytime feminine fragrance justice. Blue Grass was the signature fragrance of my best friend when I was a child. She was 4 years older than me and I was in awe of her. She was like a big sister to me. Taught me everything about boys, how to apply makeup, walk in high heals etc ... Taught me how to deal with jealous girls... She was sophisticated, smart, elegant, even wiser than her years. I admired her so much. We lost touch when she married and moved to Hawaii when I was 14. I thought about looking her up over the years but as they say you can't go home again.. It is always sad to lose people in your life, it happens but I was happy to have known her and I was and still am grateful for her being a good friend to me when I was so young. Vintage Blue Grass is like a whisper of many different elements. Soft, but evocative. A whisper of aldehydes, grass, lavender, bay leaf, carnation and cloves. This fragrance is like a flash in the minds eye of the bluest skies, the brilliance of sunlight, the iridescent colors of soap bubbles. It doesn't have the exuberance and glamour of other perfumes in the classic aldehydic florals genre. It is gentle, soft, and kinder. And I agree there is something of the "tomboy" of the 70s element about it. It was something that someone (myself and my friend) who loved nature wore in the 70s. I smell this now and it saddens me that this scent profile has gone out of fashion. It is so delicate, pretty, but easygoing, unpretentious and gentle. An easy signature for a more elegant and simpler time. The more I smell this lovely vintage gem I keep hearing Lana del Rey Summertime Sadness in my head. It has that feeling to it.

Old fashioned, elegant ladies going to brunch on Sundays, dressed to the nines wearing crisp dresses with crinolines, gloves, hats and a string of pearls. Exquisite.

Blue Grass hasn't the glamour of other classics, It may be regarded as somewhere in between tomboyish and dowdy. I think this well-preserved version is wonderful to wear. It is one of those that has me convinced that I smelled it on a family member ages ago and its scent was imprinted deep in my memory bank. It elicits sensations of a distant past and an aching desire to relive it—knowing that it is impossible. Did my mother own this at some point? Did my grandmother? An aunt? A teacher? Maybe it was favorite teacher in elementary school, Mrs. Antaya, 2nd grade. I still remember her warmth and her grin. It is bottled up and bittersweet obsolescence. There's something about the dusty, distant aldehydes rolling over grey lavender and geranium, like some peculiar fougère. It is spicy and herbaceous, but not in a terribly exuberant manner, which also intrigues me. It reminds me of a sad Old Spice, a pensive Bay Rum, but with some blurred flower arrangement in the periphery. Now I encounter a powdery carnation ghost. Further on, there is a point where it smells like braided sweetgrass in damp air, a certain sweet-musty coumarin hay-like quality. As it winds down, a pale sarsaparilla spill, a woody licorice, a fancy potpourri, a shell soap to the nose. It makes Youth Dew feel thoroughly modern in comparison, and I love it for that.

I had been passing on this fragrance for so long. I remember seeing this fragrance at good old Kmart. Shopping with my mom and passing on this bottle along with along with so many others. Being 10-14 years old, this fragrance was not marketed for girls my age. Even as an adult I continued to pass on this one. I am now in my mid 40's and I purchased a used bottle of a new formulation. I was at a thrift store and asked the store clerk to set it aside for me while I shopped some more. When I was at the checkout line the clerk walked the fragrances I chose to purchase. I took a sniff from the bottle without spraying, just from the cap. I ALMOST LEFT IT BEHIND, because it didn't smell good at all to me. As I was standing in line I thought: "What the hell, I'll take it for my collection. It's a classic fragrance." I am so glad I did not leave it behind. I actually really enjoy this perfume. I had heard so many good things about it. I just needed to experience it for myself to become a fan of Blue Grass. This fragrance is vintage, in my opinion. To clarify, this is a classic vintage that is timeless. Not for the sweet lover. This fragrance profile is an; Aldehyic-Lavender, Light Powdery, w/Soft Carnation floral notes, and a dash of spice. I even get some sort of greenness to it. Even though this fragrance was first formulated in the 1930's it has such a soft & light profile compared to it's same genre fragrances of the 30's. The Bergamot, Vetiver and Neroli make the scent a tiny bit citrusy, not overly done at all. The powdery-ness in this fragrance, is created from the mixture of the light musk used along w/the Benzoin. This is an extremely affordable classic & comforting scent, that does good in all year-round seasons. I love it after a shower, to wear to bed or to feel fresh on those hotter days. Can't believe I am saying this but...This is now one of my new classic favorites.

Smells very nostalgic to me, it's light, clean and powdery but there's an underlying spiciness that smells like warm incense - which I love. The herby incense smell is what sticks around for the longest time, and it stays quite potent throughout. Overall, very comforting and relaxing, reminiscent of walking into a cozy crystal shop.

A fascinating little fragrance. It starts off with aldehydes (the dusty kind...almost stuffy even), and some accord that vaguely resembles the opening of Opium. Perhaps it's the carnation, or bay leaf, or some combination of the two? The fragrance quickly settles into a minty, licoricey lavender and a dull, woody clove note. Undergirding all these accords, is a powdery, rubbery, almost diapery floral that strongly resembles Ylang Ylang (even if it's not listed). For me, this serves as an interesting lavender musk to wear bed, or something to layer with a higher quality fragrance. Make no mistake, Blue Grass is not trying to be fancier than it actually is. Some budget fragrances manage to punch above their weight. I don't think this is one of them. This smells pretty true to it's price range, but it's still one that you can have fun with if you just like old-timey perfume.

Usually I find aldehydes off putting and overpowering, but I deeply enjoy this perfume. I'm sure my Grandmother used this, or had one of the many soaps or other miscellaneous BG scented products, but I can't wear it without thinking of her. It's simply a comforting outdoorsy scent. I wear this outside a lot, especially to play sport or garden. It's definitely spicy, but the florals (especially carnation) make it very clean and powdery. I've been leaving it to macerate for a few months to hopefully bring out some of those herbaceous notes (bay leaf, maybe dried neroli?) I've noticed in older testers that have eventually turned a deep golden colour. It wears beautifully and carries the same vintage smell as it did when I was younger. I wouldn't call this an old lady scent however, I think it's timelessly wearable.

My story with that perfume started badly.First sprays were like mosquitos repellant (lemongrass ?!) .Then I forgot (ok I ignored it ) the bottle in the bathroom cabinet.and it transforms into that powerful dried herbs scent .BG is so mysterious ,it evolves into powdery heaven .My colleague used to say it smells like inside churches . I used it for weeks and the room had kept the dry down ,something soft and comforting . And the price too is an invitation !The bottle is simple and lovely.That turquoise art deco horse is perfect ,the glass and cap shape is all rounded.To sum up it all I love BLUE GRASS ♘💙
