Escada Magnetism for Men

It is one of the best, no ifs, ands, or buts for me. I still have a half bottle from 2007 and, on occasion, will take off that cap and bask in the great memories it brings back when wearing it out clubbing. It is the only frag I've ever used that attracted women on a consistent basis and who actually went out of their way to ask what I was wearing. Which in turn got the conversation going and subsequent good times. A unique sent for sure. Apparently, it has one or more ingredients in the formula which cannot be used in fragerences anymore. So no return to the consumer retail market in its original composition ever again for this beast of a fragerence. The dupes are available, but there is no substitute worthy of this masterpiece. Mostly fakes are out there now, and what's left that is real to buy is just too expensive. Oh well, that's life.

Es una fragancia que llegó a mi de casualidad hace unos 5 años, no la conocía y vaya que fue una agradable sorpresa, es una bomba sexy, conquistadora, muchos mencionan está parte del refresco de cola y es verdad, huele a nuez de cola que con el almizcle la hace limpia y refinada, las maderas le dan un toque muy masculino, con una parte de cuero sutil que le da cuerpo, todas las notas están muy bien trabajadas en esta fragancia que sin duda hoy es una de mis favoritas de mi colección, en estos días es un perfume bastante cotizado pensar que pude conseguir está botella en menos de 75dls, simplemente agradezco está delicia y obra maestra de la perfumería

This Gem is a true masterpiece. One of the most unique fragrance ever produced. Nothing comes close to smelling like this. Absolutely stunning. It projects well not too loud but just enough to have an impact and longevity pretty good. Definitely suited for winter or fall . Compliment getter. I can say this is one of my top 3 favorite of all time.

I bought and finished a bottle around 2006. I can't say I enjoyed using it or fell in love with it; that's how the perfume world is, the moment production stops, the scent becomes legendary...

This was a true masterpiece of perfumery! It possessed a wonderful sharpness and a deliberate harshness that acted as a real magnet. I have genuinely never smelled anything quite like it since. It was an unusual fragrance with a strong character that commanded attention every time it was worn—I even picked up a distinct 'cola' vibe from it! Intense, absolutely amazing, and strongly aphrodisiac. I only wish it was still in production

Imagine a sparkling sugar drink thats fizzing in your nose off the cup. Extremely good. The best days of perfumery...Escada Magnetism is an effervescent fizzier sprite cola DNA in the vein of the cola characteristics within dior homme intense. Just no iris or chocolate here. With a crystalline sugar dry down that is addicting and reminds one excitingly of the deep sunset maroon purple color scheme.

I still have 3/4 of a bottle from 2006. I’m worried to use it and waste it. It was strange to me that this one has gained so much appreciation and value of the years. I remember when I bought this one. My girlfriend at the time bought the ladies bottle so we would have matching (complimentary fragrances). It always reminds me of rainy fall days, just before winter.

Had to register here just because I wanted to thank you DYNABLASTER77 for the tip - bought Prada Black to hubby because Escada Magnetism is no longer available. And I just love it! Escada Magnetism has been the best scent ever, unique, soft and somehow easy. And most importantly, it doesn't cause migraine. So sad that it has been discontinued, but so glad now that I found Prada Black! How many bottles should I stock it before it ends too...

Both Prada Black and HDP 1725 Casanova are similar, stronger and maybe even better smelling.

As I recall the last time I wore this magnifigant Magnetism saffron scent, a harrowing hurricane strength wind blew me bottle directly out of me hand directly into the captains head directly breaking his brains all out of his head, arrrrrrrrr! Aye had to grab the wheel of the boat and was forced to maneuver more than any man should why eye fought through massive 50ft waves with 90mph winds this stuff works in all occasions! Arrrr I reckon it were the saffron balsa in Magnetism what helped keep me buoyantly afloat. Later on land I tried to purchase another bottle. I found it were discontinued, pirates arrrrr selling it fe.r exorbitant prices! arrrrrrrrrr

Animalic smells , not for me

I used to love this scent so much! I recently came across the new Brioni EDP and it reminded me of two scents: with just a few sprays, Jeans Couture Versace Man. But with about 7 sprays, something hit me with a memory of Esacada Magentism. Something interesting, both Escada Magetisum and Brioni EDP were created by the same perfumer, Michel Almairac! So cool!

Followed my girl to a little home grown tienda that deals mainly in jewelry, along with some fragrance. I’ve been there before, but been generally bored with their offerings as it’s mostly a regurgitation of any YouTuber’s Top 10, along with the main line frags for men and women from the “big” designer houses. Much to my surprise, I saw a lonely bottle of this sitting on the bottom shelf. Not looking to excited, I gave them a “how much are you wanting for that one?”….they kinda shrugged, and said “$70, ordered for someone else a long time ago and they never picked it up.” Ok…$70 will do - especially from a shop that’s changing $100+ for Dylan Blue, Versace Pour Homme, etc. I held in my excitement until we got outside and then showed my girl what they’re going for on eBay…she started to suggest I do the same; but…”my precious” *pets box Scheemgally* Just to show the goldmine I stumbled into, they also have a brand new 100ml of the OG Versace Man, which I will be getting after Christmas. I had a sample of this a while ago and loved it. Just not $300 love. For $70 I would never hesitate in this one. Not too sweet, not too spicy, not too powdery - everything, every facet just melds together right on this one. For some reason I get a bit of an Iris feel in it, which I know isn’t listed but I like it. I like the opening, but this one has a dry-down like no other fragrance I own, and that’s so rare anymore. Truly sad this isn’t in production anymore, I’ll have to be sparing with my sprays.

SO this is virtually impossible to find for a decent cost - even if you stalk new listings on the resale sites. I bit the bullet and spent $200 on a 50 ml. original 2006 UK formulation. So expensive. Was very captivated to try this- especially since 2004 was my highschool graduation year. These are first impressions and top to mid top reactions; Ok...so this stuff is WEIRD. Like Tim Burton movie type weird. I am a pro at comparing and contrasting to all smells on earth but even this is trumping me quite a bit. (Nevermind that statement- GOT IT! LOL): It has a bizarre sweet animalic vibe to it; like a mix of that 'sweet feathery' parrot smell at a pet store mixed with that plastic bag smell in the lettuce isle followed by a background note of a brand new carpet. It's basically this bizarre 'fruit punch' of like guilty pleasure smells we don't admit we like out loud to others. Everything i've ever heard about this scent; grape soda, Midnight in paris, vanilla coke, CH Men Prive, Le Male.... no! None of those come close to this. Powdery yes the 'Powder' is the only likeness I can detect in terms of comparison to other scents. I'll give it that. GUYS! THIS. STUFF. IS. BIZARRE. I don't hate it- don't love it- I just don't know what is happening. The fact its not strong enough to make itself and its notes more known even confuses you even more. I can't tell if my senses are just dull today but this stuff isn't strong... BUT it's there. Were the France ones stronger than the UK?? I can't even rate this yet- that's how lost I am. This is in a confusing niche level realm - a category I don't bother with. I prefer collecting rare designer formulas. I've been well present and aware since 2004 and not sure if I can even recall smelling this around me. My scent memory would have exploded if I did. Wait- HAVE I smelled this? IDK! The name wasn't wrong- I am definitely Magnetized - with sheer and utter confusion. I will try to follow up... UPDATE: I FIGURED IT OUT. It is an identical fragrance to LUSH Cosmetics Blackberry bath bomb/ Sultana soap!!! A fruity bergamot-olibanum scent. They must share resins in common or something. Is tolu balsam & olibanum identical? Seeing as one of Lush's first perfumes was the blackberry bath bomb scent in 1995- the exact same creamy fruity resin fragrance it's clear Lush's fragrance was copied! Wow! The scandal. Google Lush Blackberry bath bomb- scented with the Magnetism dna - fun fact that bomb was ALSO purple!!! I mean come on. Clear plagiarism. Lush ALSO had an identical fragrance in their bath bomb - 'Winter bath' that smelled identical to Gucci Envy. Same ginger fougere scent- they even put green flakes in their bomb. If no one knows what Lush is it is a UK body product company that uses natural fresh organic ingredients in their body products- all their fragranced products use essential oils resins absolutes ect to scent their products so its a great company to use to get to know individual notes in their natural format. I was obsessed with LUSH for 10 years before getting into cologne collecting so it gave me a good heads up on many compositions or naturals. Seeing as Lush is a family owned company sensation that minimizes in public advertising with a lot of creative artistic perfumers in their staff- I'm noticing bigger companies took advantage of this and plagiarized a lot of their scents. Anyway with all that said- I hate that I spent 200 on this- I could have tracked down the Sultana of soap fragrance which is far more concentrated and natural. Magnetism fans try to track down a 'Sultana of soap' perfume- you are welcome!

Really beautiful, fresh, purple soda type and, to me, this kind of reminds me of the Le Male DNA. This is a good all around fragrance that can be worn at anytime and any season. It's fresh enough for the Spring/Summer but strong/dark enough to pull off in the cooler times. While it's discontinued, it's a nice one to have. I don't know if you should go crazy and pay the ridiculous price it's at these days. It's a nice like for me.

Escada’s Magnetism for men really is a masterpiece of marketing and design. To name a fragrance “Magnetism for Men” is to make a bold claim, a promise of social success to which we all secretly aspire, a promise that we too can emulate that inexorable force of nature where some objects become irresistible to others. “Magnetism for Men” could be the title of a self-help book, and implies that this fragrance will imbue its wearer with the glamour and appeal of a movie star, as if it were a magic spell, potion or talisman. The name suggests “charisma in a bottle” - à la Dale Carnegie it will help us to win friends and influence people, and might even encourage the objects of our desire to suddenly find us irresistibly attractive. Then there’s the bottle, sleek and elegant, reminiscent of Art Deco, dark purple glass like a polished, faceted amethyst. It is purple but not just any purple. It’s neither lilac, nor violet nor lavender, all of which are a bit girly and feminine. No wussy flowers here, thank you very much This is πορφύρα (“porphura”) the colour whose use was regulated by law in Ancient Greece and Rome, Imperial Purple, the colour of power and luxury - that’s the purple of Magnetism. If we could smell colours, Imperial Purple would smell like Magnetism for Men. Prince would have loved it. The amethyst coloured bottle contributes to our impression of how it smells. MfM smells purple. For me it’s not a “cola” or a “grape” note - MfM is not that explicit - this is a Michel Almairac creation after all - it’s a combination of very subtle hints and suggestions that can be confusing because the impression created is somehow familiar but hard to identify, leading the wearer to draw their own conclusion. It’s not easy to effectively translate a sensory experience into words and MfM is a real challenge for me because I lack the right ones. Magnetism for Men opens with a subtle hint of spice (or, rather, saffron), then becomes sweet, woody with hints of fruit, resins and the suggestion of a vaguely boozy note that has a gourmand thing happening, almost like a smell you can taste or a taste you can smell. It suggests, it does not scream. When I was a kid I adored Asterix - the Romans in Asterix were always drinking purple coloured wine. Magnetism for Men reminds me of how my younger self imagined wine would taste. What I’m trying to say is there's a dreamy suggestion, a gourmand note evocative of an idealised concept of purple cartoon wine, as imagined by a child reading Asterix. This purple elixir - the bottle is purple and its content is (lightly) tinted to match - really is like a magic potion, so unusual and so tantalising that it fascinates. Been trying to work out what MfM reminds me of … curiously enough it reminds me of the original Shiseido version of «Fémininité du Bois» in style - especially the woods and the dry down. If only MfM had the same performance and longevity as FdB it would be glorious. Escada really should re-launch Magnetism for Men. Considering its cult status a new version would take the world by storm. I also have Escada pour Homme and aside from being discontinued and having a cult following the only thing both of these Escada men’s fragrances have in common is less-than-ideal performance. Magnetism has surprised me in the past however as I can often detect it the morning after a sleep. In any case this is a fascinating fragrance that I adore, but would only recommend a blind buy if you have obscene amounts of disposable income. The outrageous bronze-balled hubris of calling a fragrance “Magnetism for Men” is truly impressive - practically inviting a blitzkrieg of punitive thunderbolts from Zeus - but what could so easily have been a cringeworthy punch line or a forgettable non-entity was instead saved from oblivion by creativity (Merci infiniment Mr Almairac) and by something very close to high camp fabulousness in its presentation (the box is almost as cool as the bottle) - the end result is a case study in brilliant design and marketing. Love it. I consider myself lucky to have had Magnetism for Men come into my life. I love wearing it and just wish it weren’t so hard to get or so obscenely expensive so I could wear it as often as I’d like.

I owned a 1.7oz bottle of this that I grabbed off ebay back in 2012 for like $40ish. To my nose it was a perfect example of the bottle matching the fragrance super well. It is a strong grape soda / coca cola type vibe off the top. Powdery and lightly woody in the base. I don't really know how else to describe it but that it strongly resembles grape soda or grape candies on the initial spray. Longevity was pretty average on my skin, around 5-7 hours with a few hours of noticable cloud. A 7.25/10 for me. I just didn't like the powdery, synthetically-sweet grape vibe that it has. Not a huge compliment getter from my experience and it languishes in the back of my collection collecting dust. For a scent in this vein and use case, I'd choose DHI 100% of the time.

Same as Vastalux except I have about 85% left in a bottle I forgot I purchased this 10 years ago. It was recommended to me by my local perfumery & because it was a steal back then ($40 AUD), I swooped it up not knowing how coveted it would be down the track. I suppose I’m lucky to have this gem for now. I probably won’t wear it too often as my collection has grown quite a bit & I have better options these days. 7/10.

Still left about 70% in my 100ml bottle which I bought 10 years back. Need to use it sparingly since is almost impossible to get the new bottle. One of the top my favorite cologne. I love the grape, ink & fizzy cola smell. Very long lasting in cold temperature. It's really remind me my youngster life. I wish Escada will produce this cologne back.

I wanted to thank you a beautiful store clerk at the Pacific Centre now a Nordstrom store for stopping me back in 2004 and asking to try one of the very nice new fragrances. I said why not and she sprayed on a card Magnetism by ESCADA. I ended up buying a larger 100 ML bottle, years had passed and I throw it away in a garbage bin leaving only the cap. Now 16 years later I feel so mad at myself for not keeping the bottle, hahaha you can never know when one fragrance becomes a limited "hard to find" gem. I am writing this review looking at the cap thinking where are you my beautiful bottle of Magnetism ;) Oh, and yes the fragrance was very nice, I doubt I could pull it off now but back in 2004 it was awesome. P.S. Hoping someone out there would pick up on this story and make a copy or maybe ESCADA themselves come up with MAGNETISMMXXI (it's about the time).

First off gotta thank fragrantica community which was the reason behind buying this gorgeous fragrance. Didn't know much about it till saw it for almost a decent price, AUD30 for a 50 mill bottle. After reading the reviews I reckon I must consider myself lucky with those crazy prices out there. Having a decent collection on my shelf I'm not a pro in describing a scent tho, but the sour grape right after the initial spray was obvious to me. And after couple of minutes couldn't believe the transition of that pleasant sour grap to a nice powdery almost feminine sweetness. No doubt it's going to be my most unique designer fragrance which can't find any other nearly similar to. Wasn't sure if I'm gonna love it but after a day of wear definitely jump to the store tomorrow to clean up the rest if there is any. So bottom line if you can get your hands on it for under $100 don't even bother to think and spend the money. Cheers.

This was my go to scent on nights out on the town, this and Roberto Cavalli Black. I still have 2 bottles of this from 10+ years ago that I stopped using as much when I heard it was discontinued. I'm not a fan of most leather fragrances but this one was masterfully blended. I wish Escada would re-release this one for a limited time. Do fragrance houses actually do that? If they don't, they should. Especially since most designer fragrances today all smell alike. I've found myself gravitating toward niche brands for something different. I think it would be a good idea for fragrance brands to re-release popular past fragrances since there seems to be a creative deficit in the fragrance world these days. Plus with most people not splurging on fragrances during a pandemic, it would be a good idea to revisit some oldie but goodies while they (cosmetics companies) use this time to come up with new and exciting fragrances.

What a singularly unique scent. I decided to purchase a sample of this when I found out my best guy friend wore it a long time ago and couldn't find anything else like it. I wondered if I could recreate it with essential oils so I needed to test this out. This tester is now so precious to me that I don't want to try to replicate it because I'd need to essentially "waste" the juice for my recreation. I can't wait to smell this on my friend. I could see men of all ages pulling this off. Oh, what it smells like - Leathery, but much broader than that. It's leathery and sweet with a little spice that doesn't overpower. It blends very well. There's something metallic about it that I can only explain as ... this smells the way mercury looks, like shimmery but a bit more. Also, even though I have never smelled this before consciously to my knowledge, there is something nostalgic about it. It evokes memories of being around 7-9 the days my dad would take me fishing at the lakes nearby and I'd play close by near the outskirts of the woods (this does not smell like fishing lol, but like a warm day for being outside). If anyone has this, please PM me. I'd love to get a bigger bottle or just more samples of this for my friend. He's such a special person and this would be the perfect gift for him to show him just how wonderful it is to have a true friend in my life. :)

A fairly unique scent I must say. I had a bottle of this since 2009 and ever since I heard of its discontinuation I have been using it very sparingly. The opening is balsamic and woody, with what appears to be some ambery sweetness. Many people have been calling this a ''grape soda'' or ''cola'' accord, and I can understand it reminding some of grapes, but it's more of a spicy mix of saffron, sandalwood, and amber. I have never smelled tolu balsam before, but I do get a smooth, slightly creamy accord which I belive to be the sandalwood later on. The woody and sweet notes are balanced nicely and to this day it smells very modern. You won't find many scents with this kind of scent profile. Performance is okay, nothing really crazy. Can be worn year round, suitable for more casual occasions (also night out, clubbing etc.) but could also work as an office scent. I only suspect the sales weren't the best which lead to its discontinuation, but if you get a chance to smell it or get a bottle for a reasonable price, do get one. 7,5/10

Different from the other fragrances. It misses only a better longevity, for the rest, it is a home run.

Proto-Niche Oriental (Michel Almairac, 2004) Scentrack: Zoot Woman – It’s Automatic What is so special about this masculine Escada? When this Escada was released niche perfumery was not so popular, yet Magnetism carries a scheme of so many niche Orientals yet to be released. Magnetism opens like a fizzy grape soda. It is a blend of strong Iso E Super manifested by pepper and sparkling cedar, and supported by Guaiac wood. The saffron is perfectly harmonized with strong woody nature of Magnetism. In the background, I can sense some leathery undertones, giving this composition dark and mysterious vibes. The balsamic base is composed of resinous Tolu, soft but comforting amber and pale vanilla. A real sexy, dark, vibrant clubbing fragrance. Perfectly named and perfectly matched to its bottle. Magnetism is an example of carefully tweaked saffron/woody/leathery fragrance. A perfume structure rare in the designer section today, but very often found in houses like Montale. It’s a real pity that it is discontinued, but still hoping for reemerging one day. Rating: 8/10

Reading all those comments about this fragrance and thinking to try but no where to find only on ebay sellin and those greedy sellers on ebay have price up to $700...Amazing,i hope they never sell,if is a sillage and projection average like many other top brand it is not worth that much money,,,crazy...

one of the best perfume ever maid. from the beginning to the end, saffron and leather with balsamic airiness, pure WOW I am writing the review while I am wearing it. luckily I have 100 ML almost full and two 50 ML backup bottles. I have red some of the reviewer's opinions, certainly it is a masterpiece. they don't make it like this anymore. cheers Guys

Absolutely an amazing scent.Incredible opening. Great Dry Down. Super versatile . Excellent presentation. Another discontinued masterpiece by Escada . Right down to the bottle. Magnetism has really evolved into an incredible, unique fragrance! Even though it has moderate longevity it's still great. To truely appreciate this 4-6 sprays will project well . Others can pick it up even if you can't smell it after awhile. This goes in one of my top 10 of all time! nothing comes close to this scent . One of the most compliment getters in my collection! 9/10 !
