The dry-down really reminds me of Baccarat. 👀

Very similar to Lalique Encre Noire. For me it's 70% Encre Noire and 30% Bois Imperial. Yet, when I layered the two together I didn't exactly get Painter, Bois Imperial made the composition somewhat sweeter. I'm tempted by the bottle design and story behind this fragrance so we'll see, maybe I'll end up buying 15 ml which has really cute bottle. For now I'm on the fence because similarity to Encre Noire is striking

For me its universal perfume. I can't say I can define some notes here, and development is rather linear, but it makes this good for office or any event. Because it's predictable, but still not so usual. It smells like mineral sea with splash of salt. On me longevity is around 5-6 hours, which is enough. And yes, it is similar to Ganymede for me, but not equal. Painter is not such long-lasting and doesn't have such a strong inappropriate sillage. I like Painter's bottle and how spray works. Only con for me - 100 ml bottle, I prefer smaller ones.

This is, above all, intensely woody. Rather than an “oil paint or solvent” effect, it evokes a wood workshop: a painter sketching dark, ink-heavy scenes in a dim studio. It also conjures the image of someone like Percival de Rolo (gunslinger of Vox Machina); round glasses, high-intellect, dressed in a gothic-victorian silhouette while performing routine maintenance on his weapons. The opening has a black-pepper freshness, but not the kind that bites or twists your nose; it’s smooth. At its core, this is a woody (driftwood would’ve fit perfectly here) perfume in the most literal sense: very woody, to the point where some might read it as pencil shavings. And... and there is zero sugar, which ended up being my favorite part! In the background, I get a very restrained vetiver; present, but not dominating (which I appreciate). There’s a salty-mineral impression (like iodine), but I wouldn’t call it a full-bodied marine, and I wouldn’t call it seaweed-like either. In the drydown, the woody aspect never leaves. The fresh-spicy top calms down and hands over to a soft, clean musk. So what starts as fresh-woody gradually shifts into woody-musky. I wouldn’t have expected to get a cooling sensation from a composition like this, but I do… it’s so strange. Calm, steady, balanced. It suits multiple aesthetics: an ironed white shirt, aristocratic polish, even “old money”; but also an excellent dark-academia fit. Notes: I checked the comments and perceptions vary wildly. I don’t get a baby-ish vibe (maybe soft musk at the end?). Aquatic; absolutely not; it’s quite dry and woody. Clove-like? No; and thankfully I don’t get any warm spice at all (I wouldn’t want it here). It has nothing to do with Bois Impérial (which is more vetiver, slightly sweet-leaning, and distinctly “Bisch-y”). Ganymede? No... It is mineral-leather-fruity. If I had to anchor it to references: CdG Blackpepper in the opening, and CdG Wonderwood in the finish. Painter by Genyum feels more atmospheric than perfumey. The opening is sharp, peppery and mineral, with a slightly saline, almost solvent-like edge that really does recall an artist’s studio - raw wood, paint, and air filled with something dry and chemical. After a short while it softens into a clean, woody-musky scent with a light aquatic, seaweed-like nuance and a subtle powdery, skin-like finish. It’s fairly linear, quiet, and well blended rather than dramatic. Longevity is moderate at around 4-6 hours, longer on clothes, with a restrained, personal sillage. Best suited for spring, autumn, and cooler summer days, Painter is fully unisex, office-safe, and unobtrusive, not a crowd-pleaser, but a thoughtful, textural fragrance worth sampling rather than blind buying.

I've recently picked up this fragrance and I really enjoy it. Scent profile aside I can see a lot of people commenting on poor longevity saying it only lasts 1-2 hours, maybe they're going anosmic, everyone is different. 4-5 hours in and this fragrance is going strong, with a good/great scent bubble . I can see other comparisons to Ganymede/bois imperial, I can only speak to Ganymede as I don't have bois imperial. These two fragrances are far apart to me , I actually don't like Ganymede anymore and rarely wear it. This is a light spice, woody, slightly aquatic fragrance to me with a clean skin/musky profile .

This perfume is a powdery citrus scent that can be worn in all four seasons. You can wear it in any setting; it won’t bother anyone, and most people will like it. However, it’s not suitable for me—I’m on the side that doesn’t enjoy it. It’s definitely not a bad scent, but I just don’t like it. I also don’t like Ganymede or Bois Impérial, but those who enjoy those kinds of fragrances will absolutely love this one.

Maybe the best signature scent out there.The seaweed note gives off a clove-like smell with a minty undertone freshness.Although I would say it is a linear scent,it is very high quality and well blended,a safe pick for the general liking and it won't nauseate anyone if you don't overspray a ton.Honestly performs pretty well for it's scent profile,I was able smell it after 12+hours on air once.Perfectly unisex as well!

Smells so much like Bois Impérial / Ganymede. I don’t know why people are saying that it’s not.

As a massive fan of Ganymede, I wanted to try this. I blind bought this fragrance and when I tried it, I was devastated. This is just black pepper and algae to my nose which combined smells like clove, nothing like Ganymede or Bois Imperial. Unfortunately, I can not refund it because I smashed the package. Never blind buying anything again.

Very pleasant and magical with its sound of oil paints on wood. But unfortunately it doesn't last very long on me, literally an hour and that's it.

Tell me this one is not little bit peppery version of encre noire….

Love at first sniff this is one of the best 4 season scent

It's okay, very marine, but doesn't smell too strong for me. It's not unpleasant but also not super memorable for me.

I'm 30 and I've been convinced that perfumes are useless, because I didn't like any of them. My mother likes floral stuff like Very Irresistible, I kinda hate it. Even though I adore my boyfriend wearing Dylan Blue, going to shops and smelling the samples made my head hurt and literally nothing was even remotely interesting to me. Until one day I asked a few people (not even hoping for an answer) if there's a perfume that smells like fresh paint or a few other very weird smells I actually like. I got a few recommendations, and Painter was among them. Then I checked out the reviews here. I figured it was worth a try and ordered a small vial, like 2 ml iirc. Man, was I blown immediately away. Nothing, absolutely nothing at any shop comes close to this. I don't really smell this synthetic fresh paint smell I was hoping for (well okay maybe there's a hint), but whatever it smells of, I absolutely love it. I can't say much about the notes since I'm just a beginner (and it took me two months to man up and write this), but I will say that even though it lasts a decent amount of time, I kinda want to reapply it every few hours. I don't do this because I don't have much, but yeah. Also it's autumn and it seems to be wearing off quickly while outside, which is a bit sad. I'll check out a few other perfumes (waiting for Bois Imperial and TdH), but so far this has been the sole perfume which I want to own. A sample size of one is questionable, but still, I was convinced the entire perfume industry is lost on me... and this has immediately hit the perfect score

This is love at first sniff. And usually when I love something right away, I get bored of it soon. But not this one (yet). It’s beautiful. I would never think I’d like this when looking at the notes and description. And I also don’t recognize them, nor anything else reminding me of paint, except for the chemical alcohol that luckily only lasts seconds. It then starts with pepper, but as soon as that fades, a beautiful scent is left and it stays on clothes for days without being too heavy. I can even still smell it in my clothes after washing them. Current favourite and I may have even found my signature scent. If only it would be more affordable and easier to find…

I do not see any similarities to Ganymede or Bois Imperiale whatsoever. This is nothing like those two for me. I was not a fan of the beginning of this scent, but the dry-down is very interesting. It has some nostalgic aspects that I just can not get a grip on what it reminds me of. It has something with babies as funny as it sounds, maybe some baby product... I'm not sure, but that is what this perfume makes me think about. It is nice - I mean the dry down as the scent becomes balanced and harmonious AND INTERESTING, while in the beginning, it seemed sharp and kind of even too peppery while there is no peppery note in the dry done to be noticed which is nice. I know it is very popular right now but maybe it will take me some time to get the idea why people are so crazy about this scent. Edit: okay, a few days later I get the hype. Still reminds me of some baby product but I actually really love it. Still no associations with Ganymede or Bois Imperiale as I am not a fan of those two perfumes.

Painter is stunning, gorgeous, and I absolutely adore it. Black Pepper, Laminaria Seaweed and Vetiver, which is not noted here. It's amber woody and feels so chic and luxurious but in an airy, aromatic way, like something Ellena created for Hermes. It's in the same wheelhouse as Poivre Samarcande perhaps. I love it so much and it feels so much a part of me, this really could become a bit of a signature scent. While the scent is nicely understated, I find the performance and durability excellent with a noticeable sillage - in my personal space at least. I have a lot of love for what Genyum do generally - their range is strong throughout and worth sampling - and Painter is my favourite of them. @thescentiest

I love this perfume so much! It's very unisex and while I've received many compliments on it, the same people have disliked the notes when I've described them, and also the first initial spray as it comes off very strong. Some have even refused to believe it's the same perfume they complimented, even if they've complimented me several times haha. It's interesting because to me it smells the same throughout the day. The silliage and longevity is really good. Overall it's one of my favorite smells at the moment and it really surprised me how much I like it, I can't really put my finger on what specifically I enjoy though. It's very unique and definitely not for everyone.

It is unique, light fresh-iodine smell with mineral facets, spicy Projection is far below compared to Bois Imperial or Ganymede To me it has nothing to do with painting, but let me ask the painters:) UPD: confirmed - from the bottle cap resembles some oils dissolvent, but on skin it's totally different:)

I really love this one! Personally I don't have a relationship with oil paint, so to my nose this smells a bit like some type of soap, but in a really good way if that makes sense!

I think this is the best one from the entire house. It is clearly in the direction of Bois Imperial, Ganymede. But here there is something more, something so smooth. Don't know how to describe it but it is extremely appealing and doesn't have rough edges and strange spike notes as in Ganymede or Bois Imperial. Only downside is that this one is not as strong or projecting as Ganymede. Edit: My wife loses her mind with this one)) From my entire collection she reacts only to this one like that. I think it is better to buy one backup bottle. My score: 9/10

Opening is spicy aromatic but the dry down projects what the perfumer wanted to tell about this scent. Smells like the solvent/oily paint, dirty (in a good way) - just like a painters atelier would smell if you would walk in. Really interesting scent and definitely worth trying. Unisex fragrance in my opinion.

my dad bought this and it smells sooo good. i love it. i love to paint with oil so this fragrance is very special to me. smells like the solvent you use when painting with oil paint, i adore that smell and it brings back so many memories of happy times painting in class! it leans more toward masculine but is pretty unisex. ive never smelled a fragrance like this i rlly recommend it!

Yes, Painter smells like an oil painting that has stood and dried for a few years. Balsam turpentine, linseed oil mixed with earth pigment. A scent that meets me when I have been away for a long time, and comes inside the door. I guess many would perceive the scent as leather-cade oile, which fixes that job. After an hour, the spicy and woody sounds fade, soft tones of sea float up and forth on my skin. I will come back to you when the temperature has risen. Svenska: Ja Painter doftar som en oljemålning som stått och torkat under några år. Balsamterpentin, linolja uppblandad med jordpigment. En doft som möter mig när jag varit bortrest en längre tid, och kommer innanför dörren. Jag tippar på att många skulle uppfatta doften som läder- en oljan, som fixar det jobbet. Efter en timma klingar det kryddiga och skogiga av, mjuk ton av hav flyter upp och fram på min hy. Jag kommer tillbaks till dig när temperaturen har ökat.
