It’s honestly such a shame that this fragrance is no longer made. Terre d’Hermès Eau Très Fraîche is a little gem, fresh, citrusy and aquatic at first, with that woody Terre d’Hermès DNA staying beautifully in the background. The longevity is moderate and the scent trail lasts around 3–4 hours, but for me it’s still absolutely worth it. If you still own a bottle, enjoy it and appreciate it, because this is one of those fragrances that stays in the memory of perfume lovers.
#144 of My Fragrance Journey - Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche: The one that got quietly discontinued while doing everything right I keep coming back to this one now that it's gone, which is maybe the worst time to fall for something. Bitter orange hits first, and it's not the loud, syrupy kind -more like sunlight actually landing on your skin after a grey winter, the kind you don't chase; it just gets you. Jean-Claude Ellena built the original Terre d'Hermès out of stone and flint and dry earth. This flanker doesn't throw that away. It just tilts the whole thing a few degrees toward warmth. What gets me about the opening is how unforced it feels. Bitter orange peel, citrus rind, a mineral coolness running underneath -none of it polished into sweetness, none of it stretched into that laboratory-clean citrus you get in half the fresh fragrances on shelves right now. There's still a bit of bitterness in it. Still that oily residue you'd get on your fingers actually breaking open the peel. It smells like air moving through branches, not air conditioning. Then it shifts - not dramatically, just a change in temperature. Watery spices and something faintly aromatic start moving underneath. Geranium's listed in the notes, but on my skin it barely registers as a flower. It's more like it adjusts the light somehow, keeps things level without ever asking you to notice it's there. Nothing's fighting for space. It all just orbits the same quiet centre, and that's honestly where it wins me over - it's not performing freshness; it's just living in it. Hours in, cedar starts to show up. Dry, finely grained, and there's a patchouli underneath that grounds things without dragging the whole composition into something darker or heavier. The smoky flint of the original is still back there somewhere; you can sense it, but it's more remembered than repeated. What you're left with instead is space. Warm wood. Mineral air. Skin that's been holding onto the last bit of the day's light. I don't think this fragrance is trying to become something bigger than it is - it just gets more like itself as it goes. Strength through balance rather than force, which sounds like a line from a fortune cookie, but it's genuinely how it wears. It moves across identities easily because it's not leaning on some rigid idea of what masculine is supposed to smell like. It just trusts texture and restraint to do the work. Where it loses me a little is performance. The first couple of hours are effortless, genuinely lovely, and then it settles in close to skin faster than I'd like. Depending on your chemistry, the cedar base might hum along into the afternoon, or it might just fade before the story's really finished. I wanted that mineral heart to hold on a bit longer before handing things over to the woods - the transition's graceful, sure, but maybe a little too quick about it. The warmth shows up. Then the tension just leaves the room before you're ready for it to. And then the hard part: it's discontinued. Gone. Which stings a bit more than it should, because this was one of the rare designer flankers that actually understood what innovation meant - not more notes, not louder molecules, just a shift in angle without losing what made the original work in the first place. That's rarer than it should be. Vibe: Bitter orange oil on warm hands. White stone holding onto afternoon heat. Cedar breathing slow under an empty blue sky. Performance: Elegant and present for about two hours, then it settles into something more intimate - cedar and mineral sitting close to skin for another four to six hours depending on your chemistry. Fit: Bright spring mornings, long summer afternoons, and anyone who'd rather be a quiet presence than an obvious one. Renewal never really arrives as some big moment, does it? Sometimes it's just light coming back -and realising you'd been walking toward it the whole time without noticing. More scent stories and visuals on Instagram - @lavendercloudsjd
It smells definitely very good just like the original does. It has something tart in it, more citrus? I had 8 ml of Eau Givrée a while ago but not anymore so I can't remember that version exactly. By now, based on my memory only, these two are very similar flankers but it can be that this version is better, less tart maybe, or it has something more in it that makes it smell better than Eau Givrée.
Fire 🔥 Water for the Summer 🌞 I give it a 5-Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & two Thumbs up! 👍🏻 👍🏻 Sad to say disco
Best orange fragrance ever! Too bad its discontinued... Lucky me i have 3 bottles 125 ml each for backup so i'm set for life.
I have a 5 year old 4.2 oz tester bottle, unused. Bought it back in 2021 and never got around to using it. Just tested to make sure it's good, and it smells great. Just not my jam. Make me an offer.
Not exactly "old school" masculinity so I'm going with Unisex leaning ever so slightly feminine. Light, airy and more floral than woodsy, unfortunately for me. I do like this for sure, 4 out of 5 for me and with ramped up wood notes it would be 4.5 As it is being discontinued and way overpriced I feel when available the price would have been more than fair and would have owned. I am looking into a clone because it's so nice for high heat. I will say in the office more floral but in 90-degree temp way more woody. I wish that wood popped at 70 but it what it is. I'm going to layer with Iso E super so perhaps that will woody it up!
This fragrance is truly stunning. A clean, confident masculine scent.
The second stop in this four part series brings us to Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche. Released in 2014, this flanker represents a more aqueous and airy interpretation of the DNA, with the name translating appropriately to Very Fresh Water. While the Parfum was designed to lean into density and the original EDT found its fame through mineral earthiness, Eau Très Fraîche was specifically formulated for extreme heat. Though it has since been discontinued to make room for Eau Givrée, it remains a legendary entry in the collection that some enthusiasts consider the best the line has ever offered due to its scintillating profile and effortless wearability. It will be interesting to see if this fresher take retains the soul of the original or if the aquatic elements dilute the characteristics that made the DNA famous. Let’s see if this one makes a formidable statement on the skin or if the original EDT still reigns supreme. Opening: The opening is citrusy, woody, and aquatic. The primary notes I get are citruses, woody notes, water notes, and geranium, with the citruses and woody notes leading the way. While the citrus profile is technically divided into a dedicated orange note and a nondescript "citruses" accord, they realistically roll into one cohesive experience. The orange definitely takes precedence with a large dose of the characteristically sweet and juicy Terre d'Hermès orange, but there is a noticeable tartness and rindiness underneath from grapefruit and lemon. Likewise, the woody notes are broken down into cedar and a general woody accord, but they too can be combined; I pick up a clear, grassy vetiver tone that ties the fragrance back to the core DNA, along with a dry woodiness from the cedar. Underneath all of this, the water notes work as a supporting element to offer something new to the line, providing a fresh and aquatic vibe that really drives home the Eau Très Fraîche title. Lastly, there is just a bit of a minty, green, and floral accord lingering in the background from the geranium. The result is an opening that feels like a lighter, more transparent, and aquatic take on the classic Terre d'Hermès identity, while still holding true to the core DNA of what makes it Terre d'Hermes. Dry Down: The dry down is still citrusy, woody, and aquatic. The primary notes I get are still citruses, woody notes, water notes, and patchouli, with the citruses and woody notes continuing to lead the composition with authority. This phase is largely a direct extension of the opening, making this a fairly linear fragrance that prizes consistency over complex evolution. The only noticeable shift I pick up on in the dry down is the departure of the geranium note, which makes way for some earthy green tones from the patchouli to emerge. Other than that, the scent remains a very fresh and woody experience exactly as it was during the initial spray. The result is a dry down that maintains its airy and transparent identity while settling into a slightly more grounded territory. Performance: The initial projection within the first hour is strong, reaching out about six feet. The sillage matches that intensity with an easily noticeable scent trail that carries the watery citrus notes well. After about three to four hours, the projection softens to approximately three to four feet, while the scent trail becomes lighter but remains noticeable to those nearby. By the seven hour mark, the fragrance has already transitioned into a skin scent. If I had to guess, I would say the fragrance actually made that transition into a skin scent after about five to six hours. This is a noticeable step down in longevity compared to the other versions in the line, which is expected given the lighter and more volatile scent profile. When to Wear: Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche, like the original EDT, is a spring and summer fragrance best suited for daytime wear. It works exceptionally well as a casual fragrance and can transition easily into a pleasant office environment due to its transparent nature. However, the addition of aquatic notes makes it less suitable for the formal environments where the EDT and Parfum would excel. Furthermore, I still would not choose this as a special occasion or date night fragrance, as it lacks the necessary weight and depth for those more intimate settings. Blind Buy: As always, sampling is the best option for this and any other fragrance. However, of the Terre d'Hermès fragrances I have tried so far, this one is easily the most blind buy safe. It intentionally forgoes that polarizing and gritty flint note in favor of a fresh and mass appealing aquatic accord that is much easier for the average person to digest. For this reason, if you are a fan of the Terre d'Hermès DNA or just enjoy fresh and citrusy fragrances in general, this would likely be a very successful blind buy for you. It removes the "dirty" obstacle that often turns people away from the original composition, resulting in a scent that is far more approachable and universally likable. Final Verdict: I can see exactly what Terre d'Hermès Eau Très Fraîche was going for with this release. It took the tried and true DNA, freshened it up, and removed that iconic but polarizing flint note to make it more mass appealing and easy to wear. Hermes did a great job with that execution, and I think it is a great smelling fragrance, but I personally prefer the grit and uniqueness of the original version. Both the EDT and the Parfum also performed better than Eau Très Fraîche on my skin, which is expected because of the freshened profile, but it is still another reason why I prefer the EDT. I think for many people Eau Très Fraîche will be a better and safer pick, but I will personally keep my bottle of EDT rather than searching high and low and likely overpaying for a bottle of this discontinued flanker. While this was overall a very pleasant experience, it is ultimately not a fragrance I will be adding to my collection. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 6/10 Sillage: 6/10 Versatility: Average Compliment Factor: High Gender: Masculine Value: Fair
I've tried all TdH flankers, and the hype is real. Eau Tres Fraiche is really good. In a nutshell, it's a watery TdH. Masculine watery freshness with TdH citruses and minerals. Airy. Very different from the other summer flanker, Eau Givree - ETF is smoother, not as piercing, much more watery. The freshness lasts maybe 6 hours. A wonderful blend. All TdH are great, and the only one I didn't get a bottle of is Parfum (still wonderful, but a tad too syrupy, the most similar to EDT, mostly for indoors use). My current Terre ranking: 1) EDT & Eau Intense Vetiver & Eau Tres Fraiche: all 10/10 2) Eau Givree & Eau de Parfum Intense 3) Parfum (would place #2 alongside Givree and Intense if not a bit redundant when owning EDT)
Feeling Dangerous it's 10° F in the North East, & I went for my 2018 bottle of Eau Fraiche 2 Sprays & my God I forgot how amazing this Fragrance is it is without Question the single most realistic & best smelling Orange based fragrance ever made.
A staple in my collection for the warmer months. Retains that original TDH dna (without the dirt orange smell) and made it fresher, with watery and natural citrusy notes. I have an older batch and the longevity is pretty decent for a freshie, about 5h-6h. Unfortunately discontinued, this is such a great fragrance.
People were right about this “You will smell amazing, for literally an hour” The opening is amazing, realistic sweet citrus, like you just peeled a fresh orange/mandarin, The woody base is noticeable. After 30 minutes the aquatic part comes through in the air, very light, There is an underlying spice that adds interest and character. But, 1-3 hours and it’s gone, You are left with the iso-e - woody base and that spice mentioned (kinda boring), That base sticks around for a lot longer. Good for a cologne type fragrance, lacking staying power for me. Worth the discounters price when it was available but today’s prices? No. FM Bigarade is much more interesting and edgy but some people may not like it.
Frankly speaking, I was about to Cry when I knew that it was discontinued by IFRA!! it was a masterpiece. If you have got one, believe me, you got a gem on your shelf.
The similarity with the EDT, Parfum l, Intense Vetiver is unquestionable. So if you have already owned one of them, you are covered. Just adjust the sprays according the concentration. The scent is almost the same in the air, IMHO.
It was discontinued because of a ban on Lilial. Not because of a “body odor note”
C'mon, Eau Très Fraîche is top three when the weather is scorching hot. The reality is as follows: people's noses are not accustomed to a fragrance that is natural smelling since everything nowadays is ultra synthetic. That was my case. I was just another victim. Take your time, have patience. You will be rewarded.
This smells like realistic orange rind. Fresh and zesty. Kind of weird as a fragrance but still nice in small amounts. Do not overspray this: There is an undertone of a sharp note that adds a legitimate dimension to the realism of the orange rind but in higher amounts it can be too-easily detected as acrid body stink. I think that weird body odor note is why this is discontinued.
Close to a realistic citrus for me. Longevity and sillage is just ok. Wear it to the office and my colleague really like it because of the really fresh and uplifting scent. The wood in the dry down is giving a nice touch to this fragrance making it more masculine. 7.5/10
Terre d’Hermès Eau Très Fraîche is a lighter, fresher and brighter interpretation of the classic Terre d’Hermès, maintaining the line’s earthy and mineral signature, but with a citrus and aquatic opening that evokes a cool breeze in a field of orange trees after the rain. Performance Projection: Moderate, projecting for 1 hour, then staying closer to the skin. Long-lasting: Good for a fresh citrus — lasts 5 to 7 hours, depending on the weather and skin. Sillage: Discreet and elegant, ideal for those who prefer more intimate fragrances. Use Occasions Eau Très Fraîche is ideal for hot days, professional environments, daytime meetings or even an outdoor lunch. Its casual elegance pairs well with light clothing and occasions where you want to convey refinement without exaggeration. It also works well as a daily signature for those who appreciate sophisticated freshness. Profile and Personality This fragrance is for the man who seeks discreet sophistication, someone who values subtle luxury and naturalness. He has one foot in nature and the other in the city. He is calm, self-assured, and prefers silence to noise. Final Score: 9.1/10 Terre d’Hermès Eau Très Fraîche delivers a refreshing and refined interpretation of Hermès DNA. It loses a little in intensity compared to the original version, but gains in versatility for tropical climates and informal occasions. If you are looking for a citrus perfume with depth and class, this is an excellent candidate.
when I smell it, I get a headache
3hours longevity on my skin 🥲 nice scent, elegant for mature men. discounted. the price that some people want for this perfume on ebay for example is a funny joke
I just got a 12.5ml mini bottle of this beauty. Its a beautiful, watery take on TDH. Full of life, full of happiness, this is how spring and summer need to smell like. This is in the top 10 spring/summer fragrances i have ever smelled, EVER. This is also VERY, VERY CLOSE to Frederic Malle's Bigarade Concentree. Its almost the same, but this one is more watery...find a bottle while you still can. Seriously.
My partner has a bottle of this I bought him about 9 years ago. He doesn't wear scent everyday like I do so he's plenty left. I love it when he wears this. The geranium note is very prominent to me alongside the citrus. Maybe because the bottle has macerated for so long but the sillage and longevity are top notch fir a freshie.
This one, sadly discontinued, is like a really high quality Terry's Chocolate Orange (milk chocolate variety), with a very fresh and realistic orange note indeed. If you want to smell like Christmas-time chocolate then knock yourself out.
Kicking myself for buying this instead of the classic Terre D’Hermes— I blame myself for “wanting to try a Jeremy fragrance” as a younger wannabe scent snob. If TDH smells like a dirty orange close to the ground, then Eau Tres Fraiche smells like the highest orange on the tree, frozen solid thanks to an early winter frost. Yes, I would simply describe this as “frozen orange”, with a watery accord that smells like drinking fountain rather than a natural spring or ocean. This is the fragrance I reach for whenever I want to “use up” a less-prized bottle in my collection, something that feels obligatory rather than a scent I clamor for. I end up mostly wearing this around the house, when I haven’t showered and want to feel clean, something that won’t offend the people I live with, but won’t get me any compliments either. I’ve used up 80% of my bottle and I haven’t yet once received a compliment on it! However, I wouldn’t say I dislike it, I just have a very strange relationship with this fragrance. It’s not a scrubber, it just feels inelegant and “not like me.” Still, I HAVE used up 80% of the bottle, so I will say some nice things: it is remarkably cooling during the hottest heat, recalling an icy winter breeze blowing through a house that smells like Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. It is also rather affordable for a designer fragrance, and much nicer than the other “frozen orange” scent that comes to mind, D&G Light Blue Homme Intense.
If you can't find it at any online retailers, just go to eBay. There's a seller with a >99% positive rating who has now sold 140 of the 200ml bottles of this juice for around $169/each. And yes, they're authentic. I've purchased a few myself.
i love perseus so much i scoured the onlines for this as well
Opens quite sharp and synthetic for the first 10minutes. Almost like bugspray to my nose, HOWEVER after that initial blast it´s soooo goood. Very fresch, citrusy smell that resembles alot of Isola blue and the drydown is the classical hermes superb quality. A Fragrance worth owning in my eyes, if you can get a hold of it.
Smells awesome like orange juice ASIDE from it making me smell like I need a shower with bad underarm odor. So to sum it up this smells like you have been working all day in the orange grove handling oranges while sweating in the hot Florida sun and now need a shower.
