opens up beautifully. fully of energy and complexity but extremely quickly it settles into some generic, green sweetness. disappointing stuff.
Sheer story scenario, the feeling of the difference in a novel adaptation movie, nice extra character to it. The cooking process of plum jam.
Perfume 8, tested on paper, decant 10 ml Gentle, silky, spicy, and airy with a beautifully balanced and well rounded composition. I can detect cardamom, perhaps allspice, woods, and a sweet, creamy, even slightly powdery nuance. Looking at the official notes, the spices I picked up aren't listed, but cinnamon is, which I had initially ruled out. I believe the bergamot made my brain interpret it as a fresher spice, so I concluded it was cardamom. In my opinion, it's suitable for any season, depending on the amount applied and the time of day. It's unisex, though it leans slightly masculine. I had completely forgotten about this gem among the sea of other fragrances.
This is a beautiful, elegant fragrance. It's incredibly fresh, smooth, and natural-smelling. To my nose, it has nothing in common with spicebomb. Instead, it comes across as a refined green fragrance that is perfectly suited for summer.
Nice juniper smell. Not too cloying. Fresh and spicy. Similar to Bvlgari man in black but more pleasant, similar to Burberry London but less Christmasy. I like it. I would consider buying one.
This one keeps finding it's way back to my shelf from my "declutter" pile. Every time I decide to let it go, something keeps pulling me back. To my nose, this is definitely a masculine scent. Yet, every time I wear it, I get TONS of compliments. The opening is a spicy orange cinnamon. It has a bit of that note you find in just about every Xerjoff perfume... I can never quite put my finger on it... vetiver? hay? Damp and earthy, regardless. But then, this rolls into a powdery yet still spicy gem. In my mind, this smells like Christmas potpourri with apples and oranges and cinnamon soaked vanilla beans... And yet I am wearing it today, a hot sunny summer day and it's a crowd pleaser. Needless to say, I'll give it another few months on the shelf... see if I reach for it again.
Starts out like the OG Spicebomb and gets less spicy as it dries down and the iris+vetiver+vanilla start to take center stage. It does still retain some of that Spicebomb DNA but also starts to remind me of D600 by Carner Barcelona just a bit. After an hour or 2 the majority of the Spicebomb DNA is gone and you’re left with a semi-sweet vanilla and soft iris on a bed of vetiver. HdP is one of my favorite houses and this may be my favorite of the 5 I own. 9.25/10.
Edit : bought a bottle. Updating my thoughts. I have been trying to find a Spicebomb alternative that fixes the one issue I have with the original... it contains one of my least favourite notes:- saffron (though they actually do a good job with it) The opening of 1899 has a similar spicy peppery profile to that of Spicebomb, but constructed a bit differently. There is noticeable juniper with the spices, and a bit of cinnamon and dusty amber reminding me a little of Boucheron Jaipur. This dries down into it's own thing, turning into a more classic styled powdery amber & iris fragrance once the top notes have died off a little. From start to finish it's also not overly sweet which I appreciate. This is ultimately a standalone fragrance doing its own thing, but you can see where it pulls a little inspiration. Another I tried in my search for a Spicebomb alternative was Rehab. Its got that gross initio bubblegum- saffron in the dry-down, ick. Much prefer what its copying. Definitely not getting fat electrician like some comments further down. In fact I'm having trouble finding the vetiver here.
Awesome scent! A more fresh spicy take on Spice Bomb, with a lot more pepper in the beginning. Works well in all seasons (maybe in summer just stick with nights). Amazing layering combo with 1899 + Bois Imperial by Essential Parfums (thank me later)
I tried 1899 Hemingway by Histoires de Parfums tonight from a sample, and the first thing that came to mind was how much it reminded me of Lalique Pour Homme Equus by Lalique, a fragrance I really enjoy. The scent opens with a warm, spicy character, notes like juniper, black pepper, and cinnamon give it a slightly aromatic and energetic start. As it settles, you begin to notice a smooth blend of iris and woody notes, which add a subtle powdery elegance without becoming overly soft or sweet. The base carries a gentle warmth with amber, vanilla, and vetiver, giving the fragrance a refined, masculine finish. Overall it comes across as spicy, woody, and slightly powdery, with a classic masculine structure. That said, the resemblance to Lalique Pour Homme Equus was strong enough for me that it made me question the price difference. If you enjoy this style of fragrance, you can pick up Equus for around $35, and it delivers a very similar experience. Because of that, I’d personally recommend saving the money and going with Equus instead. Scent: 7.5/10 | Longevity: 7.5/10 | Projection: 7/10 | Overall: 7/10
Nose Note #872 Is Histoires de Parfums an another niche brand, that does a lot of dupes like Roja Dove, Boadicea the Victorious, Vilhelm Parfumerie, Nishane, Montale, Mancera and many others, you name them? Because this is Spicebomb, deadass... It's a more transparent, a little less sweet, slightly weaker, a tad bit less soapy (in my understanding) and maybe a little less spicy version of Spicebomb. Like Spicebomb was an EDP and this is an EDT, that would be a perfect explanation. But man... Depending on availability this can cost more than double the price of Spicebomb!!! A weaker version of Spicebomb for more money! I guess you could say this smells a bit more natural and a tiny-miny more niche that Spicebomb (but that's more of a marketing trick, because you are paying more and it's a small niche brand). Seriously, it's Spicebomb, don't be fooled... Honestly, Nuke / Eau de Spice clone by Fragrance World is not much different from the original thing and this, but check the price tag... Just saying 8.5/10, I still love the DNA a lot though
Coziness in a bottle. Reminds me of "Arroz con leche", a mexican dessert, but in the best way possible.
nasıl daha önce benzetilmemiş anlamadım ama bu bildiğiniz fırında yeni pişen havuçlu tarçınlı kek kokuyor ne zaman sıksam kolumu falan yiyesim geliyo
I have had this sample sitting untested for years. A YouTube review reminded me to try it. What a wonderful surprise this is. This opens beautifully on my skin. My first thought is “wow, what a well crafted scent”. Masculine, warn, bury my nose in your neck, kind of feeling from it. I feel happy smelling this. I feel content. I want this in my life. It is a keeper.
More vanilla and creamy spicebomb.
Initio Rehab EDP.
Arguably one of the best offering from this brand. That opening, creamy but fresh, with a hint of cinnamon, is to die for. The materials are top tier, you can really tell the differences between this one and thousands others designer fragrances. Unfortunately the performance is horrid. Last only for 2 hours and disappear into a skin scent completely. I don't know if i'm just unlucky and got a bad batch since i got it for cheap from a discounter or my skin chemistry just doesn't mix well with this one or maybe because it actually does suck ass in term of performace. Shame. 7/10.
This leans old-timey barbershop/aftershave, with the classic HDP soapy note forward in this mix. On my skin the orange blossom is very prominent initially and comes across like gardenia with the iris. The cinnamon and amber took a while to develop and give it a spiced warm backbone. The vetiver is very minimal on me and I would not say it smells similar to Fat Electrician, though the concept is similar. This one is more masculine than I want for daily wear but it could be unisex for the right person. I would like to smell this on other people to see what other notes can come out of it. I really love a lot of HDP but this one isn't my personal style.
A lovely creamy barbershop scent, very well blended so I don't get any of the notes in isolation. Smells like a gentleman, like the kind of man who doesn't have to prove his masculinity. The slightest bit too vanillic for me but I'd love this on someone else!
Never smelled spicebomb. But from this, I mainly just get cinnamon and some aromatics. It's very smoothly blended, nothing sharp, cloying or headache-inducing to be found. The vanilla amber base can be picked up after drydown, but cinnamon still stays the predominant note all throughout. I like it very much, perfect scent for december.
What a masterpiece, HDP is an amazing underrated bvrand, this are just masterpieces
Not for me. I definitely agree with the person a couple of reviews down, it’s similar to Fat Electrian by ELDO. But while I disliked that fragrance, this a bit more palatable, but I still get that sickly sweetness. Perhaps it’s the way vetiver and vanilla blend together?
Reviewing a bottle from 2024.1899 Hemingway was launched in 2013. This is a beautiful aromatic and softly spicy vanilla amber. Hemingway opens with bergamot and citrusy juniper with a peppery zing. Soft spicy cinnamon and powdery iris blend in with imperceptible orange blossom. The dry down mix of quality vanilla, amber and vetiver works. Not Spicebomb, not overtly masculine or barbershop. Not overpowering or cloying- just perfect . Nicely blended. Quality - excellent Unisex- totally Performance- very good Warm and powdery amber spice - perfect for fall. 1899 deserves it's high rating on Fragrantica. 8.5/10
not really my type of thing, the vanilla/vetiver combo kind of reminds me of fat electrician. has a heavy dose of citrus and sweetness in the top notes and for some reason it smells leathery to me even though that’s not in the notes. smells like someone who drinks whiskey and sits by a fire reading a book in a leather lounge chair
One of the favs. Extremely pleasant and addictive. To me it smells fruitier and more citrusy than suggested on the site. The smell is familiar. It reminds me of some fruity bubblegum.
Four hours ago: Grassy to my nose except this isn't just that. The notes are: Top: Italian Bergamot, Juniper, Black Pepper Heart: Orange Blossom, Florentine Iris, Cinnamon Base: Vanilla, Vetiver, Amber So reading that, I'd assume this grass-like note is either the iris or vetiver (I'm not too familiar with florals) but in my opinion as someone who isn't experienced with these notes, it's an interesting take on grass Just now: This has dried down to be absolutely lovely! I don't want to have to wait all that time though to go out and enjoy whiffs of myself
Ts gooder than a mf
This is an ART. It smells like a castle full of old books but you feel relaxed while walking around. I sleep while sniffing my wrist very high quality i feel every layered note like a new lover. If you love all things vintage you will love this. It looks very similar to Spicebomb but.. 1899 smells photorealistic ART-RELAXİNG
The opening is a bit unusual- peppery but in a fresh green way with lots of juniper. On a hot day it’s just a bit too spicy to be an easy wear. At night when it’s a bit colder it’s a different story - it sparkles and comes alive. The dry down is just amazing. I don’t really get the similarity to Spice Bomb and Man in Black. This is nicer and more interesting than both. I love it!
I blind purchased a 15mL traveller of 1899 out of curiosity, to make up the difference on another order (HdP 1740, free delivery) and, frankly, because I expected to like this scent a whole lot more than I actually did. I had sampled Initio Rehab long before, and (in the right climes) liked that without feeling compelled to stump up for a bottle. With the 1899 note pyramid, its purportedly 'classically masculine' leaning nature, and all the positive reviews, I just did not envisage the prospect of being underwhelmed. Sensationseeker (below) has it spot on - to an extent. I first wore this on a sunny Winter's day of 18C ('feels like" 14C). At the opening, the scent seems quite ok (take it outside in crisp air, it's nice), although it's still somewhat lacking in 'presence'. It's (post EDIT) definitely something I imagine my father might wear to the office, back in the 60's or 70's, within the initial 2 hours of scent progression. I made the mistake of spraying more on, after the first many sniffs of that first full wear; which I think was a mistake - it became super cloying for me within a short(ish) time. That "dusty musty brownish" place referred to below, I just couldn't come to grips with at all. No amount of (very mild) spice helped beyond, for me. Characterless and cloying, and lacking in distinctiveness to me. My only solution was to layer it with TF Grey Vetiver, which actually worked to take the edge off the cloying aspects and inject a bit of tart citrus to offset. Time may prove me wrong, of course, but I've formed the view that the more I wear this piece, the less I like it. This will go on my list of pieces to gift, trade or sell to those more appreciative. I'll wear Guerlain's Jicky EDP instead - that kicks this out of the game park.
