Private Label

I was between with Lorenzo Villoresi Patchouli and this but this is way better in my opinion. Is medicinal its dirty a little bit greenish it is perfection.

Gorgeous, one of the most complete scent in its category. Easy to superficially compare but I find it unique. Strangely enough my nose has a bit of a blind spot to the patchouli in the manner it's presented here. What stands out most here are the vetiver and papyrus over this dry almost oud-y effect. Not super sweetened or softened in any way. I find it's actually quite natural and not prominently ambery-woody which happens to be rare in these dark western scents. Good stuff.

Opening is a bit medicinal and off-putting, but the drydown is magical giving off a dry, earthy forest vibe, with a leathery accord popping through, and hints of minty smokiness. I didn't get the BBQ accord that others have. This can be a bit polarising on the opening, but the drydown is addictive, I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist!

Post work, sniffing through the scent-drobe again. It's really relaxing.. helps me remember the beauty of the world in the midst of the madness and chaos. So I got around to this one and was like..why does this smell so good? The patchouli here is complementing, adding atmosphere, 1% moisture and about 00.1% sweetness. Just enough to curb the green woody bitterness. And the sandalwood is smoothing out some areas while leaving others untouched. But this is a vetiver fragrance. An earthy, leather, dry, smoky, woody vetiver. Though smoky, I get no bbq on my skin. In character, it's no nonsense classy, contrasting candor with mystery and edge with polish. In it's restraint and relative simplicity it does feel.. private. Unto itself. Being almost coincidentally exclusionary in that it doesn't seek to please everyone. No frills here and I absolutely love that there is no sweetness. I find it addictive. Unless it's an extreme case, I've long stop tracking the endurance of a fragrance. I just enjoy it while it lasts. However I couldn't help but notice that I've smelled this many days later on clothes. "Side note" I thought Incident Diplomatique sat somewhere between this and Psychedelique so I passed it along. I saw another guy here who pretty much noticed the same thing. Though I dont agree that if you have 1 Jovoy you dont much need to get others. I've tried a few that smell nothing like the three I mentioned here. Case in point, Private Label and Psychedelique are very different from each other. "2nd side note" Cécile Zarokian has become one of favorite perfumers. I only this and Royal Tobacco by her, but I have to try more from her. She's excellent.

I grew to like this one because the opening is rough. It kind of reminds me of a meaty barbeque sauce, which is unusual and not very pleasant. As it dries down, it retains that unctuous, dense masculine edge, but it does get slightly medicinal and mentholic, which is...interesting. I've worn this a few times around the house, but I don't really know when I would wear it out. I like my masculine scents, but my worry is that untrained noses (and potentially vegans) might find this smell off-putting 6.9/10

Very interestingly wierd mature gourmandish-frosty blue-green scent. The top note starts oily boozy, for the first 15 minutes it holds on with smell of smoked pork neck and mustard, then it moves into a completely unrelated menthol scent of an ancient ointment for sore joints, what the...neither one is bad, as a combination it is extremely wild. Good sillage, longevity is subpar, it stays at its maximum for about 2-3 hours and then completely fades away, no gradual retreat. I dont know what to think about it. You could probably pull this off even to night theatre performance. Will have to try this once again in near future... Attempt No. 2 - colder morning - no boozyness or oily start, not s much meaty, jumps directly to menthol and repeatedly oscilates between minty ointment, pleasant peppermint drink, tad of smoky incense and hard black leather. It is dominant scent for confident wearer, you dont have to take on bikers jacket, but a substantial determination in your persona should be present at days of wearing. Sillage confirmed strong, but longevity for sure not eternal niether long lasting. Did not last on skin from morning till lunch.

4#Today I am taking a closer look at Jovoy Paris Private Label. I am a male in my mid-30s, with a balanced Central European diet, well-hydrated, and no alcohol, cigs, meds, garlic, onion, coffee, workout or significant stress before this outdoor testing. Five sprays from my new decant- two between each of my shoulders and clavicles for a regular wearing and one on the top of my wrist for breaking down the notes. Today it is 16°C, a little humid after last night's rain, the sky is overcast. Ideal conditions for PL. I have a problem wearing strong vetivers indoors; I tend to feel easily overwhelmed, but outdoors, it is something else. My first experience with papyrus was when I got a sample of Maison Crivelli Papyrus Moleculaire by the talented Leslie Girard(Amouage Imitation Man). I was truly impressed by the papyrus note supported by amyris which I also love, but the scent had an abysmal longevity and performance. The Private Label has an average longevity (5+ hours) with medium-to-strong performance, but stick to my clothes until the next day, weird. The dry and boozy papyrus I like is there right off the bat. A couple of minutes later it's accompanied by semi-sweet patchouli and a spearmint-cold, BBQ-like vetiver. The vetiver note gets stronger with time and somewhat smokier. It may be the vetiver itself or because of labdanum or birch. I couldn't tell for sure. The base notes feel uniform. I already have a similar vetiver bomb in my collection, Alûstre Wash of Chilled Vetiver. That one is great for sunny days, while Privet Label hits the spot on a rainy, slow day with heavy air full of earthy dirt and dampness, or even in winter. The scent cuts through all this swampiness or, eventually, a white frozen landscape, leaving behind a trail of a green and smoky private memory of a long time cold fireplace at home.

Very nice blend of patchouli and vetiver.Its masculine scent and nothing bright here.If you are afraid of patchouli but need something sophisticated it’s the one.Everything is well balanced here and nothing is off putting atleast to my nose.

Nuclear vetiver bomb!!!

Oh boy. This is one of the best patchouli scents if not the best out there . The opening of the papyrus and Vetiver with the patchouli hits you in the face. Dries down into a lovely elegant labdanum cedar wood patchouli mix. Longevity: 10/10 Projection: 8/10 Silage: 10/10 Price: it’s worth its price Big love ❤️

This is nice, very similar with Dark Aoud from Montale. Patchouli and Oud mix forward, the Oud is more are the medicinal end rather than animalic end, the patchouli is more earthy than chocolately. Lacks sweetness and that will probably turn some people off, but this isn't a type of fragrance to go out clubbing. It's more gothic, more of a statement. but it's approachable. If I didn't already own Dark Aoud, I would probably pick it up, it has good quality.

This fragrance has been baffling me for a while. I gave my sample to my husband. He’s been wearing it on and off and every time I have to ask him what are you wearing today? my impression of it was that it’s of it cold spicy woody. I was not expecting any of these notes once I looked at the breakdown I find it starts off a little bit more harsh that cold feeling a bit of spice and then once he comes back home and it’s worn into a skin for 8+ hours it starts to smell very lived in woody spicy. I can be very sensitive to these dry smoky notes like papyrus and birch so I’m very surprised to see them here because to my nose they’re not reading smoky or too strong really they’re reading as kind of a depth and spice without being too nose tingling spicy. Ultimately, this is a sample he’ll finish but we’re not in love with. I wouldn’t have been able to wear the sample. It leans far too masculine for me even though I often reach for masculine leaning fragrances.

If Amouage Silver Oud and Encre Noire A L'Extreme had a baby, it would smell like this. Take away the "fecal" from silver oud but keep that rich, woody, oud-y character from it. The second you spray it you get a blast of that rooty vetiver but it quickly dials itself down into a smooth, bold and sophisticated woody scent with a silky base. I'm a massive fan of Silver Oud, not a big fan of Encre Noire but this is something I can really appreciate and enjoy. It's leaning more towards a wearable silver oud than encre noire a l'extreme so I can't complain. Hyper masculine and assertive but still rich and classy.

Cecile Zarokian is just phenomenal at what she does. First time I sprayed it on I thought to myself "Hmmmm, this is a nice masculine fragrance" It did not seem like anything out of the world. Second time I gave it a full wearing, I noticed that I kinda started enjoying the patchouli. Gave it another shot and today I can smell Oud somehow, not the raw animalic oud but a real oud nonetheless. I think the papyrus mixed with the labdanum and birch creates an amazing environment for the creamy sandalwood to sit on. Reminds me of a refined Encre Noire A L'extreme. I might get a bottle if I find a good deal.

Private Label combines leathery birch tar and labdanum with smoky Java vetiver and dry papyrus to create a masculine leather profile. In the shadow of these notes, patchouli adds a rich, earthy sweetness that prevents the fragrance from becoming one-sided. Balanced as it may be, it is still aggressive and animalic at its core—more biker jacket than book. Personally, I can’t imagine wearing this without smelling like a tough guy wanna-be. 6/10

Is it normal that I only smell pure oud from the start to the end?

Does anyone else get Amouage Epic vibes? Reasonable performance, good for the older generation.

Private Label is basically a dry, smoky mix of vetiver and patchouli, with papyrus sitting on top. The smoke is there, but never overpowering—it just adds some grit. As it settles, you get this earthy, leathery vibe from the vetiver–papyrus-patchouli combo, and the papyrus really gives it a unique edge. The drydown softens with birch and sandalwood, rounding it out without adding sweetness. It actually reminds me a lot of Encre Noire à L’Extrême, but with papyrus leading the way. This is a masculine scent through and through, perfect for woody and vetiver lovers who want something bold, mature, and well-made.

This is the most masculine scent I’ve ever smelt. There is no vanilla or musc notes that pull it away from the dry, bitter, smoky masculine extreme. It is pure dryness and smokiness, almost like inhaling smoke from burning hay. Papyrus and Patchouli dominate the scent, creating a blend of strong bitterness and slight sweetness. The leather in here is not silky cuir. It’s a stiff leather jacket fresh out of a factory. Very interesting, not so wearable.

It’s so masculine I can’t tell if it’s giving “Big D Energy or Small D Energy. Way too challenging. A classy rich grandpa could pull it off. Too much of a “70s powerhouse” style. I’d never wear this. You really have to like hypermasculine fragrances.

I'll write 2 explanations here. 1. This is a dry, smokey patchouli, with a fresh hit from the vetiver and some papyrus making it seem very much boozy. The smoke isn't overpowering. The scent is quite well powered. It's not overbearing or so strong like a few smoke fragrances that make it unbearable or unwearable. After the burnt wood smoke smells fades, you're left with a patchouli, papyrus, vetiver combo. It's beautiful. Not at all unwearable or even hard to wear. This feels very very much like my new signature scent. 2. To those who are familiar with amouage silver oud, take away the cheesy funk, tone down the burnt smoke to 2/10, add some vetiver, and this is it. A beautiful fragrance much more wearable and cozy. Where silver oud shrieks, this subtly remains. It's not as heavy or oily as that. Personally i absolutely love this and prefer this to silver oud as it's easy to wear while maintaining the same vibe. My personal choice of oud would be king blue from amouage. So if you have the budget, instead of silver oud, get king blue and private label. Layer them and see the magic.

It's giving me 'smells like I've walked into an Egyptian hookah shop' vibes. The papyrus really stands out to make it unique.
