There are so many perfumes in the "similar to" section...! I don't have many of rhwm and have not smelt most. However, Indi is NOT the same. Sunny side up is warm while Indi is fresh. They're both molecular, but not really that similar - only to betale who don't know that there's a multitude of fragrances in the category. To me, this is actually the most similar to 601 - Amber & Guaiac Wood from N.C.P Olfactives. Wearing them side-by-side they're very similar, except SSU has a faint coconut creaminessanf slight earthiness, while 601 has a faint milky creaminess and isn't nearly as earthy. Otherwise, they're very similar. And expensive. 601 has also been compared to Le Labo Gaiac 10 - I wonder how similar it is to SSU. SSU is definitely just Iso E Super. Compared to Iso E (like Escentric Moleculea Molecule 01), SSU has a coconuttiness that is the same as in Blanche Bête. It's like Vlanche Bête Super Light, actually. I hate Blanche Bête because it's very suffocating, but if you want SSU on steroids, it might be what you're looking for. SSU has quite intimate sillage thought. If you want something stronger in the same category, I'd recommend Fahad Regal: a non-sweet vanilla with soft black pepper and a note of dusty road :)
It’s truly lovely. To my nose, the most prominent note is sandalwood. It instantly reminds me of those sandalwood incense sticks that used to fill little boutiques and hippie shops back in the early 2000s. That nostalgic, soft, woody scent is what stands out the most to me. The fragrance is incredibly pleasant and easy to wear. Performance is on the lighter side, with a short longevity and a projection that stays very close to the skin. Still, I think that’s part of its charm. It’s perfect for everyday wear, whenever you want to feel comfortable and relaxed, or for a day by the pool or at the beach. It’s simply a super pleasant, comforting scent.
Sandalwood and iso e and nothing else:( I was so excited for this to arrive and now im sad and disappointed. Scrubbed off
Absolutely adore this. I love coconut scents in general but I love that this doesn't smell sweet. It isn't like fresh fruit either. More like -coconut milk- and I'm into it. Wish it lasted longer and was a bit stronger but other than that it's 100% my cup of tea. Dare I say my new summer favorite.
Leaving an updated review. I have been going through my collection looking for fragrances that are heat-wave appropriate, and added this to my list to try. Honestly, it smells so much like my sunscreen that they pair well together. On no planet would I ever wear this at night. Unfortunately, it's a very weak fragrance and the drydown is super soapy― like all that's left after a while is a very ultra clean soapy smell.
I really love how creamy and woody this scent is. I like a lot of fragrances from this house, but the performance of them is abysmal.
It’s a very creamy sandalwood… for like a minute and then I become mostly anosmic to it. I haven’t been able to detect any sweetness whatsoever lol, however, I can smell the woody note for hours. I’d say this is a teens’ Santal 33. It's definitely younger than le labo's, but I enjoy both.
I adore this perfume. It has my three favourite notes: vanilla, sandalwood, iso e super. Sadly, my skin destroys most perfume and this just does not last on me, which is such a shame. If it had better longevity it would be my signature scent - it's beachy, coconutty (creamy, not grassy) and perfect for summer.
Not sure why but this gives me gipsy water or angel dust vibes. Not the same of course but in the same realm on my skin. I get smoky, sweet and woody - no coconut. Not a typical summer scent for me rather a cooler weather intimate scent.
Initially a lemon custard (seems amyris has that citrussy effect), turning more toward sandalwood with time. The coconut is more of the toasted kind at this stage. If it had more sillage I'd buy, but it's a good candidate for close quarter encounters hehe
For me this is a real summer scent. It is light and soft on the skin. If you like woody notes this is definitely a scent to try or if you want to explore woody notes in perfumes this is a perfume to start with. I don't think the scent contains notes of vanilla and coconut and it is definitely not sweet.
At first, a nice woodsy vanilla with powdery aspect. A bit of coconut and jasmine that add creaminess and floral note. I don't like coconut, but this one is very soft. Sunny Side Up eventually shifts into a skin scent this is office appropriate and cozy like a sweater. The journey was strange and I wish it was a bit more linear. The vanilla by the end of the day is basically gone.
On me, this is mostly dry sandalwood, iso e, and creamy coconut. The ambrette and vanilla do just enough in the background to sweeten things up the slightest bit- but this isn’t gourmand sweet. It’s dry, creamy and woody. Absolutely perfect for a warm coconut skin scent.
Interesting take on the sandalwood note here. To me, it opens up very coconuty and then turns straight into that warm, spice wood. Its almost a little oriental. Vanilla is REALLY faint on me, coconut scent goes away after a minute too. The powder and musk note show up a little later. I mean, to me this isnt a very feminine fragrance, it is unisex, id even say leaning to male fragrance. The strong woody scent is too much on me, sadly i dont like it, its nausiating. First juliette has a gun that im not happy with. Its just okay. If you are buying this because of the coconut, sunny, summery vibe - thats not it! A little missleading, but its okay. Good parfume, not for me tho.
Ants is so funny, I totally see it. I also think it smells vaguely of whiskey. This definitely has the jhag not a perfume DNA, but creamier and the iso E is definitely detectable. I think it's nice and cozy like an expensive lotion/body butter. I agree with the various glossier comparisons as well, especially on the dry down (most like soie and doux). Very glad I tested it on my skin first because I'm not sure what I was expecting based on the note breakdown (I don't think any one note stands out more than the rest) and it's not quite my vibe, but I can see this being someone's everyday scent. If I hugged someone wearing this I would compliment them
This reminds me of glossier soie and a bit of kayali vanilla milk ...omg soooooooo so so good. If anyone like those types of creamy skin scents with a bit of a woody background...get this!
Woody, ashy, dusty. Church pillars or Cathedral’s come to mind. OH MY GOD after sitting on the skin for a while this becomes a creamy coconut smell. I will say, this smell kind of goes unnoticed when I put it on, there’s very little projection. ‘Angel Dust’ by Fugazzi reminds me of this but that one is sweeter.
I don't mind ISO E Super. It's in my bottles of "Lady Vengeance", and "I Don't Know What". At least Lady Vengeance has so many more prominent notes. I don't mind it in Sunny Side Up either...I think it's the supporting cast for the whole show. Not sweet except in a woodsy way. I don't get Vanilla (and I'm so sensitive to vanilla), nor coconut, and I don't get Jasmine either except for the first few seconds of spray...so fleeting. I get woods including Sandalwood, and lots of it, musk, and ambrette. Well, "lots" in terms of a skin scent. It's fine and likeable, but not full bottle worthy to me. I do have to say I don't understand what the name Sunny Side Up has to do with this scent. According to the Juliette has a Gun website, it's "Happy therapy, to enlighten your day and lift up your mind. Because we all deserve a little walk on the sunny side." That's quite a reach for me given that my association with the term refers to eggs. Anywho....
This smells like warm, dewy grass in a clearing in the woods there is something utterly sunlit about this sent, its one of my three fave JHAG’s Ode to dulness, Xskins and Sunny side up honestly all of them are an any day, every day, kinda reach for me. This is not a gourmand or a sunscreen offering. This is an adult olfactory experience, it’s like a memory somehow. Longevity- 3/4 hours Projections- close to skin Scent profile - 8.5/10 Purchase- Absolutely
After wearing samples for a few weeks, I decided to reach for SSU today. I got a compliment after someone reached in for a hug. It is warm, and I finally understand the solar effect of perfume after wearing this scent. It radiates when I'm out in the heat. After spraying it on at 6:30 this morning, I still smell it in on me after 16 hours.
Blind buy, wasn’t what I was expecting. Just Woody, herbal notes, difficult to capture the vanilla, coconut part of the fragrance. Doesn’t really give off ‘summer’, at a push there’s a slight salt smell. Delicate fragrance, but lasts 5 minutes on my skin. Certainly not for date nights/events as this won’t make any kind of statement at all.
Sunny Side Up, S.S.U., is a wonderful, light, second skin type fragrance. While S.S.U. doesn't blast me with coconut, sandalwood, vanilla or any other listed note, I do get a strong dose of Iso Super E and I'd be willing to bet that most who are familiar with Iso Super E will be quick to pick it up here. S.S.U. is a fragrance that I am glad to have in my collection for many reasons. It's a dumb reach fragrance for all year. I could see S.S.U. not being quite potent enough for the coldest days especially if you're outside. Although I would LOVE to wear S.S.U. watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Sunny Side Up is a fragrance whose beauty lies in its simplicity. Just like eggs at breakfast. Simple, reliable, predictable, and classic. That's Sunny Side Up. My only complaint is longevity. I will admit that I seem to have dryer than average skin but S.S.U. is not a beast by any stretch of the imagination. I don't find this fragrance to be pathetically weak, but be warned that reapplication may be necessary. With that being stated I can't urge anyone on the fence to not let S.S.U.'s lack of powerful strength stop you from enjoying it's beauty. The final thing I really want to compliment Sunny Side Up on is it's bottle design. The yellow-orange cap and white bottle really brings me a considerable amount of joy on the days I take the time to appreciate the replica egg from the birds eye view of the bottle. It reminds me that life is best enjoyed when not taken so seriously. - 8/10 Overall - Spring, Summer, Fall, Early Winter - Daytime - Location/ Situation: High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia, mid October, 1030AM... The first ten minutes is just a pungent jasmine, the drydown is nice soft sandlewood vanilla. i wouldnt get a full bottle but maybe a travel size.
lasts 1 mili seconds on skin
This is not a summer coconut sunscreen perfume. Sandalwood is the star. It's woody...the lactonic element from the coconut is sweetened by the vanilla... I love perfume, but this one is what my best friend says is my signature scent.
This is a more woody leaning smell rather than coconut and there isn't any sweetness at all. I really like this scent because it reminds me of dry wood in the in the summer, but if you're looking for anything beachy and sweet you won't find it here. The sillage is very intimate and it lasts around 3-6 hours on me. I like to later with this since it's quite simple.
This is sandalwood, Iso E Super, vanilla and coconut - but it's not sweet or gourmande; the coconut and vanilla are barely there. Simple, calm, sunny - at least to me. Smells like California. I like perfumes like Molecule 01 and 02, and those kind of light, molecular scents, so this is right up my alley when I don't want to wear anything distinct :) And still, even though this doesn't smell like much, it's a compliment-getter.
Literally just sandalwood with some iso e super. Luckily the iso e is gently in the background as I’m not a huge fan but here it’s keeping the woody vibes warm and smooth. It’s actually really lovely. I wish it had the coconut and jasmine notes listed as I can’t detect them at all.
Nothing about this gives sun. It’s thick and deep and woody. Too powdery and intense for the way it’s marketed as a summer scent.
I like coconut scents but sometimes certain coconuts smell like ants to me. And to the guy lower in the comments saying we’re all confusing ants for termites/termite damage- NO. I know the difference between ants and termites well and I can 100% smell ants. There have actually been articles written about how certain people can smell ants and others can’t. That out of the way— this does smell strongly of ants in the opening. The dry down much less so but I do occasionally still get a whiff of ant. I like the vanilla, coconut, and sandalwood combo so I still like it overall for warmer months. I bought a travel size and I don’t think I’ll get a full bottle though.
