Imagine this: A fine leather chair that has been cleaned with baby wipes.
Sweet, powdery, a bit indolic. My favorite feminine leather, though it sometimes resembles baby powder-scented deodorant from afar. @mschnabel666: thanks for the tip about the cap!
So happy to find a bottle of this for a reasonable price! I get chalky orange push ups and soft, plush suede. If leather could be powdered- just dreamy. The subtle sweet resinous styrax is also very present. The person below me is correct- the soft belly of a puppy… This is an easy leather to reach for daily, even the leather haters would probably like it. Just beautiful!
Like the warm belly of an English Mastiff puppy
I am looking for this scent ❤️
I am dying over here... after all these years I FIXED the loose cap!! LMFAO! Inside the loose cap that "sits" on the bottle is the gold BAND that belongs on the bottle. It's about 1 in thick. Put your finger inside the cap and wiggle that down/loose if you can. Once you have the gold band loose in your hand (away from the cap) affix onto the bottle pushing down- without pushing the nozz- I used my fingernails. Then hopefully it STAYS and that allows the cap to click on and remain clicked on. So far, I'm good! That cap is ON strong. YAY!!!!
I have an old unboxed partial bottle of the 2006 version that I'd happily send for free within the UK, dm me if interested. Edit: this has been claimed.
(Review for 2006 version) I love this one. I don’t get a ton of development on my skin, but that’s just fine by me. Within minutes of application I get a lovely easy to wear leather, that for me skews feminine, although on the right man this would be an absolute slam dunk. The florals are blended so I can’t pick them apart, but layered over the leather from the birch and styrax, you get the impression of smooth buttery leather. I sold off my sample of Cuir de Russie by Chanel, so I can’t compare them side by side, but I find this much more wearable. And the Lancôme never dries down to the scent of drool, like the Chanel does on me. Worth picking up if you can find a bottle.
After finally getting my hands on it, I'm not sure how I feel about it. To my nose this is mostly styrax, not birch. It is not like Cuir de Russie imo, since that one has much more birch and a lush floral bouquet. My CdR is a very vintage EdC, though. This is definitely not bad, but oddly feels less complex than I would have thought, and it's not a photo realistic leather. It's more like the leather note in Bvlgari Black. I expected a more genuine leather note like in Sikkim, Cabochard, or CdR. It's uncharacteristically warm today, though, and I can't smell the sillage. I can only smell this with my nose pressed to the testing paper. I want to pull it out again in cooler weather.
this is amazing. A superlative scent creation that transcends. Honeyed leather in a very comfortable warmth feeling. It's like a hybrid of Bal de Versailles without animalic tone and Cuir de Russie with molasses. Beautiful and addictive
Oily, bitter leather. The instant the cap fell off, I smelled the bright top notes of Cuir. Cuir has an intense and full color. Orris root, bergamot, mandarin and patchouli with hints of cocoa and creamy wood. Citrus and bergamot remind me of my beloved Shalimar, leather is Cuir Cannage style, and patchouli is from Coromandel. Combining a part of each of the above three perfumes, Cuir, which is warm, spicy and gentle, can be born. In my opinion, Lancome Cuir, which is also birch tar leather, is not like the typical Cuir de Russie. Lancome Cuir is rougher. The amber in the base note is removed and replaced by woody fragrance. It is not as fine as Cuir de Russie, thick and deep. It is round and round like Dior Cuir Cannage, but far less noble and imposing than Cuir de Russie, as bright as gold. Cuir's exotic style is outstanding. It has such a characteristic that other leathers do not have. It is moderate in volume, stable and light. For women, the performance of the first half may be too masculine.
This is fantastic! Cuir de Lancome is a smooth, round, and intriguing scent that evokes a sense of calm, sophisticated refinement. This is a lovely, powdery, and refined tea. The durability should be improved, but the projection and silage are excellent. This smell is incredible. It is really fluffy and opulent in a very traditional style. Beautiful, warm, and inviting smell.
If anyone has tested the 1930's vintage as well as this 2006 version, I would love to hear your thoughts on how they compare. I love leather chypres such as Cabochard, and wondering if this is something I should try to find as an antique, since you can still get it without too much trouble. Although this modern juice also sounds very good, and I'm considering that as well!
Has this fragrance been discontinued?
Smooth and plush, Cuir de Lancome has just the slightest birch tar in its leather, rendering just the right layer of smokiness in its opening, at first bold and imposing, then descending into a magnificent floral polish in its heart. I pick up the presence of hawthorn (one of my favorite notes, an anisic, powdery, hay-like floral) as it combines with a muted indolic jasmine. What's most noteworthy is the presence of styrax, which extends the leather into the drydown. The resinoid from the Styrax (Liquidambar styraciflua) has exceptional fixative quality, especially with florals, and has a curious styrene-like quality to its top note. Here, it also extends the top notes of the leather accord into the base paired with orris, delicately equipoised, making for a stunning skin scent. Cuir de Lancome is a beautiful and underrated floral leather.
This is fabulous! I only wish all the Lancomes were of such great quality. And I am sure they would sell even more than the common, generic frags Lancome is flooding the market with. Cuir de Lancome is not a straightforward leather... it is a soft, round, very fascinating fragrance that conveys a concept of relaxed, elegant sophistication. My nose was remined of Cuir Beluga (a vanilla suède frag, as well a bit far from the pure leather smell). You get this hint of expensive leather purse but it vanishes in a few minutes; jasmine, a non-invadent one, then ylang ylang. After the flowery wave, you are left with a powdery irris that is contamined by an apricot note (this is osmanthus!!), delicious, not sweet but powdery and refined. The lasting power could be better, but I assume you can't have it all. This fragrance is a marvel. Treat yourself!
More than saffron, I smell here an intense scent of cinnamon - and I don't like it, because I am one of those people who believe that spices should stay in the kitchen, never to enter a perfume (!)... unless in really imperceptible doses. As in almost non-existing. Not the case here. This cinnamon-like note is so dominant that spoils it for me. The drydown comes much suave, way better, but too late for me to enjoy this number. Overall, it is a lovely fragrance, but a "deja vu" sharing affinities with many good perfumes of the past in particular - such as Shalimar, the first Joop - and many of the leather/powder combos more common in recent times. A masterpiece in any case, anyone can tell! Have a full bottle (and yes... that cap doesn't even stay on the bottle... it is ridiculous!) if anyone craves it more than I do. Contact me in case :)
This doesn't exist on the Lancome website. Are you all buying old bottles off Ebay or grey market juice ?
An elegant french leather. It feels smooth and smells expensive. No nasty surprises which cuir fragrances are often tempted to cause upon their user. I love such surprises, and for me Cuir is too polished to truly fascinate, but it also has enough quality and depth for me to celebrate. ****(*)
Ethereal fresh opening, soft and plush, smells like high quality leather goods on a powdery background. It gets sweeter and timid floral notes emerge in the heart but can't compete with the powdery aspect that dominates. As it begins to dry down, the powdery notes make way to spicy ones.
A Blind buy as I try to scoop up any leather scent that gets great reviews. If you're very serious just go ahead and get TF Ombre Leather 16. Perfection on it's own, but add what you like. This I get more licorice than I do leather. I much prefer my Hermes Kelly Caleche & EL Azuree. Now THOSE smell like a beautiful leather to me, of course w/ other notes. This is sooooo light. Def not beast mode & I am not getting the leather. Reform maybe? I have no idea. Supposedly it's been disc'd, yet you can still buy REAL sealed boxes. My guess on this one is they are still producing it, selling it to the outlets in a watered down version. I do not get what everyone is raving about at all. This is a skin scent of light licorice, with a slight leather vibe on me. I'm not anosmic to leather accords either, I def get them in all of the others I mentioned. *Natalie N. on Youtube*
I blind bought this for a good price, and I have to vent on that cheap loose cap and cheap nozzle! It's like they spent the whole budget on the bottle and juice, and had nothing leftover so the cap is loose/shoddy and the actual nozzle is just a cheap gold piece of metal. I have seen better nozzles on Playboy scents. But... the juice. This is so good. I was heavy handed. About 4 sprays on my skin, let dry, then I dressed in a tee and used about 4 more. It was potent and sillage/longevity was strong but never overwhelming or cloying. It's a very quality smooth scent. Classy and elegant, but also cozy and dry-yet-warm. At first, it's very masculine. Saffron and bergamot burst forth with the leather right away. Unlike perfumes where the top notes last 30 seconds, this sticks around and the mandarin comes out after about 30 minutes. It's noticeable but light- a juicy orange citrus. Still very leathery. Then (after 1-2 hours) it goes into a very smooth, classy feminine powder leather, almost like buttery soft suede. The ylang makes it a bit sweet-waxy. Then I went to bed. In the morning my shirt was still a suede-woody-powder. It never really went "smoky" on me. And doesn't smell dated unless you compare it to modern fruity florals. There wasn't any vintage dust/skank to this at all. Absolutely worth it. I would love a back-up, but I got a good price on this, not a cheap price. lol...
I was gifted a selection of testers from a friend and this was amongst them. Leather notes for me can be a bit tricky, but in this it is very well done. It's 'leather-lite', a restrained and refined lady like leather with slightly sweet finish and none of the tarry/petrol notes that so often go along with leather. It's very soft, sillage is minimal and lasting power about 2-3 hours tops, but its a warm and comfortable scent to wear and office friendly.
I bought this on line from a US site and it arrived at the start of our spring in Sydney - so about September. I tried it a few times and thought it was musty and heavy and debated selling it at some stage. Today is our first cool day as we are in the middle of autumn, and it’s the first day it hasn’t reached 30 degrees for the last week. I thought I should give it another go before I relegate it to the rarely opened bottom drawer. It’s amazing how it performs in cool weather, considering it’s a no-go in the heat. It’s a sublime floral leather, I can smell an elegant combination of wood, caramel and leather. That mustiness I got the first few times has disappeared entirely. I don’t know what the go is with that badly fitting cap, not sure who deliberately designed it that way, but that aside, if you’ve been disappointed with this in warm weather, put it away for the cooler months.
This is an absolutely gorgeous and sophisticated feminine fragrance with impressive sillage and 24 hour longevity on my skin. But it is presented in an underwhelming bottle with an ugly cap that looks cheaply made and does not fit properly. And so I wrap myself in a cloud of Cuir and quickly hide the bottle in a drawer. Sadly it is discontinued, as it is the most feminine leather scent I have encountered.
Snatch a full 50ml bottled from 2007 batch. So lucky, beautiful floral leather. Stirctly to be used in cooler environment here. 8/10.
It has violets according Lancome and I definitely smell violets. Everyone keeps saying it is unisex, but to me it is more feminine. Cuir de Russie by Chanel leans more masculine than this does. This fragrance is a very "pretty" refined leather with lots of candied violets.
I smelled Cuir de Russie EDT in the summer of 2014 and fell in love with it but could not buy it at the time. When I read that this one was similar, I ordered it online for a very low price (around 20$). This year I bought one of the last bottles of Cuir de Russie EDT so I could compare them properly. Cuir de Lancome is more floral, feminine to my nose. Very sensual and the leather is prominent. The juice is very strong on me, so if you have sensitive nose, I suggest you try one spritz at first or a bit farther from your nose (I spray it on my belly ha-ha). It has a versatile feel to it, I sometimes pear it with my jeans, suede boots and leather jacket, other times I wear it with a flowing romantic dress and it never feels out of place. If you’re a man but find a chance to try it, I recommend doing so, it may work with your skin chemistry. I’m glad, I have both this one and Russie in my collection. They are different enough to own both if you love leather scents. Sillage is medium, longevity is 5-6 hours on me. I mostly wear it in colder weather.
Elegance in a bottle. Love the packaging and the quirky loose top on the bottle. The antithesis of J'Adore another of Calice Becker's creation, Cuir de Lancome is understated, subtle allure. It is a mystery to me as to why it would be discontinued. Soft floral, not sweet, I am reminded of a past garden in spring/summer when the hawthorn is in bloom. The leather is not as pronounced at first as in some other leather fragrances (Lauder's Azuree, one of my favorites, comes to mind). The leather comes later in the dry down. I don't know Chanel's version, Cuir de Russie, yet, but CdL is a treasure. I took a risk on a blind buy, and am delighted.
If you run accross a bottle..buy it. Its the most wearable birch tar leather. What others have said is true, save your pennies buying Cuir de Russie and get this. Its wonderful theres a little bit of white floral under the leather to give it a femme edge....whomever made the cap should be drug out and flogged...a major house with an issue like that??
