Hypnôse

i'm so biased because this is my grandmother's signature fragrance and she gave me some as a gift—but even if it had no sentimental value for me i think i would still like it. it smells exactly like a honeysuckle bush in early summer. would pair so well with an heirloom fur coat. i agree that this is a "cold" scent, but it's still very wearable in warmer weather and during the day. i would say it's a suitable blind buy as well—rather inoffensive, can be worn to work. it leans very feminine. while i am nonbinary and present androgynously, i can see myself wearing this daily. it's just a matter of preference and comfort.

Lancôme Hypnôse smells like licorice that has gone bad and rotted if that's even possible. Very unique for sure. Sweetened anis sprinkled over lush white florals and something that smells covertly of vomit. I can sniff for extended seconds so outs not absolutely repulsive, but don't like this. This was after checking the notes and now I can truly confirm I have a high fail rate when it comes to passionfruit, passion flower, and all other variants. This is how I find out. It does get better as it dries into a fully cloudy and lotiony anis-vanilla that reminds me of Montblanc Signature it was a magnolia cousin. Side-note and not relevant to this fragrance: That rotten smell I can't escape when it comes to passion fruit. Besides this, Armani Power of You was the most recent fail and many more. TT Cassiopeia was the only one I really liked but then after running through it, the little left started to go vinegar on me.

A cool vanilla scent with a subtle tropical sourness. This perfume definitely doesn’t feature a warm, gourmand type of vanilla. Although the initial spray is lovely, it feels as if my nose goes nose-blind to it after just 5 minutes. Normally, I can easily catch scents on my clothes even with heavy spraying, but that doesn’t happen with this one. I really wish it lasted longer!

I forgot how great this one was. I remember liking it back in the mid 2000s when it came out. I was a poor college kid on a budget. I wanted to get this one but ended up getting Provocative Woman instead simply because it cost less, which is much more spicy, less smooth and not as perfectly blended as this one. Even smelling it now again, 20 years later, I know this is a good one. There's something about it that reminds me of hypnotic poison, but hypnotic poison smells a lot like root beer to me since it's a gourmand and has all those added spices to it. This is just pure white florals on a lovely base of vanilla and vetiver.... which, I think I'm starting to realize, is a note combination that is an absolute must for me on winter/fall/going out fragrances.

Comforting coolness. Creamy scent. Reminds me of cold vanilla pouring custard with a touch of subdued fruity floral elegance to keep it from being a gourmand. Although not a warming vanilla this is very soothing and comforting. Perhaps the milky aspect gives this a nurturing vibe. Moreish. I did find that I needed to let this one sit. Staple scent. Perfect to nestle into, it will hold you tight. Hypnose hugs, supports and provides peace. 🪻🍮🍨😌💜🤍🧊☮️✌️

I remember first buying this perfume when I was 19 along with the Lancôme Hypnôse mascara in a beautiful gift set for myself at a department store. I didn't know much about fragrances back then but fell in love with it immediately. It was the perfect soft floral vanilla. None of the super sweet fruity florals I couldn't stand or other strong fragrances popular during that time. I unfortunately didn't keep it in the bottle and left it outside on the bathroom counter under strong lights, so it went bad fairly quickly. I'd love a new bottle for nostalgia's sake and because it's still one of the most beautiful vanillas I've smelt without being cloyingly sweet or another boring generic dupe of a dupe. One of the classics and I hope it's never discontinued.

elegnt vanilla & white florals. Such a clean/sad scent IMO, something you'd wear to bed on a cloudy night aftef finally letting go. Gentle, alluring and pure.

I had a little sample, it is ok, but nothing special for me. It is mostly because there are better fragrances on the market now. It had its glory in the 00´s, not doubt about that.

I cannot stop associating this with the scent of a sweet, lemon-vanilla shortbread biscuit. It’s buttery and crumbly, with a sand-like texture. That is what immediately comes to mind. However, I wouldn’t label this as a full-on gourmand (though I contradict myself because it is kinda yummy). The passionflower is stunning. It’s my first time smelling this note and it is both fruity and floral. It is powdery, but you get some sweet hits of citrus (more lemon and passionfruit adjacent than orange or lime). It is supported by the vanilla, and there are some white flowers as well but I’m surprised. White florals tend to dominate whatever perfume they’re put in, but this is more of an accompaniment rather than a takeover, which is so refreshing. Normally, for a bottle at this price point, you can tell “hm, this is a cheap synthetic fragrance”. I don’t feel that’s the case here. I consider this good value for money. I deem this a like.

the perfume that started it all for me. 17 yo me tried this once and couldnt get it out of her head ever since. years i spent to try and enjoy the "trendy" perfumes but none of them just did it for me. finally gave in and purchased a full bottle of her and im still in love. this is an inoffensive, creamy-clean vanilla. very unique and signature scent worthy. i get nausea and sick of scents pretty easily. despite that, im okay with smelling like Hypnôse forever. i hope she never gets discontinued <3

Much more to say after a few full wears, BUT an hour into my first experience…this smells like beautiful, expensive hair spray. (This is meant as a compliment BTW!) More to come …. Oh and DIG the bottle.

Bought it hoping it would be similar to the mens. now discontinued version. It's not remotely similar. It's not unpleasant but its not unisex or suitable for men. It's sweet and a little cloy.

The mid 00s were an epic period for perfumery. Of course, "Hypnôse" is no exception. Some other favourites of mine include "Prada Amber", "The One" by D&G, "Armani Code". I know "La Vie Est Belle" is far more popular nowadays but I definitely prefer "Hypnôse". What makes it beautiful is not its outstanding composition but its simplicity. There may only be 5 notes but they come together to create a beautiful scent. The simplicity makes this fragrance quite versatile, I feel like it will work in any season as long the weather is not too hot. The opening of "Hypnôse" has a fruity, somewhat sour note which I believe is the passion flower. "Sour" may sound off-putting but I mean it in the nicest way possible. It reminds me of a fruit yoghurt which I quite like. The vetiver also appears to be intense in the first few minutes despite being a base note. The vanilla note is also the highlight of the fragrance. It stands out since it is not the usual warm, sweet vanilla, but a creamier, colder one. It is somewhat similar to ice cream or whipped cream. The drydown is softer but still retains some weight. Like other "Lancôme" fragrances, the performance is great. If you spray on your hair and shirt, it lasts about 12 hours. I keep getting whiffs of it for at least 7 hours with ease. It does not need to be refreshed. Last, but not least, the name and package are very attractive. The 75 ml bottle is quite tall and massive. I love the shade of the liquid.

If I could describe this smell to the person who hasn’t smelled it, I’d say it kind of smells like vanilla coke but ofc it’s more sophisticated than that. Passion flower is a rare note used in perfumery which makes it a unique aromatic vanilla fragrance. Very beautiful and versatile, suitable for any season and occasion, a huge compliment getter

Festive and party perfect. It likes winter, I am yet to wear it in summer. Floral vanilla with unique passion fruit aroma, with bubble gummy jasmine and vetiver in the base. It speaks of free time and clubbing. Lighter sister to Angel and Wish by Chopard. It had a sister in YSL's Manifesto, too. I feel it on myself and it projects a small bubble. It is one of the best and most distinctive perfums. Iconic. And it lasts very well. One of the best in terms of lasting power despite not having nuclear projection.

Hypnôse is one of the first (if not the first) perfumes I have memories of from my childhood. My grandmother had a bottle of it in her bathroom cabinet, and I always admired it and secretly sniffed it when no one was looking. I must’ve been at most 5 or 6 years old then. I got my bottle as a gift from her three Christmasses ago. The liquid has already turned brown, which is a shame, since the purple-y-blue color was so pretty. Hypnôse smells mainly like anise and cold vanilla, in my opinion. It’s very sweet, but not edible, warm or spicy, but rather icy-smelling, if that makes any sense. Something about it reminds me of a modern-day ice queen. I smell white florals and just a hint of fruit, too. It’s alluring and sexy, but also cozy, and it happens to be my boyfriend’s favorite perfume of mine. This is a winter scent, if you ask me. I’m not the biggest fan of very sweet scents anymore, so I’ve been actively trying to use up my bottle for the past month or so. With more consistent wear, I’ve surprisingly found a new appreciation for Hypnôse. It’s still not my favorite perfume, but I quite like it. I won’t rush using up my bottle anymore, but when I do run out, I won’t repurchase. I like it for the nostalgia and I’ll always associate it with my grandma.

This I like! I purchased it years ago for a friend who asked for it. She enjoyed but said she couldn’t smell it on herself for long. I recently picked up a 1oz bottle just to have it! It is very pretty but does wear very lightly on me as well. Perhaps on clothes it may last longer. It definitely has a more intimate sillage but is so pretty! There isn’t a lot of notes, and I feel it’s pretty linear but nonetheless, very enjoyable. I feel this is a very work appropriate fragrance. It is very soft and cozy, perfect for any occasion. I just wish it was a bit “louder” but that’s just a personal preference. A few hours later- it seems to have become more pronounced. Perhaps I temporarily went nose blind to it, but now I can again smell it and it’s so nice

My mother has been wearing this one for years. This one is a great example of how subjective our noses are. I am very into vanilla/gourmands and beast mode perfumes; however this one it is straight up nausea and migraine inducing; burnt rubber mixed with overly powered vanilla, I don't get any sweetness as well. There is nothing floral about passion flower to my nose. If you nose finds this scent pleasant, please make sure not to overspray it if you are in public spaces because its sillage is unbelievably enormous.

Where has this perfume been all of my life?!? I'm super late to the Hypnose party but thrilled I finally showed up! Hypnose is not at all what I expected based on the reviews I've read.... I'm not getting cozy vibes nor ice princess vibes, and it doesn't strike me as a seasonal fragrance either. Hypnose seems to exist as its own thing for whomever chooses to wear it. My nose finds the opening to lean tropical floral. With that being said, I don't feel out-of-place wearing it mid-autumn here in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. It's not a summery tropical at all. I also understand how others describe the vanilla to be a "cold" vanilla. It's like getting a whiff of high-quality vanilla bean ice cream straight out of your deep freezer. It's not particularly sweet or syrupy (at least compared to gourmand fragrances I love), nor does it smell like straight-up vanilla extract. The vetiver lends a pleasant, earthy touch as well. Overall, Hypnose is stunning, beautiful and calming and anything but basic. As someone who works in marketing, Lancome knocked it out of the park with both the perfume name and bottle design. My only regret was buying a decant vs. going straight to a FB. That'll be next. :) ** Update 11/11 - My FB arrived today, and I know it's going to be among my favorites for a long time.

This is very very pretty. I've been comparing it to Barenia by Hermès. They're both similar heavy vetiver. But the Hermès fragrance made me appreciate hypnose even more. Hypnôse is a gorgeous restrained vanilla herbal tincture. Absolutely beautiful. I don't normally layer but I'm going to layer these 2. Hypnôse is a stunner. Severely underrated. You can usually get it on sale directly from Lancôme.

A unique, ethereal scent. I don't know how to describe it but I love it.

Deeply unique and freezing cold sweet syrupy yet aquatic clean vanilla fragrance. I feel it’s the furthest thing from gourmand that a vanilla smell can be. It smells like walking into a glass conservatory with a shallow blue swimming pool, its snowing outside, you've just taken a shower and shampooed with aragan oil hair products, that candied orange smell, and you're wrapped in a freshly cleaned dressing gown as your skin was cold to the touch. The spray scent can border medicinal, but the drydown and performance is insaneeeee just perfect on the skin. Not safe to blind buy in my opinion, but its totally gorgeous and wintery. Smells like nothing else on the market. Lancome haters stand down please

Around late 00s to 10s, hypnose signaled either elegance or mysteriousness of some sorts. It may had been niche still but it had a cult following. I think hypnose was one of those "it" perfumes - at least in some countries - because it presented a contrast to both your typical fruity, floral, sugar bomb and flashy y2k scents like celebrity perfumes and body mists and whatnot, but also to the dated grandma trends that are too heavily oriental or aldehydic and spicy. So hypnose became something "refreshing" as it wasn't loud and sugary and flashy nor it smelt odd or too much for the young individuals. I like the comments that mention gilmore girls and frazzled English woman memes like totally, I agree. But I was so annoyed with hypnose back then. To me it was bc everyone seemed to talk about it, especially girls who are like 10-15 yrs older than you are. And I was like, this is just the scent of a body lotion or something, what's the hype. Hypnose isn’t really in some sort of vintage category yet, it's not that old and it's not new anymore, and lancome is coming with more popular releases and I am positively surprised that you can still find hypnose and it isn’t discontinued, and I am planning to get a back up bottle too. For some reason despite how I didnt like it back then, now I'm into it, maybe it's cos of some sort of nostalgia? Not sure. Also bc it isnt so well known and talked about anymore I think. And I found out from chatgpt that hypnose smells differently depending on the temperature. The true hypnose vibe thats creamy and vanillic and only faintly floral - that comes out in colder weather. In summer you get more of its floral qualities which really is a stark contrast to how it smells in winter. It almost feels like a sdj body spray in the summer in my opinion, and to me it's unnecessary to use that during hot days.

Sexy , seductive sensuous more midnight flowery less vanilla . I don’t know about the newer version/ versions .

Ethereal scent. This vanilla is passionately said, beast mode. A darker mysterious white floral vanilla. Not the cosy vibes. More of a cool silk robe. Remember first time I smelled it was shocked. It settles so nicely on the skin. A unique scent. More of a cold vanilla even though it has passionflower note. I love vetiver in the drydown, makes it stand out more.

the sweetness is so off putting for me.
