i need this to come back soooooooooo bad it's my all time favourite ever since i was 15 even though it was way too grown up to be wearing to school 💀 it's a grown up perfume but it's not granny, it's sleazy like black opium.

The best way I can describe this perfume on my skin is expensive cotton candy layered on top of an echo of an '80s EdT. It feels like Libre's cooler cousin who goes to sample sales and shoplifts American Apparel in a Karen O red lip but wears a suit from Express to her office 9/5. A woman in her 20s trying to feel grown up. On the first spray I get amber, and a bit of powderiness, but then this Splenda-feeling sugary note comes out and just floats strongly over the rest of the composition. When the papyrus comes out it adds some depth, but it still is overpowered by that sugar note that immediately transported me to getting artificially flavored cotton candy at the fair. It does have a few moments when it leans a little sour, but it's short lived. It's hard to pick out anything specific from the drydown under the spun sugar. I can barely smell the plum, and I'm not even sure what I'm smelling is the plum, it could just be papyrus + amber + whatever smells like cotton candy to me.

Extremely woody powdery smell. The iris is quite detectable. I personally think this is a vintage, chic, mature perfume. It's for +40 yo women. Can be cloying and overwhelming if it's over-sprayed. Not an office friendly, this is more an occasional, night time, winter scent. ( I like it on myself hate it on the others)

I still have an unused 100ml Decadence from the time of release, original formula. Anybody know what's the correct sort of price to offer to interested buyers for? 👌👌 It's like a creamier, richer, more decadent version (of the likes) of Black Opium. I prefer this. It's very charismatic.

Elegant, woody, bulgarian rose. Balanced. Normally I cannot stand rose, but due to the woody note, it is a more elevated rose fragrance. For evening or date nights. For women, not for teenagers.

This perfume smells like a luxury handbag that decided to start its own fragrance line without consulting anyone. It’s green, it’s plum‑ish, it’s suede‑ish, it’s… confused. Decadent struts in like it’s dripping in emerald velvet, but the vibe is more: ‘I found this in the lost‑and‑found at Harrods.’ It’s not decadent. It’s a handbag with ambition.” Marc Jacobs Decadent vs Mugler Aura - are they alike? Decadent - Cool‑toned, green-plum suede. Slightly leathery, a bit hollow, not molten at all, zero amber thickness, non-vanilla, non-resin. Mugler Aura - A feral, glowing, creature‑coded jungle heart. Green vanilla, molten, textured, emotional, alien warmth, creature-coded. Amongst green fragrances, they sit on opposite ends of the spectrum: Decadent = cold handbag. Aura = warm creature heart. They are not similar in any way that matters.

I didn’t like anything about this scent. It made me want to hurl severally I had to give it out to my mom. I’d avoid her each time she wore it to work

Анонім

Very sexy, elegant. I kept the perfume I bought a long time ago, I wear it on special occasions. Now I was able to buy this woody, papery, mysterious, sweet, soft, deep, wonderful, mature scent again

Анонім

Horrible. So bad I had to throw the test cloth away, for fear that washing it might ruin a whole laundry load.

Анонім

I don’t know why but to my nose it’s smells like aniseed! Not a fan unfortunately..

Анонім

If you miss her or want to sample the idea of her, try Dark Rose by Octavia Morgan as a substitute 🌹

Анонім

This starts a bit rich and sharp, but not overwhelmingly so. It dries down fairly quickly into a woody floral, with an emphasis on the woody notes. I love it at this stage. It’s not a long-lasting perfume. Within a few hours, there’s a faint sweetness on the skin, and the wood has disappeared.

Анонім

To me this one smells almost exactly like mugler aura edp. Like aura with banana on the topp. I like this one more than aura, probably because of the banana note.Great longivety and projection.

Анонім

Hideous. Smells like Avon’s cheapest evening fragrance. Note to self- avoid plum. It’s too perfumey, too cheap, too cloying, too yuck.

My heart is broken that this is discontinued. It is such a warm, lovely fragrance! I am buying up bottles on ebay! It also layers well and adds depth to lighter scents.

Entertaining the notion on swapping (or selling) ☝️ of my 2 BNIB sealed 3.4 fl oz/ 100ml) I am currently on a much deserved & self imposed no-buy… I can swap a few bubs (collector acronym for back up bottles) from my collection & still be adhering to the ‘no buy’HMU if seeking out this OR some other gourmand luxury, atmospheric Indy, stellar schmoop & so on & so forth - I have nothing for sale on my eBay account right this moment however I WILL provide you with my profile screenshot for my eBay account & you won’t even need ask me to do so (i find that so incredibly uncomfortable-although I shouldn’t) and & you can take a closer look at my 100% positive feedback over the last 24 + years eBay account, more than 650 transactions. I encourage anyone I haven’t swapped with before to send me a dm on that platform so you can rest assured that the account belongs to me (the one typing 💬 up this unconventional Fragrantica swap proposition post … I have amassed quite a bit of scents over the holidays that I may own several of already, that lean a tad too masculine for my tastes or that break my frag loving heart! … right now those are the 3 reasons for my swaps being so ‘swappable’ 🙂

I have a dupe of this and I'm loving it! It's even better than the OG (or from what I remember). My absolute favorite is the Divine Decadence, but unfortunately it's discontinued and also there are no dupes for that. This one I have definitely has a very similar DNA, so I'm happy 😊 💚💚💚

I thought we were getting mossy, damp, earthy? wellll- why is it generic… 😭 this will be a lengthy yapping session but tl;dr - it smells like YSL Tuxedo on initial spray then smells like Mugler Aura on the late dry down. If you dig your nose in it = buttery iris and petrol like leather with faint burning wood nuances. Straight up lychee juice from initial spray and only gets interesting when it turns into a skin scent. Gosh why does it have to be at its most intimate presence when it develops to an intriguing scent that I enjoy and want to project. HOW CONVENIENT 😍🤯 Another fruity note I pick up is pineapple anddd 🫶🏻 I hate pineapple note 🫶🏻 What I love about it tho is that it didn’t end up smelling like a plum fragrance at all !! I’ve smelt plum fragrances that often turns sour on skin like Serge Lutens Feminite Du Bois. Plum has to be one of my most hated fruit notes next to pineapple huh. Late drydown when it’s a skin scent (the only interesting part) i detect a lovely butter iris and something that smells like a slightly mentholated petroleum jelly. No wonder why people say they find vick’s vaporub nuances in here but trust me, it’s not as strong as the menthol smell in Aura. The minty smell is hella weak at barely 3% strength compared to Aura’s 75% minty scent. The minty-ness of Decadence is like when Aura is close to wearing off. I also smell a faint burning wood smell but only if I have to dig my nose in it, so if you smell this in the air, that burning smell probably won’t be as present? To give you a reference, it’s the same petrol-like (no wonder why some people picked up Fahrenheit from Decadence), rubbery, burning wood smell i get from the ink note in Zara’s Supreme Vanilla—maybe replace the vanilla sugar with fruity sweetness on Zara SV’s inky base and you’d get Decadence? The petrol-y burning wood-ish smell also gives it a leathery feel to it, so if I had to describe how this smells like in a concrete way, it kinda smells like you have a new leather bag that you accidentally spilled pineapple-lychee juice on, then smeared butter on it, and to top it off, u sprinkled it with hickory wood shavings. Which is, yes… Weird! And speaking of weird !! People found this sour and pickle-y the longer it developed on their skin but SURPRISINNGGGLYYY !! No matter how long it has been developing, this never goes “pickle-y” on me like how most of yall mentioned. But what a bummer—I find it generic—so even if it develops beautifully on me, I can never find the joy of wearing it lol It’s still interesting enough tho but I need more umph. I need more PUNCH. This is more of a scent I’ll happily sniff from time-to-time but not something I would wear to feel like me because I prefer to surprise (or even scare) people with my perfumes. If you don’t overthink the smell tho, it’s very likeable and pleasant !! It smells like a fabric conditioner, a baby wipe, and a dryer sheet without being aldehydic or soapy. Just the choking sweetness you get from sniffing these straight-up. Btw, I also remember people saying it smells like men’s cologne? And I kept wondering how?? Like where are people finding that men’s cologne smell??? It was nowhere !! But that’s because I expected something deep ala pasha, drakkar, or obsession for men but later on I realized that there are many types of men’s cologne, so they probably meant “fboy’s” cologne which is the fruitier and fresher DNA 😭 (sorry if that’s stereotypical) and wellll, yeah, I do pick that up. I got the sweeter and fruitier men’s cologne DNA ala versace eros, aventus, cedrat bois, which is on the tamer side of men’s cologne. With that being said, this perfume is quite unisex !! It’s also hella similar to YSL Tuxedo (dead ringer !!!!!!!!) because they share the same rose note that people “cannot pick up” because it does not smell like a typical rose 😭 If y’all smell the sweet and juicy lychee note in Decadence? Jackpot! That’s the rose note. The only thing missing from YSL Tuxedo is the butter iris and burning wood accord from MJ Decadence but god they are so similar on the surface. IDENTICAL even. Regarding lychee-like rose note which both YSL Tuxedo and MJ Decadence have, and are both unisex-leaning, it occurred to me that that this is how Delina pour Homme would smell like if PDM ever released one lol Speaking of similar fragrances, I’ve read one review saying this smells close to TF Black Orchid, wellllll, they’re not as close like how MJ’s Deca smells like to YSL’s Tux but the bitterness and sueded feel of the petrol-y burning wood accord is the type of “sueded bitterness” from BO’s cockroach and varnished wood facets. Their similarities are only limited on their nuances. If it was a sense of taste, it’s just the aftertaste that’s similar to TF BO, so no, they’re not that close because BO to me is almost sugar-free and Decadence is sweetened by a jammy lychee rose. Now, for the main reason why I had to buy this. It was simply because people pointed out the resemblance to Aura and vice versa. And wellll I’m a slave for Mugler’s emerald heart 💚 and I will always have my baby Aura’s side and ffs I will glaze it however I wish 😭 because of that claim I had to see it for myself !! 🫶🏻 CHA CHING 💸 👹 BLIND BUY 👹 They’re quite similar except someone wanted to amplify every aspect of Decadence, which is Aura. The tart and jammy lychee rose in Decadence is similar to the tart and jammy rhubarb from another planet in Aura. Both are quite mentholated but again amplified on Aura The Bitter woods on decadence is again amplified on Aura There’s also quite a petrol-like smell on Aura like how Decadence has but the intense sweetness drowns it out better compared to Deca’s decently sweetened scent profile. Decadence has a pasty ointment smell and Aura even has it except same case as earlier, intense sweetness camouflages it really well. Most of their similarities are only on how the sweetness is presented (like how mj deca is similar to ysl tux) but they all later on develop and become a scent of their own as they’re blended with a different base. Decadence has a buttery and rubbery or leathery base, Aura has an intensely vanillic and animalic base which gives it more mystery. Decadence is a shade of gray, Aura is black. Decadence is a princess, Aura is a queen. Oop- stand straight ur bias is showing. Apart from that, I found a forum where they asked which fragrance is better between the two and most answers said MJ Decadence (oh I was quite offended but ok sure !! preference is preference i respect that) But honestly I’ll take my feelings back because why would i be offended when people only chose Decadence bc it’s more… umm… wearable !! So yes !! 🥰 it’s a compliment that people chose it more bc they found Aura more complex. Aura will always be the mentholated and medicinal green queen of designers. It has more depth because of the deeper, darker woods and indolic-ish florals that makes it animalic compared to Decadence which smells like a dissected and diluted Aura—literally as if you really took away all the interesting aspects of Aura for mass-appeal. To be less harsh and bitter abt Decadence tho. I can help some of you decide whether u’d like Decadence or Aura better. Go for Decadence if you prefer less menthol, intimate, and skin-scent projection with jammy fruity sweetness with an acceptable amount of complexity. Go for Aura if you wanna go for more menthol, loud, and LOUD projection with intense otherworldly sweetness. This has more pronounced animalic nuances. The “dill” that y’all complained about on Decadence (which was absent to me) is much more present in here. Aura for risk-takers, Decadence for playing safe. HOWEVER, both were probably discontinued bc they were too much for the general public to handle? 😭 if Decadence was too extreme for them and unwearable—despite being generic for me, but to each of their own—then Aura would be a complete nightmare? If that’s the case, I don’t even know if there’s hope for more c

took me forever to like it but finally i've grown to it. very sweet, plumy, but also dark and woody. didn't love it on paper but smells nice on my skin.

I remember my friend from UNI bought this when it came out. We were both around 21. I get that it was meant to be a dark, mature, feminine, mysterious fragrance but I just couldn't take liking to it. I can't quite tell after all these years whether I didn't like such mature perfume on a young person and it just felt very mis-matched or was it the perfume and its notes alone. I definitely remember being curious about it. Anyone would be when gorgeous Adriana Lima was advertising it. The design on the bottle is one of the best I've ever seen.

I kinda wanna smell this. But it's a shame it's discontinued.

Marc Jacobs truly did us a disservice by discontinuing this masterpiece. In a market currently saturated with over-sweet dessert gourmands, this remains the ultimate 'Fruity but FIERCE' alternative. The plummy base is grounded by a sophisticated rose and orris, while the papyrus gives it a sharp, leathery edge that feels completely badass. My Palermo dupe captures that 'sexy power' vibe perfectly—it’s the scent of someone who isn't afraid to take up space.

I'm selling my full 100ml bottle 👜, only once sprayed - bought it solely for the bottle but haven't used it since. DM me

I got a bottle on my birthday few years ago. I like it its a very unique smell. Beautiful 😍

Update: I ended up finding a 50ml bottle on Poshmark for a song and it just arrived and im thrilled to have it back in my collection. Happy to smell like pickles for the 1st few minutes because I find this to be intoxicating and completely unique.

This is a very nice fragrance and it actually smells a lot like Magical Moon by Hanae Mori (which unfortunately has also been discontinued). Decadence has a sultry dark tropical vibe to it. My nose is instantly hit with peppery plum followed by soft rosiness and smokey papyrus. Although it's a shame it's been discontinued, I don't believe it smells entirely unique. I'm sure it'll be easy to find dupes in the near future Overall I like it

Found a full bottle of this a year ago at a perfume discounter, bought it, wore it a few times but my nose could not navigate around the papyrus note. The allegations are true: the smell pickle brine is detectable for the first 2 minutes on skin. So I went ahead and decluttered it on Mercari, then spent the entire year regretting the decision. Tonight, I hosted a fragrance themed White Elephant, and a friend of mine decanted me 5ml. Glad to have some of this back in my collection.

My sister some how still has a sample Of this and was telling me about it as I started getting into fragrance, and we found out it’s discontinued😭 I finally smelled her sample and I immediately said “this smells like something!” And It clicked, it smells like poets of Berlin ! Came here to see if anyone agreed and apparently 226 others agree!! Woohoo

I get sweet juicy plum, intense rose, saffron and iris. it also has a bit of pomade/lipstick and powder -quite intense actually. The name matches it well: a bit gothic, decadent, mellowly sweet, and slightly “rotten”; every fall my grandma used to make plum and sour cherry liqueurs by fermenting fruit in sugar, Decadence has a very similar profile - sweet but on the edge of going off. It’s not exactly woody, more of a smoky dark-green, almost pine-like scent.. a perfect choice to balance the intensely sweet fruitiness. smells synthetic, but incredibly recognizable.id even say original, even 10 years later

I think its the plum that makes this fragrance very interesting, the plum is the "fruity" part but comes off as more feminine and mature especially when compared to majority of the MJ Daisy line. A little goes a long way and I find out of all my fragrances, this one has the longest staying power. Love the packaging, I think it suits this type of fragrance really well! Very interesting and wish they hadn't discontinued this or the other decadence line.
