LOVE this fragrance, to me its like a sweeter version of Dior Ispahan, and love that!! Its dark, deep and very sultry, not blind buy safe, but def a good one for the collection.

Honestly not to be dramatic but this made me gag when I sampled it 😭 it’s so metallic and screechy and has this horrible note of rose that is so poorly blended - nothing nice about it to my nose - made me never want to try another Montale!

STOP------------------------READING-----------the---------REVIEWS. I was TRICKED into buying this by the reviews down below. IF YOU WANT this kind of scent ---- just buy Elizabeth Taylor's PASSION at T.J. Maxx for $14.99 . There- I saved you $40.00 / $50.00 dollars. Thank me later and not all at once. (MEN can Rock Passion as well).

Wonderful scent. Sensual, yet elegant. An arousing scent of promise. When I wear it, I feel like a goddess—powerful, capricious, and evil to the bone. Definitely want a FB ❤️🔥

this one’s for the real bad bitches only

This was a blind buy but considering I really like Intense Cafe, Crazy In Love & Roses Musk, I thought I’d go for it. I LOVE this. Montale has this specific rose note that I always refer to as “smelling like Montale” - very juicy and jammy rose; never powdery or vintage smelling. This is that Montale rose DNA but with juicy plum and patchouli which elevates it. There’s also a blast of tangerine at the opening which I was worried I wouldn’t like; this is very much in the background and settled to be virtually undetectable to my nose. The plum and rose combination does all the talking here. If you’re looking for a deeper, more “night time” scent, this is a good option. Although I’d definitely wear this during the day too.

Blind Buy. This is my 3rd Montale. After the first 2-- I vowed "never again". (My first was Patchouli Leaves ; that was no better or worse than a small bottle of $8.00 patchouli oil. No. 2 was Mulikat or whatever it was called . It was supposed to smell like a "strawberry milkshake" . Yeah, NO.) So I just got Dark Purple in the mail an hour ago based on the GREAT reviews on here. Does this feel "dark purple"? Yes. Is this unique? No. Will you be all "I've smelled this before; multiple times in other fragrances" ? Yes. Dark Purple feels KINDA like Dior Poison: The Room Spray meets LUSH's Grape Soda with a GHOST of incense way , way in the background. This, like all Montale smells is BLUNT and to the point. NO NUANCES or gentle shoulders in here. This does not slowly undress itself -- it barfs all over the place . Do I like it ? Yes. Do I feel like if I poked around-- I would have found an Al-Rehab OR ARMAF with the same smell for $24.00 ? Yes. Is this "nuclear strength" and/ or will "2 sprays will fill an outdoor olympic stadium and have the crowd running for their lives" ? Not sure yet- but , um , not likely. Does the dime store spray nozzle with the useless dangly thingie keep falling off ? YES! I hope to God I have answered all your questions. GRADE : B minus. PRO TIP: spray this on your lower body-- it seems that far away whiffs do better than close up ones. Also ; because there is patchouli in this- I may layer it with one of my vintage patchouli fragrances; I LOVE PURPLE PATCHOULIS !!

Dark Purple used to be my go-to fragrance for winter nights, but over the past couple of years either my bottle or my body or both changed, and this doesn't quite click anymore. The rose now far overpowers all other notes (I loved the plum ;_;), and something about it feels far more mature than I am. Maybe I'll try it again when I'm grayer. Incredible longevity, though, and still luxurious; I've taken to spraying just a touch on a scarf or something instead of my skin. Even when I wore this regularly, I'd apply one spray and have to partially wash it off; it's that strong.

Lovely evening scent

Stunning full bodied plum rose. I'm a fan.

It opens with a burst of juicy plum and orange, rich and mouth-watering, before melting into a heart of rose, geranium, and patchouli — elegant, mysterious, and a little gothic. As it dries down, the amber, musk, and teak wood add warmth and sensuality, giving it that signature Montale depth and richness. It’s the kind of scent that feels luxurious, darkly romantic, and confident — perfect for evenings, special occasions, or when you want to feel bold and unforgettable. That’s my 2nd fave in collection.

I have purchased and/or sampled more Mancera and Montale fragrances than I can recall. I recently grew somewhat bored with Montale "Intense Cafe," and Montale "Ristretto Cafe.” The notes in Dark Purple resonate with me and I decided to blind purchase a new bottle. Dark Purple opens with the unmistakable Montale DNA of aldehydes, florals and musks. I am not familiar with super-plummy notes, so I was concerned about the fragrance's opening. So, an initial plume of rich, thick, jammy plum notes dissipates as the fragrance develops into a lush, floral-rose fragrance supported by a woody base and a bit of patchouli in the dry-down. Dark Purple is NOT a light, airy, fruity oriental fragrance; the perfume is unlike many fruity fragrances flooding the market. Dark Purple is definitely a musky, rose-based, mixed floral fragrance with wafts of fruity berries throughout the dry-down. And much less dense than what the notes might indicate. I LIKE THIS FRAGRANCE A WHOLE LOT! I wasn't expecting much, so Dark Purple is a huge surprise. Glad I purchased a full bottle x 100 ml. Love it!!

i loved this so much at its first spray..but its way too strong, gave me headache and i couldnt wash it off from my wrist 3!!! days.. :(

Liked in the store, sniffed the paper later and it was nauseating. Probably contains a modern superamber.

Анонім

Oh dark purple! You are dark and soft at the same time. Sweet Bulgarian rose with jammy plum on a pillow of musk and a splash of patchouli. It is dark, almost goth vibe, yet feminine; memorable, yet not offensive. A fragrance for a confident woman. I get lots of compliment wearing it! A bit heavy for summer, but fabulous choice for colder months and/or nights out.

Анонім

ladies, never listen to a guy like victor, they aren’t ever commenting for the right reasons. throw their self absorbed opinions in the trash. dark and seductive, this scent would absolutely suit a confident and gothic vampire lady. it’s sweet but the sweet has a spicy kick to it. a little goes a long way.

If a man only wants you to smell “sweet” and not have any maturity that’s a red flag. The same description goes for children. Reminder that this is a forum for fragrances and reviews that are about the fragrances, not toxic men’s idea of what type of woman they’d want in a smell. Listen to the reviews who put emphasis on the scent, not the ones who put it on your or their gender.

I'm reviewing this as a man, for any girl out there who is trying to get an unfiltered opinion on this frag. Honestly i really do not like this... The plum and the orange are very bitter, skanky, Harsh... This is not a sweet fragrance instead it is a very mature one, the acidity of the red barries and the the smoky aspect of the tek wood are blended with geranium, for those who don't know the smell of geranium it smells like the harshest most pungent toilet cleaner you can get at the discounter for 99c. The tek wood gives it a woody undertone that it may be the only thing i like about this scent. The most important ingredient is the rose. The most dried rose i've smelled in quite a bit to be frank... it reminds me of a rotten rose that's too old... The only pleasant part of the scent apart form the woody undertone is the Musk, Beatiful musk accord on the base unfortunately the whole composition is a mess in itself. I do not reccomend the blind buy. Longevity and projection are both very good about 2hrs of projection even 3 and 8hrs of longevity. Def more suitable for the older womans out there. Really hard fragrance to wear not a signature scent. Not a mass appealing frag Hate the construction of the scent, pungent and harsh. I do not reccomend this fragrance there is so much better out there for the same price... especially if you like plum. Mark: 5/10, Just because of the performances.

This was a blind buy for about $60 and it's a sleeper hit. It opens with a super sweet plum. I'm a plum note fan and purchased this to use like a body spray to layer with perfumes where there was s a plum note, but I wanted to use Dark Purple to bring the plum out more. Well, this is a super strong fragrance and it's more of a stand-alone perfume. I did layer it with a very light vanilla, like Nemat's Vanilla Musk and Brume Du Matin by Fragrance Du Bois - both worked well. I let this perfume macerate for about six months and then juice becomes juicer and sweeter - almost, but not quite grape. This is great for colder weather. It would be a difficult reach in hot weather. All, in all, I like it.

Анонім

I get the Juliette Has A Gun Miss Charming comparisons. Different fruits, same harsh, astringent rose. Not a scrubber, but these "scratchy" (as opposed to smooth or delicate) rose frags do nothing for me.

Анонім

Worst perfume I had ever smelt. The musk and the patchouli combine meticulously into the smell of cat piss mixed with laundry detergent. I wish I could like it, as the notes of roses and plum are very good, but the smell from the base is impossible to wear without getting a nausea

Анонім

This is so bad. I never really say that about perfumes, because even if it isn't for me I can mostly understand the appeal for others, but this one I don't really because all I smell is some indescribable offensive artificial smell.

Анонім

Huge burst of synthetic peony right at the beginning! Peony + Boomer generation potpourri. ...But the the dry-down turns rather harsh, with some chemical-y odor that I can't quite identify - it's almost ambroxan-ish to me. Ultimately, it was so bad that I had to scrub it. Very unpleasant, and it made my cats avoid me too, even hours later. This one is a definite no-go.

I have 3 Montale perfumes that were all blind buys (Dark Purple, Aoud Jasmine, and Intense Tiare) and I hated them all at first lol they were all too synthetic and strong smelling, and I usually love a strong perfume. They’ve all been sitting on my dresser collecting dust for MONTHS. But today, I tried something different. I sprayed Dark Purple on my arm but the bottle was like 2 feet away so my arm only caught a slight mist, and BOY did that make a difference. The smell wasnt as overpowering and synthetic when I sprayed it from further away and I could actually decipher the notes! I’m usually a chronic oversprayer but the key for Montale, at least for me, is less is more. It does have resemblance to Roses Vanille by Mancera. But not enough to say you dont need both

So, I bought the Treasures giftset from Montale and chose this as one of my 20ml, I also opted for aoud Safran and Red Aoud after alot of research. Arabians Tonka is my signature. Now Dark Purple is becoming a love for me. I've fallen in love with the dry down. At first spray you get a synthetic plummy rose, but it is sooo pleasant and straight off, you think, this is Different and I think I like it. It definitely has a dark aura about it. I think someone said on here, you could imagine a vampire wearing it and that's a flipping good description. Anyway, then comes the drydown. Oh my days, it's gloriously gothic. I keep getting wafts of it as I go about my day. I've been testing it for a few weeks now and it's gone from a like to a love in the dry down. It's really good. It's different, but who wants to smell the same as everyone else. Arabians Tonka is still my One, but on dark mood days, I'm going for this more and more. I can only describe the end as a sultry, Juicy plummy musk, but dont kid yourself that it's a playful girly scent. This one is dark and dangerous. Almost witchy ❤️

Bought a decant of this as I bought a dupe on a whim and absolutely fell in love with it. I was a little put off at first as on the tester strip this read as a light floral but the plum absolutely comes alive on my skin. Dark, sweet, and intoxicating. I like to layer it with something patchouli-heavy if I want an earthier vibe.

Анонім

This is perfectly named and it’s beautiful. Spicy rose, patchouli, plum - all of my favourite autumnal smells. It’s a scent for wearing with a dark dress and dark eye makeup. The performance is exceptional. It sustains for 9+ hours and the throw is strong. I don’t reach for it often but when I do, I wonder why I don’t wear it all the time.

Анонім

It's a flat Bulgarian rose with purplish tips. And the tiniest pinch of something powdery. It's like a baby goth, just a cute young girl in flowy black with cheap jewellery and black kohl and/or smoky eyes. No memento mori, just "I'm 14, and I'm edgy, mom". I thought, how do I know this smell and how is it so intensely nostalgic? Easy: I brought rose oil from Bulgaria, and as a kid I was only allowed oils (mint, rose etc.) I want it for nostalgic vibes, but, god, this is this so very boring and unimaginative! It says, I'm a violet, but it's that cheap touristy rose oil.

I tried my decant of this today and it bore a striking resemblance to Decadence by Marc Jacobs that I couldn't ignore. Dark Purple was released first, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if the perfumers behind Decadence were inspired by Montale's creation. (Decadence is heavier and leans masculine, ftr - I'm not calling them dupes.) Dark Purple has a velvety dark plum opening, with the rose being smooth and sweet. The patchouli amber base casts a beautiful shadow on this perfume. Once it all dries down, I'm getting mostly rose brightened with a trace of red berries. The plum disappears rather quickly, so be sure you enjoy rose if you get Dark Purple. Overall, this is a very sweet and sensual blend and I find it could be worn year-round.

I used to love L'artisan Voleur De Roses which was a dark gothic earthy metallic rose. The only thing wrong with that fragrance was it was a skin scent and didn't project or have any silage. This Montale Dark Purple is a dupe for that fragrance but on steroids! It took everything Voleur De Roses had and amplified the Projection, silage and longevity. This is perfect and was just what I was looking for. Only thing is it is very synthetic so enjoy smelling it in the air as you move about your day but do not smell it directly on your skin.
