A*Men Fantasm

For thirty years, Thierry Mugler’s range of masculine fragrances had been a dominant force in the field of gourmand perfumery. But after years of quiet reformulations, corporate transitions, and heartbreaking discontinuations, many of us wondered if the bold, unapologetic soul of A*Men was gone forever, especially with the last one carrying full Mugler’s name, A*Men Pure Tonka. After weird flankers like Ultimate and Kryptomint, I can safely say Fantasm is the first Mugler flanker worth checking out in over a decade. As someone who has been Mugler’s fan for the longest time, all I can say is that we are back, baby! TOP NOTES The first spray of Fantasm delivers a burst of bright and energetic surprise. Instead of overwhelming all my senses with dense sugar or heavy tar – vintage A*Men was famous for this – the scent opens with a sharp, sparkling burst of a combination of bergamot and lemon.During my first ten minutes of wearing it, a subtle warmth from pink pepper emerges beneath the bright citrus, and a note that is not mentioned anywhere: a distinct coconut accord which is noticeable throughout the whole life of the fragrance. HEART NOTES About fifteen to twenty minutes later, the sparkling citrus starts to fade, and the main feature makes its appearance: the Chocolat Noir Grand Cru Accord. The smell is not that of a thin and synthetic chocolate syrup; on my skin it smells like high-percentage dark cocoa—rich, slightly bitter, powdery, and very decadent. BASE NOTES As Fantasm settles into its full dry-down after two to three hours, it really connects with classic Mugler heritage. The brand’s signature Patchouli Essence comes through strongly, blending with the dark chocolate and a velvety touch of tonka bean (which isn’t listed in the official notes). The patchouli here is very smooth. The harsh, damp “dirty cellar” notes from the 1996 original have been softened into a dark, woody, and creamy texture. OVERALL Reviewing this fragrance reignited a spark of excitement that I haven’t felt from Mugler’s masculine lineup in ages. Good smell but way simpler than its "father", the OG is more complex, earthy. There's not even a hint of the original DNA here. None. It's completely different. Other than citrusy (and medicinal for the first 2 minutes), the opening smells like a coconut custard of some kind... Pretty much like the filling of a Bounty candy bar. The heart and drydown, to me, are closer to licorice than to chocolate (that I can't detect at all), especially if smelled from up close. In the air the damn coconut is still there. The patchouli too is pretty much completely missing :( I'm honestly annoyed. The first hour is not dark at all, with it smelling like coconut, while the drydown does darken quite a bit. Is it addictive? Yes, i'd say so: you keep wanting to smell it; Is it strong? Not really, it's quieter than the OG, although it does project; Is it manly? Nah. It's unisex, and the opening leans feminine; Is it daring? Not at all. It's safe and inoffensive: the OG sometimes smells like an old teacher, this one does not; Is it annoying me? Absolutely. Where's the patchouli?? Where's the "oooh so dark and powdery🤤" chocolate y'all rave so much about? Not here for sure. I only had a test few days ago and instantly had compliment after leaving the store, woman aged around mid 30s followed me, stop in front of me and demanding to tell her what perfume I wear as it was very cold day in this part of the world is winter right now...After that moment I went back to the store and made purchase, I don't know maybe that woman is the part of marketing strategy, chasing people giving compliments and forcing peoples mind to go back and buy perfume ha ha ha

This one is a nice addition to the Mugler line up. Not as deep and unique as some of the older offerings when it was THIERRY MUGLER, but nothing to be a snob about either. Its got that chocolate and patchouli that makes it so cozy and then it dries down with some kind of coconut vibe mixed in that I really like. My only draw back is that it really leaves a scent bubble and the smell can get annoying after a few hours for me. I like it, but I dont want it in my face for 10 hours lol. Def worth trying! Good lasting power and worth if if you can get it at discounter.

This is basically Le Beau by JPG blended with Hacivat X. It's not bad, but it's redundant and thoroughly familiar. And, of course, it's nothing like A*Men's by Thierry Mugler, when there was the Thierry behind.

bought a sample of this. very good fragrance overall, lasts long and projects pretty nicely. I find the fragrance to change quite a few times during its span, for me the first half hour is more citrusy, then the fragrance becomes a bit sharp but sets down not long after. Chocolate is always present, at some certain point I get some coconut. Drydown has mostly patchouli but still with that chocolate take. pretty wearable, I don't think it's exclusively for cold weather but definitely works better there. I might consider buying the full bottle but I'm definitely interested in trying the other A*men fragrances, as most of them seem interesting to me.

Very addictive chocolate. And if you know anything about the chocolate note, you know patchouli go hand in hand. I think more people will like this over Amen Stellar cos its more masculine but both are addictive.

Yeah, oriental vanilla... I sampled this to test, following a recommendation that has possibly been a joke. Fragrantica says it was launched in 2024, but I know this scent from somewhere far back in time, feminine or at least childish. Vanilla, coconut, caramel, a hint of anise, all accords not listed and probably composing the "chocolate" note. After a few hours a resinous note comes to the rescue, but too late.

Incrivel! Em pouco tempo já se tornou meu perfume noturno preferido. Frasco foda, amo a estrela prateada, muito único… Sinto muita íris, e nem consta na pirâmide, deixa bem elegante, e bem sexual junto com a nota de chocolate. Perfume feito pra comer gente, elegante e sensual. Cheiro do Maridão (Eu).

This is really good. Got 100mLs for $144 on special. The chocolate note is AWESOME. Perfect for nights out and colder days. Very unique, you'll definently stand out wearing this.

This smells like coconut, vanilla, chocolate and a hint of spices. Kind of like a subdued, tropical version of Spicebomb Extreme. Quite pleasant actually. Sillage and longevity is surprisingly good. I do not get any of the citrus, bergamot or patchouli listed in the note breakdown on this page.

Great fragrance horrible atomizer 7.5/10

Refined/modernized version of the original, better than Stellar for sure, which is sad because a pistachio note is always interesting, but the truth is that Fantasm is more well rounded/better blended.

When I first bought this perfume the performance was not that great, I felt it was really weak and didn't project at all so I put it at the back of my shelf and basically forgot about it for a year. Tried it again recently and the performance has improved significantly so I'm wondering if a lot of the bottles people have bought maybe haven't had enough time to mature. I bought mine fairly recently after it first released so the bottle would have been pretty new, though I didn't check the date. While it's still not as strong as the OG A Men Malt or Havane, it's still got some of that DNA to it but with more of a sweet, chocolatey twist. It's definitely more gourmand, sweet and rich.

I was never a big fan of Mugler fragrances until I smelt this one. It was my girlfriend who introduced me to this scent, which was so good to her she ALSO had to buy it. I find mixed reviews on when this fragrance should be worn. I have been told when I wear this that It gives off coconut vibes, and beach vibes. To me this feels like a warm and cozy scent better suited for the winter, so I guess you could wear this year round if you really wanted too. I really enjoy this scent, and I feel it makes me stand out, which is what I go for when wearing fragrances. It definitely helps that my girlfriend enjoys this one on me.....

All I can say is it smells like chocolate 🍫 and sits very close to the skin you have to put your nose 👃 right on it to get anything. The original reformulated A*Men I got also last week (2025 batch) in the mail the performance on that for a Edt is so far better than this and Fantasm is a Edp? Anyways my guess thus far is going to have to spray on clothes once on shirt and six on skin in the cooler days and colder seasons. But I will say this the chocolate 🍫 scent is heavenly 😋. For $115 not to bad and different from scents on the market today. Oh and side note I had the original A*Men when it 1st came out in 1996 the Edt and it was a power house. In short I give Fantasm 3/5 if they would have kept the coffee ☕️ note this would have been 5/5 but chocolate 🍫 good too lol. ★UPDATE★ = After a full wear today Fantasm Edp is just a like not a love changed my rating. Definitely a winter scent only and definitely got to spray at least 10 sprays 8 on skin 2 on clothes or more to get anything sits close to skin with very little projection or sillage. For a $115 I could complain a little not much but for $19 more I could get Stronger with You Powerfully for $134 and have beast mode with no complaints considering the SWY line is Fantastic. The A*Men days are over and I hope someone who makes this Mugler fragrance now is paying attention to the low ratings because ya their true at least for Fantasm 2/5.

I must agree 1000% with JayLee29. Ever since L'Oreal bought Mugler fragrances, the entire line, women's & men's, has gone to ABSOLUTE S**T!!!!! The men's line especially has been severely compromised, reformulated, cheapened & totally uncharacteristic, unfamiliar & inauthentic of the classic Amen. Even the men's flankers have been narrowed down to just a few. Thierry must be rolling in his grave knowing that his entire fragrance line has been reduced to dollar store quality!!! Give it up L'Oreal!!!

Lackluster and disappointing. If you own the originals this will be a massive let down. It's like they were on their way to making a great fragrance but didn't quit make it Truthfully this should not be in the Amen line at all. It is not an Amen fragrance and doesn't have the Amen DNA whatsoever This is more like a cousin of Alien man, but Alien man is way better than this There is definitely a coconut vibe in this. It's like chocolate, coconut, floral, and powdery, but it's cheap. Chocolate sun tan lotion with coconut is how I would describe it. Trying to be a gourmand but failing. Trying to be unique but kind of just fizzling out Glad I didn't blind buy a full bottle because I was almost going to given I love the old school Amen line. This is just a complete deviation and it's wrong for Mugler to categorize it in the Amen line. Plus the price tag is ridiculous. If say Montblanc released this under the same name I wouldn't blink an eye. It's Montblanc quality with a niche price I guess Mugler got bought out by L'Oreal in 2020 and it really shows here You pick up basically nothing that makes the Amen line the Amen line; that recognizable Amen DNA is just not here. That is basically gutted and removed. This is something else. It's like a grassy coconut vibe, straddling the line between herbal and gourmand. It does have chocolate patchouli vibe here, which is the style of the OG Amen flankers, but again, it's not that same DNA; some of the same style of notes, but different DNA I genuinely want to like it so bad, but it feels like someone is selling me fool's gold. The quality is low, it's like a Toyota doing an impression of a Ferrari. It kind of leans feminine too It's like they tried to imitate the other Amen flankers and just totally failed And the cherry on top is the performance is trash 3/10

Angel A*Men Fantasm took me for a ride on the early 2000s nostalgia train; opening up like fusion between Angel A*Men (classic) and Rochas Man. A warm, spicy, sweet gourmand for those looking for something a bit more sensual or for the anti-freshies. Our very own Black Opium for men, if there were ever one. This was a blind buy, as I was curious and miss the Angel special edition flankers. Sadly the Thierry Mugler magic is has flatlined since his passing, but this one comes very close to reviving what was special about Mugler fragrances. I recall the EDTs had more depth, but that was a different time. Does it smell good? Yes. Is there a decent level of performance? Yes, but please take into account that I have been spoiled by Thierry Mugler's original work. Although Fantasm lacks much of Mugler's DNA, who better to compose this fragrance than Jacques Huclier?? The perfumer behind the original Angel A*Men and all the discontinued A*Men gems. It won't get better than this, unless they decide to give us an Angel A*Men Elixir.

This is like if you took original a*men, made it more milky, and added coconut to it. Im liking it a lot as thierry mugler is my favorite brand, and this fragrance itself is great. If youre debating over fantasm or stellar get this one.

Went to Dillards the other day and finally decided on buying Fantasm. I always loved the bottle presentation it’s just really cool, and I also have been looking for a chocolate dominant fragrance for a while. Well i finally pulled the trigger and bought it for a whopping $86, last time I sampled it at the same place it was like $130 I think, but the fragrance gods have blessed me on a lucky day. Smells lovely! Little bit spicy, Semi-sweet chocolate, somewhat earthy from the patchouli, a little powdery, not a lot of citrus but it’s there. Performance is solid I get 9-10 good hours of longevity and 3-4 hours of really good projection. Personally I think it’s pretty versatile I could see myself using this all year around, just not on really hot days. 10/10 in my book

I love most A*Men, including this one! Smells like coconut-chocolate cookie, a bit of freshness to balance things up. About the performance, I've sprayed this inside my wardrobe a couple months ago and still get some random whiffs when chilling on the bedroom.

Smells like patchouli-flavored dark chocolate. Earthy and gourmand at the same time — like you’re covered in soil and cacao. It’s mysterious and slightly dark, with a bitter chocolate, earthy, powdery vibe rather than sweet dessert sweetness. Definitely different and not for everyone. Longevity is beast mode (8h+), probably thanks to the patchouli 6/10

This smells like a fck boy you met at a party in 2011/2012 and Avicii or some other brainrot music is blasting in your ear and you know exactly what kind of man you are dealing with.

Excellent Mugler! If discounted is THE best in the current line. Is not a gourmand, more versatile and can be wear as a daily. I wear this in Spanish weather, German weather and UK weather... it performs and not as a compliment getter but as a "feel good" and do all fragrance. I will definitely repurchase, wish Mugler would bring a Pure Havane alike fragrance, with named parfumeurs. Solid and reliable, pleasant at at all times. A hit! 9/10

I am not getting the notes correctly to my nose but this fragrance reminds me of how Dads smelt like in the 80s or 90s. not a blind buy safe 7.5/10 in my honest opinion as i am not a fan of this scent profile.

I just wanted to pop in and add an update after have owned this for about a year now. This has gotten SO MUCH STRONGER than it was when I first bought it. I rarely ever reach for it, but when I do, I am always pleased with the wearing. Fantasm has reached classic A*Men flanker status in my opinion. There is a clear progression of scent profile throughout the wearing. It's not as drastic as some niche offerings I've worn, but it definitely sports a few noticeable phases through out the wear I get over 10 hours on skin, days on clothing with huge projection in the first 3 hours, slowly receding throughout the wear. Dark, seductive, unisex, leaning masculine. My wife actually wears this one more than I do. Great stuff! 86/100
