Girl

Funky bottle - no idea why it’s called Girl, as totally unisex. For me the Iris notes dominate which is lovely, although if you don’t like iris, then steer clear. After an initial strong projection, only lasted about 4 hours on my skin, but a lovely scent nevertheless. Picked up a brand new unopened bottle on EBay in the UK for less than £50, but there are some really high prices out there too.

I've had it since its launch, back in 2014. I even sold a bottle at some point in time, now I kinda regret it. The one that I kept is still going strong, wore it today after a while and I must say I just realized I really like how Antoine Lie blends his woods and spices. In this regard, I've appreciated his work for Maison Sybarite and I consider Wonderwood a masterpiece – with which "Girl" shares a bit of olfactory DNA, not to deviate from the usual Comme des Garçons cool and collected vibe. Violet, lavender, pepper and vetiver, a certain freshly sharpened pencil shavings smell in the background, with a not too powdery iris in the foreground. This is art. I find the blend of the floral actors here very successful, especially since not every perfume renders lavender and violet so balanced without canceling each other out. It's fresh, it's unisex, I wouldn't recommend it to ladies who prefer sweet gourmand perfumes, but I do think it's ideal for nature and forest scents lovers, regardless of gender. Although it oozes a glacial elegance that reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez for Him, I find it suitable for any outfit.

I wanted this bottle so badly in 2014 but now that I have adult money... I finally have it. Cool bottle aside, this fragrance is actually really lovely and inoffensive. I get a woody, powdery mix with a sweet but clean undertone. It's a bit similar to a Balenciaga fragrance I used to own. I feel put together when I wear it but also it reminds me of my teens and coming into age. It's an interesting experience.

Bounces in all peppery, closely followed by some subtle florals tiptoeing around a woody base. Leafy violet that’s green and perhaps could be described as earthy. Something feels a little cold, maybe even a touch metallic - not shiny, more muted. Dries down into a kind of nothing perfume. A woody, dry, sort of synthetic blob with that familiar CDG backbone. I guess you could call it minimal, I don’t know… I’d probably just roll my eyes and mutter “hipster” under my breath if you did.

I loveeee this so so much bruh why’d they have to discontinue it TT I wish cdg would rerelease this under their name only or something plz! This is one of my signature scents, but it’s getting harder to find :c I love layering this with a dab of patchouli oil on my wrists, neck, and knees so it’s extra earthy with that violet 💜 also tried that with sandalwood oil, but love it a lil more with patchouli 🌱 I might try layering it with untitled l’eau from maison martin Margiela hmmm

Amazing quality and versatility...CDG doesn t disappoint as usual. Don't listen the "dislakes" some ppl here havibg no idea about thos creation. Nuclear on my skin, I have some savings, simply love it. The bottle is a masterpiece. 8.5 ❣️

It does remind me a lot of Fahrenheit... like a sister brother of it. I don't really like this... something synthetic smelling in it. I will give this one to a friend on mine who loves Fahrenheit. It's not bad at all... just not my personal taste. If you like a sweet violet and patchouli scent... try this one.

At one point there was a great deal of hype revolving around Girl by Pharell Williams for being a very interesting and unexpected offering and that checks out for sure. What im getting from the scent is a synthetic, woody violet accord with a peppery kick in the opening phase. The scent is very abstract on my skin and it reminds me of perfume that accidentally spilled on unused plastic trash bags or on faux-leather garnments. Its different indeed but not in a way that suits my taste. I don't hate it per se and i'd even wear it but i don't connect with it personality wise. Despite that, given the price this used to go for, i see its value because of the uniqueness and i wouldn't mind having a bottle. The fact that its made in partnership with Commes de Garcon explains this somewhat, because i had similar experiences with their Wonderwood and Wonderoud releases. I found them very abstract and unnatural. Altho come to think of it, the Incense line from Commes de Garcon is drastically different, more natural, authentic and real-world inspired hency why they are on my wishlist. Girl takes off in a direction of perfumery that i do not resonate with altho i wouldn't judge those who appreciate this sort of scents. It has its appeal for the right crowd, kinda like a latex full body suit does or fashion pieces designed by Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy. Yep, not my style by any means but some can pull it off.

Loved this fragrance from the first try, which was on the reccomendation of a friend. A youthful, neon, synthesized opening with lavendar, followed with creamy pepperiness and a pretty violet note that endures the whole journey. Dries down with slight grassiness and wood. To me this is evokes a pretty-boy skateboarder dude at the skate park in summer or waiting at the bustop in the rain that evening. It was ahead of its time and ahead of its innevitably mainstream audience. If it was Comme des Garçons-branded it would have flown. A daring endeavour, and I'm glad it happened. If perfume had a forever shelf life, I'd by 10 bottles to keep in storage.

Worked in fragrance retail when this launched. I clearly remember the loud and overwhelming scent of over ripe bananas on a dusty bed of synthetic patchouli. It settled into something reminiscent of the interior of an unexplainably wet thifted suede handbag full of banana Runts. It was FAR too polarizing of a scent to achieve mass appeal. It's muddled marketing and branding strategy didn't do it any favors. It was marketed as luxury but also as a celebrity fragrance (a genre associated with cheap low quality cash grabs). The packaging, while distinct, did nothing to disabuse shoppers of the notion that this was not luxury and balked at the price. The insistence that it was unisex (it is / was but IMO leaned masculine) was deeply undermined by the name "Girl". Men simply refused to consider it, women wrote it off as something for tweens on sight and others ignored it as fan service promotional merch for his album of the same name. Had this been marketed as a niche CDG collaboration, it may have had a chance but the branding and marketing choices were contradictory and relied far too much on assumed success. It was over before it even started.

I soon bought a bottle when this first came out. It was cheap as chips and sorry but I wasn't that keen on the bottles appearance. It has since grown on me. It doesn't take itself too seriously. My first meat eating, sniff of it did not impress me. Some years later and I am now a vegetarian who takes no meds.... what a difference. Now I detect the violets and iris with softs puffs of vetiver. Perfectly unisex and not heavy on cedar as was the case before. I appreciate it now. A very versatile fragrance. You can wear this anywhere. Its a real shame it doesnt last longer but hey for the price its pretty good. Well done Pharrel.

Something v dirty underneath everything, not really horrible, but definitely musty in an unwashed way, but not sour. Also think a pinch of amberwoods underneath as well. The first spray after a little gap of use has it more obviously. A damp house shut up for a while, but the owners have now returned, put violets on the sill of an opened window and washed their hands with soap.

Great scent for a rainy day.

It’s fresh, green, woody and somewhat peppery. It has interesting dark (slightly smoky and musky) undertones on my skin. On the skin it’s less green and more woody but those woods are softened by powdery iris. Can definitely feel some earthiness from vetiver or/and patchouli in the base. Nice, I think the quality is really good.

Superb fragrance that I can only describe on a high level as a neo-chypre, patchouli, violet and cedarwood being most dominant. Let's get the obvious comparisons out of the picture - yes it does remind me of Narciso for him, no it doesn't remind me of Fahrenheit. Violet is such a common chameleon of a note that it can't just be that any violet fragrance reminds another. G I R L also has a unique edge to all that is compared to: neroli. If G I R L is a neo-chypre, Fahrenheit is a neo-fougere/aromatic. G I R L opens with a nostril-tingling peppery/cinnamic spicy top note with powdery - almost naphtaline undertones - of neroli, which could be the use of only one or two constituents of the oil. All combined, I get a grape soda/syrup and cola sensation more cinnamon/ginger spicy than black pepper spicy. The violet and anisic floralcy (ever so slightly play-doh, lilac vibe) is through and through from the get go - probably this is where people make Fahrenheit comparisons, but for me the watery-green "violet leaf" aspect of Fahrenheit, which is responsible for what many take as the gasoline note when combined with leather, is just absent here. Lavender plays a nice supporting role, giving a vintage or mature vibe to the fragrance. Overall I get peppery, cinnamic, cola, cherry/grape cough syrup, dark rose, patchouli, cedarwood, violet keywords out of this blend, not many fragrances out there that smells quite like it. Back to comparisons, this time my own: If anything, G I R L to my nose is closer to Gris Dior, even more so to the recent Gris Dior Esprit in structure and profile. Nobody mentioned the dark-spicy rose note here (Citronellol-ish), which in combination with patchouli, resins (in this case we see Styrax) and a good amount of cedarwood, makes up a proper spicy chypre fragrance. The drydown is also unique to my nose with again some vintage style musks, coumarin but most of all the overall patchouli-violet-woods profile. This is such an amazing fragrance at every stage of the wear and perfect autumn choice for cooler days. I have to mention the relation to the 2014 Pharrell Williams album "G I R L" being the namesake of the fragrance too, which has nothing to do with the target audience but a way of honoring female figures in his life, this fragrance is part of a concept that includes an entire music album to begin with. The tacky Kaws designed bottle is also a big plus for me, it just sits like the work of art that is with the work of art juice inside from Antoine Lie / Comme des Garcons. In the end it beats all the utter-trash that is shoved as niche perfumery nowadays at an average pricepoint of 200 euros at all aspects, scent, bottle, design, price tag...

I have two bottles purchased in 2018. It’s actually pretty good. I’m selling one, I don’t need two considering I have over 300 other perfumes. Message me if u want to buy it . US only please.

A long-lasting masterpiece.

I like it. Reminds me of: the smell of rain + violets + woodsy + laundry in a subtle way. Update: I now own a 14-year supply crate of it.

i don't know how, because few to none of the notes are the same, but this is like if betsey johnson perfume got sprayed down with a dirty cobwebbed hose and then went through a car wash of cheap violet shampoo. i wouldn't want to smell this on anyone, a true shameful waste & disgrace of materials that ultimately come from this earth

I initially bought this because the price was excellent and I thought the bottle was art. But I actually really like this! Stone pebble, cool violet florals, light woods and a touch of herbal lavender

This is going to sound odd, but this really smells like how it feels to spot a teeny tiny rat in your apartment. There's the initial wave of shock and disgust, followed immediately by recognition and sympathetic affection- it's just a little guy, fuzzy and not much different from the hamster you kept as a kid, to be killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time; for the crime of being small. You then recall the gruesome way Nibbles died, how he crawled behind the radiator to rot, how the smell filled your childhood home. The revulsion returns with a vengeance, as your toes curl and you start to salivate. Like his songs, Pharrell Williams' fragrance invokes in me a nostalgic dread, a sick and confused yearning for worse times.

Wondeful perfume, embarrassing affiliation to a lame celebrity who wears a giant, glans-shaped hat. Who cares though, I'm still wearing it! It's violety and smooth with a sort of hot chocolate undercurrent (patchouli?), but not at all sweet. Very strong too, even after showering. It's very similar to Fahrenheit, but stands up on its own.

In my search for a replacement of the original Narciso Rodriguez for Him, I ended up with Girl, a misnamed fragrance that at first glance possesses the same somber melancholic vibe. The more I wear it though, the more I start to sense how it's actually juicier, more friendly, and it has some more colors in it, different than grey. There's a bit of sunshine in the opening notes of lavender and neroli, and there's some classical niche vibe in the woody patchouli base and the creamy pepper notes in the beginning. In fact, the more I get to know it, the more I start to see violet as an obstacle. Anyway, Girl is too short-lived, and I also find it too unfocused - as if some AI compiled a random set of nice notes. This ambiguity intensifies in the context of Girl being technically a "celebrity fragrance", created shortly after the viral music hit "Happy". I can only imagine how one-dimesional the expectations for a Pharrell Williams fragrance were back then.

This shouldn't be confusing or challenging to me but for some reason @Holli 's review rings true for me. Something in the early opening gives it a perfumed burp/stomach acid impression. I don't know why. It smells pretty pleasant but unremarkable after that: lavender, pepper, neroli, and a slightly stale vanillic amber note come through at once. To my memory, it smells like Jannat by Memo and Dior Fahrenheit sprayed into a small space at the same time.

this stuff is quality for celebrity fragrance and i was really surprised.i get a watery concrete violet scent that is different and is a ? but not a yuck.like when you're waiting for a scent to go really bad after the opening but never does.it just remains a hmmm?hmmm?i'm glad i got it and especially since not many people want it.

Right off the bat I get the violet, Fahrenheit/NR reference. I do pick up some Black Afgano too. Excellent/modern fragrance artistic yet crowd pleasing underrated and niche based. Pharrell and Cdg really put something beautiful out there. The price for this is insane based on what you’re getting.

Very sweet synthetic unisex fragrance, almost has like a milky sweet scent to it. It’s definitely more on the feminine side bought it for 25 eur at tk-maxx. It’s a unique fragrance with a nice lavender note throughout. Nothing mind blowing, just nice and unique :)

I'm really interested in trying this one but my skin amplifies vetiver (not my favorite note, anyway) and I'm afraid it would all just turn to vetiver on me. I'm 36f. 75% of my perfumes lean unisex, and I'm not sure if it would lean too masculine on me or not.

This is perhaps a strange reference but this perfume smells exactly like many of the Asian supermarkets in my area and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Girl smells a LOT like my vintage Worth Je Reviens. I like this very much. It definitely has a gamine quality. For rainy days. Edit: Now that I own and have tested both, I can confirm this is VERY similar to Dior Farenheit. (I still think Je Reviens is similar but this is much closer to the Dior.) Violet and vetiver are the predominating notes. I actually think this smells higher-quality than the current formulation of Farenheit EdT (which performs like an aftershave or eau de cologne.) Projection is enormous and longevity is above average. One spray is generally enough, and I'm an oversprayer.
