I never Thought metal could smell so good. To my nose its smell like incense metal with some ozonic vanilla.
another stunning woody/smoky vanilla. the drydown is very similar to Celine Black Tie, though the opening is not. scent so addicting it got me smelling my wrist over and over. great longevity and moderate projection with good price point. one of my favs from Van Cleef!
the 🐐. If they really reformulated this i’ll have to seek therapy
My bottle is not a recent purchase I have had her since 2020 so seeing that it has been reformulated is a shame because the half of bottle I have left is absolutely divine seduction in a bottle, I smell every single note ampt up smooth thick smokey cold with a exquisite light powdery almond and smooth vanilla. Smileypc44 I will definitely be trying vanilla 28 with her along with brown sugar babe creame de le creame body oil great idea thank you.
Hear me out... layer this with vanilla 28 and holy smokes the way they compliment each other is out of this world. This adds depth to 28's sweetness, and vice versa 28 adds sweetness to bois' woody smokiness, it's just chef's kiss
This is an absolute no-brainer if you love sweet, dry, powdery, vanilla musk with a peppery kick. This is THE epitome of that scent profile, in a grown-up version. This is not a gourmand. You get the cedar in the background just at opening. There is a Playdough-y almond as it dries down. There is no tobacco that my nose detects. The powdery pepper is present all the way through and is gorgeous. Sillage is decent. Longevity is mid. Normally, this is a winter scent profile in my collection. But because the pepper is so present, it works in mild heat for me. Not sure I'd venture to wear this in mid August, but it works almost year round IMO. I will always have a bottle of this in my collection as long as I can find it. This Van Cleef line is so underrated. I have several full bottles and every one of them is truly a blended masterpiece.
Back when I was a photography student, I discovered infrared photography. It made everything, but especially trees with a lot of leaves, look fluffy and ethereal, like earth angels. In my culture, trees are respected and honored for their protective and grounding quality. This perfume makes me feel like a giant protective fluffy and ethereal tree has wrapped me in it's warm, beautiful fragrance. Last winter, I thought about selling this bottle, but decided that I should hold on to it and try it again next Winter. I'm so glad I did! The maceration seemed to help soften out any rough edges, and bring forth a warm, golden tone, and this has now become one of my favorite Winter perfumes.
Loooove this, i only wish the performance was better.
Absolute masterpiece
This is gorgeous, a vivid tonka backed with woods and musc. If I hadn't already smelled and fallen for the slightly more abstract, less sweet Cargo de Nuit I'd be more enamoured still, but they are similar and def worth comparing before purchasing either.
I like it and find it to be a very interesting scent. At the same time I find it a bit overwhelming, even though I like in your face perfumes.
This was such a great perfume, along with Bois D'amande and Oud Blanc. Something happened with all three of them. Definitely reformulated, different, weak and unfamiliar scent, very bad projection. I tested in a few stores, still bought it, regret it a lot. Asked online - I am not the only one, overall. Some people said they let it macerate for a year and it was better, but I know the original perfumes didn't have this issue, so I don't understand the price point at all. Ridiculously expensive, weak reformulated perfume!
Bois Doré by Van Cleef & Arpels is a small masterpiece of balance from the Collection Extraordinaire. If I had to describe it with an image, it would be that of a piece of precious wood floating in a sea of pure gold dust. Fabrice Pellegrin's genius in this creation lies in the contrast between mineral darkness and creamy sweetness. Initially it is pungent and almost "cold". Black pepper and mineral notes give a sense of metallic cleanliness, like wet stones. But it's an illusion that lasts a few minutes. Here the fragrance warms up dramatically. The combination of almond and vanilla never veers towards the "sweet mess" (extreme gourmand), because the tobacco and cedar keep the scent dry, elegant and decidedly unisex. The Drydown is the real protagonist and is the Tonka Bean. It's an enveloping, powdery, lightly toasted cloud that stays on the skin for hours, evoking a sense of luxury. It is the ideal perfume for those who love sweet fragrances but hate childish ones. Bois Doré is sophisticated. Despite the vanilla and tonka, the teak wood and pepper make it "adult". If you appreciate perfumes like Baccarat Rouge 540 (for the mineral part) or Pi by Givenchy (for the almond), but are looking for something darker and woodier, this is an almost obligatory purchase.
Smells like Diet Coke and marzipan; oh so smooth and sleek fragrance. It's an underrated masterpiece, exquisite and sophisticated. The accords are sweet but no one will think you smell like a dessert. The cold mineral vanilla aspect is reminiscent of Diet Coke and the almond truly smells of marzipan in the most refined way. The tonka dry down gives the illusion of faint toasted coconut. Ultra niche quality, long lasting, super minimalist and unisex, maybe even slightly masculine in a good way. The vibe: Snobby gorgeous face like Kate Moss but with timeless aesthetic like CBK. Frugal chic before it was trendy. SADE on repeat. Diet Coke on tap at home.
Got this as a decant and I must say its not bad.. It sits very close on your skin..so, I sprayed 3 on my neck, 1 on my wrist and 2 on my shirt. I definitely over sprayed because it gave me a headache... BUT I did get one compliment the first day I wore it so I guess it worked. The almond is there, so is the vanilla but I am getting a fruity smell?? it is definitely present with the rest of the notes that is listed above. Smells like a coffee cake to me. Very cozy if I say so myself. As someone who does not like overly gourmand colognes, this one is inoffensive to me but definitely do not overspray it, I think 2 sprays is good. Projection is good (I over sprayed) Would I buy a full bottle? Yes I would! Stay curious my friends, and keep smelling them cologne/fragrances!!!
Upon initial spray on the tester strip, i was in love. Found myself smelling my wrists all day until I decided to own this incredible scent and recieved it less than 2 weeks later as christmas gift. Beautiful vanilla with tonka and almond, extremely sophisticated scent. I was going to wear this for special occasion only due to its price point, but i just cant resist. I want to wear this every day! Soft, yummy, rich. Dry down is divine. Edit* 7 months later, and this is the best fragrance I have ever owned or smelled! If I had to choose one perfume for the rest of my life, this takes the cake. this is an ELEGANT girl in a bottle <3
smells like a 50+ retirement community
it s extremely pleasing ,smells like dried down angels share with a little bit of tobacco
I wish I could join all the great reviews, since I just got a whole bottle, after one try and almost blind buy, but this is a woody spicy, manly scent, not a creamy vanilla, almond cosy as described. Cardamom is not listed in the notes, but I feel it very strongly. There were almonds and something metalic at the opening. Then straight to spices. No vanilla, no milk or cream. I hate it at the moment. I hope I'll manage to exchange it for something else. I love Orchidee Vanille, from the house. It's a beautiful, feminine and well blended violet vanilla even if staying power isn't great, and Musc de Soie is a gorgeous clean musc, bit this one sucks.
I don’t know what it is about this fragrance. It’s so light, absolutely amazing. Not the strongest projection, but it sticks and it’s smells so good. Was trying to decipher where I had smelt it before and came to the conclusion that it’s similar to the smell of a nice hotel. I definitely recommend this. Perfect for men and women
This is a perfume you HAVE to let macerate. The tester in the store smelled so amazing and sweet and perfect. So I bought one and all of a sudden it smelled slightly masculine and woody, so to get to the tester level you have to macerate it with the cap off. Also it kinda smells like commodity milk.
I only tried Van Cleef & Arpels Bois Doré once, but it stuck in my mind and Icould not forget about it. So I finally went for it, ordered it, and it arrived today… and I am very happy I trusted my instinct. It is such a beautifully sophisticated warm perfume. Winter scents can sometimes get a bit too much - too sweet, too heavy, too over-the-top cozy. But this one finds the perfect balance. It still has that comforting, warm, enveloping feel, but it stays elegant and refined at the same time. It feels luxurious. I’m genuinely thrilled with it. It is one of those rare buys that feels instantly right 🥰
Milky Creamy Almond Woody Soft vanilla Airy Silky smooth Aromatic Comforting Cozy Last review: (11/05/24)”Airy, non sweetened milky almonds. 7/10 for now “ Update: Open peppery & metallic, drys down to a creamy milky almond & musk made light & airy. Not sweet at all to me. This is elegant! It doesn’t need to scream. This is one I’ll spray on my scarf & behind my jacket or collar & enjoy. I’m still warming up to the fragrance because I’d prefer it to be slightly sweeter without over doing it. Overall 7.5/10
I finally bit the bullet and got a full bottle of this for retail bc I haven't seen it on any discount sites for ages and I'm terrified of it being discontinued. It's not super unique, but there's something different and special about this. It feels simultaneously warm and cold, it's not your typical 'warm sexy gourmand' but you can find that type everywhere these days. This is more sophisticated, androgynous and airy thanks to the metallic top notes. It feels elegant, it's also very powdery which always feels effortlessly sexy to me. Basically if you've smelt Velvet Tonka and Luna Rossa Black then this is like their cool non-binary child.
This is Vanilla perfection 2nd bottle that I've ever purchased for myself, found it last year on eBay for $90, now a new bottle goes for 200+ there. This is absolutely my favorite perfume, it's so comforting, sweet, creamy. It's like an Almond Vanilla pie, it's so beautiful. this isn't sexy, it has class, and a very HIGH one at it! Fuck I use this so rarely for special occasions to not run out of this juice
Bois Doré by Van Cleef & Arpels feels like a golden mist settling on the skin...warm, smooth, and quietly magical. It has this “wet” velvety depth that makes it feel alive...almost breathing. As it develops, it glows softly, turning into something rich and slightly savory, like warm woods touched by sunlight after the rain. It’s elegant and steady, with a fairytale kind of beauty that lingers for hours.
I finally got a bottle of this thanks to my homie Patrick who sent me this, and Rock rose by clive christian for free!!! He’s the best i’ve done trades with him and when he sent me this i felt like a kid of christmas..It’s a gorgeous and unique vanilla that feels cozy yet sparkly. It’s got character for days and performs well too, i think it’s a very nice unisex almond, minerally?, vanilla fragrance maybe some powderyness and slight tobacco i just absolutely love how this works off my gf’s skin too. Sleeper for sure gets absolutely zero hype.
I truly appreciated its scent profile; it is unique. Unfortunately, the ambroxan didn’t sit well with me personally, so I eventually decided to part ways with it.
Such a gorgeous, effortlessly elegant scent. It's warm and dry but still a bit creamy. Vanillic but not necessarily sweet. It has notes of almond but avoids the coca-cola or marzipan effect some almond notes have and is so sophisticated and beautiful. On my skin the sillage and longevity are somewhat disappointing, but I just adore the scent profile so much it has become my signature.
VCA Bois Dore really deserves all the hypes and attentions. Glorious and sublime perfume that defines classy gentlemen or ladies who wear it. Wonderful unisex fragrance that exudes elegance. Van Cleef and Arpels has many hidden gems waiting to be found.
