Camel

I have been on the Desert riding a camel. I won't say smells just like it but is absolutely 100% evocative of that experience. Smells like you are riding the camel and you get that strong animal scent (not poopy, skunk or pissy just animal coat)of the camel coat mixed with delicious fruits, spices, the delicious sweet scent of the desert sand that release under the heat of the sun. Absolutely amazing scent but it's not for everyone you need to have a specific type of nose and preference.

So good! (and simultaneously stinky). Once you smell this, there's no descending back to non-niche bullshit.

this might be the worst fragrance i've ever smelled. smells like straight up horse barn, complete with manure and straw. disgusting

Smells like a urinal cake

This is one of those perfumes that broadened my horizons regarding the genre. I am actually quite familiar with scents of this style, yet this one is certainly far from ordinary. The moment you spray it, it opens with a magnificent aroma of dates and dried fruits. I can also clearly detect the civet note right from the start; for me, civet is a very warm, alluring note, and it accompanies the fragrance throughout its entire lifespan—here, it has been utilized with great mastery. The most prominent notes for me are dates and dried fruits (I believe these two are what evoke the atmosphere of a Middle Eastern market), along with myrrh and civet. While the projection and performance could have been better for a fragrance with this DNA, the scent itself is truly wonderful. It is an intriguing creation.

Heat with incensey cinnamon and myrhh, a hint of sweetness but a thick scent, the rose is apparent on immediate sniff but very nose-blinding prone scent and you'll stop detecting Rose but the resinous powder. Its a vintage/old fashion scent, it reminds you of an old childhood feeling but can't recall a specific scenario. It just has a nostalgia 90's memory at your grandparents home. Its harsh and strong but softens and develops softer and becomes much nicer. Its unique and beautiful, dry down to a resinous powder, soothing and nice but won't be buying a full bottle

It' s a little desert, you will cross it quite fast. The opening takes you immediatly on a desert oasis, there is a bazar selling spices and dryed fruit, frankincense is burning, the air is dry, warm, thick. There are (white) sweet flowers blooming around and something animalic in the air, the fur of the camel is there (but not too much in your face). Then the vanilla - benzoin - myhrr thing starts to grow and at this stage of the fragrance the projection is very good, you can feel this aura around you of dry sweetness, rich, with a lot of facets: spices, resins, fruit, this animalic furry thing, and the woods giving still more depth to the fragrance. Just wow. When I tested this the first time I was so happy... until I discovered that it has a big problem of performance. And I'm not even someone obsessed with performance, six hours for me is totally ok, but here we are talking of two, two and an half at best. Then it fades away, just gone, you can barely pick up a slight woody-musky thing touching with your nose the sprayed skin. I can't even explain this, and it's not only on me, I wanted to test it on other people because I was so sad for the short duration of such a good fragrance, but nothing. Two hours and it is gone. I really don't know how the longevity can be rated "long lasting" for this, WTF. And it is even more wierd because reading the notes you can see some materials that are supposed to last a lot: oud, musks, vanilla, synthetic sandalwood, synthetic civet ecc... how is this even possible? It is so sad. But it is what it is and that makes it not worth a full bottle buy. Nonetheless if you want a couple of hours of a very good oriental, dry, rich, slighly animalic fragrance it is definitely worth testing. Unisex, more suitable for evening, and even if I like it expecially on summer it can be used in every season. It was a super good voyage through the desert, just that desert was a tiny one.

The myrhh alone smells like an orthodox church, which i love it, but other than that, the overall fragrance comes close to old fashioned eastern fragrances of low cost. I was surprised with the poor longetivity

If possible, find the bottles in the black box (real vintage), those that had their formula changed when they switched to the white box. I once used a bottle from the white box and was asked what scent it was, being both sweet and cool. Meanwhile, what I truly needed when using Camel was a thick, ambery, fruity, and civet scent. Fortunately, the bottles from the black box perfectly satisfied this. The brand always claims not to change the formula, but trust me and try it once; most creations, when they transitioned to the white box, had their supporting notes removed, making the scent a bit stark and the performance much worse compared to when they were in the black box. Wong, after COVID, became more in need of money than ever, leading him to make his fragrances worse.

Not unpleasant but it smells like a turkish bazaar and that's it. Which would be alright if it lasted. It doesn't last. Nothing from zoologist does which is insane considering the price range. This one's particularly disappointing because i expected it to perform better given the notes. Boo!

Camel used to be one of my least liked Zoologist's perfumes, because it didn't "last" on me or maybe because I got rapidly anosmic when wearing it. So, I tended to no wear it often, although I've had it for about 5 years. I wore it yesterday, and this has been a whole new experience for me (I don't know why); not only I didn't go anosmic on Camel, it lasted all (my working) day! I don't know what changed, but Camel was there, all day, creating a great scent bubble around me; the myrrh, the olibanum, the dates and dried fruits, and the civet. I can finally say I love it and not just "like" it. Big, major love from me 👍👍👍👍

very realistic environment. Immidiately took me to a desert with camels. Dried fruits also present, perhaps the camels are eating them? SOMEWHAT of a shampoo sent (not soapy, but like a fragranted shampoo) scent in there, but overall incredible environment. Scent-wise its a winter scent. But as long as you are alone, wear it during summer to be immersed... Would i wear this normally? NO! Would i wear this for the emmersion? YES. It does its job perfectly. Love-

Theres no challenging animalic notes, its just a plain dusty cheap 5$ attar you'd get at a middle eastern spice market. It somehow came up even worse than Zoologist Bee. Zoologist is legitimately a scam, intended for Western audiences who never experienced rotting fruit from humid spice markets in a 3rd world country. It is not "challenging" or "boundary pushing". It is a marketing gimmick. Thank you Victor Wong for scamming me out of the 300 something CAD I spent on this horrendous discovery kit. Honestly, its my fault for trusting him ngl. Only 1 good perfume came out of this entire goddamn house (Panda - civet opening, pleasant floral + mossy mid, mossy drydown). The other 36 samples in the discovery set were complete ass. Edit: you know what, im not done complaining. I'm gonna give you alternatives of Zoologist fragrances that I thought were tolerable since this brand doesn't deserve to make any revenue in 2027. Tiger - dry woody vetiver, kumquat note is non-existent. 2nd most pleasant scent from this house. Buy Fat Electrician for a barely sweet version of this perfume or Guerlain Vetiver EDT or EDP who do vetiver with nuance. Squid - If you want an ink accord, She Was An Anomaly smells like ink + the inside of a pottery barn or a crate and barrel. Dragonfly - Nasty mossy chypre. Evernyl bomb, literally try any other chypre. Or Mitsouko. Penguin - alright this is a tolerable cold suede, still feels industrial and nasty. I'd rather not wear a perfume at all if I had this. Clean Suede by ELDO is comparably ass, too? TRex - simple birch tar + dark rose attar bomb, you can get this stuff for a few dollars at any middle eastern/south asian/SEAn spice market. You're literally getting bent over by paying MSRP for this. Alright, my rant is done.

This fragrance makes me imagine how the character Lou from the 1986 movie Back to School, played by actor Burt Young would smell after he takes a shit in a bingo hall wearing plaid golf pants. I don't hate it, but I don't like it either...

Exceptionally blended and deep. So many of the notes come through. It is a bold scent, and would need to be worn at the right time, in the right place. You would need to be dressed up and have the confidence and charisma to match this perfume. Not a blind buy, will sit differently on different people. For me as it sits, it leans into the tonka and musk which is quite nice and non-offensive, but it seems for others the animalic note can come out and it gets fecal. I don't get any of that myself, and got some compliments on this one.

On my skin, first impression is “this is skanky” and thus begin my regret of committing to wear all Zoologist perfumes to work. Camel is an animalic, ambery and balsamic fragrance. I get notes of civet, sweat, benzoin, amber, jasmine and oranges. In alphabetical order, this is the most challenging one yet. Considering i just rode a camel weeks ago, i am in quite an apt position to see how fitting this is. Definitely it captured the essence of a camel who hasnt seen a shower in weeks, the funk is quite on point. The rest of the supporting elements of this perfume i would say is a generic representation of the Arabic culture, myrh, incense, oud, dates, rose. So if i were to paint a picture, it would be in the perspective of a camel with his Arab owner riding him. In the dry down, the civet note tones down quite a bit and what is left is a gentle sweetened amber, with a sour twang. Upon further dry down, whats left is animalic sandalwood with dusty cinnamon. I would have loved if this fragrance had a cashmere note to reflect its furry nature, and a drying effect to represent the conditions of the desert. A better-blended, slightly weaker version of Chris Collins’ Kingmaker: dried fruit, Oud and musks. I was hoping for something more interesting, but Camel is very easy to wear. Sweet and comforting. It also reminds me of a less funky version of Amouage King Blue. Way overpriced. I much prefer Hyrax to this, though it could easily be someone’s signature scent if you dress well.

I ordered about 10 samples from Zoologist last year and fell in love with Hummingbird, Cow and Chameleon. Camel was one of the dislikes. Yesterday I took out all of my spring scents including my Zoology samples and on a whim decided to wear Camel for the day. Was rather blown away, this time around I am adoring it. Seems to really work well on my skin, and I normally do not like Amber or incense and myrhh type notes, let alone animalic notes like civet! In this perfume it somehow just works! This scent blooms in the heat gorgeously and I get the dried fruits, not too sweet as in Sticky Dates. Swooning now!

Doing a bit too much without any strong direction, not offensive or bad in any capacity but it just doesn't stick for me. Just some nondescript dried fruits and spices over a woody and resinous backbone, the date note is interesting on paper but that's totally lost in the composition. Has very little lift or likability; just a forgettable take on the genre.

I like it very much it reminds me of a little bit of interlude woman by Amouage

This is probably one of the craziest perfumes I’ve ever smelled. I’ve smelled about a dozen of the zoologist perfumes and so far this is the only one that made me think ‘yep, this is the animal it’s inspired by’. Very impressive and multi layered, with slight dirt and animalistic notes that 100% smell like a camel. As usual with this brand, I’m not sure how wearable I would find this on my skin, but worth it for the landscape it provokes.

This is such a luxurious smell, but it’s wildly not what I imagined. What I expected to be simply dried fruits and civet (which terrified me) was instead a dry, almost mystical scent. It reminds me of the botanicas I’d visit as a kid, where the shelves were lined with incense and Florida water. I was so scared of the civet smell, fearing I’d smell like an animal in a bad way, but as it lingers on my skin, it’s not really noticeable. Still, this is such a great scent, not sticky or cloyingly sweet, deeply rich with plenty of depth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Not a fan of this one. The civet sits weird on my skin and the incense smell is overpowering. Just not for me

Opens frankincense and soft rose. Followed up by dried fruits giving a not sweet but fruity undertone. Cinnamon warms up and provides a greater dryness, alongside a soft powdery jasmine. This is ultimately dry, rich, lightly floral and spicy/fruity. It's very balanced, and quite nice. A too of the zoologist I've tried, overall an incredibly pleasant experience. I feel it captures a kind of desert Sunset with a warm breeze kind of vibe.

Every time a camel meanders through the desert it treads terra incognita. The sands move and shift constantly. The grains on which the camel treads today were not the same ones as yesterday nor will they be the same tomorrow. Don’t expect this to mean that the perfume is something novel. It isn’t. It’s a fruity, spicy, resinous, and animalic amber that we’ve had over and over, but I must say it is done very well. As a camel plods along it’s a complete mystery to me and others unfamiliar how it is that a rider or cargo holder stays balanced on that massive hump - weebly wobbling along up and down and across dunes never seeming to lose the center of balance. This is the perfume’s best characteristic: balance. Carbonnel’s blend of sweet and dried fruit notes, smokey incense and resins, woody spices, civety animalics, and dark earths is impeccable. Sweet, bitter, sour, umami, light, rich, wet, parched, and all things in between. The prunes and dried figs are treated with elegant frankincense and rose, giving them a rich and dark hue, and lighter but silken textures. The cinnamon forward heart locks hand-in-hand with the incense, adding depth and dimension to the wispy tendrils. Cedar and green myrrh add an aromatic and resinous sourness to give it lift. Hay like florals, a big slug of civet, woods, and tonka relay Oriental amber with an elegant cured pipe tobacco finish and classic French chic musky animalics and leathers. Camel achieves something that is unfortunately all too rare in this genre of Oriental ambers, namely being very easy and comfortable to wear at any time for any reason (unless you dislike civet/animalics), while still being rich and interesting without feeling too heavy or self-important. The depth, breadth, and balance of this goofy animal is quite mesmerizing and majestic when you take a good long look at it.

Pure frankincense and drieed fruit with no sweetness. I like it, I think its really interesting but I expected it to bee sweet atleast a little bit but it isnt at all and I dont likee that. I rate it a 6.7/10
