Chanel Platinum Egoiste for men is one of my ultimate top ten fragrances. It's one that got me into fragrances back in 1993. My review is of the original formula, which was strong and motivating. It projected fantastically and always garnered compliments. It was a fresh, uplifting scent that made you feel like you were invincible. I am not kidding. It was motivation, in a 3.4 ounce glass bottle. A uplifting scent that would definitely carry you throughout the entire day. Today's formula is simply weak. For the life of me, why do fragrance manufacturers do this to legendary fragrances? If it wasn't for Dior Fahrenheit, CK Escape, CK Eternity, Aqua Di Gio, CK One, and Chanel Platinum Egoiste, I wouldn't have such an affinity with fragrance. All of the above fragrances pale in comparison to what they once were, and it is a shame. This was one of the greatest fragrances ever created. Chanel, if you are reading this, please bring it back to what it once was and stop making the current formula. You are tarnishing a legacy.
Melhor perfume para trabalho/dia dia do mercado! muito facil de agradar, extremamente confortavel por ser EDT e rende muito elogio, sem duvidas perfume da minha vida. 10/10
I've smelled this on tester strips probably close to a dozen times and never liked it. Today I actually sprayed it on my skin and it's blowing me away. Fresh, clean, and masculine with a metallic barbershop vibe from the green rosemary. Not even a hint of any sweetness. Makes you smell like you have your shit together. Timeless and incredibly versatile.
9.1/10 Just a lovely fresh scent. Super high quality and long lasting. After around 7 hours it becomes a woody skin scent.
Timeless, classy masterpiece. I am 23 and I comfortably wear it. Old man, 30+ blah blah is BS.
Timeless! Is it? Probably not! Timeless for me - I love it! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy EXCELLENT work Jacques Polge! You can do no wrong! INVEST BUY NOW INVEST!!
My bottle is about 12 years old now and wow- gathered strength : "mission accomplished" as the old talking G.I. Joe used to say back in the 1970s. I am not normally a lavender fan because it has been used in products like tissues and even (I think) toilet paper back in the day to keep things "fresh" . And in recent times dishwashing and laundry products . So it's become a "tactile" device . As well as being very affordable. That all said - my vintage bottle (well. the last 1/10th of it) smells refined and fluffy as a cloud. Hard to believe this was created in 1993 . It has the vibe of a 1940s into the 1950s classic "dandy dad at the barbershop" cologne. Just a note to people suffering with depression: Lavender is noted as a good antidote ! Not only that - so are neroli and petitgrain . Rosemary could not hurt either. So there you have happiness in a bottle. I have NO IDEA what new bottles smell like and I'm already getting depressed over it as Chanel (and DIOR) have been destroying their classics into "high class body sprays" since 2014. IFRA bullSHEET ! Vintage bottles of this - are not hard to track down if you are a Raider of the Lost Scent. Check ebay.
smells like man
This is a fragrance for a confident man that has it all together. Leans older, but it’s so corporate and bossy. It has sharp, metallic herbals that soften as it dries down to become a smooth, almost velvety woody and aromatic scent. It’s super clean, ever so slightly barbershoppy, and well composed. Certainly no bubblegum sweetness or fruitiness here. 9.3/10
This is what an elegant silver fox who f***s really well smells like. This is considered an old 90's type of fougere, it's a spicy, aromatic and after shower kind of fragrance. It smells like a high end shower gel. I know that's not a compliment to a lot of people but it's the truth. That's the scent profile. I find the dry down (after about 1 hour or so) to be even better. I love it, there's something very manly and clean about it. It reminds me of a man who has style and is not concerned with other people's opinions. Definite alpha.
Only a few ml left in that bottle that my late dad gifted me in 1999... • The difference between the OG and current bottles is perceptible. Especially in performance and depth. • Part of that is due to aging, but I am convinced reformulations have nerfed this fragrance right into the ground. • This EDT had a perceptible metallic edge, serious lasting power, and it pushed really hard off your skin. • As much as I loved wearing this in the 2000s and early 2010s, I've been stretching it thin, owing to nostalgia. • I even picked up a bottle of Armaf Legesi to make it last a while longer (layering PE over Legesi). • To me, this scent was and still is totally associated with the optimism of the 1990s (à la Wind of Change). • Unfortunately, tempus fugit, and once it's finally empty, I'll be moving on. Not gonna chase a vintage bottle on eBay.
This smell reminds me of my dad
Smells so green metallic and old school....
I know that at one point in time this had Juniper Berries ???? What happened and when did they remove it
Beautiful, timeless, clean masculine aromatic fougere that is very inoffensive. It's also an aromatic fougere in a way that is not after shave esque. If you're a vintage scent lover you're gonna love this, but in my opinion it's really overpriced for what it is.
I love classic fragrances like Dior Eau Sauvage, Old Spice, Paco Rabban classic, Aramis, and Kouros, but this one is simply awful. I can't find one redeeming quality about it. Synthetic (bad synthetic not good synthetic) to a fault, and gag inducing industrial waste vibes. The name of the house is selling it, not the scent or the quality. One of my absolute regret purchases, as I can't stand it even as a bathroom freshener.
I can see what they were going for, and I really want to like it. But all I can think is, "Well... at least it'll keep the mosquitoes away." I'm probably too young with no reference points to nostalgia scents.
Clearly very well made and a high end product. I can see it as an originator of a clean green almost sports trend, replicated many times, kudos for that. Unfortunately for me though it has a memory of awkward 90’s / 00’s teen years having oversprayed a fragrance too grown up for me. To me it is a wrong fragrance, wrong time. This takes nothing from the quality of it - just not for me.
I swear god theres a ton of BASIL in there...it gives me Dior higher and hugo boss hugo vibes...theres so much basil in there...Do i like it?? I LOVE IT!!!
It has a scent reminiscent of fougère notes such as rosemary and petitgrain lavender, with jasmine adding a touch of sweetness. 8/10
A timeless classic, a quintessential fougere that is so versatile: gym, office, errands, date, night out.
I see the appeal, and it does what it does well, I just don’t like this style. This is one of those you can wear anywhere any season. Got that super mega barbershop shaving cream like almost minty or like mentholy freshness, very much body wash also, like that dove mens body wash my dad has always used, so it makes me think of him, which is nice, but I’m not my dad Smells just like Burberry men, if you’re on a budget you can find it at Burlington or Ross for like 30. To me it just reminds me of older guys, not grandpas, like that guy who’s 35-50, has his shit together, probably has a meeting to attend to that day, type of guy you’d go to if you were a woman in his life with a problem she needs taken care of. And if I’m being honest with myself, I’m not this guy, I’m 22, I’m going a little crazy with the scents right now and this one is just not special enough to spend 160 on. So yeah it’s admirable, I just don’t enjoy it, and also I felt like typing about that because I just sprayed it on my hand at Nordstrom, so yeah. Peace : )
This one is the archetypical classic old school fougére style fragrance that is capable of holding a place in the modern era. Very masculine with that classic barber shop vibe, but got enough of a fresh twist that you don't smell like twice your age even if you're in your 20s and decided to wear Platinum Egoiste. The lavender, petitgrain and fresh floral notes are the star of the show here but the warm woody accents give the scent a strong backbone and thus it's got a good performance and even projects well quite long (at least on my skin). A very well constructed, beautiful and elegant fragrance that projects authority and being a composed gentleman. It's not too dense to become cloying even in warm weather, basically making Platinum Egoiste a perfect all-year fragrance. Of course in the summertime, I like wearing it more for evenings. And compared to other Chanel fragrances, this could be picked up for reasonable prices, I guess because it's nowhere near in popularity compared to the BDC or Allure Homme lines. But I like this more than any of those 2. The only fougére that beats this one for me is Pasha de Cartier Parfum, but this comes a close second to that. So the scent is gorgeous, the performance is above average for me, sillage is decent, not loud and room-filling, but inviting and friendly (great for date nights too if you got nothing else at hand), suitable for any season, the only thing I could complain about is the cheap plastic cap with that fingerprint-magnet chrome finish.
Platinum Egoiste by Chanel is a totem to a different time. Its shining achievement is to stand across the social chasm of the time between when it was launched in 1993, and today and still somehow be as relevant and cool today as it was then. It smells great. That is all it needs to be, and all it needs to do. Life is hard for everyone these days. It feels like everything is much more difficult than it ought to be, or used to be. Everyone seems more scared of everyone else and more scared of who they are, in a time when we are all supposed to be loving each other and ourselves more. The women still have it hardest, still in 2026, and that shames us all. But us guys do not have it easy either. We carry. We support without question. We show up, every time, without fail. We keep on keeping on. We go out there and we provide, no matter what. It feels like nobody cares how we feel. We cannot take a sick day. We cannot phone it in. Nobody cares about what is going on with us; nobody is interested in the struggle. We give everything for our families and those around us and society expects us to stay quiet and keep our problems, worries, fears, dreams and battles inside and not to talk about them. Every day we also have to exorcise the demons of past toxic masculinity, and be held martially responsible for the misdeeds and mysogyny of the men who came before us, but are not us. It is a tougher gig than people realise. But we do it. That is what I love about this fragrance. You spray it on, you go crazy and give it twenty sprays and it is like a hug from your best mate. It is that knowing nod from him, that look when things are going to shit around you, just so you know your mate is there for you. Us guys - all of us, I guarantee it - know very well the look I mean. The "You good man? I got you brother." look. Platinum Egoiste isn't loud or showy. It doesn't screech in people's faces, it isn't ostentatious or attention-seeking. It performs, but not in a conspicuous way. It doesn't provoke anyone and it doesn't bring out an emotional reaction from me or anyone around me who smells it on me. It is all things to all men. It is just a classic, fantastically well-blended, very current aromatic fougere that you spray and it makes you feel reassured that everything is going to be okay. I am strong. I work hard. I am powerful. I bring it, every single day. My hopes and dreams matter and I will make them happen. I protect my family and those around me. No weapon formed against me can prosper. I am a good man. Three Word Summary: Myself Every Day. Scent - 9/10 Sillage - 7/10 Drydown - 7/10 Bottle/packaging - 8/10 Performance - 7/10 38/50
I finally became the 90s “old man” this fragrance was warning me about. When I was younger, this smelled “too adult” to me. Now I completely understand the genius behind it and why this is a masterpiece that survived different generations. Platinum Égoïste is sharp, aromatic, metallic and absurdly classy. Lavender, rosemary and green notes create a clean barbershop vibe that still feels modern decades later. It smells like confidence, discipline and expensive shaving cream in the best possible way. Ironically, I had to become the exact type of grown “old man” this fragrance was made for in order to truly appreciate it.
كلاسيك جميل احبه بعد الشور
One of the best and timeless scents I've ever smelled. Think about metallic airiness with a touch of class and suitable for everyday wear. Mostly for day gatherings and office. This released in 1993 but easily can get passed as a 2020's fragrance. Definitely the true meaning of crisp, masculine, confident. Almost represents a turning point in fragrances. When you first apply it, has the 90's dynamic fugere vibes, on dry down turns into something younger from late 2010's. Fresh green citrus with a little bit hint of delicate cucumber and the performance is really above expectations. Will not dissappoint 10/10

As I ziptied Saddam Hussein’s hands behind his back, I noticed how gorgeous he smelled. For a man who had been living in a hole stocked with hard-core pornography and Cocoa Pebbles, his aroma was downright classy. In the ensuing months, I befriended the downtrodden dictator as my unit helped guard his covert prison cell. Yes, Saddam was responsible for various international atrocities, but he also made me giggle with his Porky Pig impression. We bonded over tiddlywinks and soda pop, our mutual love of history and Backstreet Boys music bridging the cultural divide. One day, I mustered the courage to ask Saddam how he had smelled so good despite his subterranean living quarters. He smiled and reached into his back pocket – technically his bumhole since he wasn’t allowed pockets. Out popped a slimy 30 ml bottle of “Egoiste Platinum.” “This,” he laughed, sharing one of his few English words. His face softened as he extended the bottle to me. A wartime gift. Thank you, my friend. Two decades later, that bottle of “Egoiste Platinum” occupies a special place on my mantle. I occasionally spray it on knowing that I will smell good, SadDAM good!
