Rating: 8.0 Sillage: Below Average Longevity: 4-5 hours Creed Original Vetiver is an incredibly fresh, clean fragrance. It feels effortlessly refined and smooth, like stepping out of the shower. The opening, which is easily the best part, is a blast of freshness. Devoid of any sweetness, the freshness is purely green and soapy—sharp and crisp. As it reaches the mid, the vetiver begins to unveil itself. To me, it smells and feels subtly vegetal. At this point, the fragrance rapidly begins to fade, becoming a skin scent before disappearing completely around the five-hour mark. I really enjoyed my decant sample and gave it about seven proper wearings. I just wish it lasted longer, especially that incredible opening.
This is an absolute masterpiece in perfumery. Not for kids. The price alone makes that obvious. I have a very large collection and this was my final “holy grail” purchase. Green and soapy. Not overbearing. I wear this because I love how it smells on me, not because I’m looking for compliments. It is definitely not for everyone, but is perfect to me.

Expected a bit more seeing the price point, oh well it aint bad
I was excited to try this, especially since Wild Vetiver was such a letdown and should have been called Wild Rose. But anyways, this smells like fresh, soapy grass. I like the smell of grass, but I don't want to smell like I just got done mowing the lawn. A bit of a letdown in my opinion.
Original Vetiver opens with citrus and vetiver and then settles into a smooth and soapy combo that reminds me heavily of the soapiness in Imagination. This can be worn by anyone all year round. It's so simple in it's composition but so well blended that you can't help but love it. I especially love wearing this after a shower or in the summer heat but I wish it lasted longer.
To wear this is to become grass itself. to eat grass. to encompass GRASS. Personally though, I don't think grass smells that good. Like I don't hate the smell of grass. But grass also isn't worth 200$ in my personal opinion. Maybe I have a shit nose at the moment, but it's realistically all I can pick up. I just sorta hoped this would have the other notes stick out a bit more or even had a tinge of sweetness in some way, but... it's just GRASS: the fragrance.
Got a sample of this and I gotta say… this just smells like Irish spring. This is Irish spring, at an abhorrent price point. Maybe I don’t have a very trained nose… but I’m pretty disappointed
On paper it is straight heaven. Beautiful cool vetiver and dries down to smooth woodiness. Then I tried it on skin and it was horrible. It’s probably just my skin chemistry and I’m not saying the fragrance is bad in general it just smelled like bruised lemons, grass, and a strange wood scent. On skin 3.985/10 on paper 9.2135/10
Creed #8 - “Oh shit, here we go again” As it happened with Amber, and with Incense before that, i’ve reached a “point of content” with Vetiver aswell and my excitement for it lessened in time. As much as i love the note, how many times can it be twisted and turned in order to achieve a trully unique composition centered around it. Not that often to be honest, and my recent experience with Frederic Malle’s Vetiver Extraordinaire confirms that by not being nearly as “extraordinaire” as it claims to be. Smokey vetivers, clean vetivers, dry vetivers, damp vetivers, grassy, rooty, full bodied vetivers. At one point or another i’ve smelt all the interpretations. Admitedly, there’s one more vetiver perfume im curious about and that’s Sultan Vetiver by Nishane. Spoiler alert, the Nishane discovery set is gathering dust in my drawer for over half a year now and its time still hasn’t come. Talking about taking my time with samples, but...thats a story for another day. Today the focus is on Original Vetiver by Creed. Being a Creed, i knew not to expect complete uniqueness but the one thing the house specializes in is blend quality and smoothness. Sure enough, that is exactly what i get in Original Vetiver. It opens up as a smooth, classic, borderline dated aromatic. A slightly soapy fragrance where the eponymous note of vetiver asks for a little patience before it reveals itself. It takes a couple of minutes for the ambiguous “aromatic haze” and soapy touches to settle down and make way for the vetiver. Once that happens, the vetiver showcases some distinct facets and altho they aren’t something unencountered before, they are beautifully rendered in this composition. The vetiver is grassy and one of the reviewers below said he was reminded of the time when he sat on a wet patch of grass and the smell stuck to his jeans. Its a funny association but a true one nevertheless. Its also rooty, and most importantly, its dusty. Its as if the vetiver plant was completely unearthed, you removed all the clinging earth from its roots but, unless thoroughly washed or soaked in water, you can still smell the dry dust and porous earth on it. To my surprise, the vetiver isn’t taking over the scent and i’d even dare say its more of a background or base accord. At the same time, its still the most distinctive note in the perfume, as it should be. Without it, the perfume would end up being an aimless and once again, kinda dated, featureless aromatic. Compared to Vetiver Extraordinaire, its not inferior in terms of blend quality because it is Creed afterall, but it does feel less complex and a bit more oldschool. The vetiver in the Frederic Malle is accompanied by touches of pepper and more accent on woods, thus giving it a few more, albeit thin and minute layers. Also, Vetiver Extraordinaire feels like a less “clouded” perfume then Original Vetiver and i blame that on the previously mentioned “aromatic haze” and soapyness. In the grand scheme of things, the two perfumes aren’t worlds appart and i suspect that the differences are more obvious at skin level. At the end of the day, both are mature scentprofiles suitable for office enviroments but they are also more then that. The vetiver, thanks to its distinct characteristics, ensures that the perfumes are a great company when being out in nature. In my opinion there are no better scentprofiles for relaxed nature hangouts then vetiver ones.
I can’t add much to what many have already said. Anyone who loves Mugler Cologne cannot help but also love Original Vetiver, as the latter is a more masculine evolution compared to the unisex freshness of Mugler Cologne. The opening is citrusy, made sparkling by ginger; it then settles into notes of vetiver blended with sandalwood, with a base of musk and ambergris, a Creed signature. Compared to Mugler Cologne, the fragrance leans toward slightly more woody, masculine, and refined tones, but the similarity is undeniable. For me, Original Vetiver is the best fragrance from the Creed house and one of the best fragrances ever, but there is little that is truly “original” about it. Unfortunately, their very poor longevity is something they share, despite their very different price points. It’s a masterpiece, but the price is too high for the performance.
This is a clone of Mugler Cologne, coming a few years after it. This is a very fresh fragrance with a little bit of sweetness. It smells like Mugler Cologne with a rich earthy vetiver note. The vetiver here is more pungent leafy and fresh; it's not gritty like the vetiver in other fragrances. It's a good fragrance, and I like the concept of the "clean vetiver". But all that being said, when I'm looking for that simple fresh soapy fragrance, I'm more often reaching for Mugler Cologne rather than this. I really enjoyed my decant of this, but I'm not getting another one. 7/10
My Lord, this stuff is soooo fresh. It's a mood picker-upper, and elegant! Worth the price!
Instant love. Fresh, sudsy soap with a grassy sparkle and musky base, perfectly blended. Full bottle ordered.
I remember really liking this one at the mall. So I bought a tester for a great price ($165) and I got it, and I didn't ever remember it smelling so... citrusy and soapy. On skin, the citrus part (which smells a lot like lemon on me) pops off a lot. It almost smells cheap. But on paper, man, it really shines. It's so much cooler and fresher on paper. On skin, it warms up and the lemony citrus comes off soapy. On paper, it cools down and the iris makes it very refreshing. In the end, on (my) skin it's okay. On paper, it's amazing. Looks like I'll be over spraying this on my clothes for one day this summer. I have so many fragrances to rotate through that it's hard to wear them all more than once- but if this pops off on clothes like I want it to, I might even wear it THREE or FOUR days this summer. That's a joke, but not really.
Yikes guys I like this one but it changed too much on my skin, someone said it smelled like “cologne” and they didn’t say it in a nice way. lol. Maybe this is not as good as we fragheads think, since we get captivated by the opening but truthfully this fragrance falls apart quickly into grass and white musk that is frankly not very pleasant and smells dated. A much better take on fresh vetiver is Roja’s Vetiver parfum cologne.
I had a CM batch and sold it bc longevity was poor last year. Got a F batch in a trade and boy, idk what happened but the longevity is great. Thought I would sell but something about this in spring time and now performance is great. 8+ hours.
I love Mugler Cologne. It is a soapy summer staple. After The Fragrance Apprentice review I was curious to try Original Vetiver if it builds up on this scent profile. Right away you can tell these two fragrances are created in a very similar way. They are still distinct enough though. Original Vetiver opens up with photorealistic lemon zest. Such a great opening. It dryes down to a grassy vetiver base. With Mugler Cologne I get mainly herbal petigrain body and musky base. Two scents are tied throught this green soapiness. TFA's analogy of Original Vetiver sampling Mugler Cologne and recreating it is rather fitting. I still like the petigrain forward Mugler Cologne, but OV is a great remix and worth a purchase If you love this scent profile.
This smells exactly like Bigelow Lemon Lift tea. Not bad, it’s pleasant. But it’s very boring and not worth the price.
I agree with the previous reviewer…smells like a 5 star hotel soap (almost like an oatmeal soap)…to a T…vetiver is quite tame and fresh in this one
Love this one. Classic. Smells like you just woke up and showered with a beautiful soap in a five star resort. Green, earthy, clean, musky, soapy. WAY better than mugler cologne.
smells like an expensive mosquito repellent
I once sat on a wet patch of grass (back when I used to go outside) and the smell stuck to my jeans and no amount of washing would get it out, this is what that smells like.
The first ten years they made this, it was the best thing ever, still have like 15mls left in my old bottle, and there is nothing like it. At all. I even smell like a honey at the start and it is the most complex fragrence I've smelt. Smells like a honey lemon tea at first and fades into wood. 11/10 pre 2015
Most detectable notes for me: Orange, Ginger, Vetiver and Sandalwood. Review: My all-time favourite fragrance. This is a beautiful, versatile, office-friendly scent that I find both uplifting as well as incredibly relaxing. The opening of the citruses and ginger provide that lovely sparkle/fizz. I have to give it to them, the ingredients Creed have sourced for this are second to none. Vetiver can have that dirty/earthy smell but this is not that at all. Again, Sandalwood can occasionally come across quite ‘varnish’ like, but this is probably the smoothest I have ever encountered in ANY fragrance. Unfortunately, Creed changed the notes of this fragrance for the worse in my opinion in 2025 (note the slight bottle redesign as well). This pre-2025 formulation is the best (green fading into black bottle). Season: All Use: If green, smooth, soapy scents are to your taste, then you certainly won’t be even a tad disappointed with this absolute masterpiece. I think this is Creed’s best, as you can literally put this on for any occasion.
I like most Creed fragrances but this one is a big disappointment. Yes it smells fresh and clean, but so is the foam soap in a restroom. Smells just like it, at least on my skin. Longevity isn't bad, projection is poor.
a tastefully fresh take on green vetiver topped in enough citrus to make it shine and resting on a sandalwood that smooths and rounds it out.
The worst 3 months of the year are upon us. Temps drop into the 60's and 50's, the sun hides behind a gray sky, and Original Vetiver, the perfect summer cologne, sits unused on my shelf. Now, of course I have Thé Noir 29 to keep my spirits up for this arduous stretch, but the fact remains that this cologne is the scent incarnate of the best time of the year. As I said in a previous review, it smells like the first pool party of the summer. Day drinking. The fourth of July. Falling in love on a summer day. The walk to get lunch after spending the morning on a gulf beach. I could never wear this in a professional or classy situation. This is for fun. Pure, unbridled, wild, early-20's fun. I can't wait to spray it again.
One of those scents that are so magnificent in its simplicity. This is freshness to another level. It smells pure and almost ethereal, like a fragrant breeze. Makes me think of crisp dew rolling down blades of grass on a brisk morning in the English countryside. It’s so charming and gentlemanly without leaning into that polarising maturity that ruins a lot of green fragrances for me. The ginger is the standout show - gently spiced but not intense, lifted by a squeeze of fresh bergamot. It’s one of those scents that I can’t just throw on. It has to be sprayed delicately on a tester strip and savoured like a treat. Even with the marketing, insane pricing and issues such as batch variation, you can’t smell and hold a bottle of something like this in your hand and not think you’re clutching the very peak of luxury perfumery.
Anyone know the last batch codes for this? Or the new codes for the new version? This is in my all time top 5, I need a bottle of this before I can't find it.... Such a beautiful rounded smooth natural perfume. Nothing beast about it, sits close to your skin and despite what people say it actually does last 6hrs or more... just not strong at all. For me thats perfectly fine, this is a perfect office meeting, boardroom type fragrance... smells clean, natural, won't offend anyone. I LOVE how it is chill and not a screamer like other Vetiver perfumes. For people complaining about performance fair point especially for the price but for what I Use it for, nothing comes close and I've tried hundreds on hundreds of perfumes. Just is this just blissful... 10/10 for me. I will always wonder how this perfume is sooooo smooth and has an aura about it. Not many perfumes do and I have no idea how to describe it but this is one rare perfume that has its own 'aura'. Guess its just unique....
