Strong, detergent, body-wash kind of scent. Might work during the summer at the beach or poolside. Long-lasting. Not my jam.
It changes quite a bit on skin so don’t let it persuade u in the air. It’s a classic. Is it the best, no but I’m glad I have it just to have in my collection. Not bad on the dry down. Super masculine aquatic barbershop. Much deeper on skin
I like it now after about a week, but the first few days it smelt like a lemoney piney air freshener to me. the sharp lavander and mint mixed with the pine and moss notes somehow ends up making a pseudo-synthetic lemon accord, but if you can get past that it's a pleasant green scent. it reminds me of leau bleue dissey quite a bit in the dry down.
I don't know if it's just because I have a 10 year old bottle of a discontinued cologne, or it's just the cologne itself, but this one basically just smelled like lemon Pledge to me. Nothing more, nothing less And it's not bad, lemon Pledge is a decent enough scent, but I still couldn't help but feel a little bit disappointed But considering that I only spent about $7 on it, I really can't complain too much, especially since I've never owned a discontinued fragrance before
Super sharp barbershop at the beginning, but the dry down is surprisingly addictive! It is a type of fragrance that is perfect for going to the gym or exercising, because it is soapy, not loud, and at the same time, the scent keeps you smelling clean. I saw some comparisons with Polo Sport, that I can agree a little, but Polo Sport starts with a synthetic outdated citrus. This one is better and the dry down is more smooth. Let's be real, it is not my favorite, but I paid $5.99 at FragranceNet, so for just having one to burn out, it was a steal!
Fantastic underrated scent from the 90's a very unique scent 👌 discontinued but still available for a reasonable price 👌😀
Surprising take on Drakkar, but well done. It keeps a slight lean into that classic OG vibe, but splashes in something like Loewe Pour Homme (a classic warm barbershop scent) and some old fashioned blue deodorant scent. I was worried that it would end up smelling like cheap deodorant upon my initial wiff, but it kept its head above water and maintained enough of that barbershop vibe to be likable.
Horizon. This is a great one. Herbal, green-blue, very masculine. It was quite a bargain when I got it, and I used it up quickly.
This is a fantastic pick-up if you are somebody who enjoys 'classic' scent profiles and therefore struggles to find fresh fragrances that aren't too juvenile or modern. It's essentially a freshie, but the AI summary "Loyal to classic fougere origins" is dead-on. I can't describe this any better than AndySmellsGreat below. For me the strongest note is that lovely sharp, green, celery-like one. It's laid over a slightly aquatic, slightly fruity lavender, with a salty texture. Brilliant fragrance.
It’s like an instant pick me up… snorting a huge bag of cocaine only it’s pleasant All these green herbal things with dry lavander l, buoyed by pine needles and artemisia woods salt and oakmoss makes this a get the fuch out of here punchy gents scent. I love it - just wished it last triepple…
Sampling 1993's Horizon on a blotter, while gazing at its most curious blue bottle, can easily lead one to the convenient conclusion that he is smelling a blended hybrid of early 90s trendy, scent profiles. Namely, a cross between Horizon's famous sibling, Drakkar Noir, and the equally iconic Cool Water (Davidoff), ...and that may be partly true. Yet Horizon also has some additional sweet 'barbershop' florality to it that both possible parents mostly lack. ...and yes, Horizon may indeed contain a whiff of that slightly disturbing, caraway note. In any case, Horizon now exists on final clearance, mostly as another oddity for vintage fragrance explorers to sniff. ...but who knows? There may still be a few, rare iconoclasts out there determined to personally revive this half-forgotten and somewhat harshly-profiled flanker. If so, good luck to them. It is bottle aficionados that may have the most to marvel at here. The idea seems to have been a redux of that famously ovate 'drakkar' silhouette, but now rendered anew as deep blue, transparently cracked ice floes. However, for some reason, the bottle also reminds me of those ominously rugose alien eggs shown in the film, Alien and sequels. Edit: The test blotter I made with Drakkar Noir and Cool Water together is actually bringing me more joy than the one with Horizon. Truth.
my old pastor used to wear this, many memories. great for outdoor work, colder mornings, and going out to casual events.
I do like most scents but this is the worst bottle of edu I’ve ever bought. Kitchen or bathroom cleaner is what it smells like with the first spray. It does get tolerable with time, but still not great. But hey for $8 you get what you pay for.
To sum it up, take a leather boot, fill it with old wet ashes, drop in a head of celery and some mint harvested from an old woody plant. Then polish the boot with green detergent. I don't think it would work too well on a younger audience. A decent composition. If you like celery and leather. I like it. It´s well thought out. Thankfully the detergent is gone in less than 30 mins. Performance is quite good for edt. Could be a welcome change from your typical modern calone citrus helional aquatics. The detergent opening loses it a few points. It isn't my very favourite, but it is probably the one bottle that has grown on me the most. The dry down is awesome, fresh, manly, leather, lasts for hours.
It was quite an elaborate "walk along the shore line fragrance". The smart phone yoof would diss it. But they prefer twerikng to ballroom dancing so what the hell dp they know ?
This juice evolves with time. Spray, smell it till it dries, carry it with you for some time. Wait some weeks. Spray, smell it till it dries, carry it with you for some time. Repeat. You'll see the differences, you'll start to get more of the notes, appreciate more the composition. These 70s-80s fragrances have so much notes that they bug our noses. People back then were used to these smells, and had "trained" noses from their houses - and everywhere they could smell these around. They knew what to expect, they already had the mid and drydown memories from previous experiences, the mixes with different ambients and skins. So it takes our untrained noses some time to figure these scents out nowadays, because they are not so present around us. But once you get it, once it clicks, oh man... You're in for a ride! This is valid for all the "classics" with a plethora of notes in their formulas, something I've been macerating from my personal journey. I notice classics that I had any nostalgic experience with are instantly loveable. But others that I'm only getting acquainted to now are making me go through this process.
Horizon really does have that old school vibe and I like it. Even though the green minty citrus notes seem to be dominating up front,Oddly enough it comes off with a little aquatic vibe that has that 80s-90s fresh musk drydown. Performance wise its very good at about 7 hours and for the price its a great deal. This was a blind buy cheapie that paid off.
What can I say about this fragrance? It's definitely different, unique..it's got a blend of the 80s and 90s in one fragrance. I found Horizon to be soapy, smokey, green and abit aquatic. It's definitely not a powerhouse scent, by any means but if you over spray, and on clothes, this could stay with you for a good 6+ hours. As I think about it, I can see why this didn't take off in the 90s because of the strange way it morphs from the 80s, into the 90s and then back into the 80s, as it settles down. But what I can say, is if you're into hidden gems, that no one talks about, that is strange but captivating, at the same time, try Horizon. You might be pleasantly surprised.
For me, this smells rather like those multicolored incense sticks or cones you can buy at Thai tourist-oriented markets, right out of the pack, not burned. That said, I like that smell so I like this one, too. In fact, how it's supposed to smell like anything other than incense is a bit of a mystery for me. Well, those incense products are labeled with names of various flowers, so in that way it makes sense.
OK, so I see that I'm not the only one here who had been eyeing those $7 bottles on FragranceNet. This didn't seem like a blind-buy safe fragrance, but I had to spend a few more dollars to hit that free-shipping threshold, and rather than load up on sample vials I figured I would give Horizon a try, because why not?! What I got was an unabashedly masculine fragrance that is still "fresh," even by today's standards. Of course, back in 1993, that term didn't mean citrus and calone, but rather a full-on assault of green notes, livened up by a good amount of mint and supported by the usual moss/leather combination typical of many fragrances from this era. discardedandroid below called it "sharp and bracing" and I couldn't agree more...but I actually really like it! Does it smell dated? Well, it's certainly closer to, say, Sung Homme than it is to anything on today's market. But as someone who uses Irish Spring body wash, that's far from a turn-off. In fact, I think Horizon is even closer to that invigorating, soapy smell that so many users have compared Sung Homme to over the years. This fragrance is not going to knock your socks off, but it shouldn't be nearly as polarizing on here as the ratings and reviews suggest, and if you're into the late 80s and early 90s style of fragrances, I think you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't try it.
Dang. Shame on me for sleeping on this Bad Larry for so long. Best snag a bottle before the cool kids catch on and prices start to get silly.
I bought two of the cheapie bottles. One is in perfect shape the other has a bit of celery for a few minutes. It's unique! The same way Patou Voyageur is unique. Horizon is like a sunny day on the porch of a wood cabin, with a garden, on a lakeshore, in a pine forest.
One of the best bang for your buck, It is a herbal aquatic fragrance and lasts for 5-6 hours with moderate projection. For 7$ on fragrancenet after tax, you cannot go wrong with this. If you like burberry touch and herbal/mint smells, you will like this.
If fragrances can be roughly categorized by the colors they evoke, HORIZON is greenish-blue with tones of tannish-brown. The green-blue isn't oceanic; it's more of a freshwater pond not far from the sea, abundant with vegetation and bordered by trees. It smells of such a scene on an otherwise dry summer evening, the air itself heavy with moisture, salt, and the herbal freshness of living things, but without anything stagnant or decayed. For me, that's what's so mysterious and unique about it. There is indeed nothing like it.
This is another LaRoche masterpiece. Right up there with Drakar and Drakar Noir, only in a different way... It's exactly what I think of, when I think of an "aquatic" fragrance... There's just enough of that salt note, and just enough of the aldehydic notes to remind me of a crisp, breezy day on the coast. As the goofy A.I. "rundown" states, this one ain't gonna be a "crowd pleaser" to the iffy modern noses... But it certainly was a crowd pleaser back in the days of people not being so overly sensitive... It's funny to think that what a younger person considers "gross" these days, was something that people would actually chase you down to smell 40 years ago. I'm 58 now and still don't "get" what happened to people's olfactory senses in only a fifty year span. Anyway... This one is so unique, I'd bet that if one of the new Niche brands marketed it for $300 an ounce, it'd probably get hyped by every Fragrance Guru on the internet and there'd be waiting lists to fill the orders on it. It's THAT unique. And thankfully, it's somehow still dirt cheap. I'd highly recommend to purchase at least one bottle, if not for wearing, but to use as a reference in your collection. Fragrances like Horizons are disappearing and the ones that are still around are mere ghosts of what they once were, due to reformulation and artificial, made up bans in certain ingredients. It's hard to tell if this one has been reformulated, but to my nose, I can't tell a difference between what is sold now, from what I remember back in the 90s... Not a safe blind but, but then again, what's 20 bux these days?
This has a BO element that is really off-putting in the opening.
So so unique, i bought it because my dad used to wear it when i was a kid in the early 90’s . Very interesting blend of 80’s barbershop cologne and 90’s fresh fougere , for being a Drakar flanker, it keeps the characteristics of the original, but with the green mossy notes it elevates the fragrance into something completely different and spacial. Very masculine green. earth and water. a walk on the Southampton’s beach at sunrise. A beast performance for an EDT, strong silage, you don’t want to splash too much it could become overwhelming for some noses .it last at least 6 hours on skin . Even more on clothes. True gem, like some would say here, for mature adventures manly men . 9/10 for me do
Unique pleasant masculine scent. I found it once and never again. I would rebuy it. Has Niche character with certain complexity. Great Fragrance with an average performance. Fresh and spicy. Performance: 3-6 hours Sillage: Arms length For whom: Unisex >30 My background: I only write reviews about scents I have worn already (until the bottle is finished or given away) or are in current use. I'm a Gentlemen - middle aged - predominantly in an executive office environment wearing suits and representing with many official gatherings.
My thoughts on this one have changed a lot over the past few months. Something clicked after obtaining Horizon accessories (soap, spray&stick deo, and the shaving foam). As expected, they go very well with the cologne but - believe it or not - are all a bit brighter, a little less medicinal, and more pleasant. In fact, I have been using the foam as an effective moisturizing fragrance--its consistency is slightly dry compared with Barbasol shaving cream and so closely resembles Avon's excellent after shower body foam from the early '60s (also highly recommended, btw). In short...I now "get" Horizon, which I did not in my earlier review. It may become my warm weather go-to scent - - it's now firmly in the upper half of my all time top 10.
---2nd edit----Woah, every time I revisit my bottle of horizon Im more and more impressed! so I first purchased my bottle of Horizon back in November 2024, it had moderate longevity and projection, plus id go anosmic to it pretty quickly. I hadnt used it in a couple months bc of the weather cooling down and so I wanted to use my more Fall/Einter appropriate frags, but ended up choosing it today (was craving it). Its really macerated very nicely! Its stronger smelling, and lasts much longer now and I couldnt be happier bc my only gripe was the "Ok performance". Also, im no longer going nose-blind as much, idk if its bc some of the notes are more pronounced now like the aldehydes which I pick up just a bit more of, but only in that Horizon seems "Fizzier",now, yet its still NOT really aldehydic as youd only pick up on the aldehydes if ya know its in the notes. Man, just when I thought Horizon couldnt get any better! Just ordered my 3rd back-up 2.5oz bottle, lol. This stuff smells really great! I love it! One of THEE BEST cheapies around hands down! 9 outta 10 frag imo!
