Dzing!

DZING! is a masterful interpretation of a theme and Mme Giacobetti’s palette runs the spectrum of leathery, spicy, wood and gourmand notes, as tricky as a taming a wild animal under a big top made of transparent soft toned gauzy colors spun into a dreamlike softness that sparkles on the skin. DZING! opens taking no prisoners with whiffs of elephant dung (castoreum) and sweaty horses. Nothing really fecal to my nose, but definitely redolent of musk and the smell of hay after elephants, horses, monkeys and big cats have spent the night. on my skin these first notes are pure genius and I can almost hear thunderous applause; there is a striking dry sawdust accord mixing with turpentine and an odd platiciized floralcy of daffodils and lilies. The sleight of hand is in her deft use of P-Cresol, which is difficult to work with. It can overpower all your senses. Instead Mme Giacobetti wraps the P-Cresol animalic and floral aromas in a memorable cellophane wrapped bouquet that would be in the performers' dressing rooms. As Dzing! develops it begins to soften more on skin and the scent of the saddles are dusted with cinnamon and saffron, then sweetened and sparkles with gourmand stickiness of benzoin and vanilla. Overall, this fragrance is a tribute to the Circus: I can smell the leather lash, the dirty sand scattered over the arena, the hairy smell of the ferocious big cats lying inside the cage, children’s caramelized apples, the spicy cloud in which “Jafar the Great” dissolves his assistant. Excitement, fear, nostalgia, all mixed together. It's a strange scent, hard to understand, I think that if you don’t like it to madness, you are only to hate it because it’s very exciting. Giacobetti’s skills has been able to keep it an inch from "too much". On a woman's skin feels warm, sugary, spicy; she's wearing it for herself and is not afraid of receiving "strange" compliments. I believe Dzing! is a fragrance unlike any other. Its central note is leather, and yet it often feels as though it remains slightly in the background. When paired with musk, it creates an impression that is truly animalic — even subtly predatory. At the same time, this creation by L’Artisan Parfumeur is warm and deeply sensual, or at least that’s how I experience it. It’s also a fragrance that never becomes dull. Gradually uncovering all the nuances woven into the composition by Olivia Giacobetti has been a genuine pleasure. As an added note, my girlfriend was very fond of it as well. In fact, I would personally recommend this scent for a date. Despite its circus-inspired character, I’m confident that wearing Dzing! won’t make anyone see you as a clown — quite the opposite. This is perfumery of the highest quality. My rating: Highly recommended! (7/7)

Joyous leather! Have you never smelled leather that’s full of joy, fun, and happiness? Smell Dzing!. In terms of structure and high-level characteristics, Dzing! is actually fairly routine. It wasn’t the first put a fruit note over leather, and it wasn’t the first - even of that aforementioned set - to go down a slightly sweet faux-gourmand route either. Dzing! stands out amongst the pack by paying attention to the details that make the creative brief come to light, that is the smell of a circus. The opening, at least for me, is an instant smile. Red Washington apples flecked with caramel overlaying black polished leather. Of course in literary description that doesn’t sound like the type of thing that should work but olfactorily it works brilliantly - and has in many forms before Dzing!. It’s happy and it’s fun thanks to the tastefully fruity and sweet apple and caramel but the leather lends itself to the message as well by being properly leathery animalic but far from any sort of skank-fest. As the perfume evolves it becomes clearer as to why: Giacobetti performed a neat circus trick by linking the leather over the top over animalic musks, vanilla, and bright and slightly smoky woods - not placing the leather in the base. Without a funky castoreum or styrax or birch smoke base feeding the leather note, Dzing! manages to give a sweet circus treat closure that reminds me of powder-sugar sprinkled fried funnel cakes and cotton candy. The end of the perfume is not nearly as sweet as those descriptions would lead to you think, it’s actually quite understated and tasteful. This should come as no surprise since Giacobetti is the queen of quiet, finely detailed yet powerful-statement perfumes. I’m a sucker for a great leather perfume, as any of you who have followed me for some time are well aware - and I own a lot of them. Despite its conventional structure it’s those fine details Giacobetti pays attention to that call-back Dzing! to my mind time and time again when I think about the great leather perfumes of the last 30 odd or so years. It’s just such a shame it’s gone… much like circuses, I suppose. Though circuses disappeared for well-principled reasons. Dzing! disappeared because… well… you’d have to ask Puig and L’AP but their reasons are likely to be less principled.

Quando leggo o sento recensire questa fragranza come animale, feroce,selvaggia e puzzolente mi viene da ridere. E' quasi identica a Black di bvlgari, cioè ha una nota di the nero,dolce e caldo, un sottofondo ambrato e leggermente piccante tipo zenzero,una mela rossa candita,odore di carburante,molto evocativo e carino ma di animale, sporco e volgare non c'è nemmeno l'ombra. Credo che le persone si lascino condizionare troppo dalle favole che raccontano per presentare le fragranze e ne siano suggestionate.

Circling back here to say that the closest modern fragrance I've found to my beloved Dzing! is Epona by Papillon, it's beautiful, check it out. I'm also keen to try Once Upon A Time, the new release by Francesca Bianchi as the notes look quite similar.

I am obsessed with this scent. I would love to buy from anyone selling. It's like I'm missing a part of my soul without this scent. I try to layer and find alternative options but there is nothing so grounding for me as Dzing!

Just horrid. Dzing! is a disappointing unusual scent inspired by the circus, dirty sawdust, animalic musk, and elephants! Smells like stinky elephant poop. Tonight I impulsively grabbed my bottle of Dzing which I hadn’t worn in way too long. I doused myself in it, and WOW. This is gorgeous. I had to come here and find out what year it was released, and 26 years on, I’m blown away by how good this is. If this had been released in the last two years, I feel like it would be an Instagram sensation. People would rave about the beautiful balance of leather, wood, sweetness, and the touch of smoke. I’ve considered doing reels of myself smelling and talking about some of the deep cuts from my wardrobe, but the normies I know IRL would probably tease me about it.

Dzing era un profumo originale, carino e suggestivo,appena spruzzato sentivo l'odore di un asfalto nero con sopra un camioncino che passava,un palloncino rosso, odori di zucchero,the nero, mela candita, pellicce, sembrava un cartone animato. Poteva assomigliare a Black di bvlgari.

Searching for a bottle (or sample) of this in Australia. Each review varies so much it would be interesting to smell it for myself. I'd love to find one, sorry for being so forward but please let me know if you are selling one :)

Dzing! is so atmospheric, yet it works as a beautiful perfume. It’s so fun, smells amazing on skin… I really don’t understand why this was discontinued. Really hope they bring this one back, I haven’t found anything else like it. Hoarding drops of a decant… send me a message if you’re selling a bottle

This is the only perfume containing saffron that I’ve ever loved. Immediate obsession upon first sniff. Not nearly as sweet as the notes here led me to expect. Medicinal in the best possible way. Can’t get enough.

Dzing! is supposed to be an unusual scent inspired by the circus, reminiscent of cardboard, sawdust, animalic musk, and candy. On me, though, it smells like almost nothing at all except a little vanilla and ISO E Super. It’s so dilute it’s almost imperceptible. Olivia Giacobetti does tend towards extreme minimalism, and maybe I’m also anosmic to some of the notes? IDK, but on me this was not perfume.

I've never smelled this, but based on what I know about Dzing!, L'Artisan should seriously consider bringing this back. There's a tremendous desire for weird, unusual fragrances amongst today's young fragrance enthusiasts. I'm sure that despite whatever reason they discontinued this, it would be more popular today. *If anyone is selling a bottle or decant, please message me.

was going through my perfume collection and found dzing! way in the back. i have a small older bottle with the tiger. i never actually wore this out bc i was scared of the challenge. every time i let friends smell it the reaction was always unpleasant. me, i kinda liked the way it smelled but i acknowledge its pretty different. i smelled dzing in a later reformulation. that one was much tamer, kinda spicier, far less leather musk animal. and tbh i kinda liked it bc it seemed easier. it was still dzing but not as wild as the older formula i have. analyzing the perfume now i smell: in passing (like if smelling this on someone passing by) warm, fuzzy ambery, then almost a vague cherry leather. intriguing. studying the way it smells on paper its still warm fuzzy ambery and definite leather but there is caramel, chocolate. the leather has a darkness, some called it dung and i can see that but i read it as more like a leather boot. i swear im getting a tart green apple cutting through. caramel apple. its there and i believe that was one of the original's notes. overall this is not an ordinary perfume. not mainstream. lots of depth. if i smelled this on someone i was standing around i would be totally intrigued. its not a strange smell, i would definitely think its perfume. there is something captivating about dzing! it smells really good but the animal and leather is ever so slightly off putting but not totally. i think that aspect is what makes this something i keep coming back to. like slight repulsion but also delicious and addicting. welp sadly i see this is discontinued. was hoping to get a newer bottle to wear while this older one lives on in my dwindling collection. shame bc now i really want to wear this out .

My foray into niche fragrances started somehow with L'Artisan Parfumeur, mainly due to its affordability. I purchased a few of them, but before that I had a discover set (I think it was a 10 sample set). When I tried Dzing I felt sick to my stomach. The leather was so realistic and intense. It reminded of cowhide hanging in a barn to cure. Forward 10-13 years, oud and leather are my favorites notes.Today I kick myself for not adding Dzing to the collection. In my opinion, Dzing is the best real leather and a must have for aficionados. Unfortunately it is very rare to score a bottle, and if so it'll be for an astronomical price. The good old days of real amazing (and affordable) niche fragrances are gone. Today, the niche realm is over saturated and way overpriced.

This was my signature perfume from age 25 to my early 40s, I’m so sad it was discontinued! On me it smells of the sweetest leather, caramel, chocolate, amber and smoke, a woody animalic gourmand that always brings compliments. I have half a bottle left which I use on special occasions. Still head over heels with its unique layered fragrance. Been searching for a comparable perfume ever since - let me know if you find one!

sometimes when i get interested in social media reviews despite my better judgement i like to come here and look at the reviews and opinions people have about this fragrance. back in the day this caught a lot of hype and i think it smells alright its just wildly feminine and how this caught on as a hype beast for men over a decade ago now is beyond me. its really interesting and well formulated juice though. its been discontinued and id like to smell it again but im not trying to pay a premium to do so.

I love it. Not to wear ,but to indulge myself in it at home while puffing the magic dragon;). I detect manure and hay wrapped in horse saddle and I love every aspect of it. Im heart broken that this masterpiece is really nowhere to be found anymore. My bottle is 8 years old , was a blind buy and is running on fumes. What now??? !There's nothing even remotely similar to Dzing! on the market.

Unusual dusty scent that smells like gouache paint and a bit of sweetness from cocoa powder. For me it smells like a place, not a person, but still very pleasant and intriguing. It also has some nutty, woody and leathery notes, but they are not too dominant. Follow me on IG: scent.guide
