It's just an opinion, but this is the best Margiela.
One of my first introductions to perfumery. Absolutely wonderful scent. Smells green on opening, but turns into a white floral (but not too sweet) scent. After wearing it for a few hours, I always think I don't smell it anymore, but if I change clothes I smell it again. Blends in beautifully with my skin. Just wonderful. I love it, I don't think I'll ever get sick of it! Opening notes are very fresh but not too light: I get the bitter orange which adds depth to the citrusy opening. The bitterness is not herbal, probably because it’s lifted by the white florals. It’s very green, but not like fresh grass. To me it’s the smell of spring, when trees are just starting to blossom. The first day you bike without a coat on. It has a bit of that laundry smell in it, too. The smokiness doesn’t overpower at all, just gives interest and depth. It’s what makes it different from let’s say Anti’s jardinier, which starts so beautiful but dries down way too floral for me. The dry down is extremely addictive to me. It’s something powdery that I love. Still pinning down what that scent is. A specific type of musk I assume. I forget about it in winter, but each spring I reach for it again.
I fell for it the second I sprayed it on a tester strip at 10 Corso Como back in 2011. I’d never smelled anything like it, and I became instantly obsessed. I wore it every single day. I even used to smell the bottle cap before bed just so I could take the scent with me to sleep. It was my first "niche" perfume and the reason I fell in love with galbanum. Back then, you couldn't just find it anywhere; it was exclusive to only a handful of stores, which made it feel even more precious. Even though my taste in fragrance has evolved over the years, my love for MMM (untitled) hasn't changed a bit. This fragrance does not need a name. It simply speaks for itself. *Just a fragrance enthusiast, nothing more. Reviews written only for scents truly loved. Follow me on Instagram: aromaraum
It was a cold winter Saturday afternoon here in the UK when I reached for this. A relatively new addition to my collection. I expected to just enjoy the cap scent and reach for something else. No. This powdery, serious green goddess just hit me. I find it calming and the cedar grounds it, and I do like greens in winter. I’m also a fan of Galbanun but never has it hit like this for me, maybe it’s the Boxwood. I don’t really get the bitter orange. My skin eats scent but this holds its minxy integrity for a good 4-5 hours. I’m a Daniela Andrier fan and this wafts in a similar way to Infusion d’iris and her more recent Belle d’Amour for Fragonard. It’s quite private, no noisy scent trail, but in truth I wear perfume for me. It’s a mystery, I can’t always smell it on my skin but I can smell it around me. Unique and yet familiar. This is love and a back up is needed.
This EdP version of Untitled is straightforward galbanum-angelica-mastic greenery galore. Think of galbanum from No.19, angelica x mastic (lentisque) from Frederic Malle - French Lover or now-discontinued Angéliques Sous La Pluie. It has these rooty, musky, cold, stemmy vegetal cocktail that's hard to dislike, that if you are into it. I know some people do not like these vegetal scents, I love them. If you like this scent but worried about performance, French Lover would satisfy better though at a higher price point. Daniela Andrier explored such musky vegetal combinations in most of her "Infusions" series for Prada, and indeed this one have similar accords from Infusion d'Iris and L'homme, though less iris/violet forward and more on the galbanum (still a key ingredient in Infusion d'Iris). The base is again similar to French Lover, though quite naked without the dry woody amber and cedar and abundance of ambrette-type musks - this one puts olibanum forward with potentially Iso E Super, perhaps more closer to the drydown commonality of CdG Series 3: Incense fragrances. Between this and French Lover, I would choose French Lover but for the price point this is not bad at all, it's actually very nice, comforting green scent.
During a recent summer sale, several Maison Margiela fragrances were on sale for 60%. I have decided to purchase one of their older releases, Untitled, after checking out the notes and being really intrigued. I have bought another galbanum/mastic resin dominant perfume from Prada, during this summer, created by the same perfumer like for Untitled, Daniela Andrier and I was mind blown by how beautiful and intense that Prada creation is. Therefore I have chosen Untitled hoping for another galbanum instant love. It’s really nice, but it’s very weak! I like how fresh and green smells, but also floral and woody in the background. For a warm, hot, humid summer day, Untitled is perfectly fine! Otherwise, you’ll lose it right away… Upon first impressions, Untitled opens with a vibrant green, bitter accord, created by galbanum and complemented by fresh, citrusy accents from bitter orange. I can’t comment on the boxwood note, cause I am not familiar with, but I detect a subtle jasmine, woody, smoky nuance. Again, everything blended smoothly and very subtle. As a conclusion on Untitled, I love the scent, I hate the performance! The perfume itself is really nice, green, fresh, energising so I don’t think it was heavily discounted because it’s not an appealing smell, but because the longevity sucks. The sillage is intimate. It’s the type of perfume that you can overspray with confidence because there’s no way it can get offensive to anyone. It’s just too light! For me, it will be a summer holiday scent.
Now this is perfumery. Beautiful scent.
I've had this perfume for quite some time, and considering it's been discontinued (as far as I'm aware), I'm trying to preserve it for as long as I can. Firstly, the longevity isn't that great, as well as sillage. When first sprayed, it hits you with a green, sharp bitterness. That dissipates pretty quickly, and after that, it smells like smoky jasmine (..tea?), followed by some woods and soft musc. It's absolutely lovely creation, very hip and urban scent.
This perfume introduced me to galbanum. Wasn't familiar with it before. There's an interesting cocoa-like quality to this scent. I'm not sure if it's galbanum or something else, but it reminds me of the dusty smell of dry cocoa powder.
There's nothing unisex about it. It's feminine, period. For me, it's a disappointment.
First of all, I don’t get any woody notes, and the citrusy opening fades really quickly, leaving just a powdery floral scent with a slight sweetness on my skin—maybe from the olibanum resin. I don't agree that it's a challenging perfume; actually, I think the surprise comes from the fact that the brand usually creates more complex scents, and this one feels pretty ordinary and lacks a signature. After just over an hour, I can barely smell it on my skin, even with my nose right up close. It’s far from a bad fragrance, but the performance is mediocre.
Nice article on this one posted here by Anastasia Privalova from 2024 for those interested. I like it. The sour-green profile of galbanum meets a resinous musk. It's not listed here but the article points out Daniela Andrier included lentisque in the formula. Lentisque is an absolute from the Pistacia lentiscus shrub, from which you also get mastic essential oil. I haven't smelled them in isolation but apparently lentisque shares some of the balsamic, woody qualities of cistus. I definitely get an oddly bitter, herbaceous-woody quality in the base but it's not warm or ambery. It has this waxy, muted green kind of aroma that feels a bit vegetal. It's definitely more in line with niche styles than the mainstream Replica series. From the article again- "According to Andrier, these ingredients possess both beautiful and ugly aspects, and if they were combined in a special way, they could realize Margiela's vision". So there's definitely some odd sweet-musky-herbaceous thing happening that to me feels a bit like stewed plants. I'm somewhat reminded of scents like Oh, ooOoh ...oh by Miller et Bertaux. That is more wood-forward but still grounded in a bitter, herbaceous, and lightly smoky cistus aroma. Anyways this is nice but I'm not sure how much wear I'd get out of it as a matter of personal preference. The "plant" aroma in this case feels less fresh than these typically lean. May update after I use up my sample.
I tried to like this but I just couldn’t. Under that green smokiness there is something a bit sweet smelling to me. Looking at the notes, I’m not sure what exactly it is. It just doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the composition and causes this to smell very off putting to me. This is definitely unique but it’s just not for me.
Love at first smell. Unique green and gourmand profile. Love the resinous part of it. A lovely perfume.
How nobody has already compared this to Elizabeth Arden Green Tea is beyond me. Instantly after first applying it I was reminded of it and then decided to compare both. I actually had a hard time telling them apart. Lovely green scent with floral hints throughout, ideal for spring and summer. :-)
Peas…and I adore it!
smells like my grandmas garden.
I love this perfume. It smells like a combination of wood scents and some green/clean elements. I really like wood for winter and this is perfect for me. The package and bottle are very pretty.
smells like piss
Green but unexciting
Finally it hit me l’air rien but less halitosis wish it was still available
This could be a part of Replica series under the name of "drunk kissing somebody in a park after having an obligatory drunken cigarette". I get it - not everyone can pull off smelling this cool.
First time I bought this perfume was in 2010, since then it has been permanent in my collection. A fresh perfume but with depth, it is the scent of a light green color, a peaceful forest.
I am always looking for unique scents and this is it, something I have never smelled before. I still can't tell if I love it or hate it and to be honest my expectatives were huge after reading most of the positive reviews here, they were very accurate tho but I have to say I imagined something totally different. My first impression was a fusion of peppermint and cucumber water (I know it might sound weird but my mom prepares this as an agua fresca) after a few seconds It turn into a fresh galbanum mixed with the bitter orange and a hint of cedar which I like creating a combination that it's hard to imagine. Luckily, I can't feel the incense and I'm glad because I don’t really like it although after a 1 hour I feel a very potent resin that lingers on my skin for the rest of the time If you are looking for a green super fresh soapy scent, this is not it. This is a deep unique dark green fragrance that I am sure it's not for everyone.
Daniela (Roche) Andrier is a genius perfumer. Some of my favorite fragrances are her creations.
If green was a perfume, this would be it. A grassy, herbal, hay-like smell. Very dry in its characteristics. I enjoy wearing this occasionally, but it is so distinct and a bit impersonal - so it would never be a candidate for a signature, everyday scent. More of a specific breeze on some days.
100 ml bottle 99% full if anyone wants to swap <3
(untitled) is of my favorite perfumes of all time. It's so unique, and yet wearable, light, and lovable. It's spring, and it's raining out. The grass has just been cut. You walk down a wet stone path to a house, possibly the house of a close friend, someone artistic and smart, a friend you've always admired and wanted to emulate. She has just repainted her living room, the drying paint smell still lingers. She is burning some sort of clean Japanese incense, and offers you a cup of green tea. This is what (untitled) evokes for me. A cozy, calm, ethereal experience, yet urban, artistic and hip at the same time.
This scent a pretty harsh green opening, a reminder of when as a kid I used to pick up dandelion and their sour milk covered my finger. This lasts just a minute, then the perfume develops into something completely different. On my skin this is a lighter, slightly less sexy (but still very intoxicating) version of Eau Mage by Diptyque. The same animalic scent, the same "who is smelling like this?" effect on people. In my opinion this scent is able to stir deep emotion in some persons, so wear it with caution. I'm in love.
A beautiful fragrance. Something like a day-time walk in the woods after a rain shower during spring time. Nice, green, fresh, slightly woody. Wonderful fragrance and feels like great quality ingredients. One of the nicest fragrances I have come across.
