This one is as generic as a fragrance can get. Do you want to smell like the 2020s? Explorer Platinum is here for you- all the Walmart men’s grooming aisle smells captured faithfully in to one bottle! At bit blue, a bit musky, and a whole lot of whatever aromachemical passes for cedarwood these days in the drydown. The drydown is an atrocious experience owing exclusively to that droning, buzzing eternal synthetic mashup of amberwood, ambrox, and iso-e. Why designer houses just love to build every single men’s fragrance on this foundation these days is beyond reason, but here we are I recommend exploring a different fragrance

So, ill go ahead an address the performance first, Montblanc-Explorer Platinum is EXTREMELY EASY to go anosmic to! If this is sprayed anywhere near someones face, they will no longer smell it after an hour or two which is why Im sure is why the performance ratings are all over the place with this scent. I know this bc after having experienced just that, I just did 2 spritzes on my arm (far from my face) and I could clearly smell it for nearly 9 hours if not more! The projection is also quite nice bc I was catching whiffs of it throughout my 8 hour work shift. As Platinum dries down, I am getting some Santal 33 vibes, but Platinum is most certainly NOT a dupe! Theres a "creaminess" to this which some have compared to "Coconut: and I can sort see where theyre coming from. Also, the Violet Leaf is cranked up to 9 here and there this has a very Ozonic/Crisp/White Button up shirt quality which Im really digging! Now, while again this has some similarities to Santal 33, this smells very "Designer", but its polished and unique (as unique as a mainstream designer frag can get) I really enjoy this scent and give it a solid 7.5 outta 10! Not bad at all!

This stuff is phenomenal

I like this! Starts off like the inside of a package of fresh parsley, if you smell it close to the skin. Lingers as this smooth coolness kinda lavender-like. Oh yeah, duh, coconut. It's there, and there is a lot when you spray, but I don't mind it. Have been using it the past few weeks after buying and it's good, just as expected.

After several weeks of intermittent wear, Explorer Platinum continues to reveal unexpected depth. This is not a safe, familiar “fresh” fragrance. It doesn’t smell like anything else currently on the market. The violet leaf is the star here: green, slightly metallic, cool, and remarkably clean. It’s the most convincing, modern, and well-integrated violet leaf note I’ve encountered in a commercial release. The overall composition feels deceptively simple, yet it refuses to reveal itself fully on the first few wears. You need repeated applications before the structure settles and you understand what it’s actually doing. Once it does, the fragrance becomes quietly distinctive rather than loud. Projection is solid for the first couple of hours, then it settles into a clean, cool skin scent that lasts a respectable four to six hours on me. Ideal for spring and summer evenings, and equally at home in mild autumn weather. Even the bottle works: the cool, frosted aesthetic mirrors the sensation of the juice itself. 8/10 A refined, understated, and genuinely original take on freshness.

The opening on skin completely keeps me weary of using this fragrance. It gave off the scent of someone sprayed cologne over dirty underwear. About 5 minutes later you’re in the clear as you reach the dry down and you get the best of what this fragrance has to offer which is this herbal ozonic yet relaxing violet along with aromatic cedarwood very much reminiscent of Santal 33.

Not sure why everyone’s saying this doesn’t last, I work in a well ventilated shop moving around all day and my coworkers smelled it 6 feet away hours after i sprayed it. Definitely strong and someone said they smelled coconut however I did not get that note. I mainly got the leaves for a bit then woody after about an hour.

Personally, I love this fragrance. Ever since discovering Givenchy Red, way back when, I found that woody scents really do something magical on my skin. I can wear this year-round, consistent compliment puller, versatile, dress it up or down, and a great value for the quality. To me, this is like Givenchy Red, minus the effervescence, but add denser woods. I don’t use the word “masterpiece” lightly, but this truly qualifies.

Update: I'm still digging this, and I still think anyone who can't smell this is going nose blind cuz I can still smell it on my clothes over a week later. Having read a bunch of other reviews, my theory is that this fragrance makes a man in his 40s on up smell elegant, dignified and put together. The powdery violet/coconut scent just works AND the scent smells good to his nose - the best potpourri ever. However, Platinum will just make a younger man smell older AND it will smell unpleasant to his nose - the worst potpourri ever. The sweet spot temperature wise is in the 70s, so that could be a spring day, summer when the temperature is going down, or fall when the temperature is on the warmer side

A good herbal, office and clean scent, but unfortunately after half an hour I can't smell it at all (I sprayed it once in the crook of my elbow)

Violet, clary sage, cedarwood...? :-D no, in my case it is mildly sweet mix of ananas, vanilla, anise and coriander. Even if you generously spray yourself from head to toe you need to reapply within 2 hours...60 ml for 25 Euro is a OK, but should you consider real business and something signature-y you need to push a pedal a bit, lets say at least twice the price to sail into more interesting waters.

This fragrance is amazing , women love it . But is not for everybody is not a flanker it does smell a little bit like Santal 33 probably the opening but then it goes away fast. I would say that this smells formal like an expensive linen outfit in the summer or a nice sweater for the fall. Plenty of compliments from women .

To my nose it's rather aromatic & metalic opening + sandalwood drydown, instead of cedar. Still very good though, just bear in mind that the notes breakdown is misleading, IMHO.

This scent is growing on me. It smells like pure cedar with a coconutty twist. I do not smell the violet leaf or sage at all as individual notes, so I assume their addition is what's creating the illusion of coconut. The cedar is of good quality: deep, warm and smooth, not harsh or sharp. And that's about it. This is a linear scent that doesn't really evolve, but it's still a good fragrance. Explorer Platinum is LOUD. It fills a room and lasts over 12 hours on my skin. I use 3 sprays max.

I really like this. It's La Fenice pour homme light. Easy daytime reach for us older folk. Don't think it will be many under 30s thing. If you're not a fan of violet leaf it's not for you. That note is prominent from start to finish.

This is a long lasting fragrance. Notes presented here are misleading. Opening is synthetic- smells like banana like but after a while you can smell thosze ozonic violet leaves with woody takes. The woodiness is lingering with notes of leather shoe polish in a good way. People LOVE this fraggrance on me, saying things that I smell really nice and masculine! Weird - not a typical "fad" fragrance DNA but still gets the right compliments. I usually wear this in the office and pretty much lasts the whole day. Projection is 3-4 hours but only near me, but sillage is always there. Good buy for the price.

Maybe people are going nose blind. I wore Platinum over a week ago and can still smell it on my sweater, and I could still smell it on my skin the next day. Granted that I'm new to the fragrance game and I'm holding off on wearing Asad and Althair (one for a night out and the other for the fall or winter), but among my 40+ fragrances that I've already worn this is the first one that just stuck to my skin for hours and hours. Big surprise. I just wish it was the original Explorer scent. Hopefully when I get the Extreme version I'll get both the preferred scent and the performance

I got a 10 ml decant and tested this fragrance for a week. Personally, it’s not for me, but I can understand why someone would enjoy it and decide to buy it. Even though it’s not listed in the official notes, I get a noticeable green vibe from it probably one of the greenest scents I’ve smelled from Montblanc. It’s nothing groundbreaking or very mass-appealing, but it’s not bad either. Overall rating: 4.75/10

boring as fuck!

Revisit...second review of sorts. In the air, this is a compliment magnet. I don't know why or how, as it doesn't give the impression of being one, especially if you smell it up close, but it works...if that's what you want a fragrance to do.

Worst frag I have ever smelled, kind of vomit

Just got this for $25. Odd scent. Doesn't last long at all either. The most disappointing mont blanc I've found.

I understand why some people have a problem with this fragrance. It is decidedly a warm/hot weather fragrance, but people are expecting a citrus or water forward scent. I find this amazing for those of us who do not respond well to those notes or present that way. I want the cool, refreshing tones of sage-like woods, creosote before the monsoon, and light spices with just a touch of water. I love the option of a daily summer smell that doesn't say ocean or lemons. I dress for the southwestern US and don't want to smell like Hyannis Port. It's definitely not for everyone. But it's good for people who are wanting to blend with their surroundings that are not lemonades on sailboats. It's summer in the Southwestern US, or Marrakech, or Austria, or Paraguay, or San Marino.

This smells like burnt butter and sugar. It's got a pungent odor to it that I can't get over. To me this is not fresh at all and would feel cloying if worn in the summer or in the office. Definitely not a blind buy.
