Black Afghano is far from any sort of cannabis fragrance. I find this to be a mute and flat amber fragrance that is more linear that a flat earthers view on life.
This makes me think of a shady and mysterious guy with a black leather jacket on a cold street at night. Very nocturnal, masculine, dark, complex and serious
A fragrance that evolves. It opens with an "old man who thinks he smells good" kind of vibe 😂, a strong, bitter scent that reminds me of an older gentleman. But after about 10–15 minutes, it starts to become sweeter, revealing powdery incense and woody notes. The sweetness turns warm, ambery, and slightly vanilla-like. As it develops, it becomes much more pleasant, but personally, I didn't enjoy it that much. I'm just not a big fan of incense. It is long-lasting, though, and despite what many people mention, I personally didn't detect any cannabis note. If I had to describe the mental imagery this fragrance creates, I'd say it starts as an older man in a loose blazer, evolves into an abandoned, dust-covered church, and finally becomes a bald sorcerer with tribal tattoos, casting fire spells while burning sandalwood incense.
I totally dislike it as it was very very strong chemically smell. Not a natural incense, sorry. And way too strong but intolerant due to non-natural vibe. Nor opening Nor Dry Down
I don’t know! I sprayed it in winter it was acceptable. But I was curious today this summer to smell it again. And oh my God! It smells like someone forgot to flush the toilet in a high school 9 in the morning and you didn’t get your breakfast and your stomach is empty! Excuse me. I don’t know why all what I remember when I smell most of Nassomatos and Ortos is the scent of hospitals’ toilets and the cleaning supplies. A scent that strikes your throat suddenly. And also the feeling that you want to live the moment with the scent but something dark makes you feel uncomfortable. This the weirdest thing I noticed in all the perfumes of both brands. I’m not sure if it’s only me.
Black Afgano does not smell welcoming nor pleasant at first, but after 15 mins on skin, it opens up incredible. It's rich, addictive, pleasant, beautiful, and complex. It smells like a dad in the best way imaginable. I want it.
If you look for a some evening dark but sweet and slightly fresh you might find the one
I love this and , no doubt , you know the notes but I see this as unisex and I’d love to smell this on a wall man. I can wear this in all weathers and it has a strangely comforting smell. It does NOT smell of cannabis nor close. I’d say it’s actually fairly sweet. It is however very overpriced for what is it
Sprays on strong but loses a lot of its body rather quickly. Woody, dry, balsamic, blah blah blah you've heard it all before. Good stuff overall. I wish I could've gotten an older bottle as I hear it used to be monstrous before reformulations.
I went to school in Stockholm in the 80s, and hashish in Europe was nothing like what I'd grow up around later in Southern California. That was hashish from Afghanistan, made the old way, resins rubbed and scraped from the hands of the pickers themselves. There was a human element baked into it, sweat and dirt and skin mixed into those deep herbal resins. You never forget that smell. The California buds I encountered later, in baggies, was a different thing entirely. Green, plant-forward, nice enough, but thin by comparison. The best way I can describe the difference: the buds smell like the EDT version, and Black Afgano is the Extrait: the resin, the darkness, the hands that made it. It's a scent memory I didn't expect to ever encounter again. One practical note from a San Diego resident: I will not be wearing this crossing back from Baja. Even if I've done nothing wrong, two sprays of this at the border and I'm getting waved into secondary for sure. Some fragrances are office scents, some are date scents. This one is a stay-on-this-side-of-the-line scent. Overall, a beautiful scent, especially as it dries down. Personally, the fresh "herbal/green" accord make this wearable anytime, even in the heat/summer. Nuclear, three sprays max!
We have released our documentary about the creation of Blamage for Nasomatto here: https://thenosefilm.gumroad.com/l/blamage Witness the adventurous quest for a perfume, called Blamage, by rebel perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri aka The Nose. He wants to design this fragrance by abandoning all the common rules for making perfumes. For inspiration he travels around the world, but the farther he goes, the more he seems to disrupt not only his environment but also himself. Will Blamage turn out to become the perfect mistake?
This smells like a ritual deep in the forest with witches dancing around a fire smoking hash with oud chips smouldering while ivixor b / phase inducer by electric wizard plays. This is burning incence in the catacombs as you light your hash an absolute masterpiece everything I wanted in a fragrance has me feeling like wizard and im all for that this is how Anton levay would smell after a midnight ritual absolutely Devine
The opening immediately reminded me of walking into a headshop, but after a few hours it changed. The best way I can describe the drydown is a dark gothic shop. Heavy incense, black candles, resin, smoke and this thick shadowy sweetness hanging in the room. It smells really good and it is definitely dark... More gothic, mysterious and almost ritualistic. I respect it a lot, it just took me somewhere completely different than I expected.
Yikes! This one is pretty fierce and will offend some people for sure. Harsh for some, gorgeous to me in its own ugly way.... Its like the scent of the remains of a campfire still quietly smouldering in the moring dew of the forest. It reminds me of having free parties and camp-outs in forests with friends, sat round a campfire in the dimly lit trees smoking weed and playing music back in the 90's and early 2000s. Its not got a scent of cannabis to me personally, just regular herbs. As someone who was a weed smoker for 25 years of my life, i can categorically guarantee you theres no noticeable weed smell here. The listed note of cannabis is probably not even in it, its just to sell it to the under 25s generation. Mostly its smoky and herby...VERY smoky and woody and no sweetness. A natural scent, organic, interesting and off-key. I like this. Its deep, fascinating, evocative and unusual. whether this scent works as a perfume is another matter. its not very versatile or a daily wearable, but its worth buying just for the raw and dirty but organic feel of this scent. unique, filthy yet fun this is BLACK indeed and black is beautiful 8/10 for me
Hm, I don't really get any cannabis, I mainly get a warm, fresh, resinous amber + wood scent, and If I reeeeally look for it, I can get the raspberry and saffron, but those aren't things I would be able to detect without staring at the suggested note pyramid. I like it, but I don't love it or need it enough to get anything more than the small sample I have. It's not bad by any means, just not was I was expecting or hoping for based on other people's reviews.
All I can smell is marijuana. It turns slightly woody/sweet about an hour after the initial spray, but the cannabis smell is so powerful that it's unwearable to me. I would never wear this in public or in a professional setting. I'm sure if I did, I'd get stopped and asked if I have weed on me.
One of the best niche fragrance
I like the scent as itself but whats with the longevity/sillage? They watered this perfume so down, this is a skin scent to me.
Not for me. The weed note, that already smells like horse manure to me, is amplified by the animal note. I'm glad there are people that find this wearable, politely, I am not one of them.
I absolutely love this fragrance and it evokes so much nostalgia for me. The only reason I stopped wearing it was due to the drydown, and I understand that the whole purpose of the drydown is supposed to be animalic and musky but I don't want to have to wash it off or reapply just to keep smelling the part of it I love. I appreciate it but want to be that sweet darkness all the way through. Please recommend me a fragrance exactly like this without the drydown, much appreciated.
I love this scent! Deep, smoky, woody, sweet.
Was buying it from official site in Netherlands only. The difference from 2020, 2023 and 2025 batches is insane. The latest batches have too much ambroxan in it that ruins the beauty of the initial scent! The only version worth buying is 4 ml oil from Nasomatto site( I'm talking about 2025 batch). Now I'm looking for the alternatives, and will never buy it from official site. In EU it could be find out for much lower price(half or even cheaper). Sorry Nasomatto, its not my fault...
This smells so good, what a deep scent! It seems to be static and not change, but the scent speaks inside my brain. It's crazy! And stays on skin for many hours, God-mode 8-)
Fk u gatekeepers
Finally got Nasomatto Black Afgano. Expected beast mode longevity + projection... got exactly that. First wear, I got interrogation from the boys “bro what’s that scent??” Nah. It’s a secret. If they all wear it, it’s not special anymore hahaha
Black Afgano – Nasomatto I reached for Black Afgano because I wanted something dark and controversial. Not "an evening scent with an edge." Not a safe niche for people who say "I like strong perfumes" and then faint at incense. I wanted black. I got a black hole in a leather jacket. First contact Black Afgano does not open like perfume. It opens like a door to a room no reasonable person should enter without a flashlight, a last will, and a psychiatrist's clearance. The first hit is thick, greasy smoke. Not elegant incense from a chapel for aesthetes. Not a campfire in the woods where someone plays guitar and roasts potatoes. No. This is smoke from a black, windowless room where something heavy, resinous, forbidden, and probably illegal in seven countries has been burning. Hashish, old leather, scorched wood, bitter resin, dust on a concrete floor, and air so thick you could cut it with a cable knife. It does not smell like "dark perfume." It smells as if someone locked the night in a metal barrel, set fire to it from the inside, and said: "now it will be elegant." When the smoke settles on the walls After a while, the famous black depth emerges. Only this is not velvet-candle-jazz-and-literary-conversation depth. This is the depth of a basement where someone keeps old documents, leather straps, a sack of something you don't ask about, and a chair standing far too much in the centre of the room. There is something dirty, sticky, dark in it. Like an old club that should have been shut down long ago by the health inspector, the fire department, and an exorcist, but somehow keeps running because the owner knows people whose names are not spoken aloud. The leather is dry and dark, but not elegant like Cuoium. There is no workshop with character here, no black jacket that returned from hell and knows how to behave. This is leather after sleepless nights. Leather on a chair where people with very bad ideas have been sitting. Leather that has absorbed smoke, sweat, alcohol, dust, secrets, and the breath of people who pretended in the morning that nothing had happened. At the bottom In the base, Black Afgano grows quieter, but that does not mean safer. It simply stops shouting and begins to whisper from a dark corner. What remains is oud, smoke, bitter green, resinous tar, dry leather, and something almost sacred — only as if that sacredness had been performed in an abandoned bunker by a man who does not believe in redemption but very much enjoys the smell of incense. This is a strange kind of luxury. Not gold. Not palatial. Not hotel. The luxury of a black coat that cost too much but looks as though it was bought with a favour, not with money. The luxury of a car with tinted windows. The luxury of a room where nobody gives surnames, only slides the ashtray closer. Black Afgano smells like a man who does not need to say he has darkness behind him. Darkness makes room for him on its own. Longevity? Like a decision that cannot be undone. It sits on skin long, heavy, and stubborn. On clothes it stays like smoke from a place you left too late. On the psyche — like the memory of a night whose details you never want to tell anyone, but every now and then you press your nose to your sleeve just to check whether it really was that good. One spray and for the next few hours you do not smell like "perfume." You smell like a black room, old leather, forbidden smoke, and a conversation after which someone should have written a report. Marketing says Probably something about darkness, hashish, oud, controversy, depth, and brave souls. They should have written "For people who want to smell like a luxury bunker after a sleepless night, black smoke from forbidden herbs, old leather, oud tar, and a man who came back from a place where no photographs are taken and no questions are asked." Rating: 666/10 I am not deducting points, because Black Afgano does not enter beauty contests. It sits backstage, smoking something suspicious, and watches as the jury begins to explain itself. These are not perfumes. This is black smoke in a bottle. Elegant pathology. A luxury sin past midnight. A scent that does not say "come closer." It says: "Step forward, if you truly want to know what is behind the door."
finally got myself to repurchase this, because, i must say, it's quite fitting for me. noire in it's final stage. so, once again, picture this: 2 A.M., small town. Getting high behind an old, abandoned cathedral, the wooden structure of which has absorbed so much incense smoke, that you can still smell it right now. Through that smoke, your hallucinations begin to twist into the faces of past visitors, the voices of past choir singers, the tragedies hidden behind burned velvet curtains. They're not really there. But you are. You're still there. Always still there. And so is the pale figure that you saw the next morning when you passed by. Still there. Now, the hallucinations you had? They're not hallucinations. They're only fading memories. They're a rotting dream. An ethereal, fragile experience in torn black silk. Just like you. (TL;DR: read the last line. basically.)
This is a fragrance for a Mafia Boss. very bold, unique and long lasting.
This might be a lifestyle scent. That is to say, it creates a stark point of context with respect to every other facet of one's personal presentation, and the experience Black Afgano facilitates is markedly different under different lights. Bitter herbs and salt up top, somewhat oceanic and lasting a few hours. The dry down (many hours later) is slightly softer, somewhat powdery, and emphasises a licorice aspect. Leather and wood throughout. You will like this if you drink black coffee. It is somehow both damp and dry. You will like this if you wear leather. It is dark and significant. If you regularly smoke weed, you might not catch the hash nuances. It is not like burned herb but rather unburned resin. It may smell out of place if you don't take yourself seriously. It may smell performative if you take yourself too seriously. It is definitively complex, and I would argue one of the most dynamic scents I have come across. Truly I find it artful and a masterwork of blending. Also, my cats really like it.
Ok to be honest i write this just to be the 1000nd review of this perfume on fragrantica. It is an authoritative scent built to provoke, polarizing, beautiful, well done mr gaultieri! Having 1000 reviews is already a testament of this perfume’s special character..
