This is a beautiful realistic ocean scent. However on my skin I don't find it lasts a very long time before fading away. I'd also avoid blind buying this fragrance as I've found it quite polarising. That said, if you want a realistic marine fragrance which can be worn any season this is definitely worth checking out!
If someone were to say to you, "what does open water smell like to you?" I would offer them this. This is not a romantic or fantasy body of water, no tropical coconut, exotic flowers, or mai tai cocktails here. I can see why it is polarizing... Oud Minerale is the realistic snapshot of the cold, dramatic, sweep of vast bodies of water. Someone else here said it is a Pacific NW beach. Oceanside cliffs. I've been to San Francisco once, and yeah, I can see it. But, I'm not someone who lives near the ocean. The bodies of water I'm most familiar with are freshwater and, if you ever wanted to know what Lake Minnetonka smells like in July - this would be it. Minus the uncatalyzed marine fuel. The saltiness here feels like sweat dampened summertime skin, and the seagrass vegetation reality of lake weed chopped up by boat propeller or drug up by anchor, faintly perfumed by the surrounding pine trees baking in the sun along the shoreline. To me, it is a naturalistic impression of lake beach and I fell in love with it almost immediately. The first time I took a sniff of this, it reminded me of the interior of an expensive leather purse. The oud adds a little mystery here and comes across as a bit animalistic. My imagination sees fantasy pirates wearing damp leather and holding 18th century cutlasses, but it could just as easily be wet sandals and boat seats. It does sweeten on my skin over time, turning harder into the musk and pink pepper softness, like the beach towel you'd hidden safely in your bag to dry off with while still shivering wet. Swimming isn't for everyone when the water temperatures are barely 75 degrees. But, it is the scent of riding the back of the wind on a speedboat and a hundred fun summers in my mind - and for that it is a lovely wear. Probably better in a casual occasion than a formal one, but I think it could grab anyone's attention. The scent equivalent of the "lake hair, don't care" vibe. It's probably a strange wear for a feminine profile, but the scent of the lake is more unisex than anything in my mind. I wear it to smell like a scary mermaid - and for me that's enough.
this is what the minecraft drowned smells like
This is a great scent but I don't wear it that often. The crazy thing about it is I get bored with it. I never wear it at work because I think it's too distracting and the one day I did wear it at work everyone lost their minds over it. I wasn't fishing for compliments yet everyone was coming at me wanting to know what it was. Less is more with this fragrance. Two sprays is plenty. More than two gets annoying.
This absolutely smells like the beach. But not a Hawaiian beach, not a beach in Florida or SoCal. It smells precisely like a Pacific NW beach. The day is cloudy and overcast, the temp is 50-60 (10-15ish C). The water is grey-blue and the ocean is roiling, waves are crashing on a rocky beach strewn with boulders and driftwood. If you're now thinking "why would anyone want to go to that beach, especially with that weather, let alone want to smell like that?" then this is an easy pass for you. On the other hand, if that sounds amazing and majestic, witnessing nature untamed, you should give this a try. Living in the arid SW, the only time it really feels fitting is on those rare cloudy and rainy days that are very few and far between here. But on those days there's no better scent.
If you ever being to an Aquarium sometimes you come across a fish tank or a pond that hasn't being cleaned recently and the Algae started growing, this is what it's smell like. It's repulsive and it is genuinely smell like sea plankton. Glad i only got a travel spray and tried layering with Ombre Leather and worked really well. On it's own, a big no!
I think its my 2nd review of this. Bought full bottle at least 1.5 yrs ago and have worn it a handful of times. I gotta be in the mood for this one and cognizant of who I'm gonna be near. It's still str8 up church on a damp ocean cliff. Still strong af. I think this fragrance is what frankincense wears when it feels emo.
The opening is a big like and WOW until the wood kicks in about ten 10minutes. Way too smoky and masculine then. Def something for men only... but I wouldn't let my man wear it🫣
If Marmite was a fragrance. I’m certainly not in the hate camp. Nor the love. But as marine scents go, it holds its own space in perfumery. It’s worth the wait for the dry down. Woody, salty, ever so slightly sweet. 7/10.
Goated. I wish TF would make flankers for this. I'd buy every single one.
i found oud minerale on a cruise ship i went on before—it had this perfume shop. so, i went into it and i found their tom ford collection. i have a high expectation for tom ford fragrances because almost all of them smell delicious and last on me!! then i found oud minerale and i smelt it. it smells absolutely amazing. every night after dinner i would come back to the perfume shop to spray it on my clothes. on the way back home, without even washing the clothes, i could still smell it!! this was the day i found out that i like sea perfumes and oud? one of my top favorites!! ^_^ if anyone has a big bottle of this that they blind-bought and doesn’t like the scent, bring it to me!! i will proudly take it!!
To summarize: this is quite possibly one of THE nastiest and rank smelling fragrances I have ever smelled out of the around 500 fragrances I have smelled in my life. Definitely in the top 20 worst, no doubt. Just bad.
Beautiful, it's like if ADG Profondo had a baby with Ganymede and added a bit of oud .. there's however a weird resin note that bugs me a little .. but overal it definitely is a special experience .. Niche Quality .. Elegant .. maybe not as versatile but definitely collection worthy for an occaisons ..
Pirates of the Caribbean water
First impression: Warm yet crisp. Like a beach framed by towering conifers and rugged cliffs. The cool sea breeze is immediately apparent, intertwined with the scent of verdant, sappy trees. Later: The ozonic green notes become more pronounced, joined by a growing warmth. Like sun-warmed driftwood resting on the sand – very woody and mineralic. In the drydown, the fragrance turns even warmer and more ambery, with a subtle balsamic quality. The driftwood has spent hours baking in the sun, losing some of its salty character. It's now mostly dry, musky, and lightly sweetened. Overall: Very pleasant and effortlessly unisex. It smells like a clean pirate (I know the two are kinda mutually exclusive, but you get the idea 👀). It's simple and fresh, yet warm and slightly balmy. An excellent everyday fragrance that's broadly appealing. It may be a little too tame for a night out, but it's still undeniably attractive.
I absolutely adore this fragrance. It’s so unique and smells incredible. Perfect overcast/rainy day fragrance. Highly recommend getting your nose on this gem.
I think this is my first truly manly smell, it just smells like working in a damp rocky cave in a good way, metallic but also a nice saltiness in there, i love this and ive run my sample out just using it for work i need a full bottle!
The initial olfactory experience evoked a vivid recollection of my childhood, specifically a cherished memory from the age of ten. During summer vacations, my parents would often bring me to the beach, where I would enjoy a sandwich atop a large ocean rock. This fragrance precisely transported me to that moment, imparting both beach and rainy day ambiances. The oud component presents as woody rather than sweet, and its combination with marine notes renders it truly distinctive. The performance is robust, lasting approximately six hours before gradually transitioning to a skin scent by the eighth hour. Its sillage ensures that individuals in close proximity will detect the fragrance even after six hours. While I appreciate niche perfumes, this particular scent uniquely resonated with me, triggering a profound sense of nostalgia. It is, without reservation, a beautiful fragrance.
It was as expected. Oceanic, camphorus, potent at first. Drydown reminded me of other similar marine fragrances. In particular a more masculine take on Imaginary Authors Every Storm A Serenade I really didn't get much oud. Performed like most Tom Fords - strong at the beginning, calming after an hour, lasting in between "moderate" & "long lasting". Just what I was anticipating, not particularly my kind of fragrance.
Complex marine scent, more realistic (in a good way) than regular fantasy oceanic designers, yet still aquatic and fresh. Even better than I expected based on reviews, not polarising like Megamare
If you don't like Oud Minérale, it's not Oud Minérale - it's you
I own Megamare, and I want to say that it is a safer blind-buy than this. This definitely has that Megamare saltiness and seaweed, although I find this to be much more photorealistic, whereas Megamare feels more like a fantasy—like an eldritch nightmare emerging from the deep sea. It took me a couple of wears to truly understand the name... and it was only after accidentally double-spraying my wrist that I finally perceived the oud. It's a light oud, and it gives the sillage a wonderfully airy quality. This captures the exact aroma of sun-warmed, salted skin after a day at a luxury resort. It’s the scent of your skin after having swam in the ocean on a bright day, rinsed off, relaxed at the spa. This is what you smell like just as you're getting ready for the fancy dinner reservation at the French restaurant. Smells very classy. This is truly niche.
NOTE: HUGE VARIATION, BE VARY OF BATCH NUMBER. I suspect there are insanely high batch inconsistencies. The sample i tried was an amazing warm mineral summer-scent. The 10ml version i bought was some woody oud-heavy crap. The batch number is A65. The below review is from the amazing sample: Very very nice summer scent. Very pleasent. Perfect vacation scent. Imagine walking through a Mediterranean harbor or beach town: salty air, warm stone streets, seagulls above, and the sea nearby. Not in a tropical or fruity way, but more like a clean coastal warm city vibe with sea salt, stone streets etc. You get a very clean fragrance thats a little soapy as well. The more i think of that Mediterranean climate and smell this scent, the more in love with it I fall. It captures that climate, biome and feeling perfectly. Absolutely amazing vacation scent. I strongly dislike the 10ml version i bought, but i highly highly love the sample I first received. I need to investigate.... PLEASE message me if you know anything that could help.. The original sample scent would be one of my favorites. But for the batch inconsistency i have to put this in "Hate". What a shit-show from Tom Ford having such high differences between batches.. Original Sample: Love+ The 10ml version i bought: Dislike Overall because of misleading bull****: Hate
I tried this at the mall, I liked it and found it very interesting but my Mom and sister both HATED it. They said it smelled way too pungent and like rotten seaweed or something. Maybe the dry down is better but when I put the paper to their noses they had a visceral reaction of disgust and asked if I was joking. They are average women who enjoy the other TF scents I own like Oud Wood and Ombre Leather. This is a small sample size but I think this scent may be very polarizing.
Admittedly, the opening may feel a bit funky for those who are not used to smelling oud, especially with the sea salt mix. It definitely isn't a scent for everyone. You either love it, or hate it. And in my case, I adore it. It's extremely realistic, and it really takes you on a journey as the scent develops. At first, it smells like you're on a giant cliff, on your way to the beach. It's very earthy and you get hints of salt hitting your nose once in a while. Then after a couple of hours, you start to smell the aquatics, as if you were getting closer and closer to the ocean. And in the last moments, it transforms into a very classic blue scent. So yeah, very challenging, very complex and extremely artistic. For the price and its composition, it's definitely up there with the niche big boys. Test it before you buy it, please don't blind buy this. You need to be 110% sure.
Absolutely love this scent, but admittedly it is a little hard for me personally to find the right occasion to wear it often.
it doesn’t smells bad per say. however, i can’t get this shit off of me😭
I hate Oud but love this. Unique, smooth, very professional. 30 and up crowd. CEO energy. Marine meets earth. It can also give off, laid back unbuttoned collard shirt and shorts vibe on the coast. Dress this how you want, but wear it with intention, not just cuz the day ends in Y. The oud smells like drift wood, almost like petrified wood in the best way possible. You get the minerals in a metallic way, which makes it smell like the ocean. Scent aside this is the best blended summer fragrance I’ve ever smelled. Santana- So smooth ft. Rob Thomas for sure.
this is one of the only aquatic scents that i actually love bcz it doesnt have that fishy smelling undertone thats in aquatic scents, the oud really elevates this to a luxurious smelling perfume especially that its a light oud , i love everything about it, long lasting for summer 10/10
great longevity and sillage?ok then all discounters have water down versions PERIOD!
