It's sweet without being too cloying. Actually had me gagged when I tried this on, it was so good! I wasn't expecting to like it based on the name alone, but it was surprisingly nice. I love the mixture of pink pepper, coffee, and cloves. Though, despite the amount of notes, I'd say this scent doesn't have too much depth. It's more of a rounded, "all at once" fragrance to me. Like, I didn't notice a difference in the initial spray and drydown.

The scent of pink pepper, patchouli, cypress, and clove is very intense. First the pink pepper, then the cypress, then the clove, and finally the patchouli are prominent. Because of the patchouli, it's not something I would choose very often. The scent of ebony gives it that woody intensity, like returning from a pine forest when ı was little. It would be better without the patchouli. Towards the end, the ebony scent intensifies and the patchouli scent diminishes.

I bought this perfume as soon as I smelt it in the shop. I’d never smelt anything like it before and I honestly hadn’t had myself down as a spicy woody perfume person. In fact, I’d heard this one had coffee notes and vowed to steer clear because I really hate the smell of coffee. This not only smells divine but lasts weeks on my clothes. I sprayed some on an evening gown I wore and can still get the occasional waft of it when I open my wardrobe. It’s both very pink and very spicy, and the woody pink pepper combination gives it a scent that seems somehow both bold and complexly subtle. I get a lot of bright pink pepper in the opening, which really appeals to me, and then it is followed by something woody and comforting, like warm winter cloves and creamy spices. It’s definitely a wintery dark scent, but I’ve also worn it in the summer evening on after-dinner walks along the Mediterranean coast. It feels very luxurious and sultry in a playfully bright and feminine way. But it’s also essentially unisex, so that’s mainly just how it makes me feel as a woman. Very surprised by this as I am usually only a florals and citrus person, but I love it and would buy it again. I got the regular version and I’d like to try the elixir, but I’m a bit intimidated by the thought because the regular is already so powerful. It only really needs a couple of sprays.

I love the scent and it does smell more expensive than it is, bought mine in a frag group for 20 bucks. But, it totally reminds me of the red christmas candles I grew up with in the 80s. This will for sure be in my December rotation, glad I got it!

Best fragrance from Zara, this is an ultra niche scent

At first I was like wow it smells like my cat’s litter box, however I still decided to try it on my hand because of all the hype and after some time it developed into something so complex and captivating, couldn’t stop smelling my hand and longevity is amazing

This has got to be the best fragrance ever made by Zara. So deep and yet so fresh.. sharp, woody and spicy in the most intriguing way possible! The combination of pink pepper, cypress and grapefruit in the opening is just divine… I also get a lot of the clove and something that makes it sweeter once it dries down. Perfectly unissex but SO charming on a woman. 1000/10!

I've got two bottles of the original formulation, it's absolutely heavenly. It's dark and seductive dry woods with cosy spiciness. It's sweet and I find it very sexy and sensual. The spiciness in this is not the christmassy, cinnamon, clove and ginger spiciness that evokes the colour of deep oxblood in my mind, but a bright pink pepperiness and almost fruitiness that evokes imagery of a blackberry colour. It does sort of remind me of Pomegranate Noir but again, it's not that hot red spiciness, but a punchy pink pepperiness on a dark and seductive woody base. I got a brush on version and then sought out the old formulation because I loved it so much. It's perfectly unisex. Longevity is great, 8 hours + and strong sillage. I love this in all seasons, but I adore cosy woody scents. It's probably better suited to autumn and winter.

One of the best scents ever, a true masterpiece!

I find this way too sweet. Almost artificial sweetener like. But it is a very interesting and non-generic scent, I can see how a lot of people would enjoy this. I think it would be great for the winter, or even christmas season. Totally unisex, maybe slightly masculine leaning.

I first discovered this scent on my mum who had recently purchased this from Zara. She was constantly getting compliments in public so I had to get one too. On first spray, it is very strong almost like a peppery citrusy attack of the nostril. Once it dries down, you come out with a spicy, woody, grapefruit scent that lasts all day and projects like crazy. I usually am a gourmand girl so this is definitely not within my taste at all- and to me it is definitely more of a masculine scent. However, I find myself reaching for this more often than I expected when I don't fancy spelling edible.

The opening is a bit polarizing but on skin this dries down into the loveliest fruity woody goodness. Wouldn’t wear this where I’m going to be sitting next to lots of people, as I could see many consider the smell offensive. Definitely not a safe blind buy.

Oh how I loved the OG perfume!! And then Zara, messed it up with coffee !? And grapefruit etc??? The OG has 3 notes and was a warm spicy but slightly sweet wood,it was so perfect!! I only love two fragrances by Zara: OG ebony wood and golden decade is THE best YSL intense! Now here’s where I’m sooo lost!! They came out with like 3 diff versions post the OG (all with the new notes that had nothing to do with the OG) do any of them smell close to OG? 🤷♀️ I feel like 2022? Was last year of OG? Lmk

Smells phenomenal on my skin! Smells like lavashak on me and isn’t offensive at all.

Initial first wearing: Ebony Wood Elixir - picked this up last week and WOW, just WOW. I can't compare it to other Zara fragrances as this is my first but initial impressions are strong, unisex, uncommon, lovely opening with beautiful dry down. This is fast becoming my most complimented fragrance, with compliments from strangers each time I wear it. I become nose-blind to this fairly quickly but it still lingers many hours after I've stopped detecting it. Was told today by a barista that this reminds her of Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone - which lead to a short but lovely conversation around fragrances and perfumers.

i bought the og version of ebony wood back in 9th or 10th grade, and wore it almost everyday for a few months straight. i initially loved this scent, it was sweet and woody, but i'm not sure if it changed over time, or my taste got different, but all i get from it now is overpowering muskiness. smells like one of those generic men's colognes that's called like ultra muscle gold or something. the lasting power is insane, i'll give it that, up to 12 hours on my skin, and one spray is more than enough.

Who was the genius that changed the notes for ebony wood?? Yes Zara changed the notes they had like two plus other versions, but the version in 2019? Was NOT the notes listed above!??👆

Nó random lắm :))) Eng: It smells like cajeput oil, but without the usual cooling sensation of typical cajeput massage oil. It's more accurately a blend of cajeput oil with citrus and sweet patchouli notes at the end. The scent is quite funny, but unique and interesting. In tropical climates, I don't really recommend wearing this when the temperature is above 22 degrees Celsius. It's great for collecting, but for daily use, you really need to think carefully. You should try a few pumps at the store first; otherwise, you won't know whether you'll like it or be disappointed. It's very random :)))

the elixir version of this is stronger than my arabians tonka

This really stands out in the Zara fragrance bubble. Mostly because of its strength and longevity. But also because it's fairly unique, though I do sense the Jo Malone signature in it. Ebony Wood opens with a very juicy citrus accord. That unfortunately fades pretty quickly. After that is 10+ hours of a linear hinoki, pink pepper, and vetiver scent. If pink pepper works for you, this is a pretty amazing fragrance. To my nose, most pink pepper in fragrance comes off a bit harsh. It's pretty much the same in this case but it blends well with the cypress note. If I were to own a bottle of this, I think it would be a mostly outdoor scent in the Spring and Fall with maybe just a couple sprays cuz you can really smell this stuff on you.

Given how other zara perfume extrait versions have their own pages on fragrantica, im surprised this one doesn't, because the Ebony Wood Extrait truly is the bomb. So sorry babes, but my review here will be for the extrait version, not the og. I know only so much that I've smelled the og back in the day when it has just came out, but I wasn't convinced to buy it. Few years went by and I decided that maybe I should give into the hype a bit, so i found myself a nearly brand new discounted bottle on vinted. In my opinion the initial smell was quite pretty, but the dry down had the same annoying salty/ iodine note as BR540 (the same reason I cant stand that fragrance). So I put it away and forgot about it. A better half of a year has passed and I decided it was time to declutter some of my fragrances, and this one hot back on my radar. Gave it another try, and would you guess it? I loved it! Who knew, lol. Maybe it was maceration or something like that, but I thought this could only happen with arabic perfumes (though zara pumps out new stuff at a very similar pace, so its very likely imo that their creations could need to do some maturing too). The fragrance has definitely deepened, and while it has some sweetness to it, the coffee/ black tea (ik its not in the notes, but to me it smells a bit like that) is very present, yet without the sugary vanillic quality that some coffee or tea scents have. It's this nice, dark slightly bitter note, with the perfect amount of spiciness, that doesn't dominate the whole composition ("soft spicy" fits so well here). All in all, I have no idea if I truly did miss out by not having the OG, but the current version is very much so enjoyable in my eyes (or nose idk)

This fragrance is probably one of the best affordable scents I've ever tried. It smells so much more expensive than it is and it projects and lasts! It's a compliment getter and often people can't believe it's Zara perfume. I wouldn't either. I find the opening being pretty strong on a grapefruit and cypress note but it has an underlying sweetness which makes it so delicate and delightful. It's warm and bright but subtle and incredibly sophisticated. I don't really get a lot of coffee (and I was really surprised to see this note). To me this smells more like a sweet citrusy black tea with a balanced woodiness from patchouli and vetiver in the base that are not that detectable to the nose but they definitely pull the foundation together adding more complexity to the scent. I have a newer bottle (bought 1-2 years ago), so not sure about an older formula, but I certainly think I'd repurchase this again!

currently testing but so far it seems like more complex version of chanel bleu by chanel type of scent. very elegant, much more masc to me personally. pink pepper, which is definitely the most prominent note, gives it a spicy kick but overall scent stays pretty light and universal. might buy for everyday use, as billie eillish nr 2's lover

Ebony Wood is a really interesting fragrance and honestly feels so modern. I got an unexpected amount of compliments with this one, and it’s genuinely really good. The grapefruit in here smells more like passion fruit or mango to me — something more exotic than how grapefruit is usually done, but still strikingly fresh. That freshness is mellowed down by the moody ebony wood note, which makes the whole scent feel unique. It’s perfectly unisex and would smell great on anyone. Overall, it smells significantly more expensive than it actually is.

Анонім★★★★★

My all-time favorite fragrance. Complex, unisex, but accessible enough to wear daily. Every time I wear this I get stopped and asked about it. Smells like dry logs and black tea. The coolest, most effortlessly intriguing scent I know.

opening of the elixir is insane

This is pleasant, although I get strong resemblance of white Haribo bear

this may be a sleeper legend in my collection, the perfect fall scent that you can grab and put it on your skin and just know you smell good. sleeper longevity, lasts 8+ hours on my skin easily, along with smelling like a wildly expensive fragrance for not a wildly expensive price. to be fair, i have the old bottle which i am reading is an original formulation, so take my review with a grain of salt if your purchasing the new, cute, magnetic cap bottles (yes im jealous). The pink pepper along with the vetiver and patchouli really shine in this fragrance. i personally wear this scent with my hoodies when im dressed like a bum, yet i can absolutely see this fragrance dressed up. those who know, know. thank you jo malone for a classic banger, hopefully zara fragrances never touch tiktok, as these have all been cheap beasts for me.

At first spray I literally gasped it was that gorgeous. Very woody, smelled quite dark and organic (?), very complex. Not something I've smelled before, especially from Zara so it was unexpected. However, through the day, it somehow became so sickening, it lingered at the back of my nose, I scrubbed it off my wrists and had to change clothes because I kept getting whiffs of it through the day. Not sure how the re-formulation affected it as I've been very reluctant to try it, but I'd just say, better try before you buy !

I’m not sure if the bottle I own is the original or the reformulation… but oh my god, I’m obsessed. It’s a very unique scent. To me it just smells like… a magical forest of mysterious, black trees. It’s sweet but not overly feminine at all, it is unisex. When i first smelled it I was confused, wasn’t sure if I liked it, but couldn’t stop smelling-addictive. Also it lasted all day on me, 12+ hours and through work, and got endless compliments. I could also continue to smell it on me all day which rarely happens, I tend to go nose blind. I just ordered another bottle to see what I think about the reformulation?
