initially VERY strong incense smell but it burns out into something very leathery with a hint of soil. i honestly get next to none of the fruity notes described (unfortunately ‘ ^ ‘) but i still liked it. strange but not necessarily unpleasant
Very dynamic opening. Overripe (rotten?) fruit. Dirt. Durian. Actual garbage? Mellows out into something almost wearable but still occasionally smells like a photorealistic compost pile. Certainly an achievement but we live in a society…
kinda smells like if you had a compost bin that was being used as a litter box by a 15 year old cat and hasn’t been cleaned for the past 5 months
don't piss on the good grass !!
Magical, I can smell fruity and earthy notes, but it also reminds me of olm or the effect... of being in a cave but this time the cave isn't wet and metallic but instead it's dirty and fruity sweet but the dry down is woody musk
I bought (a sample of) this mostly out of morbid curiosity, because the descriptions made me think it would be terrible. But I don't think I'm getting what other people get from this (which maybe is to my benefit) - on me it's not fruity or bodily at all, just kind of, like, a slightly musky incense. Maybe a bit leathery. It brought to mind a Catholic chapel that's been abandoned for a while but still has incense smell in the walls and old Bibles in the pews. Nothing too controversial - I've definitely smelled mainstream fragrances for men that smell similar. But I must be missing something, because my partner was repelled.
This scent heavily relies on your skin chemistry. 2 of my friends tried it and it smells bad. But on my skin it works verry well on my skin. Ripe fruits with a woody undertones. Performance is ok, maby like 5-6 hours. I feel like the scent pulses, i get sudden wiffs of ripe fruits, over time at can become nausiating for the wearer. Not a everyday scent, but if it works with your skin its worth having to stand out
I made the mistake of wearing this to class on my wrist. As an avid caver and bat biologist, I thought I would give it a try. I smell the realistic mineral-ness of the cave which is enjoyable, but the fruit note is so disgusting anytime I got a whiff I thought I was going to gag. Does this smell as it is intended? Yes. Would I ever put this on my body again? No.
dennis cooper boy asshole scent
Wanted to like this so badly, and I've tried many times. Like, genuinely. I adore the idea and concept of Bat. I thought it would be dark, damp, fruity, cave-like, maybe a little animalic in a cool way. Like okay, tropical fruit, soil, minerals, night air, gothic bat cave fantasy? That sounds interesting. That sounds like something I could dig. Unfortunately… no. This is the one Zoologist I’ve tried so far that was a real no for me. Not because it’s boring. It is definitely not boring. It paints a picture very clearly. The issue is that I very much do not want to be inside that picture. To me, this smells like being outside after a rainy day in the outdoorsy part of a zoo. There are wet bales of hay nearby, damp dirt everywhere, warmed organic matter, soaked stone pathways, and a compost full of soil and fruit peels. Mostly banana peels and fermented fig; overripe fruit. It’s not fresh tropical fruit to me. It’s fruit that has been sitting, breaking down, getting warm and damp. And then there is this animalic part. Not in a sexy vintage musk way. Feral musk; like smelling the floor of a recently rained on enclosure, the humidity amplifying the ammonia in the air. The myrrh adds a hot, skin clinging density to this animalic accord. Kind of also like standing next to a guy who has a bunch of cats, yet he doesn’t clean his house enough, so that faint pissy smell lingers on him. I hate to say it, but that is exactly where my brain goes. It’s a rainy outdoor zoo enclosure, compost, hay, dirt, and ammonia. I can see the artistic vision. I really can. It does what it’s trying to do. It smells alive, humid, earthy, animalic, wild, fruity, and cave-like. But for me, it crosses the line from atmospheric into genuinely unpleasant to my nose. The funny thing is, I don’t think this is badly made at all, I can totally see how this is loved by some. I don't find this repulsive by any means, it's fascinating, frankly. I've sprayed this a multitude of times over the years just to.. take it in? The sillage is a beast to say the least as well, and it lasts forever. I actually think it’s very effective. Too effective. It smells like an environment, true to a bat, which... granted, is precisely what they are trying to evoke. I like weird fragrances.. but this is not the kind of weird I enjoy, sadly. Bat is organic decay. Compost. Wild animal enclosure. Wet earth and minerals. Fruit breaking down. Biology happening a little too close to me.
One of my all time favorite aromas! To me it smells like an adventure. It very much has a damp smell to it, like a rain forest and I enjoy that aspect of it. And then as you go deeper into that rain forest you start to get the animal smells and the more subtle nods. It speaks to my personality and interests very well; it is a very unique perfume that adds a little kick to my goth aesthetic. Lasts a very long time too!
This starts off smelling like wet soil and fruit in the best way possible. It settles to be slightly medicinal with a bit of incense smell. Strangely pleasant!
This is what I would smell like if I was a vampire that lived in an old abandoned mansion that hasn't been cleaned in over 100 years, and the inside was very dated, there are many areas of the roof that allow rain in, making it damp and sorta stale. The kitchen where I usually eat my unwilling sacrifices is filled with very rotten bananas, which one of my edible flings said its "oddly nice" before I sucked the soul out of him. He wasn't wrong honestly, so I decided to spread more fruit all over the place to make this area a bit nicer for the lives I'm about to devour. 6/10, I think I would love this on a very gothic, masculine leaning person who cries when they see the color red because its "just so juicy!! 😋"
Smells like eating overripe banana&exotic fruits in an abandoned damp castle Very damp Beautiful
Zoologist #2 – Bat I was very fortunate when i managed to acquire samples for arguably the four most notable and notorious creations from the house of Zoologist. Those being Moth, which i’ve reviewed, Bat, Bee and T-Rex. Moth was an evocative but admitedly also bold and well defined perfume. It was the first one i wanted to experience precisely because of its alleged evocative nature and because in my mind it seemed like the most “tame” from the bunch. After Moth i thought “Time to take out the big guns and move into hostile territory” with three demons from Zoologist. Spraying Bat for the first time was dissapointing in a way. I asked myself: “Is this it? Is this what got people scared?”. As a disclaimer, im not a squeemish person in general yet im far from a hardy guy. In life i avoid showing physical sensibility but emotionally im a trainwreck hah. With that said, i also avoid displaying “fake toughness” by denying the obviously negative things and that goes for perfumes aswell. Im not pooping my pants when something smells niche yet i won’t deny when something is trully challenging. Smelling Bat is a similar experience to what i had with Sadonaso and Cuoium. Different? Yes. Niche? Absolutely. Challenging? Not as much as advertised. Infact, with Bat i quiet like what i smell and i wish it was a bit more upfront actually. Bat has a very interesting and unique scentprofile to my nose. Moth had aspects that felt harder to decypher but it also had an anchor i could hold onto in the form of the amber and oud. With Bat im a bit in the dark (pun intended). I might be too hasty in my judgement after only smelling two creations but it seems to me that Zoologist employs clever manipulation of notes and accords that feel “in-tune” or fitting to the animal its inspired by, but also feel alien and peculiar in terms of traditional perfumery. I do pick up on a herbal accord that has a slight acidic facet to it. The perfume being called Bat and the acidic aspect of the scent obviously makes me think of guano, which is basically bat feces. Bat feces??? That sounds awful! Eh, probably the real life “matter” is awful but the perfume isn’t by any means, on the contrary, its pleasant to my nose. I suspected there’s vetiver and other green notes that help achieve the end result but the dominant accord to my nose turned out to be the soil tincture. Interestingly, the soil tincture doesn’t make it earthy to me but instead its damp and muffled and thats why i said i wish it was overall more upfront because i love it. The impression of this damp soil accord has a strange familiarity. Its as if i encountered it before somewhere, maybe in a perfume or maybe somewhere else. I’ve smelt Figment Man and it might have been there but im not sure. I admit im not entirely sold on the fruit notes altho i get some of the fig's greenness, just not the fruityness here eighter. I see two categories of people when im looking at the reviews. Some detect it as pissy, animalic and challenging and others find it smelling like a relatively basic masculine cologne. I seem to lean towards the second group but the dominant soil accord sets it appart from classic masculine perfumes. All things considered, so far im impressed with the clever use of notes i’ve encountered both in Moth and in Bat because they feel unique, artistic but not offputting and thats a hard combination to pull off.
Smells like someone lit an incense stick to try and cover up the smell of rotting fruit in a compost bin, but in a good way kinda.
If you smell it and think of a damp cave or a basement it smells like a cave or a basement, but if you smell it and think of cat piss it is DEFINITELY cat piss. As a side note real bat caves stink badly, maybe actually a bit similar to this, but more poopy and fruity and the perfume smells more like piss.
I love a bit of Zoologist. They do some sterling work. But this one falls flat on it's cute little face. How disappointed I was, as it promised me many tropical wonders. I was very curious how they would all work together. Upon first application, Bat doesn't fuck about. It gets straight on with it's promised tropical assault. But then, faster than a racehorse on cocaine, it quickly goes downhill, until it hits the forest floor with a thud and a leafy skid. On the dry down, it devolves into a ghastly smell of damp clothing. The clothing has had a wash in the washing machine, but then it has been left to "dry" in a pile in the garden. No matter what angle I come at it from, I can't shake this scent of damp washing in a garden. There are some earthy notes hidden in it, but they merely contribute to it's manky, insipid scent. Such a let down. I had wanted to smell it for a very long time, and when I finally did, it crushed my black heart with it's unfathomable poor performance. I'm sure others will disagree, but, as I have said on many occasions, that is the beauty of art; it is subjective. I don't absolutely hate it, but I don't like it either. D+ Zoologist, please report to me directly. 4/10. Very disappointing. I'll stick to T-Rex.
I have a bottle of the ORIGINAL 2015 formula, if interested PM me.
This was cool and fun but on my skin it turned into pee. Which I mean, is fair, bats are usually covered in piss, but it was a Lot. My cat liked it on me. She's nasty.
I’ve tried almost all of the Zoologist scents (except for some of the recently released ones) and to be fair, Ellen’s Bat is still the best. As for who can wear it, I’d recommend starting with the more pleasant Zoologist scents like Seahorse or Penguin, and then gradually working your way up. I gave Bat to some of my friends (who have experience with both popular and niche perfumes), and they absolutely couldn’t stand the smell
If this was a romantic dracula-esque gothic bat cave I would have loved it but unfortunately it truly is fruit bat in a dark cave who smells like he has p*ssed all over himself (as they do). I loved the dark cave notes but would never buy it due to the rotted fruit and pissy notes.
for me it smelled like a pretty basic strong male colonge nothing fruity in here, smells pretty basic maybe it’s just not for me
This lasted 10 seconds on my skin wtf
Surprisingly sweet and even quite good.
If someone has the original 2015 formulation message me, I will buy it for a lot
i think people are taking their reviews wayyy too far or maybe this is just how bat lays on my skin but omg this smells NOTHING like fecal matter or rotting fruit??? on the first initial spray/sniff on skin it smelled heavily of men's cologne and something almost dirty and animalic but still wearable and freaky and it's not bad in fact i really like it, and it smells so much better when it dries down you definitely get a lot more of the fruity notes it's also a little peppery/spicy. this is also a more masculine leaning scent but overall still unisex. i think this is a very sexy, weird fragrance and it gets teww much hate.
Bat by Zoologist Perfumes – 10/10 My favorite fruit perfume and definitely my favorite from Zoologist. It smells like dried fruits or the fruity stuff you’d pack in a hookah. The soil note adds this earthy, aged twist that actually makes it even better. Really unique and beautifully done.
Smells like a dirty outhouse, fecal and pissy. 1/5
bat delivers you exactly what is promised: it smells like (rotting) fruit in a moist cave it's one of the most realistic 'damp soil' fragrances i've encountered so far, and i think that the fruity notes make it more palatable to the nose. it's a very unique smell, i really can't tell whether i like it or hate it. i feel like i can smell different fruits with every sniff i think it's wearable once it dries down, but i don't see myself wanting to smell like this in most situations. great if you're going for an unsettling vibe though! it's definitely going to be my choice for a halloween fragrance
