1872 For Men

I have had this fragrance for over a year. It's very good and special. It's not a club kid scent. It doesn't trend by influencers on Tiktok or Instagram, and I'm completely fine with that. Many people in the comments state that it's either an older or a rich man's scent. I am the former but not the latter. What I can say is that it's wonderful, a confidence booster, for sure. It's the epidemy of class, perfect for formal occasions or dates with your significant other, and will not choke your partner out when in intimate situations. ;)

Ever have to pick up old, dried out crab apples from your backyard? This fragrance reminds me of that smell - which is funny considering Clive Christian has a fragrance called "Crab Apple Blossom." I really love this scent. It's unique and well-rounded. I can see where "old money" and "gentleman" comparisons are coming from, but don't let that trick you into thinking this fragrance is old-school. A bit more formal than the usual summer fragrance? Yes. But dated? No.

the only thing i can think about while testing this fragrance is an insanely attractive man in his mid 40s with a grey slick back and a slight stubble wearing a linen shirt. the petitgrain in this is to die for i've never smelt one done this beautifully. this one gives me butterflies i cant even lie.

Really high quality unique summertime scent. A couple sprays goes a long way with this one. Nice citrus opening, woody and complex but pleasant. There is quite a bit going on here but after a few wears you really start to get used to it and it just becomes super unique and beautiful. One of those scents that you need to give yourself some time with to really explore it and admire it. Not cheap at all so I only have a 10ml bottle of it, but a little goes a long way with this one so I can see this bottle lasting me a good bit of time. Overall a cool and different summer fragrance. Definitely something that will make you stand out apart from the usual scents you tend to smell, yet still comforting. Smells like something a rich older dude would wear, I am picturing a rich dude on a golf course in the mountains in spring/ summer. I am not old nor am I rich but I like the idea of breaking stereotypes and finding scents that work with my skin and wearing them with confidence, regardless of what the general consensus might be. If you like fresh, green, herbaceous scents you would like this.

OK so this one instantly made me think of Creeds Bois Du Portugal. However it is a bit different in that its a bit more Citrusy, Herbal and bright. It is more complex and less harsh. Very masculine but not as grandpa smelling as BdP which dries down very mothball like to me, this doesnt. Suprised how smooth and well blended this is given the insane amount of ingredients. I quite like it but only at discounted prices. I would probably only wear this outdoors as it gives me a nature/adventure vibe. Not quite full bottle worthy for me. I much prefer town and country as a do it all CC scent. 8/10

Got myself a decant of this to try. The batch code on it is 363J. Smell wise, when I first sprayed it, I got the petitgrain and peach with a little musky scent. After abit, the citruses came out at full force. What I can pick out the most is the lime but there is definitely some others in the mix. There are some florals in here too that help round off the scent and make it more full instead of just being full on citrus. It’s super green, bright and sharp. No sweetness in here but it does have a little spice. Performance wise, projection is moderate to light and longevity for me is mid to long lasting. Based on the scent profile, I would say it leans masculine. Overall, it’s definitely my kind of scent profile. It smells pretty classy and has that if you know, you know vibe to it. Even the performance fits the classy undercover vibe. Due to the price tho, it’s definitely a sample first. As there is no sweetness in here, it won’t be something that’s mass pleasing. If you like sharp, bright and green scents, then check this out for sure.

Right from the beginning you get a blast of fresh, juicy citrus scents with some spices giving some warmth through all the coolness. Juicy sweet, woody, slightly resinous and undeniably complex. This one is excellent, something I really love smelling. 9/10

This perfume takes me back to my mountain forest hikes right after the rain. Its scent profile is lovely, but I’m having trouble finding the perfect occasion to wear it, it’s a bit challenging to pull off. On my skin, it lasts about 4 hours. Considering the price, I don’t think it’s worth buying, at least not for me.

It has 219 ingredients so it’s difficult to discern individual notes, but you can distinguish the basics and it has a bit of everything, citrus, green, woody, floral, fruity, amber, a little sweet, a little bitter… It has it all, yet it’s not a soupy mess, it feels quite coherent and intentional and the result is that it smells amazing. It is gentlemanly, yet easygoing. Has a timeless quality that would’ve been great 30 years ago and still great 30 years from now. Knowing Geza Schoen, this is surely packed with synthetics, but also nothing actually smells synthetic, no screechy materials, everything feels natural and well rounded. As far as performance, it’s not one that will fill a room, but it does last a longtime on the skin as it dries down to a clean musky, woody amber.

A high quality ultra-dry, grassy, and herbaceous scent. I enjoyed this. If you are not into sweet fragrances, you will probably like 1872.

Aromatic fresh with some floral. Very fresh. I'd say for a guy who has a gentlemanly presence or older man with some income. Performance is already whimpering at not even 3 hours in. Most disappointing CC so far- especially for the profile and price. I feel like Timeless might be the same story for me here. I may conclude this house with Rock Rose before pausing on sampling more from this house

Clive Christian’s 1872 Men feels like a fragrance that represents the refined citrus style of the early 2000s. After a long break, I happened to come across the Clive Christian brand again, and I wanted to start with 1872 Men, which was my very first fragrance from the house. It was also one of my first fragrances in the citrus category. In the opening, the petitgrain and lime notes are quite dominant and immediately noticeable. This bright and lively introduction gives the fragrance a very fresh and energetic character. It is truly a gentleman’s fragrance that sometimes makes you feel the need to refresh it during the day. It has a very versatile profile and can easily be worn by anyone from 7 to 70. Whether you are going to school, work, or simply out during the day, it fits comfortably into many occasions. As it dries down, the fragrance gradually leans toward cedarwood. This shift balances the fresh citrus opening with a more elegant and masculine woody base. 10/7.2

This is gorgeous but, it does smell like Royal Water mixed with BdP. This seems to last longer than Royal Water and definitely gives off old Money vibes. Bought a 50ml even though I have two bottles of both of the above. Don’t regret it at all.

I like this. It reminds me of the sweet basil in my mom's herb garden, but I don not see basil in the notes. Perfect mature and masculine scent for the office that won't offend the people around you. It did not last on my skin. I wore 4 sprays under my clothes: Chest, shoulders, back of neck. I don't think it was strong enough to project through a t-shirt, polo and quarter zip for any amount of time. I put my nose in my shirt several times throughout the day. After 2 hours I struggled to detect it, but it was not there. after 8 hours of work, I could smell nothing, maybe because of cold weather. I think it is an elegant but weak scent, which suits me perfectly. I cant wait to try it in warm weather.

Reminds me a lot of boucheron pour homme EDT, but with the citrus tuned up and the lavender toned down. It's like a niche version of that. Also has some similarity with lalique pour homme (lion) but without the powder dry down. Overall solid (but a bit overpriced) fougere.

Have gone through a few of the Clive Christian fragrances and generally don't find them worth the huge amount of cash required to buy in. Got a couple of the 10ml travel sets and by far the standout is 1872. This zings off the skin and has all the green goodness that I have been looking for. On paper it gave me polo vibes but a couple of days wearing on skin and my goodness... when this 10ml goes I will get a full size from discounter. It is the evolution of the wearing that got me, throughout the life of the wearing it changes from bright and zingy to the woody base and lavender while retaining bursts of all the mid notes. Classic and deep enough to set it well apart from pretenders.

In terms of everyday scents that's just safe and clean, this might be the best you can buy. It's green-citrusy with herbal touches. But it smells HIGHLY natural and clean which is why i say it could be the only one you ever need. Try this before you go out there and purchase endless bottles to find your taste in clean profiles.

From the moment you apply it, it is easy to see that the dominant aroma of Clive Christian 1872 is citrus green, with the most prominent citrus in this composition being petitgrain, which is nothing more than essential oil from the lemon leaf. This oil is special because, while most citrus is extracted from the peel of oranges or lemons, petitgrain is extracted not only from the peel of the bitter orange tree, but also from the young branches and leaves. Therefore, in addition to the characteristic citrus nuances, there is a slight bitterness, clean and pleasant, green and a woody touch. The quality of the ingredients used in these notes and chords really impress! It also has a sweet grapefruit mixed with the fresh sweetness of a ripe pineapple, which sometimes even reminds me of Creed Aventus. Along with that, there's a fresh, green herbaceous note, perhaps of rosemary with a slightly dried lavender. That's when you sniff it carefully and try to figure out what's in it, try to dissect it. However, once it spreads, it is no longer complicated; on the contrary, it creates a slightly floral citrus vibe with a hint of soft wood. Which combined with spices such as pepper and nutmeg, create the perfect transition to complex drying. The naturalness of the raw materials used in this fragrance are exceptional! At the base come tree notes with a fresh cedar and sandalwood also with an earthy patchouli blending with a white floral accord with emphasis on freesia and jasmine with a herbal touch of sage balancing the richer surface notes, and situating the fragrance in the fertile English landscape and transporting those who wear it to the heart of a forest. A very exquisite amber, bridging the initial fruity sweetness and joining with a delicate musky incense-incense resinous touch adds even more sophistication to this luxurious fragrance. And one of the things that pleased me most about Clive Christian 1872 Men is its evolution. Usually in citrus fragrances, these notes usually fade quickly after 1 to 2 hours, leaving mostly wood or musk. In 1872 it is different; It maintains a very stable citrus structure. After about another 2 hours, if you smell it again, the citrus will still be there. The most noticeable difference from the opening is perhaps the wood becoming more prominent. And the aroma practically doesn't change anymore; it just stays that citrusy, green, woody, deliciously fresh. And it still has a great performance for this category of fragrances.

This is one of the most incredible fragrances I've ever owned. The opening is incredible and transitions at least twice before the opening seems to give a guest appearance again. I've heard people call fragrances a journey, but now i finally get it with this. I love this fragrance.

I truly appreciate this aromatic, old-fashioned gentleman, vibe fragrance. Definitely not for the young people. I don’t understand the hype on this one though. To me, it’s very typical. I prefer Bois de Portugal and DANIEL by Napoleon to this

gen z please stay away from clive christian scents until you are in your 30s ,has a decent job and financially stable. this scent isnt only for old people, but for aspirational bussiness men who wants a fragrance for the office that lasts and has moderate proyection. i dont find this scent profile old fashioned. for me its smells like a blend of xerjoff torino21 with rennaseince , then the drydown has the sabe vibe as byredo bal d afrique... citrus, green, floral multifaceted masculine fougeree

It’s a beautifully fresh fragrance, though it leans a bit old fashioned compared to current trends. It gives me hints of Xerjoff Torino21, Gucci 1921, and even calls to mind some of those crisp, minty, slightly soapy scents. The performance isn’t weak, but it’s not the powerhouse you might expect from a luxury release. Overspraying and applying on freshly moisturized skin definitely helps. It’s a blind buy safe choice for lovers of refined citrus woody scents, but if you’re chasing nuclear projection or all day longevity, this won’t quite hit that mark. UPDATE 13/05/2026: After further wear, I noticed a clearer bubblegum-like sweetness sitting beneath the fresh, minty, soapy character. It is not the loud synthetic sweetness of modern bubblegum fragrances, but something smoother, aromatic, and slightly chewy, almost like a refined herbal gum effect. This added sweetness gives 1872 more charm and warmth than I initially noticed, softening its classic gentlemanly freshness without making it juvenile. Performance also seems to have improved after the bottle had time to settle, with better body, smoother diffusion, and longer wear on skin.

Elegant, very mature and masculine, green, but by no means expensive-smelling. I don't get the hype around this overpriced fragrance. There are loads of designer frags out there that smell similar, for a fraction of the cost. I'd research and compare other options before buying.

It’s just light earthy green fragrance that last for less than two hours. Not worth the price for sure

Starting to think Clive Christian should stick to making fresh fragrances. 1872 Masculine is yet another excellent citrus-aromatic-woody fragrance from this house. The initial whiff of bright and juicy citruses rounded out with spices like nutmeg immediately made me think of Aventus Absolu. Not that they're similar at all, but the way this scent is "constructed" so to speak reminded me of the Creed. As the scent dries down it becomes more aromatic, but the citruses are still pretty present. It's an extremely likeable and easy to wear fragrance, and it's also blended excellently. I'm very excited to try 1872 Mandarin, I have a sample of that coming in soon. Performance is underwhelming unfortunately. It projects moderately for around 2 hours but sillage is on the light side. Longevity is meh, it's been 5 hours since I sprayed it on and it's almost completely gone. Iconic Masculine and Timeless have much better longevity, as those managed to last 8 hours on skin. I seem to go nose blind easily to this style of citrus-woody fragrances, so there's always the possibility that it might be affecting my experience with longevity. Also as I've said before, I'm wearing these Clive Christians off sample vials, so the amount of fragrance applied and the dispersion the atomizer achieves is really poor, which definitely plays into performance.

Fighting against Riyadh heat in peak summer with 2013 batch of 1872, I’m always impressed by how effortlessly elegant it is. It starts off fresh and crisp, then settles into a warm, sweet, musky base that lingers beautifully. It is pricey, yes but with over 200 ingredients, the quality speaks for itself. Layered it with CC X and the results were well complemented.
